    Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?

When I KOS someone on the airfield or in a city, I don't do it to get their gear. If I get their gear it's a bonus, but the reason I do it is threat removal. When guns become super scarce, and when I get one, I'm not going to want to lose it. If people are still going to bambi hunt and stories of people getting blasted nonstop continue, you better believe I'll KOS anyone with a gun. Why? So I don't have to worry about him shooting me in the back an hour later. Not every KOS' er is a CoD kid looking for the thrill of PvP. Sometimes we do it to adapt and survive because of our constant experience of how others act on the servers we play. So far I've only had two instances of ambushing someone who had a gun, sticking them up and after talking to them let them go unharmed with their loot and didn't have them circle back and try to kill me.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

This game isn't about heroes vs. bandits. The reason people play that way is because there is no other threat right now. Putting in this visual que PVP system would just perpetuate this behavior once zombies are working as intended in the numbers intended. Personally I believe that when zombies are working the way they're supposed to, shooting at random people for the hell of it will be way too risky because you'll get swarmed and lose all your stuff to a zombie zerg. Remember, this is not the finished product and it's not a strictly PVP oriented game. It's supposed to be a survival game that just so happens to include the ability to kill anyone.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

Your point of it NEEDING to be there for the sake of game play makes it sound objective when it's really subjective. The game is based around communication and interaction, not in-your-face visual ques. On private servers, whatever, do as you please I guess. But I think Rocket should stick by their vision and not deviate to cater to people who are just not cut out for what it has to offer.
  4. I have a Pristine Mosin with a Pristine long range scope. (Found it on a dead guy on the side of the road. Whaaaat?!) Anyway, thing shoots very nice. However, I found a compensator for my small pe- I mean my Mosin, and it's condition is worn. Will that actually make my accuracy worse than if I just left it off? Does the condition of the compensator mean the accuracy boost will just be lower with each condition downgrade, or will it actually effect a pristine weapon?

    Long Range Scope?

I have conflicting feelings about the Mosin with a long range scope. On one hand I LOVE having one because I can provide over watch. On the other end, I hate them because in the hands of a good sniped, they're brokenly over powered.

    Why I Am Friendly

You don't have to like my reasons, but that's one of them. I'm not losing all my stuff because the game decides to make it look like you ran through one wall and then shoot me from behind because I told you not to reach for your weapon. So sorry if it isn't up to par with your standards, but I've been killed way too many times by people who shoot first and ask questions later. What I try to not do is shoot the unarmed, but that rule is slowly eroding by how many people have tried crossing a field just to try and punch me out for my M4 when I made no threatening gestures. Thankfully no one has succeeded in Mike Tyson'ing me, but unarmed people currently move super fast and their animations can get really erratic if they're lagging.

    Why I Am Friendly

I think the argument is, is that even in places (and through time), when civilization breaks down and anarchy takes hold, violence and might-makes-right does take over. What doesn't happen, however, is a full out free for all death match where everyone murders everyone. I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't KoS. I think it's boring and can be very obnoxious outside of military bases. It's just that using the, "if this happened in real life" argument can go both ways. As humans, we are social creatures. We tend to group up, not just go lone wolf and murder everyone. The only reason I generally KoS in bases is because animations and lag make sticking people up incredibly risky. In real life, I could ambush you and make you keep your arms up while twenty feet away and watch for sudden movements. This game, sadly, has had instances where I try to stick a guy up and suddenly he sprints and starts rubber banding all over the place and suddenly shoots me while on my screen he doesn't have a gun out. My computer is pretty decent and my connection is the best money can buy; DayZ is still in alpha, the animations can glitch and people lagging / desync can cause weird movements. Let's also not forget about combat loggers who quit, relocate and then jump back into your server to ambush you. As it stands, trying to rob people is almost as risky to the bandit as it is to the one who wants to fight back against being robbed.
  8. I found similar threads but usually relating to the supposed hackers actions, but not them affecting other players. I was at the Balota airfields with some friends (the TBG servers, #1 I believe) when suddenly all of us in the military jail started experiencing massive lag. My one friends character then somehow ran through the wall and out into the airstrip and was shot. I was confused, thinking the server was messing up when suddenly a guy opens the door. At the point I was unable to select my gun (I don't know how it got put away, but I hit space bar and raise my fists) He fires, misses, and so I run under the steps trying to now manually drag the gun into my hands but no luck. He then casually strolls next to me and I decide to combat log, as this is some serious BS as everyone in the area, including the admin, is losing control of their character but this guy is having no problems. I hear his gun go off but I log and see my character with all his gear at the login screen, but I guess he got me because no matter where I log in I'm a new spawn. At any rate, what could have happened? I find it incredibly weird that myself, three TBG guys and the admin all start to have crazy issues ONLY as this one dude approach are location and kills us.
  9. I know it's just a video game, but I do wish people who hacked multilayer games for the sole purpose of messing with other players, especially in a game like this, would have their legs shattered with a pipe.
  10. It took me days to get kitted out like that, but yeah, I just shrug because it's an alpha and it's going to happen sooner or later and attachment to things in this game is a recipe for a stroke because of rage.Still, if it was some type of cheat, that just would really upset me. What made me really wonder if something was up was all of my friends were experiencing some laggy crazy movements from our characters, but all of us were able to see this guy moving smoothly. He wasn't rubber banding or moonwalking, so it just made it seem fishy. I know hackers can teleport people, as I've been in a firefight in a house with someone and I heard "sorry, I don't fight fair" and suddenly found myself in the middle of the ocean.... Either way, I'm not overly angry as I know this alpha is also easy to hack and they're working on tightening it up, but my curiosity was getting to me.

    Why I Am Friendly

I don't know why, but I get a thrill from hanging out at the airfields and shooting unwary looters. Why? Because it's a gamble. I can go play Cs:Go, or Red Orchestra 2 and shoot and get shot.... but there is a thrill in making someone lose their hard earned gear while the odds are they have friends in the area who will wreck me. And me getting wrecked is a strooong possibility because I've been killed by ghosting a-holes at least five times now (I pin you in a house with one entrance, then that mofo somehow magically comes up behind me). And yes, each time it was the exact same person I was fighting because I saw them and unless it happened to be a guy with the exact identical gear down to the weapon mod... amywayh... Outside of that, I try to be friendly to people, but this game makes it VERY hard, seeing as Bambi hunting is all most people do.
  12. I use Team speak with friends because I get bored after an hour of exploring. It's fun to chit chat while roaming the map. We do sometimes meet other squads and get into battles, but we still end up shooting each other because it's really hard to distinguish who is who in this game most of the time. That said, the people who get all prissy and defensive about "but my squad needs comms to wreck people in firefights!" are just try-hard FPS punks who only want to play this as ARMA 3 death match, but that's their preference, so whatever.
  13. I'll try to be more police than some other people, and I didn't read every post so hopefully no one worded this exactly as I did. But I did read that other people have said, "This game is not for everyone", and it needs to stay like that. I'm sorry, it's not to be elitist and yes some things need improving (It's in Alpha, let's not forget here), but a lot of us are afraid that there is going to be a large outcry from the CoD / Battlfield / Console community to help streamline a lot of features to make it more accessible. Things like more HUD pop ups, easier gun mechanics, more guns popping up everywhere and easier navigation. We pray and hope Rocket will ignore anything that will detract from the gritty, realistic-feeling of this game such as making it more arcade-y and more about getting into squad-based firefights instead of what it's supposed to be about; More of a simulator of survival that also happens to have zombies cluttering every spot that need to be avoided or quietly taken down. Things like smoother animations, less clunky movement, and smoother / faster transition when manipulating your inventory are things that will hopefully be worked on in time, as issues like changing from holding a can of beans to pulling out a pistol currently take like 10 seconds which is insane when someone is running at you with an axe (I'm no quick-draw McGraw gunslinger, but I can fire a primary weapon, sling it and unholster and fire a pistol in about 2 to 3 seconds and I'm not military). But going back to "It's an Alpha" statement, understand that Rocket is working on a LOT of things right now, and their priorities aren't really geared towards making what I listed better. They're working on zombies, AI, geometry collisions and adding items and cities into the map. Once they have everything IN the game that they want, they'll work on overhauling animations, movements and stuff like that because fixing bugs would be pointless if they're not even finished making the game. If Rocket worked only on the bugs right now, once they started changing the game, they would be back to square 1 with bug fixes. At any rate, this game is not easy. It's punishing, and it's not even finished. We're supposed to be play testing and giving feedback. It even warns you not to buy this if your only goal is just to play and have fun UNLESS you're also willing to accept you're playing with a broken and unfinished product. It seems like your friend missed that, and perhaps you didn't really drive that home when convincing him to buy the game.
  14. I know this issue has been brought up, but dear lord, is it annoying. Recently in the NW airfield and for the last hour before that I'm hearing zombie screams every 30 seconds. I get to NW airfield, do a quick scan and don't see any zeds. I don't know where the fuck this one zed appeared after i was sitting in a Bush carefully surveying the airfield for about 3 minutes. I had no idea he was actually there (in fact I can't tell how I aggroed him as I was 100% concealed in that bush) but he wails on me forcing me to run out and try to chop him... and then I'm sniped. I just needed to get it off my chest how agitating that was. It's an Alpha and I expect glitches, but I reserve the right to be pouty.

    no more alphas for me

To be fair, Minecraft's alpha and beta stages were when 4chan was at the height of its popularity while also still thinking it was a super secret Internet club, especially /v/. This led to an endless stream of entitled man-children to flood every forum nook and cranny with complaints that just kept piggy-backing off each other. With DayZ I just get the feeling we're dealing with a younger generation who; A. Doesn't understand jack about how games are developed, and B. Doesn't care about the vision of the devev team but wants the most streamlined design that is custom tailored to their wants and desires..

    Losing your player kill virginity.

My first and second kill were not memorable because they were kind of lame. We were in a big shooting in Kamyshovo with 5 other guys. My 4 friends were really disorganized and I saw a guy with a motorcycle helmet and an axe coming toward me. I yelled into the mic, "Who is coming toward me on the side of the industrial building?" One friend said it was him, but then the guy started chopping me. I had to run backwards and spray fire this guy who started rubber banding all over and then suddenly fell over. I then followed his friend into a house who also had an axe and gunned him down so he couldn't ambush us. Again, not memorable because I've done that in any shooter. My 3rd kill is the one I'll never forget. A guy was terrorizing this 11 year old I had met up with in Balota. 11 years old is pretty young, and made me feel really odd playing with him because saying, "I was playing and conversing with an 11 year old online" sounds like the beginning of a terrible Dateline special... anyway This kid tried to befriend everyone we ran into. They either ran immediately when they saw me with my M4, or they were like some hillstop sniper who shot the kid then combat logged when I closed in. Well, oddly enough I found a dead guy on the road with a Mosin and long range scope and ammo for days, so I swappers out my M4. I met up with the kid again outside of Elektro. I sat up on sniper hill and told the kid to make a break for the inner firehouse as I saw Zombies still around, making me believe it was safe to loot. Wrong. As soon as he got near the outer fence, M4 fire from the tower. I could see the barrel but not the player. I then told the kid to move to another side to give me a good shot. He then sprinted and our brave M4 Bambi hunter shifted sides. I made an 800 meter head shot, dropping the guy and giving this kid all pristine super kitted loot because of a semi-lucky headshot. It became memorable because his friend darted out of the firehouse and guessed wrong because he ran directly away from my position so I didn't have to lead the shot and tagged him in the back, putting him down.
  17. There is a level of exploiting that I do to keep pace with the level of broken we have to deal with. I gamma glitch because let's face it, if you don't you're 1 kilometer sniped in the face. I don't care if someone thinks it's disgraceful to do anymore because trying to play honorable on a night server means you spend the whole time dead. I don't care about server hoppers, as they're easy to kill with a stock Mosin or shotgun. Combat loggers can eat shit. They don't ruin my life, but they usually then ghost to kill you because getting killed in a video game is obviously too scary and too much of an ego hit to stand. Hackers? Well, we all hate them. Edit: fucking phone that insists on auto correcting "Mosin" to 90 other words.

From now on I trust no one.

I don't doubt it's possible. I don't even know what the actual percentage is of KOS players vs. Regular players. I'm just saying I've had bad luck, and everyone I've met so far has had bad luck.

From now on I trust no one.

I think the problem is that a lot of us have been unlucky and we keep running into nothing but KOS'ers. Those of us who want to make little bands of survivors are a minority and the only way we've managed to get into groups is by meeting up out of the game on forums, rather than dynamically in-game.

From now on I trust no one.

I feel the OP's frustration. The only friendly person I've ever met was a young kid who had way worse gear than me at the Balota AF. He never betrayed me, and it amazed me that an 11 year old was more polite and more mature than 99% of the playerbase. Still, the worst story I have was I was looting and sharing loot in the center of the map between the NW airfield and NE airfield. I had met up and teamed up with this guy for almost three hours. We run into a magnum and I said, "You can have it dude". He takes it, loads it and shoots me and steals my food. Now it's KOS unless they're my buddies.

    Please eliminate server restarts

To the new posters: server restarts happen for two ressons: loot doesn't respawn, and server hoppers pick things clean. If servers didn't reset every few hours, server hopping would become necessary, not just for people looking for "phat lewtz". Also, despite the map size, a full server can quickly decimate every resource that spawned pretty quickly. This would result in everyone dying of hunger within one day, no joke. It would also result in non server hoppers never seeing a gun. Rocket has stated over and over that loot respawning will happen, but server resets are a work around at the moment, so complaining that they need to fix it either means you're just venting, which is fine, or just uninformed. If it's the latter then i strongly suggest that you research the topic with a very quick Google search in the future as it will save you time.

    Gamma exploit

I don't think it's too dark. I think the flashlight needs go give off a much wider cone where the edge doesn't go from light to pitch blackness. Also, the light beams need to be fixed so they aren't going though walls, but that seems like just a bug fix that will be handled in time. Either way, I doubt fixing the issue with the night is the highest priority. With this being an alpha with a myriad of issues, I have faith in Rocket that they know their priorities.
  24. Demoth

    Gamma exploit

They need to fix it because the night mechanic is incredibly scary and really fun to play in. Once they fix the zombies to work right, then it could make for a great mechanic.... unless they fix gamma exploiting. There is nothing worse than currently being picked off with complete precision from 800 meters in a field by someone who sees you clear as day while you can barely make out your own hands.

    New weapon! SKS 59/66 Yugo

With all pristine magpul parts it's not too bad, true. I guess I need to take a step back and also taken into account that during combat accuracy generally suffers for all but the most battle hardened soldiers.
