Guns don't need balancing in this game. What needs fixing (I mean before the game launches, not NOW NOW NOW) is the net code and some smoothing of character animations. The rubberbanding and general twitchiness of characters makes the game very unfun when it looks like people can turn 90 degrees mid run on the turn of a dime, or having people rubber band sprinting at 40 MPHs.
-
That was the point of my post, though im assuming you were responding to the OP. The netcode is not very good and really isn't on the top of their list to fix right now. They're working on getting all of the content in the game and tweaking values for things for balance. Once they have all that in, then they'll optimize and fix stuff. The reason for this is because if they made the game 100% polished now, it'll just be all fucked up once they change and add stuff. First you build, then you put on the polish.

The netcode for this game is god awful at times. I mean, it's a work in progress so I can't be upset, but here's a story you can take or leave. Earlier today in Balota, I sniped a dude in the chest as he was coming towards me, making my shot a certainty. My range was right and my aim was true. Bang.... nothing. I see him then sprint into a building, not bleedind, nothing. I couldn't make a follow up shot because for some crazy reason my guy put his gun away without me telling him to. Well, I draw my pistol and follow him to the house, thinking I MUST have missed him. I get into the house... he's gone. I think, "F'ing combat logger". I go back out, take up my position and..... he's dead at the spot I shot him on the runway. Same guy, same gear. This game is really screwy.

Thanks for the compliment! I decided to take it upon myself to become the Bane of Balota after I ran through my TBG server today and kept running into places picked clean when I was the only one on there in the morning. After a server reset (I found a Mosin in a random house) I made my way to each Airfield. I checked the server periodically and noticed that 1 or 2 people would join, stay on for no more than 5 minutes and leave. Each base was picked clean. I then hear the familiar sound of an M4 loading in the room I just checked at the NEAF jail. I ran in and saw a guy just standing there fully geared. Put a round in his skull and treated myself to some awesome gear. I went upstairs and not a second later another sound of a Mosin loading. Damn you hoppers. I guess he heard me because we had a tense standoff with him downstairs and me upstairs in the jail. I go for broke and bust around the corner just spraying. Thankfully he was walking up the stairs backwards. Now comes the long Trek from the NEAF to Balota. Met some survivor with a Mosin and scope. Somehow we trusted each other enough to trade his Mosin for the MAGPUL M4 I took off the hopper and we went our separate ways without killing each other. I then made it to Balota, and the server reset. That's when I decided to hide in my special spot that allows for great coverage and where targets move towards and away so I don't have to lead shots. 9 server hopper kills later, and I feel pretty good. I think I allowed 5 or 6 other people come and go, and I was checking names to see if perhaps people were just server hopping from way far off base, but oddly enough, if someone ran into Balota to loot and then ran out, no one logged off for over 30 minutes. And like I said, most people were coming out of buildings I had a clear line of sight on so they were logging in from inside the building. Then I would have to run back there, put their loot into the building and close all the doors so it looked like no one had been there.

What difference do the condition of gun parts do? For instance, the difference between a pristine vs badly damaged MAGPUL M4 parts?
-
Thank you so much for the very useful information. This puts my mind at ease except for the future weapon degradation. I'm praying they implement a way to keep your weapons pristine, even if it's difficult and resource consuming. With how difficult it is to even find a gun without resorting to server hopping, let alone keep it, having it break down after only a few hundred rounds would really suck. Obviously a few hundred rounds will start to effect most guns until cleaned, I've never had any of my firearms, let alone my own M4, become problematic after a few hundred rounds downrange except for the occasional misfeed or stove pipe jam.
-
I tried looking up info for this topic before making my thread, I just get a lot of conflicting info. So a badly damaged MAGPUL buttstock will have worse accuracy than a pristine normal M4 stock? Most of the info I get says condition of parts only effects the scopes right now. This is incorrect?

Zombie attack=everything ruined in backpack?
Demoth replied to firstrock1503's topic in General Discussion
M4's might have reliability issues if not properly maintained, but I don't think being flop-slapped would suddenly cause it to become inoperable -
NVG shouldn't be added until gamma exploit is fixed or they will be pointless.

Most of the US population has only experienced Arabs through how the news portrays them, or if they were in the military and sent over seas. That'd be like being a guard at a high security prison for violent offenders and then making the sweeping statement that all minorities and white guys with tattoos were criminals. (And I await the typical response that this IS in fact the case).

The current implementation of the logout timer is trollish.
Demoth replied to airtonix (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Zombie AI won't be able to find you of you're hiding in a bush. All you'll have to do is hide in some type of foliage and zombies won't attack you. Again, 30 seconds isn't that long. If you can't be bothered to just look around and make sure 200 zombies aren't roaming at you, you're careless. -
Logging Out - Expermimental Branch 114782
Demoth replied to apollovulcan's topic in General Discussion
Because that's life, and the steps needed to take care of combat loggers. Fire fights are slow, plodding affairs Un this game. I routinely find myself "sitting" for 3 to 5 minutes at a time I fire fights trying to gauge what my opponents are doing, or slooooowly making my way to a better position. With your system I could get into the fight, sit back and wait 30 seconds. Cool, they decided to be patient, COMBAT LOG. Oh, they rushed me right away? Now I am forced to fight back when I meant to combat log. In the case of people intending to combat log, I'd prefer their wrong guess of being rushed was met with them being shot. And again, I have no idea what server you play on where you're constantly stalked, but I'm forced to routinely go AFK, sometimes for 10 minutes at a time, and not once has anyone randomly stumbled into the bush I'm hiding in. -

Jesus Christ, how where are you guys logging out where the chances of a random dude finding you in 30 seconds is even a remote possibility? I've hidden in bushes in the middle of Balota airfield numerous times on full servers when my wife needs me to do something, or I need to check email, do laundry etc., and that's sometimes for 10 minutes. As long as I'm hidden well (which is stupidly easy to do in this game) no one sees me unless they just so happens to run straight into the bush I'm sitting in. I could very easily be wrong, but it really sounds like you're someone who exits the game when the going gets tough, like people who log out when trying to loot barracks and spots an M4 wielding bandit searching there first. Combat hasn't started, but you go "Oh man, I don't want him to find me" so you switch servers. Again, I could be wrong but your suggested fixes are just way too easy to exploit.- 162 replies

The problem with hackers are 2 fold. 1. They are out there and they are assholes about it. The ESP hacks are the most obvious, coupled with .pbo wall hacking makes for a bad time. My team was scattered throughout Kamyshovo and a guy ran behind the industrial building with his scoped Mosin. He was the only person on the server besides me and 4 friends. We didn't shoot at him, but suddenly he shoots through 2 buildings and kills me. Okay. Mind you, my other friends were hidden behind trees, in a Bush and one prone behind the train station and this guy picked us all off with one shot each. 2. Desync caused non cheating players to appear they're up to something. I've had people look like they were teleporting all over the map while later I get accused of the same while trying to punch a bandit. Bottom line is that it's hard to tell who is legit and who is cheating.... sometimes. Outside of the cheater I mentioned above, I haven't run into any one I could certainly say, "He's cheating". P.S. - I did have one wild experience in Balota where one guy had a shotgun. There were 3 of us raiding the east jail, and any time this guy got close to one of us our characters holstered their weapons and couldn't pull them out again. One friend ran away and after a certain distance got his Mosin out, but as soon as the guy got within 50 meters, the Mosin got put away and my friend got shot. Very odd, but I don't know how a hack could do that, so it may have been another crazy bug.

He's just experiencing the classic case of, "it hasn't happened to me so clearly it has and cannot happen to anyone". Throw in some ego for good measure (he's saying you suck, implying he knows what he's doing because he's awesome) and you're basically left with, "Deal with it, nerd".

Light RP, Community Growth, Private Server Discussion
Demoth replied to Katabasis's topic in General Discussion
I love RP, but only text based and will never be a part of any RP where there is a moderator / admin who has the ability to kick, ban or otherwise have an absolute control over a person's access to their server / website / area where the RP happens. Why? It will always start drama. Always. Even in text based chat rooms, people get way too emotionally invested, take things personal at some point and become psychotic. You can split communities by convincing part of the community to leave to another chat room, or another message board or whatever. But in a game with an admin who plays? Hell no. People seemed to really enjoy RPing with me when I was really into it, but at some point people can't help but get all bent out of shape in real life and bring it over to the RP world and start shit. And when it becomes the admin who does this because he simply doesn't like someone's character? Believe you-me, it will happen. At some point someone is going to get salty because they want to do something that someone disagrees with and they'll be kicked, and half the community will be forced to pick sides and the kick bans will happen.... My life is relatively drama free. I have a high stress job that somehow doesn't stress me, yet when I come home to relax and people I start to think are reasonable are having damn near aneurysms over a recreational activity, it makes me wonder how they even deal with real life issues. -
I've been killed once by a .pbo hacker. That was obnoxious. I've run into only one other ESP hacker, but thankfully he was unarmed and we killed him. I've had some really questionable fights where very suspicious things happened, bit it's hard to prove it was not just the game being whacky, buggy and glitching out.

I've rarely seen any game fix Exploits and cheats simply because more people started doing it, sadly. What seems to happen is they fix it when they get around to it and then a large swath of people are banned, including the people who showed others how to do it. This is my experience just by reading forums where people scream about being banned for making youtube videos explaining how the cheat works, though they claimed to only make it to show the dev team what's going on.

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.
Demoth replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
The dev vision is not to have this broken into game-locking faction PvP where your actions force you to look a certain way to identify your play style. If you want faction pvp there are other ARMA mods for you -
People's hearts are in the right place, but there are ways to submit glitch / exploits to dev teams. Instead they post about the glitch, or worse, how to do it. All this does is put it out there, "yo, check this out!!!" And now 3,000 more people find out about it, and out of those there are going to be some who will abuse it. Again, heart in the right place but when you make open posts about these things you are making the problem a lot worse. Once people started posting about this glitch I've seen the rate of people abusing it explode.

Demoth replied to 1S1K-Airborne's topic in General Discussion
People have given very good reasons why we should not have skins and markers that give away who plays in what style, and good reasons why we should. As stated earlier, I'm very against any bandit or hero skins because honestly, it won't matter when someone obtains their hero skin only to turn around and troll the hell out of everyone by shooting them in the back. It also, IMO, takes out a lot of the tension of not knowing who to trust. All we can do is ley Rocket make the game they want in the way they want. We can give our thoughts and opinions but they should stick their vision. No matter what they do, people will complain and bitch. You can't please everyone and hopefully Rocket takes that to heart and just makes the game they want. -
The benefit is that you're helping Bohemia save money so they can dump more into development. You're also allowing the community another server to play on. What people seem to refuse to understand is that the servers are set up in a uniform fashion to allow consist results on whatever data they're gathering. This game is far from finished and people need to stop playing it like it's a polished product that is just here for pure entertainment; apparently everyone ignored the big warnings of "DON'T BUY THIS IF YOU JUST WANT A FUN GAME EXPERIENCE". At any rate, I don't play on servers where admins clearly want total control. They are almost always power tripping nerds who thrive on threats, intimidation and starting game-drama. Rarely do they ever want total control to reign in griefing, cheating or disruptive behavior.

Played on a 1st Person server last night...
Demoth replied to libertine's topic in General Discussion
I can't play on 1PP servers for one reason; Sometimes, and I don't know why, but my character gets stuck unable to run, just slow walk. The only way I've found that fixes it is if I go to 3rd person. Suddenly I'm able to run again. It's weird because if I hit the 3rd person key I'll stay in 1st person, so I have to hit it again and THEN it goes to 3rd person and it fixes my run issue. I haven't figured out why this happens, as I try tapping and double tapping every key on my keyboard to uun-stick my character from only being able to slooooowly walk, but so far going into 3rd person is the only way to fix it. And just to clarify, I can then switch back to 1st person and my character will still be able to walk / run / sprint. I don't have to remain a in 3rd person. -
Will Preventing Server-Hopping Increase Kos?
Demoth replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
"Grow some balls"? Wow, quite the emotional response over how I play a video game. Come talk to me again when you decide to talk like an adult. I even mentioned I do have tense interactions, but I guess you got your panties in such a twist you stopped reading halfway to then insult me. I don't like posting on game forums because so many people this stuff far too seriously and always resort to personal attacks and rage fits, it's crazy.
