Hard to tell when people are joking here, as people generally like to make really snide comments for no real reason. Either way, I wasn't trying to flip on you, just was assuming you read part of the post and just assumed I was running sideways while shooting from the hip while I was testing the SKS. But I don't really know how else to shoot it most accurately, as prone without having moved for a while and shooting would result in such bad groupings. My SKS, PU Scope, clip and all the bullets are pristine, but while firing I noticed that the bulets, in a 10 shot group, about 6 of them went pretty much dead center, while the 4 were six inches to a foot outside of the center. The first shot went up and to the right, the second was dead center, third dead center, then 4th bottom left and such. Either way, this worries me because in a firefight, everyone spreads pretty well with the M4, and the Mosin is like a laser.
-
I'm assuming you skimmed so fast you missed the part where I was prone, not out of breath, steadied my aim and fired. So.....
-
Yeah, I'm rocking the PU scope now. I'm a little concerned about people saying it's so accurate. I scoped a zed at 75 Meters. Had my crosshairs center mass, prone, hold breath, fire.... nothing. Took 4 shots before I him him. I tested it out on the size of the building, using the PU scope, and my shots were not grouped very well. Not super bad, but not great either. Does the PU scope actually make it worse???

Removing server hoppers has actually made me really sad, as this was how I geared up.... hear me out. I used to be forced to server hop because I mainly stick to TBG server 2, sometimes I go to 1. Unfortunately that stuff was always looted, and more often than not by server hoppers. I would then have to run to some random down and maybe get a shotgun or magnum. I would then get a few rounds and rush back to Balota. I would close all the doors to all the buildings and then wait. Sometimes it took 30 minutes, but eventually I would see someone come running out of the barracks or the jails, signaling they were a server hopper. Then the hunt was on. I would have to be careful, but with patience and a well placed headshot, I woudl now be fully geared off of one player. I would then find another spot and do the same, sometimes wracking up 15 kills in under an hour, and this generally meant all the food, water and ammo I would need for weeks from just a couple of dudes, assuming I didn't ruin all their stuff. Now? Well, without server hoppers, combat has slowed down. That's fine, I like to explore too, but zombies still aren't really a threat, so other than exploring, this has kinda left me with fewer things to do. I guess maybe I'll hang around the coast and wait to snipe up some new-spawn killers.

Explain to me this. How is it better to add small things to the game before fixing major problems?
Demoth replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
Think of it like this; They haven't even put everything they want into the game. The problem with fixing the game to be 100% playable now (it's not even a game, remember, it's early access Alpha we're play testing) is that once you start adding in things, the game potentially breaks again. So they would have to spend months on fixing stuff, add in something a week later and it would all break again. It's sort of like trying to put a roof on a house before you even put down the foundation. Remember, game stability, optimization and fixing of glitches and bugs is a finishing touch step. You first have to get everything you want in the game and THEN make it work harmonously. If you try to do it backwards, you're going to constantly have to add, fix, add, fix, and then this game will be released in 7 years. -

Errr, I own an Bushmaster M4A3, and AK-47, a smattering of pistols, several combat shotguns, a Sig Sauer SSG 3000 sniper rifle, a Mosin Nagant, a Mauser Kar 98K and a two M1 Garands. So I'm pretty second amendment. And the M4 was designed for warfare. It was designed to put accurate fire and be more manueverable inside buildings, as the M16 can be too bulky. So yeah, urban combat, which involves shooting people. Unless you're hunting urban turkey or CQC deer, I really don't know how you would say the M4 was made for other purposes. I mean, you -can- use it to hunt, I suppose, but I don't know any hunter worth his salt who would take any AR-15 style weapon on a hunting trip unless you're hunting varmits, and then your military weapon is a bit overkill. -

You're fighting a losing battle because this is a video game community. Everyone is a billy badass lone wolf who plays by their own rules who could survive indefinitely in the harshest, most unforgiving environment ever. I know a couple of survivalist types who would do just fine living off of whatever they found in the wilderness, could hunt and grow their food and make good shelter in weather ranging from Alaskan winter to desert, but I highly doubt they would start blasting everyone in an apocalyptic setting. People also keep using "Fall of society" as an excuse that we would all go on psycho rampages like we do here in DayZ. People even pointed to Katrina, which I thought was funny, because a lot of looting happened, but people did not run around with guns killing everyone. Did people, including police, shoot people? Yeah, it happened, but not on the level of what happens here in DayZ. In short, anyone who tries to justify their KOS playstyle with, "If this happened in real life...." is an idiot. Yeah, you might have banditry, murders over resources and whatnot, but not the level of plugging people wearing t-shirts and jeans from hilltops with precious ammo that will also wear down your weapon over time. In short, people KOS because it's thrilling, it's fun, and they're used to doing that in a video game. End of story. -
Oh man, your sample size is yourself? With anecdotal evidence. I'm convinced! Seriously though, because of DayZ my Steam friends list doubled (now it's 30), and they are all from in-game encounters. Not all of us are bashing Rust, but some of us have actually played it and run into the same KOS experience. Also, they're not trying to be the same game, but people will always fanboy it up and argue which game is better as though they have massive stock in the company. If you enjoy Rust more in its current state, go play Rust, have fun and be happy. I just wish people could do that without trudging back here and going, "have fun with your stupid shit game because you all have bad taste, LOLOLOL"

I'm sorry Macdeth, but you are going to build up a pretty bad rep in this community if you keep acting this way (I'm sure you don't care, but then anything you post will be seen as just trolling). Don't take this as disrespect, but the reason you're receiving so much push back is because you're making a ton of assumptions, generalizations and then being very abrasive and dismissive any time someone brings up a counter point. You then get very hostile when someone uses your same lines of logic and argument structure. All in all you have very strongly hard lined your position which is really a bad idea on a forum because it leaves no room for discussion. Taking stances where you want no feedback is better suited for blogs and diaries.

Obvuously I meant if theyre close enough to close the distance quickly. I don't shoot bambis.

well, I don't let them get too close, anD if their fists go up they get blasted.Knock on wood, I havent been beat down yet

I've managed to kill about 9 people today in Balota, and 2 in the NW Airfield (TBG servers) I know, KOS is mean and it's turning this into DayZ Deathmatch with a sprinkle of zombies, but so far I'm pretty sure everyone I've killed was a server hopper. I generally have a good view of all the ways into Balota, so if I see someone coming from the North, South, East or West, I let them go... or at least, I don't shoot at them. I'm not a perfect shot. But yeah, I keep seeing people running out of trees, inside buildings and whatnot, and that either means they're server hopping or they logged out in those bases, which is a silly thing to do. Either way... stay outta my Balota! That there loot belongs to the good people who scavange and hunt, not you dang server hoppers!

Just 2¢ from someone who has used these weapons in his day job
Demoth replied to Robert Allison's topic in Suggestions
With guns, it's really all down to experiences really. I have a Romanian AK 47 that I must have put 3,000 rounds through without having a single jam, and cleaning that thing is a breeze. I have a Bushmaster M4A3 that I've put about 2,000 rounds through, and I've only had 1 stovepipe jam and maybe 2 misfeeds, though I think it had to do with after market mags. Still, my Marine buddy did two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan and he and his Marine buddies haaaated their M16's. He said later on after left his friends who stayed got M4s that performed better, but he said his M16 was always jamming no matter how well he serviced it, and nearly cost him his life in a fight. Again, it seems to be all in who you ask, but for the record, anyone I take to the range who has never fired a gun before does really well with my M4, not these shots that veer 20 miles to the left at 20 meters. -
so i had a blast so far but this is killing my fun
Demoth replied to brumey's topic in General Discussion
If I'm camping Balota and I see you run out of a tree I didnt see you run into, you're getting shot. Logging out for the night outside of a military base so you can hopefully loot it again in the morning is still s crime in the eyes of the Bane of Balota. -

You're forgetting something; people who become incredibly emotionally invested. See, this game (like all others) has different effects on people. Its not life or death, but the real problems for some people arise when they take it extremely serious while others just go buck wild tossing care to the wind. This is currently the only game where my heart starts to pound as soon as I see another armed player. I reaaaaly don't want my character to die (if he's geared), but if he dies I'll sigh and start over. Same thing happened when I had a level 30-something Necromancer in Diablo II, hardcore, who died and was forever lost. But you're going to run into people who get so immersed in games it gets problematic. Maybe not "my WOW account got hacked so I'll commit suicide", but where they even treat their bambi self with the utmost sense of self preservation. That's why you see people who just can't comprehend why someone who is decently geared would risk it all by bum rushing them with a shotgun while they had a fully kitted M4 when instead they could have gone their separate ways and both been guaranteed to keep their hard earned gear. This is because the guy with the M4 is going crazy saying "You wouldn't do that in real life, what the fuck?!" while the shotgunner is just going full YOLO because he just doesn't care and would do this even if their loot was reversed because this is "just a game" and he wants to get into a firefight. I'm somewhat in the middle; I have a very strong self preservation mindset most of the time and will avoid people and just like to explore while getting supplies to keep the adventure going. Then I use that survival desire to get my heart pumping by going to places I KNOW people are going to be and they'll be armed, essentially gambling with my life. Some people just never get to that stage, however, they get incredibly attached, then die, then you see them come on here and throw a bitch fit. -

Screw you dude. First thing I'd do is grab my Sig Sauer SSG 3000 with my case of match grade ammo and my Springfield TRP and camp outside of the highways of Dayton. I'd have a massive errection as I started popping shots off at everyone in sight. I know this because it's what I do when the power goes out, it rains or I can't sleep. -
The one thing I'm very angry about is that they don't just auto-ban people who make these threads. They clutter the forums and add nothing. I try not to sound like a fan boy because there are a lot of things I do not enjoy about this game, and Bohemia always makes products that my computer can never run well even when it crushes everything else on the market (When BF3 came out I could run it at max at 60 FPS, but ARMA 2 was still giving my system grief). I know people with weaker systems than mine were running it just fine, but I get frustrated when I have to start performing what amounts to 100 hours of voodoo rituals just to get one game running smoothly. Anyway, back on topic: If you couldn't be bothered to read the GIANT WARNING NOT TO BUY THIS, or you are being a negative downer who acknowledges this is an alpha while also dismissing that fact in the same sentence, you need to be banned. You're simply making yourself look stupid. "Oh man, I told them to build me a house. They put in the foundation so I moved in and its cold! Where are the wall?! Why does everything get wet when it rains?! This house is a shitty house and will always be a shitty house!"

I looooove it when people threaten to leave this game and go plau Rust. Rust has a surprising amount of hacking going on right now, and you WILL be beat to death with a rock by any and everyone you meet. Either way, have fun in whichever game you choose to stick with.

Possibly, but even good blades need regular maintenance to retain their edges, especially if you're cutting through bone. Now I'm not saying "you", guy I quoted, but I've been to Japan, I've seen the swords, I've read the history and done some research a while ago. The issue with katanas were they were good weapons, but a lot of their properties were wildly exaggerated, along with some of their most famous users. Again, not saying that some aren't incredibly well made and a skilled user couldn't pop my head off, but we also aren't living in an anime where you can split low flying jets in half. There was an interesting video of them shooting a master-made katana with an M2 heavy machine gun and it cut two .50 cal bullets in half before breaking on the 3rd round... really impressive and it gave a lot of Japan-o-philes all this Nippon pride until that same katana wad also obliterated by a Scottish Claymore, blade to blade. -
If you see a tree with a Mosin barrel in Balota on the TBG server, dont shoot it!!
-
Basically this. When you start serpentining in this game you become almost impossible to hit. When I say animations are choppy and twitchy, I mean more for the person viewing you, because the game always feels like it's trying to play catch up with where you are (desync).
-
The Mosin has caused me much anger when I can't hit people cause they are desyncing, or I'm desyncing, or because the animations can get very choppy / twitchy. Currenly, the M4 is the way to go because you just have to either close distance and spray from the hip, or go prone and single fire tap at them from a distance (though then can still put up their fists and then run 30 MPHs)
-
What's funny is every bambi i've run into over the last few weeks has yelled "friendly friendly!!!" and surrendered. I've then put them at ease, give them a little food and then point them in the right direction if they're looking for gear. I get real curious how many of these guys KOS'd while I was running down a street with my rifle slung over my back, looking for supplies in a small town. Funny enough, a guy caught me dead to rights in Chorno while I was fully kitted with an M4 with all pristine MAGPUL parts and ACOG. He had a 357 and said "Hands up". My rifle was slung, but all he wanted was for me to leave so he could loot the fire house in peace. I complied and didn't double back because the dude was cool enough not to pop my head and take all my awesome stuff.

You realize that you didn't buy "the game", right? You bought this to help what the game will become; to bug test, submit feedback and get a discount for when it releases in probably a little over a year. It even warns you "THIS SHIT IS BROKEN AND WILL BE MISSING A LOT OF FEATURES, DO NOT BUY IF YOU WANT TO ONLY HAVE FUN PLAYING A GAME". You apparently either missed that warning, OR you're the type of person that reads "WARNING: CONTENTS VERY HOT" and then burns the shit out of your mouth and then complains that it was hot. I'm trying not to be rude, but I really don't get how people can jump into an Alpha test that warns you not to buy it and then gets all uppity when it's exactly what they were promised if they did even a smidgen of research.

Follow up post: I will say that in a game where survival is hard and death means losing it all, any type of long range marksman rifle is going to cause a lot of grief. I use it a lot, but I'll be the first to say that the Mosin is a real pain in the ass. With good hiding, supplies and patience, I can wreck someone's adventure and they'll never have any chance of retaliating. Even if they have a sniper buddy with them, if I'm in my spot then that means they had to come to me so they have to move and I'll always know where they are. I know the M4 can have some pretty decent range and accuracy with the right parts, but that requires at least 3 different parts that are all very rare to find in pristine condition. Considering this game is 99% being outside, snipers can make things incredibly frustrating, and not in the good way.
