Rain -> FPS drop (it is not the rain, but still FPS drop )
Demoth replied to zv0n3's topic in General Discussion
I wish people like you didn't post in threads like this. "I haven't experienced it so it must not be a problem. Must be your fault!" What people fail to understand is that different configurations of rigs require different tweaks. I have a pretty solid machine, but one of the guys I play with runs two Titans in SLI snd super clocked top end i7, mixed with other crazy specs. He has been destroying this game, always running it at nearly 70+ FPS.... until this patch. He too has been experiencing massive FPS drops with the rest of us. Yet someone with a system between his and mine was having pronlems UNTIL this patch. So no, the issue isn't because everyone else is an idiot trying to move every slider to max. -
Wow, that was an incredibly hostile response for no reason. I wasn't blasting you then, just putting across my 2 cents and when someone agrees with me you turn and become pissy? Alright, you're right, I shouldn't have responded to you because trying to have discussions with 12 year olds generally goes no where. Though now that others are responding, I don't mind discussing it with them. For the record, I didn't say you were killing people at 1200 all day or claiming you were a super sniper, so not sure what your problem was with my response.

What's funny is the lag / FPS dips seem to happen to everyone on the server at the same time. Not always syncronized, but for the most part. My friend has a Titan in his rig, as well as the best i7, tons of RAM and everything else you could basically throw your money away on, and when I start to drop to 10 FPS, he is also dropping to near unplayable levels. Obviously I'm not going to throw a fit as this is an alpha and I expect this, but I sure hope they trouble shoot it ASAP, because whatever they did is causing a LOT of people to be unable to play.

The vantage point I have for Balota means that I can see anyone who comes in and out. Everyone I shot came running out of the jails without ever having gone in, as after I killed them I ran there and closed the door. After victim 15, I approached the door and I ran into a guy who just logged in. We shot each other and he died and a second later I went unconcious.

That'd be fine with me. Hitting people reliably past 800 meters is not easy, and even trained snipers are hard pressed to hit moving targets. Again, Mosins are getting harder to come by and the LRS is becoming harder to find than flawless diamonds. So if someone who can shoot well gets one they basically get to have the most fun ever while everyone has to be at their mercy. If you make sniping in this game as hard as it is in reality, and people are still terrorizing cities, then the people getting shot aren't very good at moving, and/or that sniper is amazing and has earned it.

I've got a Mosin, and a Mauser Kar 98k. They have recoil, but once you build good upper body strength and shoot a lot, the recoil is nowhere near as bad. Still, the way the Mosin was previously was just too much. I wracked up a 15 killing rampage on server hoppers in Balota (pre-server timer patch). I was so far away they had no hopes of ever spotting me or knowing where I was firing from. So if I missed they either had to guess where I was or combat log. The issue was, most guessed wrong so they got behind cover and stopped, and once they weren't moving, I got the kill.

The new logout system is bad. Very, very bad.

PS. The bug you talk about is annoying. It's gotten me killed. They are fixing it. -

The wow logout timer still works in favor of combat loggers. Run to cover, position to see around cover and hit exit. If they take their time to move to your position, congratulations, you combat logged. If they throw caution to the wind and charge you, you can now react and kill them. The current system is better because now combat loggers have to take a serious gamble. -
Once they add in a way to spot snipers, such as binoculars, then I'd be fine with them making snipers however crazy they can be in real life. Thing is, they need to add two things. 1. Wind. They need to make it so you have to compensate for bullet drift. That'll really sort the COD shooters from the real snipers. But they also need... 2. Forced terrain. Currently you can appear to be totally concealed in grass or near a bush from 50 meters away. But from 200 meters you just look like a big idiot laying in the middle of a parking lot if you aren't using the right bush / tree.

Like someone else said, get a spotter. That's how you do it.

They need to have more areas that are hot zones that are high risk, high reward. I do agree, however, that any loot should spawn anywhere, even if it's a tiny tiny chance. They do need to make loot possible to spawn anywhere at some point. Currently there are houses that are pointless to search.

I don't care why you are in there with your gun drawn. The issue is that if I approach you and your weapon is drawn, you have just as good a chance of raising it and killing me as I do of raising mine and kill you. Sooo, I don't know what your point is, because I'm not going to foolishly approach someone who I know nothing about. This game is all about making things go on your terms. -

People also keep forgetting about the adreniline rush you get from getting into a firefight. It's a winner talk all scenario you don't get in other shooters. You can't play Battlefield, get shot and then have to spend hours slogging through the server trying to re-gear. This means that when you engage a person / people, you run the risk of getting yourself killed if you make a mistake. My heart is always pounding in gun fights, whether I start them or not. The only time I find KOS'ing distasteful is killing bambis or if I'm in a group and that person is alone and unarmed. Then we might dick with you, but nothing bad. Then again, I tend to hang around Balota. Everyone there is armed to the teeth when they show up, so no, I'm not going to risk trying to rob you, only for you to suddenly desync through a wall or run so fast you look like you're teleporting because this game has a tough time of keeping up with people who are sprinting. So no, the way I'm going to make sure you aren't looting the area I want to loot is to shoot you. All your stuff ruined? That's fine with me, because you didn't get the stuff in the bases I might want. -
I love it when people suggest that "When you're in combat" stuff about timers. Like Bean King said, what is defined as combat? How does a game know a player's intention? How would it combat manually shutting down the program with Ctrl+Alt+Del? If you lose connection, does it assume you combat logged and leave your character on the server until you reconnect, thus assuring anyone who innocently loses connection now is guaranteed to die? The current system is great. I've not had one person successfully combat log on me, where as many have done so before. And don't worry, when they implement a "combat timer", what you're inevitably going to see is that it will mess up, be bugged and will never take away your "in combat" status and you'll be unable to log out. Then this forum will be FLOODED with the angriest people in the world. P.S. Like Bean King also said, combat for him starts when another player is spotted. A lot of the people who combat logged on me logged the second we made eye contact. If you want to make Combat Status that you can't leave when someone is watching you, this means that you can indefinitely keep someone forced to stay in the game by simply stalking them from an unseen position, which is very easy to do. Stalked a group of guys from Kamyshovo all the way to Balota then ambushed them all while they were looting the jail.... 2 battle logged. So if I am stalking you, that now means you're forced to stay logged in until you can find me or I shoot you? Or worse, now you have to go running for 10 minutes away from your friends until they're 2 kilometers away so even a Mosin scope can't see them and pray you don't run into anyone else? Seems kinda.... way too much.

I still think that banditry, proper robbing that is, won't be completely viable until they fix the crazy animation and speed. I've said this multiple times over threads, and I understand it will probably be smoothed out at a later date, but if you aren't holding a weapon and you start to run and zig zag, you're almost impossible to hit. If you or the person you're robbing is having even a smidge of latency difference, or god forbid desync, then you can try spraying with a 60 round M4 and you probably won't hit them as they rapidly twitch around, make 90 degree turns instantly, and teleport in and out of walls. I think I've been told to "freez" about 4 times in this game so far. 3 of those times the person was actually trying to rob or mess with me, so I just put fists up and start springing and strafing and turning my mouse and suddenly I become an impossible to hit Speedy Gonzalez who can one punch knock someone out. In those three robbery attempts, I managed to escape two of them and knock out the other one and steal all of his stuff. So if they manage to ever fix that somewhere down the road, you might also see proper banditry really go up because then serpentining will then only be a good tactic for snipers. -
I believe this was done for gameplay balancing, as the Mosin is still very accurate. You can see where your shot landed by just knowing where you were aiming and then looking for the bullet hole. The issue, however, is that if you're making kills out to 600, 800 and 1200 meters, there is currently no way for anyone to respond to this. We don't have any other optics, such as binoculars, to spot out snipers. In a game where death means you reset your character, it's very obnoxious to have someone completely invisible erasing you. Now don't get me wrong, I love sniping. I haven't shot anyone at 1200 meters yet, but I believe my longest kill was 950, accourding to the DayZ DB map. He was in a group of 4, and none of them had any recourse to respond to me because long range scopes are incredibly hard to find and they're the only way anyone has a chance of fighting back. I know someone will come in here and tell me that life isn't fair, this is realistic in the hands of a good sniper, yada yada yada. Thing is, at the end of the day, it's still a game. With what this game is going for, I understand that things won't always be fair and using good tactics will always ensure victory, but when you grab a long range Mosin with a scope, and you know how to be patient, there is absolutely nothing anyone can do to stop you unless they're using ESP hacks.

Because the dev team knows what they're doing, and most of the forum goers crying for an easier time are whiny brats who are too used to being coddled and having their hand held. Here's the problem, right now, with the supposed "seeing a countdown before you're allowed to exit". It doesn't combat the combat loggers in any way. If you are in a firefight, you can easily run into a corner, behind a tree, over a hill or whatever. Now you hit "exit" and wait while keeping yourself positioned to see if anyone is coming to get you in that 30 seconds. Are they rushing you because they are afraid you're logging? No prob, just pop out of cover and open fire. Doing that action cancelled the countdown but you mowed down your attackers. Were your attackers moving and flanking cautiously, which takes more than 30 seconds? Congratulations, you got to combat log because attackers didn't throw caution to the wind. And maybe this current system will be tweaked. Thr forums are meant for feedback; most of you guys just do it in such an unconstrutive, whiny, I-WANT-IT-NOW, manner that you do nothing but invite lots of flaming.

Congrats to people who hated server hoppers, but was it worth it?

Here's what I've experienced. The game is currenly having issues with saving your character at the moment you log out. I got punched by a zombie, ran away, tried to bandage and another zombie ran through a wall and hit me, knocking me unconscious (the zed made no noises either, just ran through a wall and gave me the ol' left right) I had all this super crazy gear I'd worked very hard to get, so i was pretty upset. I think log out of the server to go to the gym as my character was dead and now I didn't have an excuse to procrastinate. When I finally log back on it's about 5 hours later. I get on a random server and my character is alive, still fully geared and back at the spot where the initial zombie had hit me. My guess is also that when people die, it becomes a toss up if their body stays or leaves when they exit the server (Respawn button still doesn't always work). So even though they died, when they respawn, the game removes them (dead body). Again, it can't be intentional, because a friend of mine died and he respawned on a different server but his body stayed on the ground for around 45 minutes. He was surrounded by 6 other guys we killed in a jailhouse firefight (yes, 6 guys and only my friend and I were teamed, meaning it was just everyone killing everyone in a CQC frenzy). 2 of them despawned in about 30 or 60 seconds, 2 guys despawned in 10 minutes, my friend didn't despawn for 45 minutes and the last guy was still there 2 hours later before I finally left the area. -

I hang around the military bases and basically KOS anyone who spawns in those places. If you are coming from outside the base, I'll probably let you pass unless you have guns drawn. What I like doing is rushing undergeared people who walk in looking for loot and telling them, "Go on, git!" I then type my name and say "I'm Demoth, as my text reads, and I guard this compound". Why? Because 9 times out of 10 they leave and go somewhere to get guns and come back to try and murder me so they can loot the place, or try to circle around and stealth loot... or bettrr get, have their friends join the server in an attempt to kill me. I dread dying, so my heart is always in my ears when I chase someone off the base and then see them plus 3 friends. I then have to throughly check for hilltop snipers so I don't jump the gun, kill one guy and give away my position. I think my record so far is killing 19 people who were either server hopping or had come back fully geared after I chased them away. I made a lot of people very salty in Balota that day, but eventually three M4 weilding bandits rushed my position and the last Mosin shot I got off hit a tree just inches from my killers head :( -
This logout lag between when you do stuff and log out is really annoying. I mean, they'll fix it eventually but I just feel like being grumpy because I lost a long range scope, PRISTINE!!! Again, not the end of the world, but sometimes you don't have that minute to sit before logging out, especially when your wife wants you to do something NOW

3 minutes is a lot for him. That's like, 3 orgasms.

I see a few SKS discussions floating about, but none are really giving any good information, or at least people are leaving one setence answers that then conflict with other answers a few posts below it. Can we have a discussion about the SKS in terms of how it performs? I managed to find one and would like to continue using it, but I also don't want to handicap myself in a firefight with all these M4 and LR Mosin snipers. First off, what's the deal with the damage? I was reading that it's a 1 shot kill, but my friend swears he had to put 6 rounds center mass before an enemy went down. Was it lag? (Sometimes I have to shoot someone in the head 3 times with the Mosin, but they actually died on the first shot but he was lagging and it took a moment for the server to register what happened) Is it possibly like the shotgun loader glitch where if you use a stripper clip you do less damage?
-
I once saw an M4 laying in the middle of the road in Elektro..... I sat there behind a building, peeking.... waiting.... I went for it.... "YOU ARE DEAD" I was hoping that sniper's aim wasn't true, but alas, it was.

Being kidnapped and used as a medical experiment would be incredibly boring for the person being kidnapped. You'd basically be stuck where ever you were taken and then be subjected to repeated transfusions and withdraws? No, I doubt anyone would opt for that and would simply start punching / sprinting for the hills. After everything is said and done, this is still a game. It doesn't have to cater to the COD kiddies and such, but it still has to be fun. In real life when you are knocked unconcious you might go into a coma. If you had to sit in the "You are unconcious" state until either killed or brought back (and logging out kills you) how fun would it be if you had to wait for 3 months to remain in a coma because some asshole player kept force feeding you? It'd be hella realistic, but not fun in the least.

I mainly hang out at the airfields and blast anyone and everyone I see. If you're at the airfield, it's because you're trying to gear up with the best weapons and gear. Since zombies aren't even remotely a threat once you find a fireaxe, I'm assuming you're not trying to get an M4 with 7 double mags for anything other than killing other players. Also, the thrill of gambling with my life in those settings is intense since I'm always alone, and yet everyone travels with a buddy or four, so my first kill is usually a guarantee and then it becomes a giant cat and mouse game with his buds.
