And "fun gameplay" is completely subjective. Some of us find the grueling, harsh, yet fairly authentic protrayal of things as a welcome departure from the flood of casual bullshit saturating the market.
-
People keep using words like, "fun gameplay" and "fair" around. I truly don't think people understand what this game is striving for. This game is tryig to strive for realism as much as it can; for authenticity. It's not realistic by ANY stretch to find every gun unloaded with bullets and mags always flung to the wind. It's a game of chance. If I died from a surprise attack if zeds while unprepared from day 1 of the outbreak, most people going through my community for food and supplies would find very little in terms of weaponry because gun laws are so strict.... but they would hit mega jackpot when they got to my house. Pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, lots of spare mags, and boxes full of ammo. As of now, gearing up is boring because the loot tables haven't been completely randomized. Everyone knows where to b-line to get what they need. But making it so loot is SO random that every gun had all of its necessary parts scattered like some crazy D&D quest is not only unrealistic, it's obnoxious. It ruins the thrill of hitting a jack pot, but also creates an unnecessary time sink. Should every gun be found with all of its mags and ammo and accessories? Hell no. Should finding stockpiles be common? GOD no. But eliminating it all together is just bad design.

There is a huge difference between being a fanboy, and seeing whine threads popping up like weeds from spoiled brats who have no clue what they're talking about. I'm going to put a game on Steam called, "Nothing". It's going to have a giant disclaimer saying that if you donate 30 bucks to my game, I will send you a thank you email and never work on the game. Considering how stupid and hasty some people are, I'm guessing 5% of the people who got this Alpha will give me 30 bucks. That'll give me a few hundred thousand bucks. I'll even make a forums where people can bitch that I'm doing exactly what I warned them I'd do (I'll never visit the forums).
-
What's worse is people think that any defense to the development is 100% blind famboyism. I am fully aware that all of our efforts to help with bug reports and feedback may be ignored. But I took a risk with this. I have pointed out flaws, written tickets, and made complaints. But trying to rabble rouse on the forums is an annoyance for most. I've never had reason to really lose faith in BI or Rocket. But if I did, I would just take note and no longer support their products. It's like how I will not touch most things made by EA. Their business practices disgust me, and the quality of their products, especially AAA games, is embarrassing. The only reason I even play BF4 is because I recently found it used for 10 bucks, and I have a keyboard and mouse setup for my PS4... and honestly, 10 bucks feels right for that game.

No, what I did was make a joke to highlight that people ignore clear posted warnings, then whine when the warnings turn out to be true. And it was a joke... but it must have hit a nerve. Is your hand currently wrapped in bandages at the Sear customer service booth?

Well, that's literally been every experience I've had with every game I've helped Alpha and Beta test.

I've stopped playing DayZ for several months, mainly because after I had my fun, the bugs and de-sync were really causing more frustration that fun. I still get on, see what's new, and fill out bug report tickets. The thing is, this game warned me EXPLICITLY that it was an Alpha, was going to have tons of issues, and there was a LOT of posting that the game would not even enter beta stage until early 2015. Anyone who knows anything about game development knows that they do not fix bugs in games during the alpha unless it's completely stopping everyone from playing, such as start up crashing, or things along those lines. The point of the Alpha is to pump in as much content as possible, and then the beta is to add in some more, and THEN start fixing and optimizing. The fact no one understands this baffles me. So much more has been added since the alpha first dropped, and people either ignore it, or continue to whine it's not enough. I do not like to insult, but anyone crying about it is simply a whiny brat, or has no idea how these things work. Does this mean the game will launch on time and be perfect? Probably not. RElease dates get pushed back ALL THE TIME. Is it possible that this game could come out a piece of crap? Sure, that happens too, and it's a risk we all took when we signed onto this little project. But the amount of moaning and crying on these forums is not only non-constructive, it's just tiresome.

This is a scenario I expect to see people on these boards run into in real. "So I went to the store, and they were selling a hotplate. The display model said, 'if you touch me, I will burn you'. Well, this is American and I do what I want. I touched it and the PIECE OF SHIT BURNED ME! I then complained to management for hours".

My character has been alive since May 2nd. That was mainly because I really didn't do that much, or play that much DayZ between May 2nd and today. I've maybe logged 10 hours from then till today, and in those 10 hours that character has survived with his M4, Suppressor, all MP parts, and 6 double mags, as well as fully black tactical geared out (with black baseball cap too!) I had survived 17.... yes, 17 gun fights, some quite large, in those 10 hours of gameplay. I have claimed 23 souls, only 2 of whom were unarmed. And today, I realized I was really bored of the game. Like, stupid bored. So I went to Barenzino (sp?, sorry) to look for trouble, and because I hear a character wipe is coming. So I went in, loaded up my gun, and went in. I met a new spawn with a raincoat and a fire extinguisher and gave him some food. He was REALLY impressed with the M4 and wanted one badly. I was actually considering just giving it to him when I got shot in the leg. Sonofa--- Two guys with 1911's, one firing and the other trying to flank. I said fuck it. I just charged. Now, the only thing that kind of upset me was I turned the corner already firing down the sights at the guy. I must have hit him 15 times and it SOUNDED like he maybe got 3 shots off.... and I died. Apparently he died too, but still. I'm glad my character is dead. It was a rush, and I at least took someone to the grave with me, facing each other. He was yelling into the mic that he was dead and that his friend needed to flank me, so I guess he didn't realize he had killed me too. Still, this game is about exploration and meeting people. If the only people you meet result in you getting killed, that sucks, but it's part of the thrill. And I love it. I can't wait to start lootin' again.
-
That's really the only reason I want to know why I have died, at this point. I've been in places where I just drop dead for no apparent reason. I want to know what caused my death. I don't want it to display who killed me, or with what weapon, or a kill cam. Just something simple like. "You fell to your death", or "you bled out", or "died of gunshot wound"
-
Easy.... if you're just walking in an open field and you suddenly get the black screen and the cause of death is because you fell to your death, or because a zombie ate you, you'll know it was desync or a bug

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Demoth replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
That's debatable that us legit M4 carriers are the minority. Just because ran into a few doesn't mean much in the scale of a million players. I still have my M4 from March because I haven't really been playing much, and for some reason I can't run into hostile people on 40 man servers; everyone's been super chill. -
The reason so many of us are against messages saying who killed you is it is another immersion killer. The game has ebough meta gaming problems already, and would lead to further problems of people playing this like a sandbox CoD.I would like it if the game allowed other players to examine a dead body to determine the cause of death. Perhaps being able to tell what caliber bullet if the person was shot. This could lead to detective work and would be handy when more guns and calibers were released. Someone leaving a trail of bambis dead in Elektro with 7.62 wounds? Then you see someone with a Mosin drinking at a well with a Mosin on his back between Elektro and Cherno? Pretty suspicious.....

What's going on with your server? People are getting kicked out ridiculously. I don't mean the admin kicks, but I go to any other server, no matter how full, and it's always good. I join this one, and it's smooth as silk, but as soon as gun fights break out, the game crashes. And it crashes for large swaths of people. IF I don't get kicked, I see 15 people suddenly get the same error and they're all kicked. What's going on?
-
It was a lot deeper and far more severe than simply mean people saying mean things online. If you really look into how deep it got, it was pretty extreme. It carried over into some incredibly heavy harassment. When someone calls me a chump on a forum and wants to slander the shiznit out of me, whatever. I don't know that person and their opinions are irrelevant no matter what length they go to attempt to hurt me. But being a kid is hard enough without having a ton of people making it their mission to destroy every ounce of self esteem (which is really the only thing kids can take ownership of).
-
Yeah, but when they specifically tell you they like to get people upset, and you proceed to type like you're furious, you look silly and like you played right into his hand. "Fighting back" on the internet forums doesn't work. It just drags out the thread in a needless flame war.
-
Errr, just because you think you wouldn't be effected by something as a teenage girl who grew up with certain societal and personal pressures doesn't make it true. Not everyone reacts to stuff the same and it's usually not a good idea to hold everyone to the same standard. A friend of mine is a wounded combat veteran who holds the stance that PTSD is made up and anyone claiming it is a crybaby. It's one of the most infuriating things he refuses to budge on.
-
Then your forum behavior is painting you in a terrible light as an awful person. I was somewhat empathetic to your plight (I got over it a long time ago), but anyone with a differing view seems to get an incredibly foul-mouthed and juvenile reaponse from you. You really come across as someone who would throw an absolute spazmatic tantrum in public over a perceived slight.

When Does The " ALPHA!" Excuse End?

Bigger team does not mean a game gets made faster. Just saying. -
When Does The " ALPHA!" Excuse End?

I grew up in the era as well, being in my 30s. I too still play older titles, even revisiting the original Deus Ex. But I am nowhere near done my time with DayZ SA. I also knew what I was jumping into as I did a lot of research and watched videos of others playing. I knew full well it would have a lot less content than the mod. But I feel that anyone who plunged in blind and then had expectations the game never promised is pretty unreasonable, and I've been seeing it a lot. -

If you pumped in more than 100 hours and had fun for the majority of it, it wasn't a waste. If anyone disagrees with me, they have some pretty unreasonable expectations. -
You're going off of what you think someone sounds like, which isn't exactly reliable data. Also, hacking in DayZ compared to other games, mixed with only your personal experience, may not be enough to come up with solid data to make a broad generalization.

When Does The " ALPHA!" Excuse End?
Demoth replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
My point about the picture was it seemed (to me) you were showing a /v/ level of cynicism. . . Which is fine. I am a bit skeptical with any game studios claim they are going to offer a <buzzword> experiencr with <buzzword> level of <buzzword>. So I apologize if you don't fall into that jaded category. But a lot of people bitch that all game devs are marketing drones, yet they constantly fall for all the hype. -

Difference is, this game never promised to be a super polished experience. It was basically a kickstarter crowd funding project with the warning that the end result could go in any number of direction. Paying for this alpha is a huge gamble. So far the dev team has made strides in delivering what they promised, but time will tell if it will be released as something worthwhile to play. But when you link pictures like that, it makes me wonder why you would even buy into an alpha if you hold that mentality. -
When Does The " ALPHA!" Excuse End?
Demoth replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
The problem I've been seeing is that the dev team is addressing a number of issues all the time, but they're not doing it in the order that certain people want. This community is not a hive mind though. As soon as one group of crybabies shuts up, another group starts whining about something else, making it appear the entire community look unsatisfied. Constructive feedback shouldn't be met with "IT'S ALPHA", and I understand concerns that some of these terrible design flubs and bugs will carry over to release. But the big flaw in thinking is statements like saying "the game should not have been released". The game hasn't been released. BI asked for assistance in funding the game and cost cutting measures that are similar to paying for servers to host and submitting bug reports. They've been pretty transparent about what they were doing, yet people continue to buy the alpha then claim they've been cheated. Perhaps if people had any sort of impulse control and understood that they are taking a risk by essentially funding a project that may not yield desired results, they could have opted out participating in this.
