Heeeey, I was in that thread, I see what you're doing! Still, I guess I deserve nothing as I was the jerk who shot first, unprovoked. Then again, I'm the bane of Balota, and allll them phat lewtz is mine!
-
Confound it! That must be it then. Alright, thanks. I'll go see if that's reported in the bug tracker thing.

So when you die, if you log out your body disappears?

To all of those who yell ALPHA at any sort of suggestion
Demoth replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Well.... this is the internet. People are always going to fanboy it up and be assholes. Not really a whole lot you can do about it unless you know that particular problem person in real life. -
To all of those who yell ALPHA at any sort of suggestion
Demoth replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
It's not that they're complaining, it's how they're complaining and what they're complaining about. 1.) Venting about a recent bug that makes the game unplayable, fine. 2.) Saying the game is shit because, "There are no zombies, and their AI is bad, WTF!!!", well, you're stupid. It's been brought up to death and addressed by the devs. If you still complain, you shouldn't be in this alpha. 3.) Whining that the game doesn't cater to your COD easy-mode PVE needs? Again, you're disregarding the vision that the devs have stated, multiple times, and you're being somewhat of a douche by coming into this game and demanding it cater to you when there are 10,000 other games that give you what you want. -
I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to fiddle with my settings to get the best FPS. I've seen different videos where people fiddle with all their settings until they get great FPS, even on older rigs, but I can't find anything for the GTX 580. Anyone have any tips or links? I know this has been posted somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

It was the Post Processing that was apparently getting me.... I think.... At this rate it's hard to tell because no matter what server I join, my FPS starts to die after a few minutes and then I have to Ctrl + Alt + Del and shut the game down. And this is after I replaced all my gear with post patch stuff :/
-
Just FYI, turning PP to Very Low gave me a tremendous FPS boost for the most part, until after 5 minutes everything started to chug... .lower, and lower and lower. I think that's the recent patch issue though, with people still keeping their blinking pre-patch gear.
-
Thanks man, I'll try that! My problem is that I was trying to balance my system specs, but I hear if you lower stuff too much, the CPU takes over. I have a 3 year old i7 (it was top notch 3 years ago), so I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Anywho, Ill try what namco-4 suggested, and hopefully that'll clear up some problems!

Every time I get the jump on someone, they always start running, desnycing everywhere and run through walls. Considering everyone is an olympic sprinter who can make 90 degree turns on a dime going 50 MPH, it's very agitating. I haven't been killed by them yet, but it's because I've always had an M4 so I can spray and kill them before they can kill me. Until they can smooth out movement and aiming, I don't see a lot of people risking hold-ups. And FYI, I don't drop on people to rob them, I do it to ensure they don't get the drop on me. I announce I'm not there to kill them but they ALWAYS run and they are always having terrible desync when I later check their name (if they type)

Balota has been pretty dead lately. My little band of assholes camped that spot and would wrack up lots of kills a day, amd eventually we'd all be killed and have to spend hours regearing. Now that server hopping has been made a lot harder, the only people who come to the air fields are undergeared scavengers, and I don't like killing people who really don't pose a threat. Recently it seems the big cities are hot, but the recent patch has made me drop significant FPS in every city to the point where gun battles all turn into "hip fire spray and pray". I've won all of these 10 FPS spray fests, but they aren't very rewarding.

I would rather have crybaby easy-moders go back to their pick-up-and-play games then fracture this community into a million pieces. Plus I hate to make sweeping generalizations, but admins are always power tripping assholes who are petty as shit. I've very rarely played a game where if you gloat about killing one they don't either kick you or do something to mess with you like teleport you into the wall. I'm also not talking about verbal abuse, but something like if an admin is talking smack and you kill him and say, "Man, it's hard to hear you when I keep blowing your tongue out the back of your head". 99.9% of the time that will incur some non-gameplay form of retribution.

I kind of like the fact people lose all their weapons upon dying. I think it would suck of someone stocked 10 M4's near a spot they were ambushing people, die, respawn and show back up fully geared and ready to kill their attackers. I guess if you had to hide your tent very well because they could be looted, that would be fine.

Debating slow vs. fast zombies: A love letter to the undead
Demoth replied to SirToasty's topic in Suggestions
P.S. A good compromise would be to have the majority of zombies shamblers and sprinkle in some runners. That way if you don't separate the runners, by the time you deal with them you'd be surroundedm -
Debating slow vs. fast zombies: A love letter to the undead
Demoth replied to SirToasty's topic in Suggestions
Runner zombies are good for games where there are fewer zombies. Shamblers are good for games with lots of zombies. A shambler is good because people tend to underestimate them until they swarm you and you trap yourself. Runners are hard to shake, and you don't want to tango with them too long because more than three will murder you. In a game like DayZ, having hordes of runners will spell certain death for anyone who runs into them except for someone with a $5,000+ machine. Even then, you'll probably still die unless you have an assault rifle with a bottomless mag. In other words, making hordes of runners won't make this fun to play, it will make it unplayable. -
Just remember that even though this takes place in a Russian, or least a former Soviet bloc country, the lore of this place did involve a conflict where US Marines had a presence. That is why there SHOULD be US and other NATO weapons, just not as many as Russian and old Soviet weapons. All in all, I like your suggestion for weapons.

Doesn't bullet penetration have something to do with the entire coding of the environment? Wouldn't that require a shit ton of programming that would add even more variables that would cause even more lag issues?
-
I don't want to be a wet blanket, but I agree. I'm fine with emvironmental objects being in the game, but actual items you can pick up and look at that take up loot data? I think the novelty would wear off very fast. I'm not knocking the OP, but I feel like almost anything that is lootable should have SOME function, even if it's small. Then again, one lady suggested we needed a LOT more clothes tailored to women, like skirts, high heels, tube tops etc., that even male characters could wear if they wanted to. I like this idea because I'd love to have my sassy chica running through Elektro looking like a club girl with a magnum. Sure, I'd possibly have 4 inventory slots, but I'd be shot in the face with style.

Server Hopping and why the current doesn't work
Demoth replied to wafflemelon's topic in Suggestions
They ARE working on respawn loot timers, chill. The problem they were having dealt with loot respawning and other loot being on the ground in other places. After a while this caused massive lag and servers would crash. So yeah, I will happen but give it time. -
You still don't get it. It takes time to optimize. If they optimize it before adding and changing things, it will introduce new problems that could potentially cause FPS drops and other performance issues. In other words, they'd have to do all the optimization all over again and this game would take 10 years to launch.

The SKS right now is having some serious damage issues, which is making the gun feel pretty inferior against things like the M4 and even the Mosin, IMO. I tagged a friend the other day, testing out the SKS and hit him in the chest at roughly 100 meters, and he died from a single bullet. Cool. Later, I'm being chopped by a new-spawn who decided he didn't want to be friendly and attack me with a splitting axe. Fine. I plugged him in the chest 3 times with the SKS and he just kept running. He was leaking blood everywhere, but it took about 3 more hits (And I think 4 panic CQC hip shots that missed), meaning I did a mag dump on him. Still, I shouldn't have had to bury that many 7.62 rounds into a dude in a t-shirt and jeans. Meanwhile, I pick up someone else's M4 later (I snuck up and FNX them in the back of the head) and while that gun also can take multiple shots, it seems to have a lot more consistency in damage. You can still even drop someone in one or two shots to the chest. So unless I've just been having really weird experiences, can we have a look-see about bullet damage? I've read others saying they have had to put three or four center mass rounds into people, which is pretty bogus for a semi-auto 10 round rifle.

Let me try to explain. A lot of time, games are ruined because developers try to please too many people. Features like unnecessary multiplayer in a single player game, quick time events to make things easier for players, and copy+pasting features from popular games. Anywho who could do even a TINY bit of research before hitting "purchase" could find out what this game is about, what the community is like and what players do to each other on a regular basis. People still buy it and then whine that it's not a relaxing, casual game and the dev team should divert resources to implement new features to cater to them. Well, how about go buy one of the 1,000,000 million other zombie survival games out on the market that are easier? Like someone else said, go buy State of Decay. I'm not exactly the hardest of hardcore gamers anymore, as I'm getting older. And I have no issue with people getting private servers outside of the hive and doing whateeeever they want. But right now, Rocket isn't exactly a huge studio. They need to focus, right now, on making the game in the vision they have. Diverting those resources to water this down and remove core concepts might seem easy. "All they have to do is flip a switch and turn off player damage on each other". Well, it's usually a bit more complex than that, might have bugs of it's own, and possibly people finding ways around it to still kill players that would divert more resources to go in and fix. So that's why people are getting push back.
-
Let them alienate whoever they want. Again, a lot of us are tired of being sold on a core game concept, only to have it later switched because a bunch of casual gamers jumped on, found it too hard and wanted it watered down. I get what you're saying about having your own private PvE servers, and that will happen in time. But diverting whatever resources the dev team has to make people happy who don't even like what the game is trying to be is foolish. The dev team IS trying to work on incentives not to KOS, but shooting people and / or robbing people will always be an integral part of this game. And you keep using the term "griefing". I honestly don't think you understand what that word means.

The new logout system is bad. Very, very bad.
Demoth replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
I agree with you. I often tell people to calm their bitch tits because it's an alpha, so problems will arise. But because it's an alpha, it's our duty to report the bugs in the tracker as well as discuss it, vent about it and make noise so others can either, A.) Not get screwed by the bug, and B.) Hopefully get more people up voting the reported problem so it gets more attention. But yeah, most people seem to be saying it's an alpha to dismiss someone's complaint. Then again, when someone whines about the lack of zombies or their AI, I want to gut punch them because THAT'S an alpha issue that has been beaten to death, even by the devs. -
Its not the Rain, there is a massive Memory Leak.
Demoth replied to blissfulkunt's topic in General Discussion
Well Grimey, while we have politely disagreed on this in the past, I can safely say I'm with you on this one. I understand that it's an Alpha and every now and then, more often "now", things will be jacked up and we'll have a tough time playing, but dropping a patch on a Friday seems like a really bad idea, considering there seems to ALWAYS be problems when a game gets a patch, from Alpha to Beta to full release. Dropping it when they know the most people will be on and they won't be around to fix it seems just like a goofy mood. But whatever, I guess beggers (me) can't be choosers.
