Or it could be because they're attacking you......
-
I edited the OP to put my report ticket in about this. If you too believe that absorption rate for bullets it insane right now, please upvote it. I really don't like people becoming walking tanks because they stuffed a protector case in their pants. But yeah, it's currently turning everyone into a walking tank, so any gun other than the M4 at most ranges is useless.... as well as the fact that you can survive multiple Mosin shots, so it's pretty easy to tell where you're being shot from, rush their position and then hose them down with spray-and-pray (killed 3 wouldbe snipers that way last night).
-
After playing some more last night, it truly is getting pretty out of hand. Some dude shot my friend about 50 times with an M4, finally rending him unconcious.... unconcious. So I manage to find him looting my friend and plugged him in the legs with a Mosin. He gets up, bleeding and then starts booking it. I shoot him in the legs again and break his legs because he suddenly drops to the floor and tries to crawl around in the middle of the runway in Balota airfield. I shoot a few more times, missing, and then tag him in the back. Still crawling. He then thinks he sees me, fires, goes dry so I rush him. Then get to him and I just hear him say, "Fuck you, just kill me. You ruined all my mags, so you're not getting anything good". So I plug him in the head. He' wearing a motorcycle helmet that looked pristine, but I shot him in the face and suddenly his helmet model goes to crap and he's like, "Ow". So I shoot him in the helmet again, and he's like, "What are you doing, shooting me in the finger?" So I shoot him in the head AGAIN. And he's still talking... meaning he's unconscious. So with a ruined motorcycle helmet, he still took an additional 2 Mosin shots, point blank.

Sorry, misunderstood.

I'm sorry, but a baseball cap and aviators aren't going to stop a 7.62x39mm round being shot from 3 feet away. Well, still, it's trying to be somewhat true to how things work. Arma and the DayZ mod were pretty well known for their realism with bullet trajectory and ballistic characteristics. I currently rock the M4 only, and I've murdered a LOT of people because shotguns, SKS's and Mosin rounds are not enough to take me down. I have had to use 3 morphine injectors, a splint, eight bandages and receive a couple saline bags, but no one has been able to drop me because I just load my character with gear and replace all my clothes after getting shot and I'm basically a walking tank.

It also wouldn't be unusual for us to gather around the body of one of these enthusiasts and laugh at him as the gleam in his eyes faded to a dull shine.

Can you treat the axes with a little more respect?
Demoth replied to jubeidok's topic in Suggestions
Running and swinging is currently the only effective strategy against someone trying to gun you down, so taking that out would mean that hitting a player with a charging swing would have to be an automatic kill / incapacitation. My very first gunfight involved a guy who hit me 3 times with a fire axe. It jacked me up, but it didn't kill me and I shot him to death. Let's be real though, if someone buried an axe into you, swinging it full speed and it connected, you're going down. Even if the edge is blunt as hell, that's a small surface area that is being swung and is quite top heavy. If it didn't cleave your arm off, it'd certainly be breaking bones that no splint or morphine shot would be fixing up outside the span of months. -
And the answer will always be the fireaxe, because it 1 shots zeds, and zeds are broken and cheesy so letting them live longer than a second runs you the risk of having them faze through walls or hit you when they aren't facing you. Or you could take the smaller melee weapon, I guess, that only takes up 2 slots but currently takes 90 headshots to kill 1 zombie with.

Neutral safe zones that physically prevent combat
Demoth replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
I'm having a hard time understanding if these types of posts are by the ignorant, or people who are just trying to troll. As soon as I see any thread about disabling PVP in this game, I immediately think back to 4chan where someone would post troll bait and a post would be "Claim that x, y or z is a shit game; guaranteed replies". It's such a lazy form of trolling yet people kept (keep? Haven't been there in a long while) just taking it hook, line and sinker. -
I was being super nice at the North East airfield last night with a friend. Some dude with a Mosin scared the shit out of me and my friend shot him in the chest, but it didn't kill him (bullets apparently maim non-stop but never seem to kill anymore). The guy was yelling, "Whoa, stop, I'm not here to fight! I didn't mean to startle you". We then came out cautiously, though we had a third friend providing sniper cover who apparently fell asleep at the wheel because his wife came home. Anywho, we traded some ammo with him, I gave him some food and I even traded him his ruined assault vest for my pristine one as a token of good will. He then gave me two M4 double mags he couldn't use at that time so I made out alright, and we went our separate ways. I then ran into 3 new spawns who had come running to the base for supplies and guns. All of them were actually pretty cool and we all geared up. So all in all there were 7 people by that time, all armed with some type of firearm, scavanging the airfield and trading supplies / giving away food to help everyone. It was pretty weird. Then some fully mega-kitted dude saw us, popped at a shot at the least supplied guy there who was waving at him with his shotgun holstered on his back. I think we drilled the guy with at least 70 rounds, ruining everything he had but ensuring he died. All in all, however, every encounter we had probably had gone well because we approached them on our terms. If someone was running, we made sure they were alone. I would then approach them from cover where my friend had my back (or I could get the first shots out) and I'd start talking to them. If they didn't talk or type back and started pulling out guns and moving in a fashion I deemed threatening, I would end them after several warnings to relax, "Because if I wanted to kill you guys, I would have shot you five minutes ago". Outside of shooting and wounding that one guy who surprised me, I think everyone was playing as though they valued their character's life even if they did not have much. While I don't want to use terms that imply people are playing the game wrong, I do think it's slightly jarring when people play this game as a regular shooter with a K/D spread. Realistically, I don't think someone would start popping off rounds at a large group of heavily armed people unless they were some type of ex-special forces commando who had set up this perfectly planned ambush ahead of time, not just ran up hip firing while everyone was spread out and he, the attacker, had no real cover. That just strikes me as someone who really is playing simply to cause other people misery and is suicidal. It definitely throws in a giant randomness factor into every encounter..... .... and I'm somewhat of a hypocrite because I sometimes get very bored and wander into Elektro to engage in firefights with other groups of heavily armed people just to see if I can kill a few of them before I inevitably die.

Personal feelings of military weapons (and future weapons) in this game
Demoth replied to Demoth's topic in General Discussion
For zombie killing, of course. But I don't think that DayZ will ever be free from roving bands of maniacs no matter how hard Rocket tries to discourage KOS or general banditry. Again, it's fine to have things like bows and makeshift melee weapons, but they have to actually function smoothly or no one will give them the time of day. Despite all the talking of changing this and that, game engines always have their limitations and I'll be VERY surprised if Rocket can somehow turn what they have now and overhaul it so hard that melee and non firearm projectiles become useful. Then again, killing someone with a bow would probably be stupidly hard if they're running around AND firing full auto from the hip (fear of being shot, dirt kicked up in your face, and them being a moving target). I know there are people with insane bow skills who could probably hit me in the eye while I was running from 100 meters away, but as I said above, there is a difference between something being hard because it requires practice, and something being hard because the game feels as though its limitations are actively combating you. I just think it'd be cool running into someone with an MP5 SMG while I was toting a PP-19 Bizon. We could then figure a way to try and barter to split ammo, the PP-19 uses 7.62x25mm Tokarev (yes, it can use 9mm Parabellum but it wouldn't here) while the MP5 uses 9mm. This exchange could also go smoothly because even though each had ammo for the other person's gun, neither actually could find a magazine for said gun. Again, more guns = good I believe. I mean, look how hard it is to find FNX magazines as it is without server hopping or camping specific loot zones for server resets. Now imagine there are 15 different handguns in the games that use magazines that aren't interchangeable. -
Personal feelings of military weapons (and future weapons) in this game

Also, re-read my post. Holy Jesus typos. Too many for me to even want to bother and go back and fix.... I also wanted to add that I understand that 90% of the content of this game hasn't been put in yet, so AGAIN, I'm not blasting the devs about lack of content, unpolished movements and whatnot. Just voicing that the current discussion about "less guns" and "more improvised stuff" is cool in a way, but also worrying if the animation stuff isn't fixed. -
Personal feelings of military weapons (and future weapons) in this game
Demoth replied to Demoth's topic in General Discussion
I just worry that we'll all be running around with bows and arrows and 3 people with military weapons will basically be running the entire server, having a great time while 97 other people are getting exploded. -
Dude, it's a former Soviet bloc country. Illegal weapons trading, stockpilig etc. could easily explain away all manner of low end to super high tech military small arms from all over the globe. Obviously I don't want everyone running around with recoil free high rate assault rifles with thermal scopes, but more guns of all variety are welcome. I think they need to add a shitload of guns to this game, just mismatch calibers so that finding ammo is uncommon and finding guns are rare... and finding two that match is very hard. I think this would set up interesting encounters of ammo trading (and hoping not to be double crossed)

Part of the issue, I'm realizing, is that camo and the ability to blend is sort of beats everything. Everyone I know goes for all greens / tans / olive drab and camos, and so do all the people we fight. When I go solo, I can't even count how many times entire groups of KOS banditos have walked within 3 feet of me while I hide motionless in a bush because I was in all green.
-
I'm very torn by this. I mean, I like them adding in other weapons so that the game doesn't become "Server hop 50 times until you get an M4", but still..... I guess my real concern is that the guns that we have still use a clunky ARMA system, and so unless the overhaul the entire system, I feel that any more weapons that aren't guns are going to be incredibly difficult to use and only result in people with military weapons absolutely crushing servers.
-
I liked the fact that DayZ mod had a metric f--k ton of guns. the interesting thing about having the game absolutely bloated with possibly 90 types of weapons would be trying to find magazines for your gun, and the appropriate ammo. I think it would be crazy to have all kinds of weapons, all varieties, makes, models and so on, but only ever having a handfull of bullets (unless you somehow got REALLY lucky and stumbled upon mag after mag / bullet after bullet) Again, this would require lots of different ammo types, from 9mm to .40 cal to 45 to 50 AE to 44 mag, .357 and that's only a small sample of handgun rounds.

I normally like reading what you right, but this 1.5km and 2.5km stuff about the Mosin? Whaaaa? What targets were they hitting with Mosins at 1.5km? Let alone 2.5km?!?!? That's 100 meters farther than the longest recorded sniper kill, and that was with a .50 BMG round. I'm sorry man, but I have to seriously call into question your sources because the only gun I can imagine being able to hit those distances are specially built bench-rest target guns (and even then....)

100man servers... my biggest fear has been realised.
Demoth replied to Cenobyte's topic in General Discussion
Dude, first rule of fight club, bro.... c'mon. Without respawning supplies, I'm quite worried about 100 man servers. I have a feeling dying of hunger will become a bigger threat. -
Pretty sure they didn't just make the movie without a deal.... hence, they bought the rights. Still, it's silly if they went all copyright crazy. Movie studios are known, however, for being quite petty.

Loot farming server owners, and why the server browser is to blame
Demoth replied to todd10k's topic in General Discussion
There are servers with names that explicitly state they are kick-on-join so the host can loot in peace. Most, however, aren't so obvious. -
My best moment was I gave a new spawn a ruined Magnum with ruined rounds still in it. I guess he didn't check the condition before he pointed it and I hear *click click* I simply said "and that's why I don't trust anyone" and put s bullet in his face.

Why would military gear spawn ONLY in military bases? We are playing some time after the disaster. Military bases would have been picked clean a while ago and their weapons spread out amonst survivors and soldier who could have ultimately died in a house / barn from zeds. I don't advocate that M4's and military loot spawn everywhere but there should be a tiiiny chance you find anything anywhere. To many people act like an outbreak would mean everyone immediately turned into zombie so the current world's items are a snap shot of what life was like right before the outbreak.

About 7 European dudes were shooting Bambis in Elektro. I dove behind a wall because ALL OF THEM WERE SNIPING. Each had some type of scoped weapon, as all fell except one. I met this nice other bambi and we decided to charge. The other dude killed one M4+ACOG asshole with extinguisher and gave it to me because his vision was jacked and his arm was broken. Thanks to him giving me the M4 I hid in a house and picked off 3 more bandits. 2 rushed us and I killed them because they were silly trying to file into one door. All these guys knew eachother, and warned us that their last guy had a Mosin with a LRS. I gave my new friend the M4 back and took an SKS with a PU and gave this guy saline. We then charged out and when the "great shot" missed about 3 times we spotted him and chased him all the way back into the main city of Elektro, but he managed to duck out and log. Thus ended my adventure and I went off to Balota while my new friend took a trek north to go scout for food.

If you were near Balota and shooting at people in the ATC, I was probably one of them. Whoever actually did that broke my flippin' arm and made me quite sour.
