Players are more attached to loot then keeping character alive
Demoth replied to Pokerguy12's topic in General Discussion
I play this way too... until I get killed by a blatant hacker (very rare, not the point of my post). If I get killed by some BS like a zombie clipping me out of a building or desync or a hacker, I tend to become quite jaded for a few days and then just grab whatever mismatched clothes, ANY weapon available and just run to Elektro / Berenzino and try to stalk-kill anyone with a gun for shits and giggles. At this stage of the alpha, it's hard for me to care about my character's life all the time because at any moment I could get killed by absolute bullshit I have no control over. When it happens in rapid succession, I become a "why bother" player towards survival focus, and more on action/fun. I haven't been this way in a week, however, as I take a lot more breaks from DayZ as I'm incredibly busy with work, PT and now I can switch to Rust if DayZ pisses me off, and vise versa. -

IMO, the exp addition wouldn't change what we have now. Think of it like this: Right now, new spawns suicide and YOLO rush people who have guns because they have nothing to lose. If you add in EXP, and you lose it all on death, nothing changes. A fresh spawn will still have nothing to lose. If you made it so that you only lose EXP for dying in rapid succession, like suiciding for a better spawn or dying within 60 minutes of respawning because you bum rushed a high loot area to gear up, you run the risk of high levelers not worrying about dying cause "all I lost was loot", BUT griefing on the coast will grow exponentially to make high EXP players lose their EXP by killing them as soon as they respawn. Just my 2 cents. -
I was just implying the shots are easy now if you pre-range your shots (like a window of the firehouse tower) since bullet drop is the only factor you have to take into account. Even with zeroing maxing at 800 and no mil dots, its still pretty easy to remember where to aim to score a hit. Now, the issue one one hitter quitters, that's a separate and agitating issue. A can of tuna stopping a 7.62x51mm is quite annoying.

In the game, not true. There are certain spots on the map where I have ranged to 1,000 meters with the Mosin and can hit people so long as they aren't moving. In the real world, a good marksman with superb match grade .308 or .300 magnum (or there around) can hit someone at that range too. It's incredibly hard, but very possible. But yeah, once you hit the 1 kilometer mark and beyond, you should be upgrading to an anti-material round like the .50 BMG. Edit - I should clarify that despite shooting and owning a sniper rifle, I'm not military nor am I trained to be making those types of shots. I've done the reading and research, but don't take my words as an authority on the entire subject.

How does a "rotten" apple become "pristine"?

A worn banana has been places and seen things that give it character. As long as you don't eat the peel, and you wash your hands, you should be good to go. -
I want my chick character to have a beard with all types of braids, knots and all those bells and whistles you normally associate with fictional Nordic characters.

Every now and then it doesn't hurt to take the bolt assembly apart to clean out the carbon.I don't have to do it often, but I'm slighty OCD with my Sig Sauer 3000. Then again, constant cleaning and disassembly of a gun isn't always good for the gun.

Hackers on dayz believe it or not!
Demoth replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
What PR? What are you talking about? The only advertising are YouTubers who play and showcase the bugs and and lag, but how the game is fairly beautiful and intense. Then you get the Steam advertising that tells you NOT to buy the game because it's in early Alpha. -
I just made a fundamental* mistake and paid* the price.

If you're truly worried about people properly writing in the English language, so much so that you insult them on a video game forum, it is incredibly stupid to call them out on spelling when you cannot handle grammar. -
Do you believe people who shoot on sight are terrible at DayZ?
Demoth replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I have held up only 2 people and neither had guns. I hate to say it, but successfully holding someone up takes more skill for a number of reasons. 1. They may just YOLO it and run, or attack. You have to react fast. 2. You need to be convincing. You are dealing with some random dude. Better find out what makes them tick to get the response you want. Anyone can just shoot someone in this game. Getting them to comply brings in more factors. -
The bounty system doesn't really make much sense to me. How will the game know you're just KOS'ing? What would keep people in big clans from using the system to grief people?

And like I posted, most people who try to correct grammar and spelling generally have their own posts riddled with errors. Not saying my spelling and grammar are perfect. Hell, I don't always use commas correctly. -
I was thinking the same thing. Orlok's post sounded incredibly filthy!
-
He's just mad jealous because he was about to make the topic and you beat him to it, all the while punching his mom and ruining his credit score. This is the ONLY way I could comprehend someone getting so mad over your thread.

Why such a difference between title development comparing to Dayz?
Demoth replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
Anything is possible. I have no clue how DayZ will ultimately turn out, but I have had a blast so far. Games like Star Citizen will always make me skeptical. The whole, "I'll believe it when I see it". I've been around for a while, and I've been burned by too many games with grand concepts that had no hope of achieving what they set out to do AND ended up just being incredibly bad. Then again, I've had other games be hype trains that did deliver. Again, who knows. -
Why putting heart attacks in game makes no sense
Demoth replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't bother trying to reason with the OP. If he's going to flip out, tell the dev team how they should prioritize their development processes in a non-constructive way and then call it "gay", he's probably hovering around the age of 16 with a much lower maturity level. Not the type of person you want to have internet debates with. -

"Receiving". You also forgot a period. The irony. -
Well, if combat logging isn't cheating, then neither is going 3PP with fists out to glitch so you can see through walls. I mean, everyone can do it, right? Not trying to make a slippery slope argument, but if the argument is that it's just a cheap tactic because it's an exploit, that means that every exploitable tactic is also allowable.
-
It's really hard to kill someone you wounded with a 900 meter chest wound, only to have them duck into s building and log out. Instead of trying to escape through cunning, counter snipe or rush the sniper, they just log out, change servers and heal up / replace gear. You can't cross 900 meters in 30 seconds.

Why such a difference between title development comparing to Dayz?
Demoth replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
And I love reading posts like this that claim a game that is still in the conceptual stage is already better than a game that's still in early alpha. How about we let both games come to completion before we start fanboy waring about which has a more successful approach? -
While saying the hardest skills lie in stalking and concealment are true, saying that "anyone can be a good triggerman" is being quite disingenuous. Being a great shot over 800 meters is not something everyone could do consistently. There are a lot of variables when you start getting out to the distances that DayZ supports. Even temperature and elevation effect trajectory in the real world, as well as cross winds and if the target is moving. You add in all these factors, somehow, and this forum will explode with QQ that pulling off 1,000 meter eyeball shots are "impossible". Personally, I'd love it, but that's for the dev team to decide.

This ones for all you more guns more guns people.
Demoth replied to Mr Sinister's topic in General Discussion
If you want to jump to conclusions and make threats about leaving, that's your business. All guns are going to be tweaked to bring them to real world levels of lethality. That said, a .50 BMG round will be almost as lethal as a .308. I mean, a .308 generally wouldn't blow your leg clean off or cause your head to pop, but a well placed shot is quite lethal. Also, a 1.5 km shot with an AS50 is pretty deserved if they correctly implement flight time and windage. -
You lost me at implying vanilla WoW wasn't casual EZ mode. If you had mentioned Ultime Online, Lineage II or Final Fantasy XI, it might have given you credibility as king nerd hardcore.

Demoth replied to Mr Sinister's topic in General Discussion
That's a terrible analogy. More guns with more ammo types with the same weapon spawn rates would actually decrease the pool of people with a gun and near infinite usable ammo. Remember: Diversity isn't always a bad thing. -
Helis make the game snowball far too hard for the people who have them, that's the problem. Unless they're easy to shoot down, its enables people who alreadt have everything to zip to any point on the map and grab gear to hoard / replace. DayZ needs to maintain a balance between time committment rewards vs. skill rewards. Having a large group with near infinite resources that can fast react to any spot on the map in 30 seconds will end up causing a power monopoly that will be fun for people in that group and no one else. There were groups in the mod that apparently took everything once they had the helicopter and left everyone with the option of being SOL or switching servers.
