I feel like I've done a 180 over the years, in my position about weapons in this game. While I think melee absolutely needs that overhaul so that it doesn't feel so insanely clunky and stupid, but I also don't want military gear to be nearly as hard to get as it is. I don't want Epoch levels of military gear raining from the skies, but right now, it just feels so.... boring, now that it feels like loot spawn rates have plummeted. I was up in Gorka, on an empty server, and there was practically nothing there. I made my way to NWAF, and found one... ONE AK-101 and a half filled mag for it. Between server hoppers and squads who get geared up, only to move to full servers, there is very little thrill in being that lone survivor on a full server because everything will be picked clean, and you'll be up against several SEAL Team Six look alikes.

Because this isn't an arcade shooter, I know that some of the difficulty in navigation, and weapon handling, is purposefully made that way so you aren't doing sick 360-no-scope headshots, and running around like an action movie star, firing from the hip and taking out 30 badguys a minute. That said, the thing that has always bothered me about the ARMA series, and the engine they use, is that it generally causes the other players you see to seem as though they don't have any transfer of motion when changing directions. This causes people to seemingly keep 100% movement speed when changing complete directions, making it almost impossible to hit people without fully automatic weapons because you're fighting the handling of your weapon, and the desync / server update of the player position. This causes a lot of tactics to revolve around just running around like crazy in erratic patterns, not just because it makes you harder to draw a bead on, but because the game engine seems to have real difficulties in tracking your movements in real time, causing people to look like they're making a hundred hairpin turns a second. Has there been any word about this? So far, all the animations in Escape from Tarkov look incredibly smooth, and while I know that game is going more towards gun combat, and DayZ isn't, it still doesn't mean that the game could artificially make gun fights more difficult by making other people's movements so floaty.

Fixing character movement animation jankiness / floatiness will go a long way into making this game great.

Alright, cool. Thanks for the post. I got into a gun fight today, which was my first one in... a year? I haven't really played a lot. Anyway, I won the fight because I had an M4, and when I hit him the first time from about 50 meters away, he basically just started to zig zag, and the animation was crazy, looking like he was ice skating and rocket boosting to change directions. It was very annoying. -
I've been away from this game for a long, LONG time. Last time I played, all loot spawned in at a server restart, and never respawned. I heard they were going to change that, so as long as people left an area, loot was going to spawn back in. How does it work now, though? The reason I ask is because my character was starving, and I went through an unlooted Elektro and Cherno, and found literally 1 can of tuna. In fact, when it comes to gear, spending almost two hours going through both cities, I found maybe... 6 items total, 4 of which was freakin' bags of garden lime. I made my way to the Balota military base, and that had basically nothing. I then resorted to server hopping across 10 different servers, 7 of which appeared to be unlooted, but having nothing in them. When I watch YouTubers play, they're constantly gearing up super fast. What's the trick? Has a recent patch messed up loot tables? Am I just in the wrong area? Any help is appreciated.

Third Person View should be Over-the-Shoulder, NOT a bird's eye view.

Full Spectrum Warrior for Xbox and PC. You anything not fully in your LOS was kinda blurry, and enemies invisible until your character's head was actually peaking around a corner. -
DAYZ Standalone VS. ARMA 2 MOD version
Demoth replied to nickaepi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Standalone isn't finished. It's an Alpha bug test / server stress test. The "game" hasn't been released yet. The game warns you multiple times not to buy it if you just want to play and have fun, as they know it's a bug / glitch nightmare with lots of placeholder content.... yet people still buy it then whine like children that it's not a fully optimized finished product. I wish people like that would heed the "DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN". -
I just randomly break my legs every time I try to go up into the firestation. So obviously, this means, for now, I won't be going into fire stations. However, is there any news on this? The bug tracker has it listed, but that was from back in 2013. Is there a way to prevent this magical leg snapping phenomenon?

Yeah, as long as it coincides with your ideals? The issue is that, as Caboose below me stated, I'm not asking for PvP to be removed. I'm simplu stating that I'll be happy if the dev team steers the game un a direction that makes it incredibly time and effort very inefficient to play in such a style. Heck, even in Overpoch it can be very obnoxious to fire off a gun at random people because you get swarmed. Sure, zeds don't do too much damage and there are bugs that were turned into "features" that let you deal with it, but being an Elektro sniper with anything unsuppressed can be disasterous. If the game, at launch, continues to be "get geared and PvP because there's nothing else to do", then the game has failed IMO.

Dude, play one of the DayZ mods, Epoch or Overwatch (or the combo, Overpoch which is my favorite right now). DayZ SA was never supposed to be this game of roving a-holes who KOS everyone for no reason. Get into a game which actually supports this playstyle. As for losing customers who like this? Good. That means BI is sticking to their guns and moving forward with their original vision, rather than selling out to the CoD crowd.
-
Now you know why I wasn't listening to you, Rags. So yes, apparently I was calling the Dev team "liars", in yours words. It feels nice to be right.

I am hoping this is the place to post this. If not, any redirection to the appropriate forum section would be appreciated. But you chaps seem to be fairly intelligent. So I convinced my friend to get the game, (Arma 2 and OA) so we could play Overpoch together. Now his system is stronger than mine, but after about 1 to 2 minutes of play time, his FPS starts to rapidly drop until the game is choppy and unplayable for him. I have attempted to help in every way available online, from the editing of .cfg files to the DayZ Launcher / CCG Launcher launch parameters, to the video settings / advanced settings tweaks. Nothing seems to help. After a minute or two, the game just becomes super choppy. And it usually gets REALLY bad if zombies are around. Also, in the DayZ Launcher, he is trying to "validate Arma 2" and it stays locked at 0%. His path directory is accurate, and the game validates on Steam, but not through the DayZ launcher. Just FYI. Here are his comp specs. Very awesome. I will keep that in mind. I'm currently, however, addicted to Overpoch. Once I start getting that survivalist itch back, I'll be sure to mentally note this to ensure i don't continuously cripple myself.
-
The funny part was i wasn't disagreeing with anything. I asked a question, and apparently this caused unbridled fury.
-
And yet it's happening to others. You and your friends are not the majority. I also did not claim that it was happening to the majority. I asked if this was being looked at, and people act like I was shooting at school children. Edit: And when was I "screaming"? I asked if it was being looked at, then I asked if there was a way to avoid this while still being able to actually go into these buildings so I don't starve to death. Apparently that's me having a meltdown.
-
Others have stated that going to the second story of any building is potential death out of the blue. It's been agreed upon as a big problem on the bug tracker. I simply asked if they were looking into it, and people decided to come at me like I had insulted their mother and said the game was going to fail. Neither of which was done, because, A). Your mother is a classy lady, and B). I actually like how this game is shaping up.

You can reaction image all you want. I just find it amusing that you're wrong, and start thrashing like a child and resorting to questioning the intelligence of other posters (other than me) for simply voicing a concern. What brought such hostility is beyond me.
-
And yet they have fixed other bugs in the past, hence your entire post and point is moot.
-
In order for that, you would have to start.
-
You could also stop being a condescending prick and stop speaking for the dev team like them fixing this issue will directly cause you to hemorrhage money.I already explained that a lot of towns are picked clean, far from the coast. When starving to death, it behooves me to check second stories of homes so i can find that can of beans that might get me to the next town. When that move of necessity kills me in a non-intended way, I'd say giving it a gander might not be a terrible idea. Or you could continue flailing because you have some huge vendetta against bug fixes.
-
When going anywhere has a random chance of outright killing you for no reason, that's a pretty big issue. I consider this pretty game breaking and will wait until it's fixed before coming back. I hadn't played until May, but every town i go to is picked clean no matter how North I go, so checking every nook and cranny is important.
-
Alright, well, it's way way worse. I just randomly died in some house while being prone on the second floor. Just a regular red house. Nothing was upstairs, I wasn't shot. I just started taking random leg damage. About 5 hits. First one just took my pants to worn. Then ruined. Then bone fracture. Then a 4th hit just made my screen grey, then died. No bleeding, nothing else was taking damage. It was just like I was constantly falling through the floor, coming back up, then falling again until I died. Yes yes, Alpha and all that, but this is ridiculous. I don't remember ever having this many issues before.
-
Then perhaps I'm not quite following the whole conversation, because in the OP, I don't really see a real cry to focus this entire game to be just a shooter. What am I missing here?
-
Well, you did kind of come into his thread, call it pointless in a rather rude fashion. I can only imagine you posting that and sitting back while crossing your arms, whispering to your monitor, "I sure showed him". Issue is, you have to think through what you're going to post, and what type of response you're going to elicit... or whether there's even any worth to telling people you don't like what they wrote. It's like, I'm in my house, quietly playing music in my living room with other people. I posted a sign, perhaps, on my front lawn saying, "If you like classical music, come inside!" Then you rush in, kick my stereo system, and scream about how classical music is boring.
-
Threads like this are pointless.... HOLD ON! I like you as a poster, RAM, as I think your threads and posts are well thought out... but that's why they're pointless. Having any kind of civil discussion or "food for thought" is kinda pointless on these boards, as of late. If you point out a flaw in the game, you're a hater. If you run into someone screaming and tell them to calm down, you're a fanboy. There are still a few people I know as regulars who I've diagareed with, such as Grimey Rick, who I still like because (for the most part) they seem to know how to form a dissenting opinion / counter point while being intelligent about it. But other than those few, this place is become a real daycare center.

1. Comparing building a game like SC2 to something as huge in scope as DayZ is... bad. I mean, Why can't an entire functional city be built in the same time as a cabin in the woods? Lazy woodland people. 2. Your analogy about game development to doing inventory in an armory is... well, you know what, nevermind. I don't even know where to being, or whether you would understand, how this makes no sense.
