Chernarus is a made up country. Yes it's based on real areas but the country is not supposed to be in Ukraine I don't believe.

Why do the majority of players i encounter suck?

I avoid most player interaction for the fact that 50% of players will shoot you on sight, another 15% will tell you they're friendly then shoot you as soon as you're back is turned, another 10% or so will do the little here need ammo or food trick and shoot you as soon as you pick it up and then you're left with the last 25% who either hide in the woods and run from everyone or just get killed non stop because we don't shoot the first thing that moves. I can't wait for the new CoD to come out and take a good amount of PvP people and more survival elements to be added. -

Yeah I second that Merrels are awesome. I love mine. Cow poop, mud, snow it doesn't matter they still last.

It's implemented in exp right now and it's crazy stupid. You need new shoes every 5 minutes. I literately needed around 5 pairs just to hike from elektro to Stary. Food, guns clothes are found easily enough. Shoes however are now a rare commodity. I'm sure it will be adjusted soon.

While it is one of my favorite guns to shoot I'm just not really in favor of lots of American weaponry around. Things that would have been used to respond to the zombie outbreak are one thing but, I highly doubt there would be many M1 Carbines unless they made the case they were shipped in for police officers to use like a lot of pacific nations used to do. -
I have yet to get a cooking pot ad propane set up to cook correctly. Just cook them on an open fire.

Luck of the draw. I run into the hills as soon as I have some clothes a melee weapon and a bag. Then loot military bases and gear up from there.

Characters get wiped after each update

they don't get wiped after every update. the last wipe was over a month ago. yes they are working on it. But, it's hard with new updates coming out, so new hacks come out. If you think you've run into a hacker record it and send it to the staff. -
What kind of items do stay on the floor on persistent servers?

I don't trust it so i wont leave anything anywhere :p I've seen some servers that leave everything that was on the ground at restart others that don't, some spawn new stuff in with the old, other don't want to spawn anything. -

I thought this had gotten better. a patch or two ago I would literally be doing nothing be searching for new clothes and then new clothes after I had just found those. Also vests would get killed nonstop. I have had shirts ruined but not as quickly or often. But it does seem to happen a bit more in experimental.
