I want all kinds of choppers, including gunships. Pretty much what the mod had. It's pretty sad that a standalone game, made from a mod, has less actually fun features than the mod it is based on. (Yeah farming and apple picking simulator doesn't sell the game to me). Those things are hard to hide since you need to put them under open sky, unlike trucks that you can drive between trees and call them concealed. This makes them much more open to theft. Also, existence of choppers would make camps much more unsafe, since you can see more from above (could definitely use camo net or something). But the teamwork aspect with aerial transport is what I really want to look towards. You are bunkered down in some tall building (e.g. construction site, or one of those processing centers), you're getting shot at, completely overwhelmed, you can't even poke your head out because it'll get blown off. You just cover the entry point to where you're at. In the meantime a chopper is heading your way to get you out of there. He gets there, lands quickly, all of you leg it to the chopper and are up in the air, heading back to safety. One of you gets on the door gun and shoot towards your enemies, though you're unsure if you hit anyone at all. One of those things that would make the game epic. Not god damn zucchini growing turning it into an African Child Simulator 2015... Regarding planes I'm towards a no, there is generally few places where you can land, and even fewer where you can start from. The topography of chernarus makes it overall unfriendly to planes, limiting you to airfields and few of the largest open fields (even though these tend to not be flat). Unless we are talking about vertical start fighters (e.g. F35), but these hardly fit the area.

DayZ 0.55 has given the sentence "the coast is clear" a true meaning
nexdemise replied to Mental Burner's topic in General Discussion
This thread is perfect evidence that any centralized economy has failed miserably, same goes for forcing persistence - persistent servers tend to gravitate to having very very little loot available, which combined with the coast being devoid of such loot results in people dying of starvation before they can make any progress whatsoever. Someone explain to me the purpose of a central loot economy... This isn't a god damn MMO where you'll put your couple million GP items on display for the plebs to see. This is a game where you should get attached to nothing because everything can be lost at any moment (you can get shot, your camp can get raided, the server where your camp is at might disappear, or the devs decide to change how items are handled (e.g. you shouldn't be able to recursively stack items inside of eachother), and do a wipe). All those nicer items that CLE promises (e.g. SVD) will likely sit unused in someone's camp. The rarer the item the more it will be hoarded. What is the purpose of having X AS50s if 3/4s of that amount will sit on the ground in someone's camp? This gets even more ridiculous when you hear devs talk about putting some item quantities in single digits (e.g. 3). Most people won't even know the item exists in the game, let alone see it, let alone be in a position where they can obtain it. -
Military bases, prison island. They became really rare these days, but then again - they always were rare. Much rared than 74 mags which in turn are much rarer than AKM mags. I own a couple found in this update.

why doesn't the bipod fit on the mosion?!
nexdemise replied to GhostSlayer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
There exist bipods which are made solely for the mosin irl. Most dating back to the WW2 similar to the PU Scope. You won't see those in game because Bohemia hates snipers. If nothing else you could duct tape a picatiny rail bipod to a mosin irl, wouldn't be too great but it'd work. -
Before I get generic responses from people who want to +1 their postcount: yes I verified the files through steam, and yes I deleted the profile folders. Haven't tried to reinstall the game from scratch but if all verified I doubt that'd help. So anyways this is what happens: Game starts, I get the normal Bohemia and DAYZ splash screens, as well the warning that game is an Alpha and I shouldn't expect much, game loads into the main menu. Now clicking play or change server returns no servers, trying to cancel or switch the tab in the server browser hangs the game, and when I say hangs I mean hangs, the game becomes completely unresponsive, it cannot be even turned off by any means I tried (ending process in tast manager doesn't help, neither does doing the same via the command prompt and few other programs supposedly meant to kill such problematic programs fail as well, only way to fix that is to restart the entire computer). Edit: Apparently it was an issue with the firewall, ESET Smart Security for some reason conflicts with the game, however the game still needs a better error handler for when it cannot connect to a server. No program should ever under any circumstance hang so hard you need to reset the computer.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
nexdemise replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
I have a question and I didn't want to make a new thread. Anyways, can one get banned by battleye for glitching or using (not making) hacked items. Let's say you glitch into an inaccessible part of a building, or you pick up an M4 with 56 thousand rounds from a hacker. Can either of those events result in a ban? -
Playing 1PP has made me a far better player
nexdemise replied to nexventor's topic in General Discussion
I generally play hardcore (first person only). It actually makes it easier to approach a position since someone needs to poke their head out to see you. I had people fail to ambush me on the NEAF because I saw one of them through the window of the Air Control Tower. They heard us talking with a freshspawn and tried to investigate. We were checking out the airfield and we ran into the bambi. So we do the general stuff of holding him up. I am a very paranoid person, so I look around all the time, look into the ACT's window). I saw the guy sitting on top of the metal stairs. We tell the bambi to get the f out. Second guy tried to ambush us on the bottom floor (I guess they thought we'd cuff the bambi and then they'd attack, we were actually going to cuff him until I saw the guy in the window). Killed the second guy on the bottom floor, he was peeking out the window. (At this point we didn't know there was a second). I go up the stairs - see first guy. Exchange fire. He's been hit (I think), I'm fine. I retreat, he's alive but he'll likely kill me if I poke my head out again. 2 minutes pass, ladder is loud and rather risky, especially since there might be snipers. I get an idea. I circle around the ACT to the window I saw him through. Move around a little and I see his helmet (he's sitting right atop of the stairs). Open fire. Guy's dead. Go back around and up the stairs. Check his pulse - yep, dead. Loot the guys, loot the area, run like the wind. Overall outcome: Belligerents: Me (M4 w/ acog) My friend (Mosin w/ LRS) First guy (KIA) (M4 w/ red dot) Second guy (KIA) (SKS w/ PU) Bambi (Ran off) (Unarmed) -
If you want that then let me point you in this direction. Still, I definitely wouldn't mind seeing random things become weapons, like a rock, or a plank, or a broken leg of a chair, or even the entire chair (you can only keep it in hands and you move slow with it), or a frying pan. Pretty much after running through a town you should be able to find at least one sharp or heavy blunt thing to use as a weapon.

Can openers generally spawn in police stations, miliary places, and houses. Knives rarely spawn in houses. Bayonets tend to spawn in bars. Fire axes and screwdrivers spawn in fire stations. The following instruments can open cans: Can opener Screwdriver (minor spillage) Knives (kitchen, combat, bayonets, machetes) (minor spillage) Hacksaw (medium spillage) Axes (splitting and fire) (heavy spillage) Pretty much every bladed instrument in the game. Ruined instruments can be used to open cans. Aside from rotten fruit you have the following: Canned food (tuna, beans, bacon, peaches, spaghetti, sardines) (canned tuna be be opened without need for a can opener) Fresh Fruit (Apple, Orange, Banana, Kiwi) Fresh Vegetables (Tomato, Bell Pepper, Potato, Zucchini) Dry food (powdered milk, cereal, rice) In order to fill your water bottle you need to move your mouse wheel to scroll along the list of actions.

They or someone else either shot you or handcuffed you and jacked your shit. There's really no other explanation.
-
I'm against, but if they do add it I want two things: 1) Ability to pick up turds and throw them. 2) Combine it with a stick to make a weapon. It won't do much damage but whatever clothing it hits will be instantly ruined.
-
I love how that's generally regarded as an exploit in the game.
-
If you happen to get logged in an airfield or other high traffic area it might be safer to just go to a low population server, move to a safer area (ex. a forest) and relog there. I killed a guy in NEAF a few days ago that spawned in on me in one of those little sheds.

It's best to run away rather than try to push back against an assailant you can't see. Once you're out of the bullet's path you can rethink your options - you can try to move around and try to pin down his location, or you can just get out of there completely and help your friends gear up later. I recommend never swapping items out in the open. Bunch of players standing around not moving is a sniper's heaven. A while ago my group and I (3 players) ran into another 3 player group on the forest past sniper hill. Long story short: They had two casualties, we had 0. The third managed to escape with at least 1 gunshot from a mosin. When we were done and ready to leave one of my friends got shot (and knocked out) by that third guy when he tried to loot a body of one of the guys we killed. The 3rd then went up the hill to drop on us, he fired on my other friend and knocked him out. I took aim at him, he took aim at me. I fired, he dropped, I fired again to make sure he was dead. I then patched my guys up (bandage on the second, bandage, saline, and an epipen on the first who was unconscious for a good minute, constantly bleeding), we hid their bodies, and ran away. Now think about this: If he wouldn't run away he'd definitely die in the commotion. He took his time to figure out where exactly we were (we dropped on them from about 10ft away, full camo gear works wonders) used the element of surprise to attack us when we were sure of victory, and he came this close to killing us all. Also: Remember that not every standoff can be won. If you're alone, and there's 5 of them then you will most likely die.

I never understood the purpose of the ACOG: M4's accuracy isn't too great M4 has really hard recoil unless you lay down and drop the bipod (and even then a moving target past 100m is extremely hard to hit) The ACOG can zero up to 700m. You can't see anyone past about 400-450 without binoculars or LRS, and even at that (400-450) range people look like ants.

Job well done Bohemia, job well fucking done. -slow clap- You managed to break the only visual guide for sniping in the game.

I hope the "Muh ghosters" crowd eats you alive.

The old timer was better: You get kicked = 0 s wait. You spend a lot of time on a server and later go to a different one = ~30s. You outright server hop = 300s. Currently its: You get kicked = 300s wait. You spend a lot of time on a server and later to go to a different one = 330 - 500s. You outright server hop = 500 - 600s. The first two are bullshit: You are being punished for something outside of your control (server restart) and for actually sticking to a server for a while. There are cases where you need to reconnect elsewhere (ex. server is having a lot of lag issues, not ping, not even desync, it just feels like the server is being slow and overloaded). Bottom line: this shit has to go. Just watch - next update they'll pull a shit like WarZ did where you need to wait a few hours to play. About people complaining about ghosters: 1) They removed the spawn sounds. How about you complain about that? I had a guy appear out of thin air in a shed I was sitting in because they no longer make any sound (I riddled his ass with bullets). 2) Under the old system the fastest you could ghost in on someone would be 330 seconds. That's 5 and a half minutes. Not to mention that back then spawning in players used to make the reloading noise and are unresponsive for about the first 5-10 seconds. Is this a good fix for ghosters? (Remove logging sounds and increasing wait timers on everyone) Fuck no.

Small, meaningless, yet rare items

I found a Pristine Press Vest last night and Pristine Rider's Jacket this morning. Currently wearing both. -
Realised I miss one of the mosted hated "feature"

I feel like side chat should be available only if you have a walkie talkie which is on and lets say you get ~50 sent messages per battery. Otherwise you're restricted to direct chat only (or if you don't want to deal with side chat just turn it off / throw it away). While listening only battery would still drain, slowly however. Such a limit would prevent spamming and messages would only be sent if necessary (unless someone stockpiled on batteries). So the side chat would be actually useful - not a spamfest. -
I agree, these increase in time is fucking dumb. Next update they'll pull shit like WarZ did where you need to wait a few hours before you can respawn... What's even more fucking dumb is the 400 second timer after you get kicked from a server which is restarting.

This is pretty much how DayZ is. You cannot got into a firefight if you're alone, I mean you can, but you will most likely die as you have already observed. A good team can get out of a quite a pickle, even if there's two of you. Last night I got into a firefight with another group with only my friend. He survived because I gave him medical help (got shot and knocked out, I bandaged him, gave him adrenaline and saline). If I went in solo I'd die as would he. In regards to VOIP software - it is always used in group play, regardless of the game. You really can't do anything about it. Find a group or be a ghost avoiding populated areas. You really can't go into open war if you're alone and expect to live. I made that mistake before multiple times.

Only use I can see for slaves would be to use them for blood. Those with O- blood type would be the most valuable ones.

I consider the following to be fully geared: Head: Ballistic helmet or Camo Booney hat Vest: UK Assault vest any camo Shirt: TTSKO Jacket Pants: TTSKO Pants Boots: Military boots / Jungle Boots / Combat boots Gloves: Any working gloves Glasses: Designer glasses or Aviators Mask: None (collides with helmet or hat) Weapon: Mosin / SKS / M4 with all attachments (except bayonets since they're useless...) Side weapon: Magnum or M1911 or FNX 45 Backpack: Hunting Backpack Ample of ammo, food, water, medical supplies (medical supplies including at least 1 morphine, some bandages, epi-pen and a saline bag). Basic tools like compass, can opener. I'm not crazy over gear though. If need be I'll use whatever I get my hand on. Currently since I died last night I'm running around in a hoodie, cargo pants, and a hard hat, using an SKS and Magnum I looted from guys who tried to kill me.

I was at the NE airfield. Crouched next to the bunk bed to check out the pants that were on it and out of nowhere "you are dead". Took no damage, no gunshot. Only people on the server were two of my friends. I just randomly die and my body vanished. Also, the registration for bug reports (which for reasons wants a separate account) doesn't work.
