Then ghosting would come back. Timer was put in first and foremost to combat combat logging. Hoppers were secondary.

You rent a server NOW to help the development, to help the community, to make your own group grow. Your server is PUBLIC until the game goes LIVE. That is the truth, no matter how hard it is to accept it after you invested the money. There are no arguments against it. Once it goes LIVE, go private. Wait. Soon.

Duping, Server Hopping, and Exploiting- The Mild Cases and the Bad Cases
Hethwill_Khan replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Find the bug, replicate it for effect and specifics for the report, add it to bug tracker. The User Agreement for the Alpha specifically notes that you cannot exploit, and no matter what amount of money you paid for a product, the ban should be permanent during alpha, then lifted upon release. -
Anyone else experience this, or have I lost my marbles?

I got it for sims obviously, but then Arma is a sim... :) -

EDITED: Are you happy with CURRENT zombie implementation?
Hethwill_Khan replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
Zombies are not a danger, and even with the silly respawns. Compared to another arma3 product with inhuman creatures, even with them being somewhat silly, the horde effect makes them really dangerous at times in that product. Suffice to say that a KoS camper yesterday got swarmed by well over hundred in a place where he could not escape. Another situation was our group being on a tight spot and each on of us tallied zombies in excess of 30+ And then infected wounds came... we had to scavenge for anti virals, anti biotics, and what not... Now that's danger... to a point. First and foremost the zombies must hit hard and be somewhat randomly resilient. Right now even punches and sidestep can deliver the infected back to the nether. Laughable. Do zombies interrupt PvP, sure, but are they a danger ? No. They don't pose a threat so dangerous that it provokes the players to fight for their lives...together. Life has no value at all. Quote - "Zombies can only be considered successfully implemented when, in a situation where 2 players meet, they have to decide if they wanna survive together against the horde, or die on their own against the horde." -

Quite cool guys and great to see the other face. Locking down Elektro as bandit territory - and exacting toll of entrance - was interesting as well. And no it didn't go according to plan in the most part, but not sorry about all the lifes lost that day including ours :D Great gameplay guys, keep it rolling. -
Can you tell the direction which fire is coming from?
Hethwill_Khan replied to Sebidee's topic in General Discussion
The difference in sound "efficiency" when compared to Arma3 is appaling. We can pin point enemy fire and location by ear with the A3 soundscape. In SA is okay, acceptable, but just that. Can be improved to 2014 standards. Even with good headset, and mine is, there are some situation where the gun sounds are just... everywhere and not...from there. -
Urban Camo Pattern for Military Clothes
Hethwill_Khan replied to CGNoodlePot (DayZ)'s topic in Suggestions
The grey work pants or winter hunter with the grey hoodie is pretty neat for that purpose already, as attested in game. Not against new clothing although we can already do it with the stuff we have. -
Maybe the OP is suggesting Server locked items, so that you cannot transfer them with your character and use the server as a hop ? If so we will have to wait until release, but wouldn't be that bad an idea for a more Hardcore approach in the future.

building effective camo without stepping one foot into a base

The counter shading is cool. The Spring pants and the new wool green coat also add a very effective wood counter shade. -
KoS in relation to the new spawn mechanism of Zombies: Good or Bad?
Hethwill_Khan replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
No way. They are sheep still. They can start to be a menace when and if: - humans move at normal speed - read Arma2/Arma3 speeds - zombies move faster - zombies hit harder - knock down - roaming hordes ( avalanche effect result of new respawn code if devs want to work with it ) Zombies can only be regarded as a menace when they are dangerous enough to ensure some sort of loose cooperation between players so they ensure both survive or none does, if they choose to fight each other. -

Standalone Discussion/Critique from an Old DayZ Fan.
Hethwill_Khan replied to TOPMO3's topic in General Discussion
Yes. Pretty much the sum of common thoughts. Had to ... migrate to other shores for the time being waiting for a ... more spiced up SA. Still promising but deserving a break. -
I am completely against any sort of messaging. Dev money and time would be better used to do a proper sound system, a proper visual system, etc Hearing heartbeat, tunnel vision, blur effects ( that cannot be fixed ! ). Well, yeah, we have enough game engine in 2014 to do that, This is not 2009 anymore. Summing it up to the OP... If you don't know how you died, pay attention next time. Sometimes we are shot without even hearing the shot. Other we just bleed to death because we just can't bandage safely in time. Other we glitch a ladder or a building. How does a message about cause of death improve the experience ? Plus you already have all messages about your condition including bleeding and the shock effect. How does a message about cause of death improve the experience ?

Establishment of Background Lore for DayZ - Essential
Hethwill_Khan replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
The background given in Arma is only a setting and adds credibility to many locations, towns, landmarks and so on, including many artifacts found. We may or not link the actual state of affairs in the land formerly known as Chernarus, because in "reality" Chernarus is no more. The whole organized country collapsed fast after the Infection spread fast. Cholera is announced in all health facilities, this has no link to the infection per se, but to the fratricide war in the country. Waterways and water supply suffer. The West overrun by Red Star guerrillas. You can imagine Elektro Dam being put out of commission shortly before the outbreak. Most wealth personnel flees to NE airfield while dispossessed horde into NWAF. UN is caught between a rock and a hard place. They got into a armed conflict, now they must not lose face dealing with a humanitarian problem... The Infection, as I see it is a variant of rabid virus, engineered to help soldier in battle to survive longer period of times so medical aid and battlefield surgeons can arrive... ... sure. But secondary effects were being tested when a shipment was lost during a storm along the rocky crags on the NE coast. Anyone from Red Star or Defense Forces or an unseen interested might have tested the stuff and saw the "in your face results" - a combatant becoming more resilient. First things first, let's make this stuff available to many. This serves just as an example that anything is possible and does not invalidate any lore written by BI or the community, but the place where the action takes place must have a past, to add recognition, and past events to unveil the present. It doesn't need a very special sci-fi over the top conspiracy. What it needs is content that gives it life. For that to happen it would be better to design the spine, main events, and each one of us adds content in various forms, such as citizen diaries, soldier's letters, stuff that give humanity to a fantasy world. Salute. -
Establishment of Background Lore for DayZ - Essential
Hethwill_Khan replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
From the Arma2 history you have the basics: Now, how did the infection came to be ? Cholera warning in all sanitary units - medical centers, is a clue. They are written in russian, polish and czech. -
This was in place before Svetloyarsk was added to the map, 2 weeks before they announced it to be in. Actually there is another, about the same size to the East. There will be 2 big cities along the northern trail. The marked roads and spaces are there just waiting for building other than barns and cow pens. Actually was amazed one the barns spawned Mosin, clothes and a backpack.

The reason behind the lag in ArmA2/DayZ
Hethwill_Khan replied to Twixxer's topic in General Discussion
Net lag is caused by the system itself balancing ALL connection agents. low FPS is caused by visuals. Lag is not low FPS. -
When to saw off the shotgun and when not to?
Hethwill_Khan replied to Iezza's topic in General Discussion
Shotguns add dignity, to what would otherwise be only an ugly brawl. Saw it off by all means. It is a great companion when going through dangerous towns with tight corners... hell, all corners are tight in towns... less than 20 meters, perfect for a shotty. Double trigger has a hell of a spray and the blast sound evokes a good cannonade. -

Not the first game I go into alpha.. one of the first games I pay ( gladly i did ) to be on alpha. Now, I understand that the piss off statement by the Dev is par with the cooking mechanics and the boiling pot, and he has good reason to say all he did write, but.. ... as an example... Mosin had problem with paint. Was fixed. Eventually I hoped the CODE to be fixed and the bug to be solved. Now... same happens with SKS. Sorry to say, but there is something wrong with the Dev process if they are doing core code changes that affect such basics on a individual asset basis. If it was a full simulation of atmospheric conditions that wound affect all assets, i would understand, but it is not. So get back to work and review your workflow. The details show the big picture. Let's wait and see. -
Bringing some sort of civilized warfare to Chernarus, hmmm ok. Many systems have been discussed, this one relies on players own conscience AND that they read the forums. Now reading Origins... everything you do... you will become.... forever....no way back ( until the database is reset ). Not saying we need a system like that, just pointing out one good mechanic to deal with player activities towards their avatar personality and make it happen in game.

Lore suggestion: parasite instead of virus
Hethwill_Khan replied to Viner Cent's topic in Suggestions
First look the "lore" of Arma2. Chernarus Defense Forces vs Red Star guerrillas; add UN forces into the mix, to keep peace ( not to control the outbreak ). Someone, somewhere release the virus.
