Did you just call me racist? Are you flipped out on something? Do you honestly deem me racist because I make observations? What planet are you from? I said nothing that elevated Japanese people over US people, and the only claim I made was that I felt pity for US citizens for the never ending fearmongering they are subject to via mass media. I feel pity for americans and applayde the japanese, how is that racist, by any stretch of the immagination? -

I fail to see whaer I backpedal, again, as you do not specify it. A post containing many quotes of me does not your case make. Point them out, I dare you. Double even. Do not just post, write your comments in between the lines and point them out, pretty please :) And to comment on my apparent failure... "It's hilarious how you write your vision as if it's the same as the developers' vision. It's more hilarious how much you URGE for social interaction in this game. Social interactions bring so much fun blah blah blah I need interaction you guys make the majority blah blah blah blah. This isn't a survival co-op. It's a sandbox. It's amazing how you have yet to understand what a sandbox is." You claim I write my vision as if it was the developers vision. Where? I am logically trying to fathom why they do what they do, I am not stating what they do. Show me, and explain it. And why on earth do you assume I urge for social interaction? Are you making that up in your head? All I am saying, and that is a few times already without you even grasping it, is that the developers are adding stuff that cannot be explained in any other way than to encourage interaction between characters. It is not what I want, it is what I read out of the actions of the developers. Again, why would they add all this stuff if they did not intend for some character interaction other than killing? Riddle me that and how that in any way shape or form is me trying to tell you what the developers actually think or what is their actual agenda? I cannot know that, but I can make an educated guess. That is what I do and you twist that around to me claiming to know what's inside thair heads and that I crave interaction. False accusations without a hint of backup mate. Or rather, I think it's something related to self esteem. You are creating, in your own head, statements and traits of me that simply isn't true, you lie, and you cannot handle that I oppose you. A sandbox... But I'm saving the best bit for last; How can YOU state that this game isn't a survival co-op? Back up your own statements please. -

Funny how you claim, falsely, that I have stated how the developers say the game should be played, while you yourself remove any possibility of the developers having a view on the issue at all...on what grounds can you say that exactly? In all my posts regarding the developers I have said what I think they might have in mind for this game based on the future features and the complexity of them, and all the possibilities of interaction they provide. Some of you seem to interpret that as though I claim to know what they think or what they have decided. All I am saying is that if they are of the opinion that the community will (be able to) turn DayZ into a pure PvP game I see no reason for them to do all the other work on the game, that they do. -

That we can agree upon 100%. So, since this is the internet and not IRL, we can logically deduct that the urge to be a douche is simply too much to resist for more people. And that is in no way a better reason to define a game than my arguements. -

You clearly have not seen my post in another thread (about KOS'ing, shocker!) relating to how civil the Japanese were after the tsunami, where they, in an chaotic and totally destroyed environment lined up in queues and waited for their turn to get some basic resources. They did not riot or kill eachother over resources. Real life event, real life reaction and behaviour. Hollywood does not define how humans will react in a disaster. (Maybe hurrcane Katrina in the US is an exception...at least the inhuman aftermath) They say that all threads will eventually lead to a discussion about Hitler and WWII, well...I'll just mention briefly the way the civil population of mainland europe handled the situation; They did not kill eachother off on a massive scale. If you are going to use examples of how humans might behave, please base it on real life events and not (Sci) fiction. (Not even famines in Africa caused by lack of rain cause people to kill eachother on sight, though MONEY does regularly.) -

And the one without any solid arguements supporting his view will always resort to other means of continuing the futile discussion. My repect towards you will never be defined by how you interpret it, welcome it or even deny it. And how you can interpret my arguements as immediately assuming you solely do KOS, when I am talking about what this game hopefully will not turn into, a clone of a bunch of games already available. And I invite you to show me where I have stated that you only KOS. Or, even what part of what I have said can safely be assumed to mean that you have a one track mind. I am talking about the game in general and how people play it, I am not focusing on you alone. -

Good point, and I am wondering what this has to do with "Surviving the zombie apocalypse" :D We might as well just rename the game to DayH Standalone for now, as in Day Humans. -

Would it be possible for you good Sir, to actually ELABORATE on any of your posts? I could of course have answered that quote with "I did not backpedal". It would help much. Quote me, make me see my own mistakes, where they are, and I will respect you. -

Before I continue, please answer me this; How do you know I am passionate about KOS/PvP and not just trolling you? You do not, so stop saying I am passionate, because there is no way for you to identify that trait through my writing. Even if you try to sneak one single word into a scentence to describe a personal trait of me, I will detect it. Have I made any personal trait comments towards you? (You are leaving a pattern here...) And, I have never said KOS/PvP should be banished from the game, I am simply trying to make people see that it currently seems to define the game and cause some grief. I am not afraid to once in a while get killed in a hardcore survival game, but when it contains zombies and scarcity of almost any resource (when balanced) it screams so much more than "You had better take the most care with other humans". The game will never appeal much to me if it ends up being an environment where I have to fear other human characters far more than zombies, lack of food or struggling to survive in the wild when wet and out of anything to light a fire with. Because that I can find in any shooter. -

I have never claimed thay have, stop trying to "quote" me on stuff I have never said. They just seem to be wasting time on items and stuff intended for interaction if the community is hellbent on making the game a deathmatch game. But, I'm not worried. Once they have worked out most of the quirks and focus more on balance of resources, because you do realise that they can force any playstyle upon you by rigging the item/weapon spawn mechanics (right?), we will surely see what direction this will take. At any rate, I got this "game" at half price and should be able to identify if this is something I want to continue playing or just uninstall by the time it hits beta, and even if I decide to drop it it will have been totally worth it. Taking part in a developement in progress, and seeing first hand how it evolves, is reward enough in itself for the small sum of money I payed initially. It seems you might have misunderstood the concept of sandbox, it doesn't remove the possibility that the developer has some sort of intention of how the game should be, it's just that they do not force you to follow any kind of story, you do not need to level up or unlock stuff after reaching a certain point and they definitely do not force you in any direction in the gameworld. Sandbox is much more related to freedom of movement and the lack of a linear story to follow than it is related to what type of personality you decide your character will have. -

Not at all, I argue that in a sandbox game, that has elements gearing it towards character interaction, and seemingly endless possibilities, chosing ONE SINGLE POSSIBILITY and sticking to it is not "the correct way" to play this game. Sandbox = free character action and movement, AKA no storyline you must follow, it is not the same as having a multitude of possibilities and going with the one that works against what seemingly is the idea of the creators. I mean, if deathmatch/KOS was a game they were trying to make they probably would have told us so, like, we intend to make a new game and hopefully you all will adhere to the notion that all we want you to do is kill eachother on sight. That is the reason we will not focus on items in any particular way. Is that the idea you get when you read patch notes and lists of future features? Hopefully one day guns will be super-rare, and bullets even more so, so that you will have to make a judgement before approaching anyone or anywere as ou will not possess enough bullets to shoot your way out of the situation. Something like the resource scarcity in "I am alive" on xbox arcade. Notice the word "hopefully" at the start of that scentence, it is what I hope for, not what I want to force down on people. -

Holier than thou... FYI I am an atheist and as such dismiss any reference to a deity. What playstyle did I describe? None, I only argued against one specific playstyle, and provided reasons as to why I think of it as "wrong", related to how the game is progressing and the planning of future features. That is a good question, I guess it depends on the thought process of the developers. At any rate, letting developers use time and effort to create an intricate system of items, including modification of items, wear and tear of items, combining items and probably much more to come, and setting it up as such that some items and the way ther are supposed to be used will require more than one character (incentive of character interaction) is totally moot and a waste of time, money and energy if the community is going to shift the game over to a deathmatch-like killzone without interaction of any kind. Those kind of games are already a dime a dozen, and forgive me if I am totally ignorant on this, but I do get the feeliong the developers have higher hopes than that for this game. -

You might think that it is ridiculous that we frown a little at people that, in a game where items in general far outweigh number of guns and weapons, decide to do the only thing that will guarantee NIL interaction, namely killing on sight. But we do not. The thought of dismissing an ever growing possibility for interaction between characters, on the grounds of protecting oneself, is paranoia and delusion at best. It is not the correct playstyle you cliaim it is. It is counter productived and narrow minded, making for a narrow game. COD or whatever floats your boat, we do not need you to make this game. You make a dozen already, defining them more like it. Gun, bullet and a pull of the trigger over "endless" possibilities. Priceless. -

And they have a landslide of people with "another FPS for us to troll people in!" mentality that they need to wade through before they can even begin the climb :/ If I were to guess; KOS'ers are in minority, but as with much else IRL, they set the agenda and tone for the game months before it is even in beta. Software hijack ftw :D

What happened last time I took a life in DayZ? That moment has yet to arrive... But I've had people's bean in my Mosin Crosshairs a few times. I've taken shots into the ground close to people who were unaware of me, just to see them run off into the woods for cover. A pair of fully geared camo dudes just NE of the NEAF was the last "victims", a month or so ago, and it didn't leave me wanting for more to be honest. I'd have to say that my last "adventure", taking a complete lap around the entire map at the outer edges and then walking from the SW corner to the SE corner in camo and with a nice collection of weapons without a single encounter was thrilling. I didn't have much confidence my character would survive the last leg, hehe.

This is like an ECG test, it shows up fine at the doctor's office and then you die of a heartattack the minute you step out the door :D It's good advice, just remember that the longer you spend scouting the closer any approaching person will be by the time you decide to exit cover. Not sure if it has been suggested, didn't read the entire thread, but not having the volume too low is a potential life saver.

Every man for himself/gun laws/riots after katrina... It's the resident mentality and the behaviour it creates. Which is probably why there were riots in the US but not in Japan. Which is probably also why there are different ideas of what to fear and what not to fear in a videogame... This isn't about the politics themselves, but what different types of politics does to the mentality of the people living within a country. It's just an observation. Yes, but their government is not, sadly. It is not the average American's fault that he goes around in fear of armed attacks or whatnot, it is the media there feeding it to them 24/7. Phearmongering ftw. I pity many us citizens, I really do. (And I'm borderline commie...) But anyways...I'll rest here. -

In the "youngest" nation in the world, USA, where the mantra is "Every man for himself" and no social network. Go figure. Gun laws anyone? -

Bandits, as in people robbing/force feeding/kidnapping you etc. = Spice of life KOS'er that shoots to kill without any other incentive (justified by boredom) = Troll (Some people even admit to keep playing the game AFTER they have reached boredom...dafuq?) Hats off to those taking the easy path. Bandits, act the part. Serial killer, go find something that doesn't bore you. (Disclaimer, this sentence is not me trying to force any playstyle onto others, I am commenting on the ill logic) And for the people claiming that humans become dangerous when resources are scarce; did you see the japanese waiting in extremely long lines, patiently, without making a riot, after the tsunami? It was fine example of people with NOTHING acting civil... -
Is there anything being planned that incentivizes not shooting on sight?
or'dinii replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Does surviving zombies on broken gear, lousy food and contaminated water sound like the environment where you need to rescue someone through a hail of bullets? Who, if so, would be the shooters? The other survivors doing the only logical thing they can think of, getting rid of the only people with which you share an enemy? Or maybe you would need rescuing from a pack of AK-47 equipped zombies with a trained eye... I have a hard time seeing why, in a zombie situation, I should be more concerned with being killed by a fellow human than being eaten by a turned one. 2 cents. -

I think the case is more like the intention for DayZ to be a survival game, while the only thing difficult to survive is other players. There are no real threat in-game besides humans controlling another player character... Let's rename the game to ManZ for the time being ;) -
