This game was sold as a Zombie survival simulator. The current mechanics make it more PVP than it is going to be, as there really isnt any base building or other group oriented stuff to do. Im willing to bet that there are many players like me who bought the game early as a supporter and play off and on to check the progress. There are probably many more who are waiting for the full release before they buy it. Both of these groups of players want to play a survival game with pvp a secondary portion of that survival not the main focus. If the game ends up being only - Get gear, go to citiy, Kill players - than that would be a waste of basically 98% of the map. There are many games that fill that market and do it in much smaller environments and have quick respawns. PVPers like to think they are always the majority, but the stats to any game that has both options will always favour PVE. You can call them carebears or berry pickers all you want but most people want to do something other than kill other people in their spare time.

Thanks for all the answers. I played a bit last night and it is nice that the zombies have better collision detection with objects. Still think I wont be playing a lot until the game is closer to completion as it doesnt really feel like a zombie apocalypse survival game yet.

I came back to the game to see how things have come along. How are the zombies?? Ill be playing more to check the game out but just wanted to know what people have to say about zombies in DAYZ currently.

Yes some of the movement could be improved but I do disagree with the premise that we should be able to circle strafe while wielding a fire axe or any other heavy weapon. That is completely unrealistic and not natural in anyway shape or form. The inertia just does not allow you to swing a heavy object and run in perfect circles. Circle strafing is a twitch shooter thing and not something someone does in real life. -

So I come back to the game after a few months and I am still shocked :o there is no Autorun Key in the controls. I will continue to use my keyboard macro but we really should not have to use a work around for a basic feature. -
I would like to suggest more focus on features players actually notice

At this point in the alpha the under the hood stuff is way more important than tents or cars or any other bigger gameplay addition. There needs to be a solid base to work from. I think many people that want all these features NOW! NOW! NOW! really should have waited till at least the beta before playing. It could take 6 months or much longer before you see these major additions. -
States should display icons, not text/annoying sounds

I like the icons. They are simple and unobtrusive. To the people that say we shouldnt have icons, or even the text telling us what is wrong because of "realism", I would like to point out that I would know if I was thirsty, hungry, or bleeding in real life. I could feel these things. The point of the icons is not hand holding, they are there to represent what I would know about myself in real life. We cant feel our character so the game has to let us know some way the status of our avatar. I would much prefer visual cues over audio because in real life my stomach wouldnt be constantly grumbling. The repeated audio cues would get annoying very quickly, where simple gui icons are much less intrusive. I would also have an option to disable them if you so inclined. -
I wouldnt mind permanent health damage done a little simpler. Like you actually lose a bit of you max health from each wound and broken bone. The more injuries you have got over the course of your life the less total health you have. We need skills or some form of progression for you to care. If your character had been alive for long time and had a bunch of high level skills you would be less inclined to suicide and would take less risks.

Many people have already stated before and after your post that auto-run is nothing like a teleporting/fast travel system. It cannot get you to your destination automatically. You still have to guide your character and watch for danger. And there is no reasonable person who would consider an auto-run key 'botting'. I keep seeing the word 'abuse" as well in relation to the autorun key. How can you 'abuse' the autorun key?? People are using wording that does not make sense in the context of an autorun key. It cannot be abused, there is no possible way for someone to abuse the autorun key. It does not make people go faster, or become invincible, or automatically get them to their destination. Getting a sandwich or taking a piss is not abuse. Those actions dont give anyone a gameplay advantage, and actually have a large disadvantage in that you could walk off a cliff, into zombies, or players who want to kill you. I myself never leave my character unattended while using my auto run macro. If people want to go afk while auto running, let them. Easier targets. Again the only thing the autorun key is for, is the comfort of the player fingers. Holding down the W for long durations can cause discomfort. I will continue to use my macro if they dont add an autorun key but would prefer a proper more elegant in game method. I will also continue to respond to the silly arguments against an autorun key. There is absolutely no reason to not have the command in game. -
Can you treat the axes with a little more respect?

The whole melee weapons system needs an overhaul. Fire Axes are not combat weapons, they are designed for chopping away at structures. You pull back and chop, then you reset. Running and swinging with an Fire Axe desont work in real life, the weapon is completely unbalanced for that kind of action. Obviosuly if it hits a person it would do serious damage but you couldnt re-swing as fast as a machete or baseball bat. I would much rather use a baseball bat in real life than a Fire Axe becasue you can swing a baseball bat much more effectively and efficiently while moving. -

It has already stated why there should be an autorun key, maybe you should not have skimmed the thread. :rolleyes: But to humour you, the main reason is Ergonomics. It is better for the player to toggle a heavily used key than to have to hold said key down for extended periods of time causing discomfort. It has nothing to do with being lazy. Holding W does not add any gameplay. Having an autorun key does not make the map smaller or allow fast travel. It is simply there for the comfort of the player. Now please explain to me why such a nice quality of life feature should not be implemented?? -

Even if you consider this a "lose your inventory game" having persistent storage defeats that purpose as you can just get all your loot back. What is the point of death at that stage? I am against permanent loot storage and I hope that at least Hardcore servers do not have that feature. They can be on regular servers. -

Nice attempt at saving face, but your post was not an essay to skim. It was 21 words double spaced over 5 lines. It implied that the previous 9 pages were not needed and people only had to do what you stated to autorun. The whole point of the thread is that those are not solutions and an in game command should be added. Now if you have something to add for why there should not be an autorun key please inform us. -
All the melee weapens need a rebalance. In real life there is no way I would take a fire axe over a machete or even a baseball bat. Reason being I could swing the machete and baseball bat much more effectively. Fire Axes are just not designed for combat. Theye should all have advatages and disadvanges and be more sidegrades then straight upgrades. Though I would still make machetes the best melee weapon but really rare.

Why would any of those make auto run not work? Why does it matter to you if people get sniped, run into traps, trip, or damage their feet?? Why does it matter to you if people get fatigued? I will get fatigued if I hold down the key or use auto-run, it makes no difference. Anyone who would complain about getting fatigued or dying from auto-run is a moron, so lets not use their potential complaints as an argument against auto-run, ok?? How about we dont call it it Auto-run because people seem to be latching onto the RUN part of it. In all games that have and Auto-Run are actually just Auto Move Forward button. So I would be fine with auto walking, hell I even do auto walking currently with my macro by using the in game toggle for run/walk. When I use my auto-move forward button I still pay attention to my surroundings and so do all the other smart players. I drive alot for a living and use cruise control often but I still have to pay attention to the road and other drivers or I could die. It is the same thing with auto-move forward. So far no one has come up with an intelligent argument against auto-run. I really do want to understand why people are so negative towards a simple key command?
