Samurai sword at the end of the bed. My house mates a survivalist so i'd probably just kill him and take his kit/bag.

Hi Guys, I've not been on the forums for a long time infact i'd had a break from DayZ for 3-4 months. Now i'm back playing again thought i'd drop by and say hi! So i've put in about 16hours since my return. One thing i will say is that I'm surprised with how little progress has been made! Why hasn't it been optimized/Why isn't a new game engine being used? I've been following/playing Rust as well and that game has made leaps and bounds in the same time it's taken DayZ to implement a vechicle with poor physics, Add a few features, change basic mechanics and add a few new map locations. Are the developers restricted by the legacy game engine it's using???? I'm not saying you should go buy Rust because you shouldn't. Both games are completely differen't and DayZ will always hold a place in my Steam for being the brutal simulation that it is. I'm just wondering if anyone can answer why there appears to be a lack of development/It's hard to develop? On a seperate note: I'm creating a seperate thread on a benchmark i'm doing today which i'll link shortly! For lols i'm testing DayZ:Standalone on my work PC: Xeon E3 @3.5ghz Quad Core Win7 Pro 64Bit 16GB DDR4@2133Mhz 1TB HDD NVidia Quadro K2200 2GB

I did indeed and it's not like i'm not aware it's Alpha! It's just hard to believe at this rate that the game will be ready by 2016 as claimed. I'd probably agree that i've got my moneys worth in playtime but mainly because it takes 2 hours to run to meet a friend on the other side of the map lol.. That's not a bad thing though because it's the way the game needs to be but multiple bicycles would be a lot more helpful than a rare spawning truck. The game has a lot of potential and the future will only tell! First thing is to start fresh and stop using the restricted, clunky, unrefined engine it currently has.

That sounds like progress to me! I'll have a read, Thanks for the link :)

Alright Chaps, I'm back after a holiday due to excessive flaming  While I've been gone we've had one amazing announcement. DayZ:SA will be moving to a new engine. I actually didn't think this was going to happen or would've been viable to do. Since Day 1 of the Alpha myself and a lot of other forum members have been complaining that the flaws of DayZ:SA lay within the legacy engine it uses. The clunkyness, a lot of the glitches and some of the graphical limitations etc.. The news of a new exciting engine is more than welcomed and gives me a lot to look forward to! I'm excited to hear what will be up-coming in more detail and look forward to actively help development by bug reporting, stress testing, actively making suggestions and what i can to help :) This is what the game needs to try and keep up with other releases/upcoming titles. The other titles don't have the community we do so lets continue to make this a success!

Ah right i see. It'll be interesting to see how far they can push the engine! There is only so much that you can do with a legacy engine though but hey i still play GMOD and that's running on the source engine which must be getting on 10+ years old. It's been a while since I've played so i need to look at the previous update blogs let alone the forthcoming one! :)

I never heard any announcements prior to this besides people like myself complaining that the game needs a new engine. I'm not saying you're wrong i'd just be interested to know when/where they announced it? You're right saying a statement like: Rocket: It is a complete rip out of everything, but we’re definitely leveraging existing tech. So if you look at Bohemia as a studio they actually acquired a great number of other studios, so really were kind of looking around and taking up tech that is available there and mixing it into the engine, rewriting new stuff from scratch that we want to do as well. That's essentially making false promises when the question was: Q: With the new engine is it based on your current tech or is it a complete rip out of everything and rewriting it? Oh well at least we have DayZ:SA which is an awesome game to play until the inevitable happens and a newer, better game of this genre comes along running on a new coded engine that VR/Infusion can't keep up with.

Cheers man! Indeed it's the sort of bigotry that comes from an undeveloped brain of a 10 year old or a Daily Mail reader.. Who are both just as bad as each other really. It may not be a new entire engine but i am also indeed looking forward to progression and change! Who doesn't like change besides bigots!?
-
You should have made the announcement not Rocket!
-
Before you get emotionally involved i was joking about the missing me part. And it's okay no one knows who you are either!
-
All in due course young padawan.
-
RUF make/tune quality engines though! RV is more like a Peugeot haha..
-
Nice to meet you too.
-
Still misleading though.. Especially with that Q&A. I think someone needs to re-think their answers before making false promises. An answer like "Q: With the new engine is it based on your current tech or is it a complete rip out of everything and rewriting it? Rocket: It is a complete rip out of everything, That'd be like me saying here i bought you an Aston Martin but actually bought you a Hyundai. Only time will tell! I'm sure this game will progress with RV but i'm sure others will progress faster.
-
Is that the case because they give the impression that they're moving to a brand new engine. Q: With the new engine is it based on your current tech or is it a complete rip out of everything and rewriting it? Rocket: It is a complete rip out of everything, but we’re definitely leveraging existing tech. So if you look at Bohemia as a studio they actually acquired a great number of other studios, so really were kind of looking around and taking up tech that is available there and mixing it into the engine, rewriting new stuff from scratch that we want to do as well. Either way it's progression but that's sort of deceiving if you ask me.

I've already had a read of that but thanks! Sorry if i upset anyone that wasn't the aim of my flame.

It will never make it. Other releases will come and overtake the development/overshadow DayZ:SA. There are many examples which have come to light and it is only a matter of time. The Arma 3 Engine is flawed outdated and other game engines will make better games of this genre.
