I miss the global text chat channel that was in the MOD
Judopunch replied to bluesydave's topic in General Discussion
I have trouble comprehending most of what you are trying to say in your post but would like to respond to this part and say that the only way you are going to get voice coms out is at a Lan party. People will just use TS on their phone if they had to. -

I like this its fun! -
Even with the new patch, make sure that there is nothing in any vests or clothing when you store it as this is mostly the reason that vests and clothing get deleted in my groups experience. The other is that it shuffles the loot around on restart and if it cant find enough space for an item it deletes it, long or bulky items are particularly problematic.

A challenge to whom call themselves Bandits, or even Heros
Judopunch replied to over9000nukez's topic in General Discussion
I think you should restructure this with the title "Guide to robbing people". When you throw in stuff like 'TRUE BANDIT" your being confrontational, because that imply s that anyone not doing it your way is doing it the wrong way. Any arguing about specific definitions is also a turn off. -
Private Shard Pricing is Outrageous
Judopunch replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I'm confused. Im saying I havent seen the actual cost for BI to run their servers, but I assume its a great deal more expensive then people are tending to think it is. BI is hosting servers, quite a few in fact, that you are free to play on. It is highly unlikely that they are inflating the costs by that much. Sure they probably make a little money on it but think of it this way. If it costs X to run a server, and they want to rent part of their server to feed information to that server, its almost the cost of renting two servers. Your irateness sounds like you dont really know how the real world works. Nothing is free. Not even your Yahoo account, just because you don't see the costs doesn't mean they dont exist. If you dont like the server costs, dont rent them. Play on the official, free, provided, relatively popular servers. -
I like the people who go through five spawn cycles when they could have just run from the first one to wherever they wanted to be. if you figure two minutes a life... You can cover a lot of ground in 10 minutes.
-
No less than 15 minutes, usually not more than an hour. Depends on the terrain, if you stop to eat/loot. Generally about 30 minutes though. Now, if you are in a barren wasteland with no trees or roads anywhere and a rather ugly repeating grassland.... You went afk running. Good luck as that goes on forever.

Why? What can the community about it? How about instead of giving the hackers (if it wasn't just lag) more attention, we diligently report the issue to the developers so they can fix the problem.

Private Shard Pricing is Outrageous

Oh? Please, tell me how much it costs DI to keep their server running. NO, not what you THINK OR WISH it costs, what it actually costs to maintain power and distribute from the central hive. Here is a good starting point, ONE engineer that takes care of it makes at least $80,000 a year. Add in his benefits, make it $150,000 per year, just for one dude, to maintain it full time. They likely have many more people. Edit: Fun fact, at one point or another it was costing Blizzard $137,000 PER DAY to run their servers. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.288735-This-WoW-Infographic-Presents-Quite-a-Few-Really-Big-Numbers -
... Thats called a joke. And if even for a second you thought he was serious....... If you are trolling you get some bonus points for this. Because it makes me so angry that there is the faintest possibility that someone could actually be...

Does anyone dislike the "no military stuff" agrument?

And when this happens then the KOS will tone down as a natural result. When zombies are even more dangerous creating a consequence to shooting that Bambi people will have to think twice about it. When the first version of .49 came out on exp and everyone was starving all the time and all you could do was try to find food I ran into 5 separate players and helped them out. They appreciated it because they were starving and cold. They couldnt attack me because even if they tryed they would have to respawn, and that was more worrying to them then to have the small chance they could get my gun or gear. -
Actually people have a grandiouse idea of what we are actually 'testing'. What we are actually testing is if their new code breaks under load. If the server can maintain FPS in the real world. And a whole slue of other things that you will never see. We arn't 'testing' zombies or pathfinder, so much as allowing the developers to test their programming in a more real-world scenario, something usually reserved for betas. We do provide a lot of player feed back, good or bad, but I cant help but think how tainted it must be because so many of the systems that the game will revolve on; such as zombies survival and loot respawn, are only weak placeholders and serving to increase the general signal to noise ratio.

I understand your frustration. I expect that people would look in the obvious and appropriate places first before asking a question such as the one proposed by the OP. I mean, its not like this is the MWO forums, things are labeled and filed rather cleanly and consistently. If you want to see where this could be a legitimate question see the type of 'organization' they have going on, its enough to drive you mad! TLDR: I understand people need help sometimes, but why would the first thing you think to do be not look where the information was obvious?

Im not sure but I think a heart shot is a one shot kill to players. Or a head shot is for sure. Why are you so sure he didnt hit you in the head? The audio in this game is anything but consistent.

Not even fictitious people. How about just players? -

So you expect that every time you enter a military or Police area that you are the only one who went there to find weapons? You dont think that they would take most of those guns and amo they stockpiled with them? You do hint on something thats going to make a big factor in the future. When all guns wear out and break down it is going to have an interesting impact on how they are valued. -

You can make arrows right now. You sharpen a stick with something and attach the feathers :) With the ability to get feathers the only hard thing to find now is the ashwood stick because it requires you have an axe. Not because the trees are rare, they are everywhere! Edit: Something being a knife, machete, pipe saw. -

Its not a problem any more in Exp branch. You can scavenge feathers from chicken coups. The real hard part is the ashwood stick now, because you must have an axe. -
Do you guys like the locked doors idea?
Judopunch replied to sketch814's topic in General Discussion
Actually I really like the idea of locked doors. Especially because of how loot re-spawn could work. Those places that are hard to access because they spawned locked could have better stuff inside because people couldn't get to it. Id like to see that implemented randomly on server restart TBH. You neglect to state WHY you think they should not be locked up? Do you lock your doors when you leave your house? I know that a lot of Canadians do not, but in America even in more rural areas we generally lock our doors when we are out. -

If somethings are truly scarce, how can you choose? The comments from a lot of people, not necessarily from you or what you just wrote, seem to emply that there should be weapons everywhere. SO you have some kind of choice between m4 ak, mosin, aug or whatever. Should there be a choice? Or should the answer be 'omg i have a gun AND BULLETS that work for it!' Or should the situation read "I think ill use the AK over the M4 today". There is a difference in how the game is designed. If people want 'choices' in their weapons, perhaps they should try arma. Now if they want depth, variety, and the opportunity to find rare/exotic weapons, with all the problems of maintenance and ammo and equipment that comes with them by all means. -

I dont know, I've shot a lot of trap, and a little archery. Standing on a hill half falling over trying to hit a moving target at even 60 yards in the woods would get dicey, especially when I cant feel my stick ass fingers :) I agreed with almost everything you said, but the weather environment thing I don't think people think about. The few times I went bird hunting I didn't do very well, even tough I consider myself well above average at trap. And I guess the real point of it all is that I think people should be leery about how easy it is to kill other people or how effective weapons are in the game. You can make a million arguments about making weapons more or less accurate, but the important part is what makes more sense for the game? When you get to that question people will give you a couple answers, but the one that I find LEAST valid is 'its this way in real life'. But this game is just and always will be a representation, not recreation, of real life. You move your mouse over a target and click. You are not firing a real gun/bow/whatever. In that way we need to find solutions that are, as the developers have said, 'authentic' but not necessarily carbon copys from reality. Truth be told I like the fact that the bow is only accurate if you wait for the sway to go all the way to the left. Its a very subtle thing to notice and is rewarding for the skill it takes to accomplish under pressure. But yes, right now its a wee bit short on the range to be useful in many situations ;) Edit: Your signature is judging my soul... -

70 yards sounds about right, but a lot of people fail to ask themselves if they have had to walk 10 miles, hungry, cold, scared that either an infected human is going to eat you, or a non infected one wants to shoot you? I have no doubt that they will be changing the bow at some point. I would assume its because they are tieing the arrows into the loot spawn or physics that they haven't yet. Or they are simply working on more important parts of the game. Also, the improvised bow probably shouldn't go much past 70 yards, if at all. But right now its about 40 feet (35 yards?) and thats pushing it lol. -

But from a game-play/design standpoint it doesnt matter how it would play out IRL. From a game-play standpoint having more or less weapons, more or less ammo, and attachments and toys makes a MASSIVE difference in how the game is played.
