now it would be perfect if the fan didn't run 10 billion rpm
Judopunch replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
Get an external cooling pad. Walmart has them for like 10-30$. Make sure your not blocking airflow. Make sure the body of the machine is not making 100% contact with your desk, to allow air to flow. The fans, when they go on, are needed. You dont want to turn them down. Its just disconcerting because you often dont hear them kick on to 100%. Also the aluminum body (assuming you have a pro) Is supposed to help dissipate heat, the downside is the entire computer can get hot. The upside is your case can act like a huge heatsink. Mac's arnt really suited for gaming. I have one that works great for video editing, Photoshop, and maya. But they really are not designed to game. -
Could be, I have noticed this problem the most when aiming down on a hill. Ill do some more testing, upload my videos, and add to your bug report. I am going to recreate the test with a magnum if I can to see if it is sighted properly.

Saw a kid on league of legends who did push-ups for every kill and sit-ups for every death after a game. He did it for about 2 months and lost 15 lbs.

How to zero in with mosin when bolting takes eye off target?
Judopunch replied to Highlander007's topic in General Discussion
I like the suggestion to manually bolt back. But, as im sure people have told you, a spotter helps a LOT, in this game. -
Ya this seems like the angle of attack and the target indicator are out of alignment. Would you think you could have hit him if you were laying down, provided there was not a bug with aim? Was he uphill or downhill from you?

Biggest tips: Water, you need some fast, drink tell your 'hydrated' is bright green. Move off of the coast, there are a lot of people there, move inland to find supplys. Inland is bigger than you think it is, running streight with no breaks it will probably take you over an hour to run from one end of the map to the other, provided you know where you are going. Assume people want to kill you. Even if you want to talk with people, assume they will try to kill you or rob you. This doesnt mean you should kill people, rather you should take proper care of yourself to protect your life. Expect to die. In this game death is uniquely punishing. Its an experiance. Appreciate the fact that you will die, and most likely your heartrate will go though the roof. Move on with another character and try something new. But expect to die. If its not the players, the ladders will get you. And if the ladders dont, you may just get deleted for no reason because its alpha.

I dont usually do anything. As I seldom have a timer. And when I do, I pee.

To all of those who yell ALPHA at any sort of suggestion
Judopunch replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
The problem, is most people arnt offering constructive suggestions or discussions. They are bitching about shit and not facilitating healthy discussion, or even doing basic research before bellyaching. "Hey I noticed this funny thing." Is a good thread, we dont get many, we usually get "F(*& this game, i want my money back, its broken my _randomthinghere_ isnt working". -
I have a video I'm going to upload with this same thing. The problem seems to be two things, there is some kind of invisible geometry with steep hills. My m4 with an ACOG was impacting about 1 foot below the dot and or the sight, in first person mode, shouldered or from the hip, from about 10 feet. This leads me to believe that the bullet is being drawn from your fists and not from the barrel for the m4. This would also reasonably explain why laying down on a hill and fireing a mosin doesnt work most of the time. I changed the zeroing up and down, as predicted it had zero effect. The shot range was to close for zeroing to be a factor. You would unlikely not notice this effect from 100 or more meters, unless you are fireing at someone on a hill, where the angle of attack changes. How far away were you from your target Demoth?

As a note. The sound engineer hasnt started working on the various problems with the systems yet. But thank you for your research it is usefull! Per chance what number of sounds are you allowing in the game settings? What are your windows settings for sound(surround or headset or stereo)?

Sorry you must have missed it. Let me help you. What are your thoughts?

Here you unknowingly hint on what many people are finding lacking at the moment. This is the Alpha. Lets fast-forward and make a couple, not unreasonable assumptions. 1) You can get sick when you drink unfiltered water/stay out side in the rain and in the cold. 2) To get a working car takes a little luck, a lot of parts, and you have to bring them together, costing time. 3) Zombies are more dangerous by a factor of two, food is harder to find, and always by zombies. Using only these examples the loot system, and the health and status systems of the game, completely replace the need for a skill system. The skill system becomes a needlessly complicating factor. The loot suddenly has value because the survival aspects of the game become a serious threat. Imagine not being able to drink out of rivers and lakes, without getting sick. By lowering the number of well's you create a situation: Do i go to the well and drink, possibly get killed by other players/zombies, do I take my chance with dirty water, or do I find what I need to purify my own water? What do I do until I find the way to purify water? I was caught trying hook up this wheel to the car I was building, the bandit shot/stole from me. The last 3 hours I spent working on fixing the car no longer have meaning. Loot progression is easier and more fair than 'character skill' progression. It also doesnt limit your ability to play the game (have all car parts no mechanic skill.)

But you dont mention what kind of value other value there could be. You gave the example of an achievement. Great, than what? It doesnt really reward you for surviving after you get it. You also dont bring up any of my other discussion points from the post you just quoted. Why?
-
That is an unfair and rather xenophobic remark. My priority's are as they would be in real life. Food, Clothing, Shelter, protection. When my basic needs are met I expand to help those around me as best I can. Food is STUFF. Without it I will starve. Clothing is STUFF. Without it I will freeze, and not be able to carry food. Shelter is ... well its a thing but it falls under STUFF, to make sure I dont die in the woods alone at night. Protection can be best achieved by weapons, STUFF. I can defend my food, shelter, and those who can not defend them-self. Its convenient that you seem to bash Americans, but you offer no alternatives to 'stuff'. But Ill do you one better. By gaining the ability to defend myself, and finding extra ... stuff... I can choose to interact with people in such a way to offer real help, or defend myself if needed. Non of which is possible without stuff. Therefore, stuff enables people to have meaningful interaction, because the people who have stuff have an advantage over people who dont. This creates a dynamic situation that is at the core of this game.

Couple thoughts here. Your example of a Steam Achievement, though an example, would just lead people to afk logging out in some random bush somewhere they are very very unlikely to be found, for days, only eating from the massive amount of supply's they have stocked up or have their friends bring them. Secondly, any type of reward would be ripe for trolls to prevent people from achieving it. This could directly increase KOS, as you are now competing MORE to survive for said reward, and some people just want to watch the world burn. And finally, why Is being alive not enough of a reward? If anything this thread seems to indicate that death isnt serious enough. You could reward surviving by having a forced lockout for an hour after you have been killed. That would certainly reward surviving, but would that be better for the game? An alternative question to ask, what could surviving allow you to achieve, that dieing prevents? Are the systems in place that could support this? Could one be created? What is the reward for playing mine-craft? There really isn't one. Yet people still play.
-
I believe you feel most rewarded with the solo experience. But I have a challenge for you. How would you change the system to be more rewarding to friends, but still a rich experience for solo players, accepting the fact that you can not prevent players from communicating with tools outside the game. An example of a unique situation that I have been in was where my girlfriend accidentally got shot in the back of the head by one of our friends during a fight at the airfield. The impact it had on everyone in our group was PROFOUND. She doent have as much time to play the game as the rest of us, so where for me I can take an hour or so and run where I need to be, her total play time per day is less than that. If she had been a random tag-a-long my friend wouldnt have felt bad, she wouldnt have been so surprised, and we all wouldnt have felt the sense of loss we did. I imagine sometime in the future, spawning fresh on the coast with my good buddy. Running from zombies and a bandit. Forced to hide. We slowly start dieing. We find a banana. Only one of us will live long enough to make it to the next town before we starve. Who eats it? What happens to the other guy?

They would probably work it like a helmet or something, though I know 'items' in DayZ are often specific entity's. Or the probably even easier way to do it would be to make it so that the inside doesn't render to for the wearer on the hood. It probably will happen, but in a way to avoid clipping ;) Then just for fun we will need a bright orange one. The amount of cleche 'Killed Kenny" jokes may be to much though.
-
You could be experiencing other issues. Or a different version of the same bug. Also it could be lag. The game suffers stuttering and unresponsive character problems because of the way the server and client interact.
-
Guide isnt to bad, there is one or two with all of the information you have covered. You should really do some basic video editing. You could make your video about half as long and just as informative with a couple cuts and maby some voice over. Edit: But keep in that first 30-40 seconds :) Its honest and amusing.

Ya but if i cant see over the hood, i hope they let me pull it up!

Thats because you have no clue what your talking about. Short version: Corrupted datafile Edit Long version: The problem was with an optimization regarding strings. We have been removing the way ArmA traditionally handles strings to have it deal with a string-bank instead. This means instead of comparing a string (which is really just an array of numbers), it only needs to compare a number (very easy for a computer). There is a string type in engine which should hold a string-bank of unique strings, thus it can compare two strings just by comparing pointers to buffer. That's what the optimization we made relied on. Unfortunately there is a bug with it, and it is possible that two exactly the same strings can exist at the same time and the compare just fails. That's why sometimes are the same textures reloaded all over and over again for some things in the world causing absolute chaos to rain on the GPU. You still dont know what your talking about.
