Maybe in the future after you kill a player, who has taken damage from a zombie that has made them bleed within the last hour, after about 1-3 minutes the body get back up as a supercharged 'fresh' zombie and goes crazy. For a time after death the 'fresh' zombie has increased movement speed and hit-points. -solves the run back to your body problem, your old body is now trying to eat you -adds a new dynamic to the pvevp

Friend joins DayZ he gets 100,000 DeSync
Judopunch replied to exomonkeyman's topic in General Discussion
Yaaa, we killed a guy last night who had some protector-case-ception going on. We emptied them out and all of our inventory lag went away..... He could also have some of that gear from a month or so ago if he hasnt played sence then. If thats the case die and re-spawn and get new gear. Also make sure you dont have some kind of antivirus/download ect going on. I noticed I would lag for a bit when battle eye was updating. -
Fps will not be completely fixed until late beta. For release? yes this game will probably be great for it! Now? No.
-
I believe due to the nature of lag and multiplier gaming that this 'solution' would end up causing different and arguably more frustrating problems. I would encourage them to just work on limiting the camera a bit more as a better solution. And I also think that the game looses much of its intensity when played in 3pp regardless of any adjustment or fix :/ I would also like to thank everyone for having such constructive discussion today. Though we may not all agree I appreciate the actual discussion happening.

Thats the thing. There will always be an 'unfair advantage' in 3pp. Therefore we should advocate only playing 1pp and having stronger support for 1pp systems. I have yet to here any compelling reasons to have 3pp in this game. If you want to know what you look like in 1pp have them create a mirror object for you to collect (could also have fun using this like a para-scope to check corners dont shoot mah hands!).
-
Here is an especially good example. The lag between 'you can see him now' allowed both of the enemy to gain position and fire the first salvo on the guy recording. Here is another Lag can make people come all the way around a wall shoot and move into cover again before you have time to react and return fire. The camo mechanics are also a shit show because sometimes someone will fire from 800 yards away behind a huge bush and get reviled, while a tank hiding behind a tiny bush at 200m will be shooting you all day but not be spotted. They only way the help the 'pops into existence' problem, and i say help because as you can see in the first video its a huge problem, is if you are within about 20m of each-other you are drawn regardless. However this is exactly the problem that will happen in dayZ. Your going to get a guy with 20 ping, jump out around the corner and shoot you and your friend, you will be dead before he becomes visible. Personally I dislike the fact that this game even has an option for 3pp because of how punishing death is. However there is no 'fix' that will remove the numerous advantages that 3pp has over 1pp in the areas of situation awareness and field of vision. Here is probably the best video that I can find on this subject. It shows how awesome 1pp is. Discussion topic: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/165792-dyslecxi-shows-just-how-amazing-1pp-only-is-in-new-video/?hl=stalking Video: Even with the suggested system in place this video would not have been possible if he had been in a 3pp server.

But your camera can, and thats where it gets 'weird' feeling. If your character physically seeing something is important to you, do what I do. Play 1pp. Why is this not acceptable?

Server hopping, "matchmaking" and incentives to gear up on a populated server.
Judopunch replied to hefeweizen's topic in General Discussion
All the time. I often come across as an asshole because of all the drivel i point out on these forums. All I ask is for people to think about and justify their positions instead of complain. I really try (and often fail) to stimulate good discourse :) Im just having a good day today! -
You have a fundamental advantage in third person regardless. If people dont like that they should play 1pp only. Collision boxes can be created that would prevent the looking around a corner unless the player exposes them-self. They use a system like the one proposed in world of tanks. Everyone hates it.

Server hopping, "matchmaking" and incentives to gear up on a populated server.
Judopunch replied to hefeweizen's topic in General Discussion
The incentive to not hop to a low population server to gear up is in your interpretation of game-play. The game creates a unique dichotomy between haves and have nots. If you dont have food you need it, if you have a gun you can take food. If you have neither your situation is yet again different. The people that gear up on empty servers are only interested in the experience of being a 'has'. They skip the 'have not' phase because they want the amount of power that being a 'has' gives them. The unfortunate part is that people are missing out on the vary unique experience that this game offers as you progress against people that are already equipped. The fear of being hunted, the desperation of starving, the kindness of a stranger, and the horror of murder and torture. -
Because people existing and not existing comes with its own problems. Why not simply limit camera movement so that it becomes difficult to see around/over objects. This seems like a much better solution than removing models where people pop into existence and what not.

He may be onto something Jakdin. Its a question you should ask yourself but phrase differently. "What can I do better with video that cant be done with pictures." Just food for thought. I often prefer text/photo based tutorials and guides as I can quickly get to the information I need. Much to my dismay there are so many video guides now :/

Causes the for existence of KOS.......poll
Judopunch replied to Pokerguy12's topic in General Discussion
There is already a change on the wind with the new zombies. When weapon and or ammo spawns become more rare and shooting attracts two dozen zombies having a gun will also be a liability instead of a complete and total net advantage. I can see two groups holed up in buildings, neither wanting to take the first shot for fear of picking up the majority of zombie agro. -
Change your launch options and add -windowed -noborder stability and fps may very depending on your setup.
-
Confirmation bias also kicks in here. "Everybody KOS's" Is not really measurable. If one people in 100 go out of their way to kill people 'just because' the 99 people that did not kill you dont stand out in your mind. But that 1 guy made a negative impact. Because of how our brains work we grossly misrepresent that 1 in 100 because of the negative response it generates. I have NOT shot more people that I have run into than I have shot (unless they were looking to get shot). I have had a Mexican standoff while playing 'supplies for bambi' with 3 of us (they thought there were only 2 hehe) and 4 of them with their new friend. You never remember the times when someone like me didnt shoot you, because I was a ghost. There are more like me. You dont remember all of the noobs who just ran away or past you. You dont remember the people who said 'watch out for that guy on the hill hes an ass'. But you do disproportionately do remember the one asshole who shot you and talked shit.

One Thing Needs To Be Addressed [ROADMAP]
Judopunch replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
The loot economy will enable them to tweek the spawning of loot to reward you with exploring for said loot. Right now loot always spawns on server reset. With loot spawn enabled you can join a server and loot may or may not have spawned in that location for hours. Also there is no real problem because you can simply play on a private hive. I was trying to illustrate that it will be less severe on release. But simply playing on a private hive negates the issue and I fail to see why you are making a post about it. -

Judopunch replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
You know private hives will exist correct? You know it will be your choice to play on private hives or hives with more than one server correct? You realize that loot will re-spawn at some point gimping 'server hoping' correct? You realize that your solution creates a list of problems in and of itself correct? -
What are the cons of having higher Field of View
Judopunch replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Thats network optimization that they are working on you are correct. However they will also apparently be making wind and weather effect bullets (for longer ranged shots) in addition to travel time. -
What are the cons of having higher Field of View
Judopunch replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I dont believe this is the case in dayz. When you narrow your FoV it renders objects further in front of you, when you widen it you dont render objects as far away but do render more objects around you. I could be wrong but this is my impression. -
You do realize the irony in this... Dont you?

Than why not limit the camera motion more? Seems like a more tenable solution to me. I dont like the idea of 3pp in general. But 3pp is a different game, it has advantages no matter what you do. Making people vanish from existence is simply a bandage to the real problem that is 3pp has much more vision of the entire situation. 1pp does not. I truely think that 3pp doesnt need this 'fix' to keep people from seeing things they shouldnt see, because quite frankly being in 3pp is already giving you a huge advantage with or without the 'people poping into existence' problem the proposed change would create. Take for example, someone hiding in some tall grass 4 feet from you like that famous youtube video about why 1pp is so intense. They would have spotted him EASILY with or without this 'fix' to third person because it is innately broken if you truly care about aspects of the game involving vision .Like i previously said, lower the center of the camera, limit the motion of the camera to prevent 'easily' looking around corners. You could simply move the invisible pivot point for the camera to a point half way behind the player model, and make it so that without turning your body the camera cant give you more than 160 degrees of view or something. Restrict rotation on the X access to prevent people looking down to look over objects, and suddenly it becomes more difficult to wrap the camera around a corner to see the other side of a wall. You could even have a collision box for the camera that moves out from the player model that if they are against a wall the camera will not pivot far enough to look around the wall, unless the player is super close to the edge or peeking around it. Edit: Even one more solution: 3pp is locked as an over the shoulder camera instead of a free cam where the players model actually takes up visual space. Pushing a key allows you to switch what shoulder your looking over. But this 'make people invisible if you cant see them' is a small bandage on a problem where the only actual solution is to limit the game to 1pp. But if 3pp must exist, having people dissapear is un-intuitive, creates visual problems (people popiing in, I cant see things that exist, lag bugs, visual un-intuitiveness as world of tanks is the only game I have seen use a system like this and everyone hates it). Therefor limiting the cameras ability to generate 360x360 vision at least bypasses the visual oddness.

You could read the basic of what hes getting at. "Shooting people in games is fun". However I find shooting / torturing people who are un-armed or not hostile very unfufilling. When I hunt players I hunt players looking to or already causing trouble. I dont go to the newbie spawn area and pick off some guy who has no way to defend them-self. People that do that, in my opinion, are kids with a magnifying glass. They probably have low self esteem and are trying to exert some kind of childish dominance on people who cant really fight back or challenge their behavior. But thats part of what makes DayZ unique. The conflict that play styles create and the consequences of death.
