He expects us to 'read between the lines'. And then right after tells us hes speaking clearly. Yes. That did just happen. -

might1 [mahyt] Show IPAauxiliary verb1.simple past tense of may1 . May(used to express contingency, especially in clauses indicating condition, concession, purpose, result, etc.): I may be wrong but I think you would be wise to go. Times may change but human nature stays the same. Also this is still alpha, drop rates and systems are subject to change. You are arguing (i think) about a system that has only briefly been over-viewed with no specifics what soever. -

Than why did you tell me to read between the lines? ... However your problem, reading between the lines for this, seems to be you dont want it to hard to get. You are taking this out on a notion you may need to go steal one from someone else, possibly on another server. The problem here is its not confirmed that you wont be able to make one by staying in the same server, or exactly how uncommon they will be. I would be perfectly fine if you only ever saw one flying around every other day. More than that would seem to be to common for what I would prefer, but I will have a better understanding when we get other modes of transportation and fortification in place. I would personally like cars to be not to common either, but it could range anywhere from GTA 5 to only seen a minivan once. So we will have to see how they are going to handle maintenance and acquisition. -
Could be the footprint for an industrial area.

When item respawn comes into play will we be allowed to run our server 24 hours?
Judopunch replied to Caboose187 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I would assume that there will be a transitional period where we will have both, but hopefully we will have longer than 4 hour blocks of up-time immediately. Depends on if there are any problems. Eventually to my knowledge servers should seldom require a restart, but that is a very very long way off. -

No the point is illustrated in the downfall of World of Warcraft, and to a very great extent Guildwars 2. Wow raiding used to be Elite people, who could possibly bring some tag alongs. People cryed long enough that Blizzard finally made all content available to everyone, they removed the specialness from the accomplishment of doing something difficult, that took dedication and time. Guildwars 2 is the same story, everyone can heal tank and dps, everyone can do all of the content. Anyone can get anything. It waters down the experience. It becomes cheap. Its bad game design to cater to the ezmode instant respawn masses. This is also the aspect that makes DayZ unique, how hard it is to accumulate almost anything because there is no respawn, only start over. This is why its not arma 3, or BF4 with zombies. Its not my job to read between the lines, its your job to be articulate and facilitate discussion. -

Here is where you are incorrect, SOCIETY gives words context, thus their power. By ignoring this you wont get to far in life. Try dropping a couple N'bombs at a NAACP rally or your next job interview and let me know how that goes over for you. Reguards -

Your making unfair assumptions about how rare they will be. Your also contradicting yourself. You dont make them rare, you dont suggest how rare to make them, than you say to make them rare? Regardless of how rare some items are your not 'stopping players experience'. How rare it is creates a more unique experience for the haves and have nots. If you only ever got to ride in a helo one time ever, you would have a stronger more memorable experience than if you could get one whenever you wanted. Your also violating rule two of DayZ: dont get attached to your gear. -

The word, though commonly used in American English, is still offensive. It is considered highly offensive in European English. -
Incorrect. There was a typo somewhere. Dean had fixed loot spawns, and was manually respawning loot. Loot is not currently 'respawning' by itself to my knowledge, though many spawns are fixed. There was also just a post about loot spawn locations being fixed on live as well. Happy hunting!

CQB allows you to shoulder the weapon to aim much faster than the other two buttstocks. The idea is that the buttstock is in the collapsed position. In the collapsed position it would be difficult to shoulder if it were even possible, because the weapon is now shorter it takes less movement to accidentally knock your aim off. An extreme example is why pistols are much less accurate than rifles, it takes much less movement to completely change the direction the muzzle is pointing.

Server hoping =/= raiding another groups base on another server to steal their shit. Server hoping = log into unpopulated server, check for gear, log out Context. Stop trolling op. Or English is not your first language. If that is the case you misunderstood him. -
Is the main website down for anyone else?

They cant (nor should they) if they wanted to. They are gutting massive parts of the core architecture that handle how objects are used, created, and stored.

100 meters per second is 300 feet persecond, the maximum recommended speed of a paintball. It may have really good statistics on paper, but at anything past 50 feet and moving will propose a significant problem. Anything 300 feet or more can react if they see the shooter, and move by the time the arrow would arrive. And anything beyond that you can actually see the missile and move out of the way :) Im sure there will also be significant damage fall off at more than probably 150m.

Aye, I used that earlier today and it said it was still up :( Ty for the response

... And you will assume that this will be the only amo they add to the game. Why would you do this? And yes there has been crossbow pictures and aluminum arrows pictures floating around for weeks now.

Currently dispersion is an attempt to mimic what you say here. I would be happy to have sway and environmental factors, as well as how they are planning on removing the crosshair from the screen, in exchange for dispersion. However until that time I would rather everyone not have laser accurate weapons as the only thing preventing this currently is the negligible amount of sway and dispersion that we currently have. I believe this solution would make almost everyone happy. I would find it hard to believe anybody posting about how bad dispersion is would also object to having external factors have more of an effect on accuracy than the current random dispersion.

That is exactly right. It is all the info we have. As I stated about 8 posts ago. However the thread you posted, that we were discussing, made assumptions not included in deans overview. Which would have been fine had you wanted to discuss concerns and possible solutions. However your complained and stated your suppositions as fact. I agree many of the things you brought up will be a concern, I do not believe that those concerns will be un-addressed.

You are the biggest hypocrite I have ever seen. Say your not doing something, right after your do it, do it again right after you say you never did it. *slowclap*

Why would you assume, if they are giving us a modern crossbow as pictured in the dev blog, that we will only have wooden bolts. Now your being silly. You can be contrary and pick apart any little thing ever to find ground for your point. But it does not logically follow, nor does it contribute to good discussion. Instead, of play mr grumble butt. Why dont you suggest some of the different ways that it could be done well, with respect to the game and how it could create gameplay. Moping around saying 'it will never work' never gets anyone anywhere.
-
Though this is an extreme example. A crossbow can propel a bolt fast enough to go through a human rather easily. A compound bow probably has less of a chance. And the arrow tip would make a huge difference. And your standard body armor wouldn't help much either. Or cinder blocks, with a more reasonable crossbow. The point is these are very really very dangerous weapons. They can cause massive internal damage. I feel that people here have to little respect for how awesome these weapons can truly be. Will a rifle be better? Possibly. Is a guy armed with a crossbow any less of a threat? Not realy. Id almost rather be shot than hit by something like this. Game wise? Depends on how they want the bolt to do damage. It may or may not 'penetrate' in one shot. But they could aslo possibly have it severely effect movement and use of limbs. Cause massive blood loss. Require special mechanics to pull out or remove the bolt. Ect.

I edeted my post about 10 minutes ago. you are correct. it is still much quieter than even the quietest of guns.

I dont think its needed. Because I have played paintball, and to hit the end of an oil drum, shooting on my good side (to the left because im right handed) and consistently hit it at 30 feet took about a month of practice. All of this is on flat terrain, I could not imagine doing this in a field or on a hill, I would break my neck. I also think that the necessity of taking a firing position adds strategy to the game.

The difference in loudness between a crossbow 40-90db, and a .22 152db. A whisper at 30 feet is about 30db. As they deal with the zombies you will have more than enough time to take them out. I hope you learned something.
