NL38 - Possible admin abuse ("styZz")
fpjdenhartog@gmail.com posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Server Name: NL38 (Your) Timezone: CET Date/Time: 2012-08-02 / 21:37:27 (Fraps screenshot timestamp) Server Administrator('s): styZz What happened: Just now I was playing on the server "NL38" and the admin ("styZz") was present. Out of nowhere, the admin was killed (not by me) and immediately me and my friend got the "No message received from for x seconds" message, and we suspected everybody else did too because the server shut down. I suspect foul play. Evidence/Proof: http://i49.tinypic.com/dhdcn6.jpg -
Where to go ? Medical Supplies
fpjdenhartog@gmail.com replied to iNSANE''s topic in New Player Discussion
I've found that the Cherno west hospital (near all the appartments, on the edge of town) is easily approached from the North-West, use a hatchet to smash the glass, grab what supplies you need and rush back into the woods. -
My PC can't handle DayZ at all?

Welcome to everyone's world! There is but one explanation. Well, two actually: 1) The ArmA engine isn't very optimized 2) The mod's in Alpha -
How To Move DayZ To SSD?
fpjdenhartog@gmail.com replied to archangelalien's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Use mklink /J: First, copy over the arma 2 and arma 2 operation arrowhead folders to your SSD. Once you're sure the copying went OK you can delete them from your mechanical drive. Remember their filepaths. E = HDD C = SSD Open a CMD prompt: mklink /J "E:/path/to/steam/steamapps/common/arma 2" "C:/destination/path/arma 2" mklink /J "E:/path/to/steam/steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead" "C:/destination/path/arma 2 operation arrowhead" I haven't tested it with ArmA, but it has worked with other steam games. EDIT: OR, since it's a steam game, use SteamMover. It does the exact same thing as the above but with a GUI: http://www.traynier.com/software/steammover -
Let me rephrase: it's not the game - it's the mod. But hey, it's in Alpha.

Yes, it's the game. People with low-end systems can get decent FPS whereas people with high-end systems could get crap FPS.

What about a mechanic that makes your "eyes" get used to the dark over a period of time? -

I really don't mind how the night is... It adds a tension element to the game. Me and a friend spent 30-45 mins crossing a distance of only a few hundred metres at night, but it was fun! We had to use the coast as efficiently as possible in order to recognise silhouettes of ourselves and the zombies. Also, flares are a good last resort (for lack of a flashlight/chemlight). Yes, they'll attract attention but you don't have to be bang in the middle of them... -
It's not that it's too weak. I mean - it is, but this game is so poorly optimized that even people with high-end systems get crap FPS in the mod as it is right now. It's in Alpha, we have to deal with it.

Yes, another 'performance' thread.

Will this PC run DayZ?
fpjdenhartog@gmail.com replied to Tinkleman2112's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
In theory: it should run fine. In practice: DayZ mod is so unreliable in terms of performance... People with beast rigs are getting terribad FPS and people with outdated rigs are playing just fine (not all the time, but this is the general idea I'm getting tbh). Conclusion: buy this PC, but not to play this game. It'll be fine in running any other new game though. P.S.: May I suggest getting a slightly beefier PSU, 750W-ish, 'cause if you ever decide to add a second GPU you'll need it. -

My rig: Intel Core2Quad Q9550 @ 2.83 GHz MSI GTX 560Ti 1GB Twin Frozr II 8 GB DDR2 RAM @ 800 MHz 128GB Crucial M4 SSD (SATA2 speeds) Running Arma2 vanilla (or pretty much any other recent game, BF3, Max Payne 3, etc.) poses nowhere near the challenge for my PC as DayZ Mod does. I've searched for hours and hours... Running at 800x600 or 1920x1080, Very Low or Very High (no AA, no Post-Proc.), my FPS will never exceed 45, and that's when I look directly at the sea. Usually it's between 20 and 25 which is just unplayable for me. It dips down even further in/looking at towns. I run Beta version 93616 of Arma2 OA, and the latest DayZ Mod. Command line settings -cpucount 4 -maxmem 4096 -exthreads 7 (as I have gathered from several threads). The only time I really felt any improvement was when I turned MouseSmoothing to 1, which didn't actually boost my FPS but made the game a tad more playable. I'd settle for a minimum FPS of 30-35 but that's just not happening right now. I don't know what to do, I bought the game just for DayZ mod and now I can't play I'm very disappointed. I understand the game is in Alpha so I guess I'll have to wait until it has time to develop a little more but I can only hope that performance will increase even then. If anyone with a comparable setup has any solution or just anyone that did something to improve their FPS, I'd love to know! Cheers, Floris.
