You probably saw what you thought to be a Star Wars wookie, but was in truth a guy in a ghillie suit.

A beginner's tip that would've saved me if only I knew. If you get sepsis infection, use a disinfecting wipe, then apply bandage to the wound. If you don't have any and need time, try to find antibiotics. Otherwise you will die. Last time I played the Moon was on my South West. Not sure if it's always there. I didn't have time to find the Pole Star so I had to find another solution to get around. Other tip that helped me. Look at the map of Chernarus and try to memorize the big lines of it. The vehicles are located at different spots obviously, unless the server is freshly spawned or the vehicle got destroyed. But try to remember the bigger towns and their location. It's necessary knowledge IMO.

They are part of the game. Best thing is to get yourself some friends in this game. You are stronger in group than alone. Also goes for bandit players of course. Bandits are more effective in squads. It's one of the reasons I like this game. When people say "You might not stay in Chernogorsk, it's not safe", they are talking about hunters. How often have I seen cars filled with bandit-skin players driving past not noticing me. It's what makes this game thrilling.

Wiping wounds stops infection?
Bernharde replied to Karmaterror's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh dear. Was too late to have read this guide and fell victim to the infection. All I had to do was drive to a medical supply (preferably military) and find myself some antibiotics. I had two working cars I had access to even. :p -
In Minecraft you can eat Rotten Zombie Flesh with little risk. ^^

What's the best way to find my friends on the map?
Bernharde replied to WertyRO's topic in New Player Discussion
Learning to read Cyrillic only takes one day. It's that easy. Learning Russian might prevent you getting killed by the many Russian players in DayZ who typically play bandit style. I wouldn't count in it, though. -
The SVD SD Camo combined with a ghillie if I could get my hands on one. Excellent range, easy to use and hard to spot in the hills (and zombies won't run at you).

Would've been epic if you had fraps on. I believe you though. :)

Seeing there are so many people that can't be trusted, I'm sure there are many 'self-defence bandits' out there.

I've played on a non Epoch server and found one of these. They take up too much inventory space, though. If they don't have any use, I'll leave that one. It was on UK431.

What's the best way to find my friends on the map?

Or join a server which allows you to choose where you spawn near and look at the environment. -
Are many people still playing the Dayz Mod?
Bernharde replied to Suhr's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Some people are as crazy to have just bought it (four days ago), like myself. I also did it for Arma 2 (a realistic war simulator; might get Arma 3 after I upgrade my PC). I think I will wait with the SA when the game finishes. This game might have had a bigger community and currently the standalone version might be the one growing faster, but I still decided to go with the mod for the time being. There's still plenty of action to be found on the servers. -
Quick Question About Day Z Commander and the Mods
Bernharde replied to kd11080's topic in New Player Discussion
I have went with Epoch, Origins, Overwatch and Panthera. Have joined an Epoch server before, seems fun. Also been in a Panthera server (small community from what I noticed), but I had to walk forever Eastward over hills until I found a road and then a town. Small community because it takes forever to find a town I figure which makes dying so much more punishing. -
I'm fairly new at this game (got two people to buy ArmA II since ;); let the community grow!) and there are still many mysteries this game has for me. One of them is about what are exactly the mechanics behind the spawn rates of zeds and items. I've noticed that when you take out zeds their corpses will despawn after a while. I have never seen an active zombie spawn though. Do they spawn at each server restart? Or is it possible to completely clear towns of them until the next restart? (I would have prefered their corpses to remain or have their decay rate severely increase until a server restart; zombie corpses make great scenery IMHO) When you go out on a supply run, do items just respawn after a server restart? Or do they replenish eventually after a place got looted? About vehicles I do know their location are set when a server starts anew until a vehicle is claimed/repaired and moved elsewhere, then it stores its new location unless it gets demolished (then it resets again).

The mechanics behind the spawn rates
Bernharde replied to Bernharde's topic in New Player Discussion
Thanks for the info. But I don't think you ruined any of my gaming fun. I do know there's mechanics behind mobs, so anyone telling me how they work only make me wiser. -
Zombies in DayZ mod (just one quick question)
Bernharde replied to galekast's topic in New Player Discussion
No idea, but I do notice the zombies behave glitchy which I happily exploit. For instance if you enter small rooms, zombies would stop running and start walking. Once got overconfident though. I entered a small apartment building and went upstairs. I found a Revolver and a Lee Enfield. I thought of testing my revolver by shooting a zombies from the window. Suddenly 15 zombies started entering the building (blocking my path) I was in and going up the stairs. I suddenly hated my life. ;) -
Desktop or laptop? Desktop Monitor resolution: 1920x1080 CPU: Intel Core i7 930@2.80 Ghz Quad Core Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series RAM: 6 GB DDR3 SSD: No. I only need to update my graphics card. I think I'll get myself an AMD R7 270X. Would be nice to be able to run ArmA III eventually and boost my frame rate at ArmA II/DayZ (@15 fps online currently).

Either DE 1000 #1 NPC Fortress or DE 1000 #2 NPC Fortress. They do restart the server very often though (the one thing I dislike about this server). Despite being a German server its community is very international with people from all around of Europe (and Russia for those who don't count that as Europe). It's a very busy server full of PKs, by the way. However, when I posted that message I still thought I was posting at the mod version's forum (my first 2 messages on the forums here are at the wrong section :P). Sorry, I play the mod version, not the standalone one (might buy that one once it leaves alpha and beta).

Have map will travel.........unfortunately
Bernharde replied to MrCmurder's topic in New Player Discussion
I try to find a village/town and look at the Cyrillic sign. Then I look for the place on the map and check the environment (forest, plains, hill). Usually I know my whereabouts and which side is North by then. At night you can also look at the stars of course, but I haven't played during night time, but I've heard Pole star is headed North in this game. -
I've just recently bought Arma 2 and expansion and am fairly new to DayZ. I was playing on a German server that restarts every 80-90 minutes (with a minute counter and warning). 20 minutes before the server was about to restart I found a small working helicopter in a forest North of Guglovo (I believe it's was in the Black Forest, but I cannot confirm). I decided to try and fly it over to Elektrozavodsk, but I could only see it from a distance when the server had to restart. Relogging made me realise it doesn't save you being in a vehicle and I spawned on the ground I was flying above. Bummer. Now I have a few questions. Is it possible to save a vehicle for the server restart? It kind of sucks finding one 20 minutes before a restart. Is it server dependent that certain vehicles just spawn? Was it a spawn, or did I just steal it from someone else? How lucky was I exactly at finding that helicopter?

Thanks for the quick response. I found the busiest European server I could find on GameTracker (I play from Belgium). I was quick to learn that the game itself is a terrible way of finding a server. Curiously, though, I do have DayZ Commander, but as I had issues getting this game to work I might have overlooked it. It's indeed the superior way of finding the best server. I always thought so many restarts kind of destroys the gaming experience. One question though: does your vehicle also get saved if you're still in it? It's not much of a big deal when you don't have to race against the clock in a 24h-reboot server, though. I'll make that a new criterium for my future server. EDIT: Appears I also have decent ping on East Coast US servers.

You are right. I got confused because this forum is linked at http://dayzmod.com/. I had to scroll down a little it appears. Any mod reading this. Just delete this topic. I've created a copy at the right forum.

I'm very new at this game. However I logged into a German server where you can chose your spawn and I chose to spawn near Elektrozavodsk. Armed with only a Makarov SD (came with the server settings) I was nearing a barn at the griever hill near the town and saw a Russian player with a Bandit status exiting it not noticing me heading toward his direction. I came as close as 50 meter with him foolishly keeping his back turned at me. Best free kill ever. Gave me a nice M24. I was just very lucky, at the right place at the right moment.
