    Notebooks

I actually like this idea, finding a notebook full of personal notes on a body would surely add to the atmosphere in the game. Yet it had to be rare in order to not make the paper sheets useless.
  2. MrBecause

Machetes? or a large kitchen knife?

Yes, it is pretty much useless at the moment. I only carry it for the looks and because I like collecting new stuff as soon as it's added.
  3. MrBecause

    Abounded airplane at the airfield.

That's a good idea that would be beneficial to the atmosphere of the game and the overall look of the airfield.

What does your weapon say about you?

It was not my intention to make assumptions, I just wanted to ask you if you think assumptions should be made. Because if several people observed the same things I did, then there might as well be a correlation between the way you act and your weapon. But as long as this doesn't happen, it's just my observations. Also, I'm talking about the way you play, not who you are in real life.
  5. I got a bit tired of the firefights, so I decided to just start running around, helping people where I can. On my journey I've come across many different people with all sorts of weapons. Surprisingly, players with different weapons really seem to behave differently when approached. Speaking of main weapons, I've found that mosin users were the friendliest, followed by sks users, most of which were really nice people. The only ones that usually just shot me in the head, even after telling them I'm friendly and offering help, are M4 users (I didn't meet many with B95s or shotguns, so I couldn't really include them here). I'm not judging them, this is dayz and gunfights are fun, I'm just curious if this is simply due to the M4 being a semi-rare and strong cqb- weapon, or if it has something to do with the people choosing M4s. It could've just been coincidence as well. Have any of you experienced similar things and/or use the M4? If so, what is your opinion on the matter?
  6. I completely agree and here is why: 1.) It's only logical. This is the zombie apocalypse and the fact that the humans pretty much lost the fight, despite the amount of military in the area, means that there had to be incredibly many zombies. In a situation like this, military forces would fight until the very end, using every bullet they could find. Once they were out of ammo, they probably had to run for their lives, so they would've thrown away their now useless guns to escape, which is why a certain amout of guns should be found aound military areas. The remaining ammo would've been used by civilians . Ammo means survival and safety, even if you don't have a gun, you can still use bullets to make traps or improvise something that could fire single rounds with some effort. 2.) It would improve the gaming community. You were talking bout "CoD Kiddies" simply killing for fun or out of boredom, who make the game worse for the more serious players. Now if you need to spend dozens of hours just to find a single bullet, this would stop. People like these simply lack the endurance and dedication needed to spend their gametime like this. 3.) Player interaction would become more friendly. I respect the KOS mentality, but so far, there is no downside to it. With little to no ammo, people must consider needing the few shots they have in a really dangerous situation, with bullets being the most valuable items, shooting others for their equippment only makes sense, if you need less ammo than you'll find. 4.) Fights would become even more intense. Imagine you only have a revolver with 2 shots and an axe/machete and yyou see another player with a gun. You have to be very careful and very precise, or you'll lose your most precious items for nothing. Also, melee fights would become more common and seeing a player with an axe enter the building would actually scare people, intead of just making them pull out their M4 and turn the guy into swiss cheese. In my opinion, the amount of ammo needs to be lowered to about 0.1% to 1% of its current value to be realistic and good for the overall quality of the game. In the end it's a SURVIVAL game, not a civil-war-simulator. Together with more zombies, tents and improvised weapons, which are confirmed and will be added later, this could turn dayz into one of the greatest game experiences of all times. If you've seen/read "the road" ; I imagine a world like this, just with zombies and better weather!

    Can't we all get along?

People killing newspawns are pathetic. But actually, it's a lot better than what most people tell you. There are a lot of awesome, friendly players out there, but their reaction greatly depends on your apearance. I usually avoid, or occasionally KOS players in full military clothing, because the reason they wear camouflage is usually that they want to sneak up on other players, which I have seen countles times. I would NEVER KOS a player in normal clothes, even if he had a gun (unless he starts shooting, of course) and from my experience, people are usually really friendly if you don't raise your gun and slowly approach them, telling them you're friendly. Now there are a lot of exceptions, but it appears that more than 50% of the players approached this way act friendly.

    Too many military spawns?

I'm really looking forward to this and it shows how much the game will change until th alpha phase is over.
  9. A few days ago, I was playing with a friend on an almost empty server, in fact, there was only one other player. My friend decided to go loot the NW airfield, while I felt the urge to explore the far north of the map a bit, just to see what might be added there later. It was already evening and it started to dawn as I entered one of the bigger northern forests. Far away from any sort of civilisation, I decided to search for some berries, as I hadn't found some so far. Meanwhile, the last rays of light had vanished and I stood there in complete darkness, trying to get something that was not "you haven't found a single berry" from a bush. This didn't work out, so I thought I might as well head even futher north, turned around and turned on my flashlight. Directly in the face of another player standing there in utter darkness. I panicked and ran away. Looking back, I saw that the other guy had also tuned on his flashlight and was slowly walking deeper into the woods. He didn't even bother to run. I pressed "p" and saw that even now, there was only on other player on the server. This experience really shocked me and taught me to never expect to be alone. I know this sounds like something I made up, but honestly, it happened despite being incredibly unlikely.

    Too many military spawns?

Yes, too many. Far too many. This needs to be lowered to a point where it takes days or weeks to find all the military grade loot. As of now, everyone and their mother is running around with hundreds of bullets, pristine M4s with all pristine attachements in pristine military clothes. And that's ok for as long as there are just a few zombies, no tents and no hunting, it gives people something to do. But once these things are added, I hope the devs focus on making the survival aspect more about struggeling to survive in this zombie-infested world with almost no food and barely any good gear than surviving a military simulation.

DayZ SA is already becoming too damn easy

I agree, especially when it comes to ammo. It should take hours or days to find even a few bullets. Not only would this decrease the amount of players, who just kill for fun or out of boredom, it would also make firefights incredibly more intense. If you know you only have 2 rounds in your mosin and maybe 3 in your fnx, you can't afford to miss and have to plan your shots carefully. Melee combat would become a much bigger deal and maybe, people would try to form goups to combine what little ammo they have. Combine this with a much greater amount of zombies and you'll have an almost perfect zombie-survival game. Now this is an alpha, I'm really impessed with the game even at this state and these things really don't have to be changed anytime soon, but I am absolutely sure that they would put this game to a whole new level. I hope the devs take drastically lowering loot spawn and dynamically respawning loot into consideration.

My gear is starting to haunt my game.

Here's something I'm currently doing: start collecting pristine canopeners. Then, once your backpack is completely full of them ( or you're tired of searching), get rid of all your weapons and clothing that make you look dangerous (which, from my experience, drastically reduces the chances of being KOS'd) head to one of the bigger cities and start handing out your precious canopeners to strangers. Some won't be that grateful, but you'll hear a "wow, thanks man!" here and there. Which is pretty rewarding. Also, you could collect a lot of handguns and ammo and drop them in the middle of berezino/electro/cherno and watch people fight over them. What I'm trying to say is: don't focus on loot alone, try interacting with the community (more) and you'll definitely be entertained.

Luck is as important as skill

I've been looking for a long range scope for about 15 hours now, you really are pretty lucky. Glad to hear you managed to kill that ungrateful guy. Next time make sure he clearly states he's friendly, be it via direct communication or chat and stay back from him once you've dropped the stuff.
  14. MrBecause

If you get shot at what do you do?

I die. So far I've only been killed twice and both times from a sniper headshot, so I died instantly.
  15. A well organized group means safety. Since a single player usually doesn't pose a significant threat, you can interact more friendly and openly with them. Some use the power of their group to merely kill others, but this just makes two goups meeting more intense.
