I'd like to see this, If not just for the seated firing position only.

I still have a hard time grasping the concept of "KoS" as a label. By that, I mean packaging up all instances where upon noticing another player they simply kill them leaves you pretty much encompassing nearly all instances of being killed...as if there's no reason behind it, or cause, or purpose. From the killie's perspective, they were killed on sight but that's not taking into account anything that's going on from the killers perspective. At least in most cases that people complain about. Granted there are people who kill everything that moves, but can you bottle all their intent and murders into a nice little package and say that's "KoS"? It's just such a broad spectrum to try and state this is or that isn't "KoS" since every encounter with another player is another thought process and a different perspective. Just seems like the catch-all scapegoat, and a seriously shitty label and notion to me.

Civilian would have their elbows untucked...would half-face and show their side, unlike plate toward the threat...would rest their elbow ontop of their knee...all the things you unlearn to do in bct during brm/arm, they would do 9/10 times or more. Doing things that appear to "look like" actual fighting stances and doing the stances correctly with intent and purpose are about eight kinds of different. This isn't about simply looking above or around obstacles but physically placing your body in a form and functional state to maximize your front (offensively and defensively) toward the enemy.

[Discussion] What is needed to make hardcore, properly hardcore?
xRann replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
It depends on the person. Seen plenty of males and females equally suck and shoot well. When it comes to physical strength, generally speaking males out do females, but I've know plenty of "amazons" and they'd give you a run for your money. -
Did the same damn thing ;p

I don't like the idea of bring people "back from death" if it's due to combat related or multiple trauma causes. Once someone in a situation like this goes into decompensated shock, your chances of resuscitation are almost nil. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but the odds are skewed heavily toward death even with trained personnel and modern equipment. IF they could incorporate a system of shock, both compensated and de, then it wouldn't be so much "bring them back from death" but halting death with some stop-gaps. You should check out Roshi's medical suggestions. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/164770-roshis-suggestions/?hl=roshi Also, take a look at the link he has at the bottom of his first post. It's a link for Combat Lifesaver(CLS) manual, very relevant to any medical care which should make it in game imo. As the injuries/trauma presented in-game, along with the field environment, are in-line with real world casualties(see page 1-3 of the CLS pdf for a quick breakdown of casualty fatalities by cause). Survivability and medical care could easily be tweaked to remain realistic/authentic but still resemble the brutality of combat related death and not relegate it to some arcadie unrealistic reviving with defib paddles.

The benefit gained does give many people reason to kill. I'm not talking about regular use of 3pp, while I don't enjoy it many do, but the inherent abuse that people do use to simply rain hell while they giggle and laugh with their buddies from relative safety. So, no 3pp does make people kill but it does attract indiscriminate killers. *I'm not condemning 3pp, it's just something you have to deal with when 3pp is enabled.

Agreed, but the environment should be number one, people forget how easily simple exposure to the elements can be lethal. Most are very complacent. Cold or rainy? They go inside. Thirsty? Grab a drink from the fridge, or heaven forbid the faucet. Hungry?..You get my point? Left without any modern amenity the things most people take for granted are quite taxing. With regards to zombies requiring a headshot. They aren't Romero esque zombies but are infected people, and as such still need to succumb to death similarly to non-infected. Even given that, if the servers are able to maintain a much higher zombie population they will pose a serious threat and won't be able to be taken so lightly with careless disregard. They may be killing because you, simply being in their area, are a threat. I've ended a few people simply because they posed a threat and I simply could not risk turning my back on them. Not saying that is the case, but if you've been put in that position you know what I mean. But, much the same as Valadain said and I'll add that as a freshspawn I have zero regard for my own personal safety until I've cleared the coast or have gathered a weapon along with food and water. Until that time, balls out, no care in the world till I have something worth living for. Day zero struggles are always a blitz, like sea turtles racing into the ocean. You clearly haven't experienced it or seen the plethora of videos taking advantage cover and then popping up/out and dealing death. It happens. A lot. Any claim that it doesn't promote the tactical advantage of being able to see above and around cover in relative security is just nonsense.

Only once the new victor steps forward laying out their rules, else it is everyone for themselves or in very small groups. You're making the jump very quickly from no rule to warlord governance and just missing the entire section in between. I'm not arguing our ability to find normalcy and adapt, but only that there is a progression and transition from one state to another and the game takes place in the void between. The "KoS" argument or attempt to understand, define, limit, mitigate, or even categorize in any meaningful way is a lost cause. Too many factors come into play. There are those looking to just kill anything and you seem to think they are the majority, the ones always dealing death and killing you on what you believe is sight. I do not believe they are, as you have stated about human interaction in a similar situation, the majority. Just the ones you hear about, read about, have dealt with, or remember the most. There are simply too many factors involved in why someone makes the decisions they do, some not so much but generally speaking a multitude of factors create our decisions. You're also forgetting that maybe 30% of the features of the game are in place. This is a huge reason pvp is the end goal, but don't mistake pvp for your notion of what "KoS" is. As more an more features are implemented people will have more to do rather than just pvp. However, as human interaction goes this game is very limited in body language and expression which constricts our ability to judge hostility or underlying motive. So, people will still kill to gain loot/gear/vehicles/whathaveyou and people will still kill to defend it because we're limited in our ability to interpret the player behind the avatars. If you want to remove "KoS" or banditry you'll just have to wait for private hives, because people will always be able to kill you regardless of what header the server places in it's title. You could try 1pp servers and/or the experimental servers, I can tell you there are generally less people with the intent of just pvp. That's not to say it won't happen, you'll just find more non-hostile interactions to be more common. Many times I've ran into someone and we both size each other up, offer each other supplies, offer intel on looted and cleared areas, and head our separate ways. Much like I would assume would actually happen. The abuse of 3pp is a huge motivator for people to simply kill indiscriminately because of the physical security it offers while using cover. And considering it allows for that abuse, and what I consider game-breaking playability, it comes with the territory that you will have more people killing from a secure hide. Limits to LoS goes out the window and so do most common or even advanced tactics while playing 3pp, the same cannot be said for 1pp.

Would you play a game with real permadeath?
xRann replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Rouge-likes, tasted perma death and got hooked back in the late eighties...now I'm shoveling dayz crack cakes. Would totally play a game with perma death or some seriously nasty painful death penalties. -
Except in the case of this game, yes it is a complete breakdown. There are no governing agencies or organizations besides what we make. As for the real world analog, every vacum created by the absense of governing and lawful punishment is quickly pounced upon by violent men. I cite Somalia as a prime example along with many others, within the last two decades.
-
The huge difference is that your example, Katrina, and any other singular event has been localized. We're not talking about a temporary breakdown, but a complete breakdown. This is a major, world altering, difference. With no leadership or organization able to assist and supply aid indefinitely the outcome would have been drastically different and unfortunately, I fear, much more violent due to diminishing supplies and the chaos associated with no end in sight.

most exclusively in US = console gamers > PC gamers
xRann replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
I suppose it'd apply, but all the people I know that were home schooled are all above average so it kinda lacks..unless you play the "hot for teacher" angle ;p No, sir. That's clearly just one. -
who else is excited about the recent tweet from rocket?
xRann replied to mjf6866's topic in General Discussion
Would be nice if it's an addressable issue and not inherent. If it is "fixable" and can free up some fps for server and client that's awesome, and gives some more room for further implementations and features. -

I take all his speculation as a "grain of salt" the guy loves to speculate. It's probably almost like masturbation for him, only he can do it in public with an audience and people eat that shit up. And I asked because I am and I wasn't dazzled by anything shiny. So, if you were private schooled you should be after some reimbursement. -

You even read the articles you posted? "Before you get your hopes too high that you'll be running around a fairly abandoned world with 50 of your closest, zombie-fearing friends, we should clarify that Hall hasn't actually talked to anyone from the PlayStation side of things just yet. And Hall himself confirms that it's still "too early to say at this point" whether DayZ could or would successfully find a second (or third) home on either console." and "Unfortunately for people who would like to see DayZ on consoles, Hall said it's just too early to say one way or the other." Took me all of two minutes to process both articles...You public schooled? -

Humans are food too bro! Stop the prejudice! -
I say, you give too much credit...perhaps small groups would manage but in a situation like this an individual, even of sound mind, would care about themselves and DIRECT relations and loved ones above and before anyone/thing else. It is quite realistic regardless of how you attempt to tie it to war when I made no direct link to war/warfare and just atrocities done by "civilized" people with a "me", "us", and "them" mentality throughout human history. I generalized only that our species, as a whole, is not by any means civilized. Our base instincts and animalistic nature override any perceived amount of humanity you think we, as a species, even have.
-
^this, agreed. I haven't made this argument here, but I have in the past and that is this. Throughout ALL human history "civilized" people have committed atrocities time and time again. What makes you so sure we're a civilized species?

100mph tape = noise reduction canteens or water bottles, best way to make silent is to keep them full. Seems like a lot of work to add without also adding a way to reduce it within reason. You can hear me coming in my assault pack because I don't have it taped up. You wouldn't be able to hear me with my ruck or aid bag till I was on top of you though. Just doesn't make complete sense to me to say just because you've got a bunch of stuff you're going to become a marching band. Prime example, pill bottle w/o cotton vs pill bottle w/ cotton in it. The former is insanely loud while moving in comparison to the latter.

Why are you against many military items in game?
xRann replied to CrazyCorky's topic in General Discussion
Military grade gear would/should be common, based on the forces that were present. You would expect the forces that failed to contain the infection to either become infected or disperse leaving equipment rather than their lives. Either way, their kit would be up for grabs. I'd rather see loot locations completely randomized as you wouldn't have a concentration of any particular gear/items in one region once the forward lines attempting to contain the infection are broken and troops disperse to small holdouts, couple that with civilian holdouts attempting to survive and stave off their small corner from the infected. Also, if you assume gear found is/was gear used then pristine items should be very uncommon if not extremely rare. -
you know weapon attachments spawn at high value non-military spawns...airfields are generally picked through, sniped, and high traffic. Plenty of other places to score a mosin and lrs, I think I've only got one mosin from the nwaf, rest have all come from the offices, techs, piano houses, barns, cafes, tri-level stores... Best place for attachments are the garages, at least in my playthroughs, always score parts there.
