    How to fix the timer issue...

    It's just too taxing on the server to do checks and run more tasks when performance is already an issue. You want the server to calculate more when even getting loot and ai to respawn is an issue due to server load? The current implementation has addressed the problem. As for polishing and improving the current fix, it could use some but I'd rather more pressing matters of performance and optimization take precedence.

    I work for a living, am lucky if I get to play an hour a night during the week, have kids, a wife, bills, drill, work six days a week and am on call 24/7 and couldn't care less about five minutes cooldown. Your argument is invalid. Remove the sand from your nether region young lady.

    Doesn't matter if it's the same server or a different one. On server restarts I generally have to disco/reco in order to get past "Please wait." screen else it's all too reminiscent of a database failing to create a character back on the mod and being eternally stuck. Either way you're penalized, just grab some coffe, chow, or a smoke.

    Romeo Foxtrot, the problem with flagging the player is that again is going to be another task the server must monitor and run. At the cost of other functions, ai/loot respawns to name just two, you'd be adding workload each time someone fires. Just not a viable option, too resource dependent.

    Agreed. At the very least knowing ruff grid cords and a general idea of "where would I build/hide shit" and you're good to go. The map, once known well, does become quite small and easily navigated.

    Hey, I went to Roc to sight see and then quick vault off. I was delighted to see that my first attempt could be done multiple times, I think after 15 jumps off the top, 7 off the stairs, and 10 more off the turret next to the stairs doing sick twists and prone dives I had completed MY MISSION. So I ate the rotten bananas and took a nice pantsless forced march to Elektro. I'll troll myself if I'm so inclined, thank you very much. Next you'll tell me not to overfill on water and make myself vomit for fun and then have to sprint to find food?

    The logout timer was done to stop combat logging. The 5 minute login timer was done to stop hopping/ghosting. Don't confuse the two courses of actions and the two methods of abuse.

    current build has fall damage all jacked up. I was jumping off Roc, because why not, I was there, and found that a rotten banana was a much faster method currently.

    Just learn the map and landnav. Having a map, compass, or gps just takes up space and is a crutch. I honestly can't remember the last time I was lost on Chern ;p

    Say the "Logout Timer" system is running. I get to a decent position, set myself to logout, and wait. If nobody shows, restart logout timer. If somebody shows, gain a tactical advantage or logout.

    Nawh, I feel you. In a session of ~6hrs I'll get hit with about 3-6 login timeouts depending on server restarting. Bad dsl, crappy computer, wife using wifi, you name it my connection suffers. But, it is what it is. If able, I'd like to see it though.

    I'd like this but I believe it falls into the same problem with the logout timer issue that Rocket commented on. Along the lines that it would require additional serverside resources to monitor and await input from the user and open up possible exploits and/or hamper overall performance. *edit I generally have to reconnect to a server that has been restarted within 10-15minutes, else I get stuck on "Please wait." So I get hit with login timers. Or my awesomely shitty dsl just doesn't like servers within ~50 miles and I lag out and have to play elsewhere and get hit with timers. No biggie, would just be nice if it's possible.

    lordy lordy, five minutes is ages to wait to get my digital fix....but seriously, it's five minutes and you're back in the game. get up, stretch, eat, drink, smoke, jack it, exercise, piss, whatever you can do to kill five minutes and move on.

    Wouldn't mind one hand flashlight one pistol, but two pistols is just wildly ridiculous. Try it sometime, if the range would even allow you to attempt it.

    ArmA II towns need more love.

    If you take a run up north you'll find many laid out plots for farms/depots/villages/towns/cities, the roads, tracks, and terrain have already been staged. More will come and it will be most welcome. I don't think reworking the current towns/cities would really be something to polish up now, perhaps down the road though.

    machete can also open canned foods, afaik it doesn't seem to degrade in the process either. +1 in my book
  25. Like the others said. There's just no way to make a distinction, so just roll with it and grab a coffee, chow, or a smoke while you wait to relog. Happen to me plenty already, is a fair trade to mitigate loggers and hoppers.
