[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
zxc (DayZ) replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
It's rather hilarious how worked up people get about heatmaps. Hundreds of thousands of people play this mod, that's a -LOT- of data. No-one is going to be disadvantaged by the release of this data. Stats are fun for the curious-minded, and that's all it is. -
That wouldn't make sense. Allowing it to use any 9mm SD rounds would' date=' like the M9SD mags and MP5SD6 mags. [/quote'] 9mm SD rounds don't make sense because there is no such thing and no need for subsonic 9mm rounds Fogs effect on sound transmission is not negligible, in fact fog dampens sound noticeably, especially high frequency sounds. Why do you think fog horns uses low frequency sounds? because low frequency sounds carry farther I believe that was a rhetorical question.

It's Impossible to See at Night! - Other threads will be locked/deleted!
zxc (DayZ) replied to daish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The night is much too dark, anyone playing without nightvision will realise this fact within 20mins. -
I agree with the others saying that the zombie respawn timer is a bit too fast. It's more of an immersion thing than a difficulty thing.

The hearing and sight levels of the zeds in the daytime now feel perfect I think. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.5 Rolling Update
zxc (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I was in a shed and the zombies attacking me kept closing the doors, so I couldn't shoot them properly but they were killing me fast. -
Suggestion on how to balance Zed aggro and pvp (Long)
zxc (DayZ) replied to stickyJedi's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
+5 Absolutely. I (as well as a group of friends) also think the zombies should respawn about 2-3x slower, hit harder, move a bit slower, and there should be more of them. -

I was getting it for a while. I tried clearing AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA\MPMissionsCache and I think it fixed the problem, however it might've simply been the fact that the server I then joined had just restarted.

Ok, I tried deleting the files in AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA\MPMissionsCache and joined a server, and my fps is now 70+. However, the server had just restarted, so I'm not sure if the server restart did it, or clearing that folder, or a combination of the two. Try it guys.

My fps issue seems to be resolved, at least for the most part, by itself. Edit: And to repeat again, I noticed an enormous fps drop AFTER 1.7.1.1 hotfix, it was fine before it. Edit 2: It seems there is still an fps drop, but varies between servers. I was on ANZ 1 just now for < 15 fps, and ANZ 2 for about 30 fps, when normally I get at least 40 fps.
-
This is strange, because with 1.7.1 I had decent fps (40+) and after 1.7.1.1 my fps is capped to 9. Edit: Everyone else I know has the same issue as well. I joined a 1.7.0 server and although bugged out with no debug info, I still got 80+ fps.

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
zxc (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES It will encourage cooperation between gunless survivors, end makarov parties on the coast, and make respawning more tense. -
Oh, this is funny! Hey, you realise if you go prone in a bush in a forest, your character will basically never die to zombies or players? Then why were you quoting me? You horrible, awful person.

I only play on beta servers with the beta patch, and I do see some severe desync sometimes. On the other hand, sometimes it's fine.

A disconnection in any way, be it internet timeout, quitting the game, alt-f4 etc. And disconnecting to avoid zombies is as much an exploit as disconnecting to avoid players. 5 seconds isn't long enough if a player is shot by another, then dives into a building or behind solid cover and then disconnects. Twenty seconds is not long enough either, because it would become a viable tactic to bait enemy players into thinking you disconnected and lie in wait for them. A disconnection lasting as long as shock would make it a far riskier decision to disconnect behind cover, and so would deter players from doing so.

Read through the entire thread, upcoming patch sounds awesome. Spawning without a weapon would do wonders for this game, assuming the hiding mechanism works. Amnesia: The Dark Descent illustrates why this would contribute to the suspense. It will also get rid of the silly makarov wars on the coast. It will make respawning much more exciting, and the moment when you find your first weapon will be that much better. It will encourage cooperation. There may be some people who will camp the coast, but I imagine it would be fewer than you'd think. Besides, there are many spawn points, and hiding works on players too you know. -------------------- The five second disconnection delay is a step in the right direction, as a temporary measure. Myself and a few friends were discussing what the best solution would be, and we came up with this: 1. If you lose connection to the server in any way, your character remains in the game world, unable to agro NEW zombies and able to be hurt by already agro zombies, bleeding, and other players. 2. If you disconnect while in safety, your character remains ingame for 20 seconds. 3. If you disconnect while you're in shock, your character remains ingame until shock disappears (5mins max). 4. Temporary ban from all servers after each disconnection, lasting the length of time your character remains in that server.
