I've been playing DayZ since January of 2014, both Mod and Standalone. I love the mod, especially with the maps/mods FOR the mod. I expect many things from the game but I expect it to take quite awhile.

Arma 2 OA is being glitchy (Sorry for lack of better explaining)
bathtubbarracuda posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
So I've reinstalled Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA three times prior to this. I'd also like to apologize if this issue has been resolved previously, and I'm sure it has, and I haven't looked. When I launch Arma 2, it's all good. When I launch Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead, I'm greeted with this message: "No entry 'bin/config.bin/CfgInGameUI/MPTable.shadow.' " After I launch it, this message pops up: "Error compiling pixel shader PSSpecularAlpha:0" When I click "Ok," the game closes. Any suggestions? Thanks! HERE ARE THE IMAGES, BUT: The first images reflects the second problem involving the crash, and the second picture reflects the first image. http://imgur.com/mvVuqgY,uxKxCUO#0 -
Arma 2 is glitching up
bathtubbarracuda replied to bathtubbarracuda's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Thank you! There seems to not be an AddOns folder in Arma 2. (Steam>SteamApps>Common>Arma 2) I will try to reinstall or something. Thank you for the advice on DayZ Commander, I won't use it anymore. -
So, I wasn't totally sure on what to name this title, so I'll just come out and say it. Arma 2 is...buggy. I can't really explain so I'll attach screenshots. So DayZ mod is working, but it appears that I don't have Chernarus or something loaded and when I verify the files of Arma 2 and Arma 2: OA via DayZCommander, it says that OA was missing 2 files and they will be reaquired. It seems this hasn't been done, as the same message pops up when I verify, say, an hour later. It's stuck on loading and doesn't progress when I verify Arma 2. I've launched each one over and over to see if it works (it doesn't) and I've reinstalled all four Arma 2 games, to no avail. This is sort of annoying as I hadn't done anything that would cause this to stop working. I ran out of upload space so I uploaded them on a wiki. Please give suggestions. I know what you're thinking -- that I'm too lazy to find a server. But I've found about fifteen inactive servers that would've been totally awesome but alas, they were all down and have been down for the past month or two. So I'm desperate. Remove this thread if you wish, but I'm super bored. So, here's what I'm looking for in a server: 1) Gold Coins, preferrably 2) Chernarus/Namalsk 3) AI bases/outpost 4) Not fully militarized 5) No starting kit 6) AI Missions 7) Overpoch 8) Take Clothes 9) No Plot-Pole/Perm plot pole I'm sorry for asking you to find me a server, but I'm super tired at this point for looking for servers when they're just down.

I have only found one in the 300+ hours of playing this game, and it was in the Air Control Tower at the NE Airfield

The Lone Wolf: My Playthrough
bathtubbarracuda replied to bathtubbarracuda's topic in General Discussion
Well, when I shot that guy, I was originally heading to a treeline on a hill near the NE Airfield to snipe. Now on this life I plan to do just that. I do need a Mosin with the long-range scope, but I will snipe. I'm tired of being nice for awhile. Now, I'm gonna kill anyone who sees me and has a gun. If they don't have a gun, I'll let them go. But that's that. The paranoia has really got to me. I want to see a person before they see me. I haven't killed a single person in this game, but with the rate things are going now, I think--No, I know-- I'll have blood on my hands. When I have a teammate, I will have him go into the city, get loot, and scram while I provide overwatch, or vise versa. That's how I want things. 2 isn't a huge amount, and I've played MineZ (DayZ in Minecraft) with a certain person for months, and when he gets the game, we will split loot. 2 is not a sacrifice of loot, maybe 3, with 4 people you will have to ration everything out. -
The Lone Wolf: My Playthrough

I've only gone to an airfield once with a teammate, and we were separated for a brief time. I have gone to the International Airfield three times and the NE Airfield dozens of times, and I have survived almost any encounter. I play on servers with 10-20 people, I don't know if that sets the bar, but I survive, albeit paranoid. -
The Lone Wolf: My Playthrough

Well, that guy I vaguely mentioned that called the airfield, "Sniper Paradise?" Well he was shot. Literally seconds after he gave me my first gun in DayZ (with ammo, signaling extreme trust), he was shot through the head. That marked the beginning of my paranoia. We were at the town south of the NE Airfield. Just last night, I accidentally shot a guy and knocked him out when I panicked. It had been a long time since I've seen a person, and I guess I just didn't know what to do. I patched him up and fed his body food and water before offering to find a defib for him. His buddy spawned in, and shot me when I started to talk to him. I was also threatened at gunpoint earlier. Look, I'm serious when I say the zombies are good. Zombies can't shoot you. They make loud noises. They don't betray you. They try to kill you, but it takes a long time. Humans are worse than zombies in DayZ. If this logic worked in a real zombie apocalypse, then everyone would die within the first year. It's quite awful. I DID shoot an innocent man, but he was looking the way I came out a window with an M4 raised, so that couldn't have been good. I don't trust anyone who isn't in a Skype call with me. If (when) I start a clan, mainly designated to trade, when it comes to ammo and weapons, we will put them in a pre-determined location. Sometimes I think it's good to go alone. -
I'm not intentionally alone. I just am. Most of the survivors I meet end up losing their lives or logging. Sometimes I Skype with my UK friends, but they play for like an hour, so I usually find myself alone. It's quite nerve-wrecking, being out alone for me. I usually love being alone when it comes to this, I mean, I get all the stuff, but still. Nobody can watch your back, nobody can help you. It's you, you, and all you. I eat, drink, and kill alone. I hardly ever find people alive, let alone people I team with. The closest thing I've found to a human so far is a note warning me about bandits. And I usually go to dangerous places, like the International Airfield and military bases. I teamed once with a guy, and he referred to the airfield as "Sniper Paradise." Nobody can watch me while I move in, so I either risk it or spend a very long time checking the treelines and towers. But I've made it out here for awhile, alone. PROS OF BEING ALONE: -All the gear to yourself -Less Obvious -More Stealthy (Leads back to point number two) -You can do what you want to do CONS OF BEING ALONE: -Nobody can give you supplies if you're running low -Getting hurt badly (Shot, breaking legs) can be more serious, even fatal. -Paranoid -Lonely This all comes from my opinion. I might kill a friendly survivor out of paranoia. It's more dangerous when you're alone. If you're knocked out or break your legs, or lose alot of blood, your teammate might have Morphine or a Splint for you. If your mate has supplies that you don't, they could very well save your life. I don't like being alone, I would rather be with a group or even with one person. I keep moving, and try not to lose my life. I often will hunt bandits, and that is extremely dangerous alone unless you have a huge advantage. But once again, you are more stealthy, and you don't have to follow orders (unless you're the leader of the group). I remember I was poisoned, shot, and left for dead by bandits. If I had a teammate, I would have made it. But I crawled, with a broken leg, to a tower, and I jumped off it, and died. So when you're alone, this is all I suggest to you: Be careful, be aware, be alive.

This story takes place in DayZ mod, but the end is where my character's story picks up in the DayZ Standalone. Chris continued moving on through the woods. This was, what, Day 20? Chris had pretty much lost track of time by now, and didn't care. Like he was gonna make it. Chris was pretty surprised he's still alive. As a branch almost hit him in the face, the survivor paused. He heard crunching. Footsteps. Then hysterical screams. Zeds. Chris instantly drew his M9, and started looking around. He couldn't see anything, but the footsteps were getting louder. Suddenly, two infected humans, both wearing bloodstained military uniforms, started sprinting at him. Chris raised his M9, then pulled the trigger. Nothing. He didn't load the gun. Chris turned and started to run when he heard gunshots. He turned around. Both zeds lay on the ground, bullet holes showing in their faces. They were shot. Then someone, masked in a ghillie suit, stepped out, M16 raised. The barrel was smoking. "Put your gun down," The survivor ordered sharply. Chris didn't feel like dying to some idiot in a grass suit, so he dropped the empty M9. "What's in the backpack?" He asked. His voice was commanding and not at all gentle or friendly. "Beans, soda, and painkillers," Chris responded. "No," The survivor denied. "You couldn't make it out on your own out here. You have more shit," The stranger, now identified as a bandit, said doubtfully. It was true, there were some M9 mags and a blade, along with some other...dangerous items, but Chris wouldn't tell. But now the bandit is calling his bluff. Then more histerical shrieking. "Get down, get down!" The bandit whispered, and they both crouched. There were alot of footsteps, so there were alot of zombies. Twigs and sticks broke under the sound of heavy footsteps of the infected. Unbeknownst to the bandit, Chris had pulled out an M9 mag, and slowly slid the clip into the gun. Then the click of it loading in. The bandit immediately looked towards Chris at the sound, but at that time the zombies, numbering around 10, broke into the clearing, and at least 7 of them pounced on the bandit. He shrieked in agony, bringing in the other zeds focused on Chris, as they bit into his flesh, His M16 going off and unaffectively hitting the zombies in the legs, not affecting them. Chris turned to run, and after 20 feet, he tripped on a log and hit his head on a rock, knocking him unconcscious. When Chris awoke, it was dusk. There were flies. The sound of flies. That meant someone was dead. The bandit. And as Chris stood up, and rubbed his head in pain, he heard a groan. But not a zombie groan. A groan of pain. Then coughing. Christopher looked towards the dead bandit, and found that he was not dead, but near death. He almost threw up. The bandit was horribly gored, his stomach ripped open, his left arm barely attached to the rest of his body. His legs were tattered, and his whole body was covered in blood--and bites. "Ugh," Chris muttered in disgust. The bandit was still alive. Still. Alive. He looked like he was about to just give up. But it had been hours. He had been lying here for hours. The M16 was nowhere to be seen. The bandit's dying eyes met Chris's. His ghillie suit was ripped up, torn off by the horde, and spawn gear was seen underneath. And he whispered one word, not to be dramatic, but that was as loud as he could speak. "End this." And Chris did. He aimed the M9 at the bandit's head, and pulled the trigger, killing him instantly. Then the sound of groans and yells. The zombies were alerted. Chris left the bandit's corpse, to be gnawed on by the zombies. 3 DAYS LATER Chris awoke to see two men looking at him. He had run to an airfield, and set up camp for the night. The two men weren't masked, and although armed, smiled warmly at him. "Hey, friend," One of them said, offering a hand. Chris seized the opportunity, and grasped his hand, and was pulled up. "We're heading to Cherno," The other one said, pointing towards a helicopter. "Need a ride?" Chris nodded, smiling. While walking, he was briefed. "So what will happen is we'll get to Cherno, then drop you off, and we can go our separate ways," One of the men, introduced as Paul, said. "Fair enough," I respond as the helicopter started to spin up. Chris sat there, relaxed, as the helicopter flew safely in the air. They had been flying for about an hour now, and Chris heard mutters in the cockpit. He had given them his backpack, and trusted them with it. Then he heard the word "bail," and he froze. Hot white fear blazed down his back. They might kick him out. But after around 10 minutes, nothing happened, and he relaxed. Then, as they neared the shore, Chris felt a sharp pain in his back, and felt weak. "Sorry, but this is the way its gotta be," He heard Paul say, then everything went black. On and off. It was about a half hour. Paul was holding him while he felt his coat and clothes get removed, and was cold, only feeling a T-shirt and pants on. Then a backpack was placed on him, and he saw Paul holding him. "Try and find us!" He taunted before laughing, and pulling a pin on his backpack as he was thrown out of the chopper. A parachute opened up. It wasn't a backpack, but a parachute. And he was headed straight towards the water when he passed out. Chris awoke washed up on a beach, near a dock. The parachute wasn't on him. There was a flashlight and a battery in his pack, along with a T-shirt and jeans. He slowly got up, and looked around. He wanted revenge. And he would have it.

Note: I am not affiliated to the music maker. While DayZ browsing, I found a trilogy made by 'bLakeMusic,' a music maker (duh). It tells a pretty emotional story, and I'll tell the story. Episode 1: Episode 1, "DayZ," basically tells about how Blake, the narrator and singer, was with his friend when they were jumped by bandits, and got separated. He tried to track down Dave, his friend, and get revenge on the bandits. Eventually, in a town, he finds a hatchet, and a masked man with a gun (presumably a bandit) tells him to "try and run," which is thought by Blake as a taunt. He flanks the person and hacks him down with the hatchet. Blake tries to reassure himself, but wonders if the man was trying to protect him from zombies or something behind him. Blake removes the mask, and finds out it is Dave. In the beginning of the video, an audio tape, recorded by Blake, asks Dave for help, then gets angry and curses loudly. Episode 2: Episode 2, "DayZ gone by," tells the story of Blake again, and 3 months have passed since he killed Dave. He watches a man get killed by bandits, and gets angry because he didn't do anything. He decides to avenge his death, and shoots one of the bandits in the chest, killing him. Another flees. Blake then fights the rest of the bandits, killing several, and then turns to run. Unfortunately, the bandit who fled caught up to him, and shot him. As Blake's vision fades, a man tells him he's gonna be ok. Gunshots go off as the video fades to black and the singer slowly chants, "DayZ." Episode 3 (Finale): Episode 3, "DayZ will end," skips to when the man who saved him and Blake are sitting in a campfire. They plot to kill the bandits, after the man mentions that he killed the bandit who shot him (he says, "I put a bullet in his head"). The rest of the video, they track the bandits together, and get them, while the man decides to snipe. They fight at Polana, and Blake is shot and wounded, and says that he'll fight because it's too late to hide. There are gunshots, and then the man charges into Polana, killing several bandits before finding Blake's dead body. The video then ends. Playlist:
