What vehicles would you like to see in DayZ?
Proper Gander replied to over9000nukez's topic in General Discussion
Ural Motorcycle -
I like the idea, and I can foresee an un-intended consequence: skilled players jumping off of cliffs and skyscrapers to re-spawn as a player of their choice (already happens when some players want a better spawn location.).

I was going to ask, "What exactly is a 'military grade crossbow'?" But I found the answer myself in the detailed archives of Wikipedia. Not my preferred weapon of choice IRL, but then again neither is a fireaxe.

How do you hold so many weapons Mr. Dead Guy?
Proper Gander replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Put one on your back and you can pick one up in your hands. You have to drop the one in your hands to "use" anything else. Also, you can't pick it up through the inventory screen; you must use the action key. -
PROOF from Ukrainian uprising the PRESS VEST WORKS!
Proper Gander replied to Mr Jizz's topic in General Discussion
Is it just me or does that vest appear to have a rifle plate insert? It looks far too rigid to simply be soft body armor. -
So you are saying that you'd rather shoot someone multiple times with no/little effect? I agree that dispersion needs to be addressed, but if the damage isn't fixed, then the dispersion doesn't even matter.

According to DayZdb, both weapons currently have the same stopping power. Therefore, the .45 is probably your best bet.

I always tell my brother: "we have guns for a reason."

This thread made me think of Book of Eli... Except you were no Denzel! http://youtu.be/DR3OT6aKZKY

My first brushfire (and combat log)...
Proper Gander replied to akpe's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't really count this as "combat logging," although undoubtedly others will disagree with me. However, you made a prudent decision and chose survival over death by your long, arduous retreat to a "safer" place. Nothing wrong with that. -
I understand the concept of "ping" in the Player Status screen (generally the lower the better), but I do not understand what the "bandwidth" numbers represent. If someone can direct me to more information, I would be much appreciated.
-
For a couple of minutes last night, as my bandwidth was 15,000, I had a ping of less than 60 and no desynch (nor yellow or red chain), however, I was having issues accessing inventory and my movements were not correctly registering to my brother (i.e. which weapon i was carrying, going prone, etc...). It cleared after a few minutes and we continued on the same server for another four hours or so, but my "bandwidth" rates dropped over time from the 15,000 range to 10,000 to 5,000 and finally settled at around 1,000. I wasn't sure if the bandwidth meant anything, so I thought I'd ask. Since it seems to be server-side information, then I will ignore it. Thanks again for the info.
-
Thanks for the links and explanation. I am a "normal" player and have no need for information pertaining to server hosting, etc... But I do appreciate the information (even though I may not read all 20 pages of it). My reason for asking is because my "bandwidth" is usually MUCH higher than other players. Where most folks' hover around 250-750, mine will be over 1,000. Last night, I was even in the 15,000 range for a bit. My brother's bandwidth is also a little higher than other people (on average), but we rarely see any lag between us (he plays from Texas, and I play from North Carolina). Anyway, I hope that frames my question a little better, and I think that you have provided me the answer.

I hope to see a craft-able vehicle like in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

I would reckon that countries with the AK on their flag do so out of necessity rather than choice. And still neither the Mosin nor the SKS fits the bill when it comes to a modern assault rifle as neither are more accurate or precise than the M4, regardless of typical engagement ranges.
-
So, I guess that the game is mostly about weapon balance at this point (seeing all of Gews' different analysis of the current state of ballistics). If they start to take "realism" into account once the project moves past alpha, then the weapon choices will become much more self-evident. On a side note, there is definitely a reason why armies no longer use the Mosin Nagant (or SKS) while the M4 is proliferating as the assault rifle of choice.

So idk if anyone else noticed this...

So... how much did it take to kill the guy who kept shooting you? -
Weird and stupid interactions in Berezino on Zombz.net last night.

Is there no force effect to getting shot?
Proper Gander replied to sav112g's topic in General Discussion
I think you're looking for something like this: May be a little graphic for some people. -
You don't need a military spawn point to find the things that you are looking for your SKS: bayonet and PU Scope.
-
Something like this happened to my brother last night; you should enter a bug report.

Sociopaths feel no empathy for others. My favorite part of the story though: "I like your hat." Beans to you, my sociopathic friend! :beans:

Because they don't care. These people simply want to "win" whatever they are playing. It doesn't matter that this isn't a PvP FPS, it is whatever the players (i.e. testers) want it to be. It is both the problem and the solution. I imagine that at some point, this caliber of player will move on to the next thing. Unfortunately, this Alpha give the participants the opportunity to kill as many unarmed people as they want (as well as "force feed" them whatever is in their inventory); what other game gives these individuals the same satisfaction as this?

I would say that the devs have it set to a little overkill on the damage done to items in the inventory, but then again, I've never been shot while carrying cans of beans! However, from my mates who were shot IRL, I don't know many who lost ammo because of it! If I recall correctly, the mechanism was put in place to dissuade KoS and the like, so I'm not sure if the devs plan to retard the damage system on items in the inventory or not (due to damage taken). In this case, maybe they will at least reduce the NUMBER of items affected by being shot to one or two randomly per hit taken.
