Sorry, mate. I don't have a windows phone myself; I built it for what I use.

Announcing the first release of Bean Coast, a free map of DayZ for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad: http://beancoastapp.com/ I've put a whole lot of love into this app, as my goal is for it to be the best map to use as you play. It's got a high quality, zoomable map in multiple resolutions, and user-selectable POI markers for over 20 different types of buildings. You can search for any town or named landmark to jump straight to it, or use 6 digit grid references for other locations. One unique feature is the measurement tool, which gives you estimtes of travel time on foot for long distances, or a pretty accurate rangefinder when zoomed in. It's a free app, with no strings attached. Please try it out and let me know what you think! —vfig

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update
vfig replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Yes: remove it or fix it. At present it causes more problems that it’s worth: it respawns after being removed; it doesn’t stop zombies; it’s very hard (sometimes impossible) to remove when you have a toolbox. I don’t think it offers enough benefit at the moment to be worth all the problems. -
DayZ Map for Iphone (Or other mobiles) and your own server?
vfig replied to Skell (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're not using my app—it's still waiting for review (Apple dragging their feet, it's very frustrating). I've made very sure that my app works well on both retina and non-retina devices, and both iPhone and iPad. You can see a small preview of it here ("media pack" has bigger screenshots): http://beancoastapp.com/ -
I’ll offer you a single M107 round for them ;)

It’s doubtful whether you would get adequate performance with everything turned down. I suggest you install the free version of ArmA2, and see if you can get playable performance when running around in Chernarus. If you can, then DayZ will probably be playable (although it’s a bit more demanding on CPU).

I agree that flashlights need to be buffed, and NVGs/L85s need to be nerfed. Not sure total removal makes sense. If batteries are required for flashlights, NVGs, L85s, then there needs to be common batteries for flashlights, and rare batteries for the other equipment.

It depends on whether the moon is up, what phase the moon is in, and what the weather is like. A clear sky and full moon is very bright; overcast with a new moon (or before moonrise/after moonset) is very dark.

Attention: Rocket. Please review the DayZ server host rules.
vfig replied to Zoop's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I’m a player, not a server admin, but: Good communities require trust. I see from the long list of rules and the hive blacklisting that by and large the dev team do not trust server admins; and in return, server admins do not trust the dev team not to blacklist them for trying to run their own server sensibly (e.g. banning hackers and so on as discussed above). This has to change. To the dev team: you need good servers. You need to extend more trust to server admins in general, and empower them to make the right decisions for kicking/banning players from their server. There will be some rotten apples—and the hive blacklist obviously needs to remain to deal with them—but they will not be a majority. Start with a small group of server admins you know you can trust to responsible, and give them freer reign. Encourage them to nominate other admins they know to be responsible, and grow the “known good” group organically. But you have to start with an offer of trust, and revoke that when it is abused. It is much more tractable for you to identify and blacklist the abusive 10-20% of 1,000 servers than the abusive 10%-20% of 1,000,000 players. -
DayZ Map for Iphone (Or other mobiles) and your own server?
vfig replied to Skell (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I will indeed. My goal for the first version of the app was to have a top quality map, with markers showing useful landmarks and important buildings—the sort of thing a real map might show. So it doesn’t show vehicle spawns or loot probabilities—those would be aids for farming loot more than playing the larger game. It doesn’t show small residential buildings or sheds, mostly because there are far too many of them for it to be worthwhile. But it does show deer stands, military camps, apartment buildings, water sources, fuel tanks, hospitals, supermarkets, and so on. -
DayZ Map for Iphone (Or other mobiles) and your own server?

Good news for you on the iphone front: I've made a map app for iphone/ipad/ipod touch, which will be available free in the app store just as soon as it passes Apple's review. -
Disclaimer: what I'm proposing is probably completely unworkable given the current server hosting situation; it's no doubt well outside the scope of the mod; and it will definitely be unpopular with anyone who likes to play with their friends or clanmates (which includes me, btw). This is a crazy idea, but I find it fascinating to think about, so I'm posting it. You will probably hate this idea. DayZ death is not permanent in any particularly meaningful way. Once you've been playing for a couple of weeks, you'll very likely have a tent or a vehicle (or both) with extra gear stored in it, or even several such camps, especially if you've been playing with a group. So when you die, you lose only what you were carrying at the time. You might lose a couple of sweet items, but it's a relatively brief run to any part of the map to gear up back at your camp and carry on. And you know where all the deer stands and so on are along the way for a chance of more loot as you go. That's not death, that's just a small setback. Death should cost more. Every player should be scared stiff of dying in DayZ, not because they might lose their precious NVGs, but because they might lose everything they ever had. 1. Your character is permanently tied to a single server. 2. You are automatically assigned to the server, you do not get to choose it. 3. When you die, and respawn, your new character is on a different server. 4. Deer stands and tents (like those at Berezino and Stary Sobor) are at randomised positions, different on each server. With this, when you die, that's it! You start afresh. You can't run back to your camp, hook up with your buddies, or loot your old body, because your knowledge of all of those died with your previous character. You can't just do your habitual deerstand/Stary Sobor/Berezino run, because you won't know where the deer stands and military tents spawn. You will have to explore to find them. (Ideally the entire map would be unique to each server, but that's completely infeasible). You can't rely on having known friends you can trust from outside the game. If you want to team up, you have to make friends with other characters on that same server, and build trust with them. When you die, you will lose those friends forever. If your friend dies, he or she is lost forever, and your character will never see them again. That is permadeath.

Bad idea—we already get enough of those. That's always a possibility.

Either FIX zombie speed or REMOVE the knockdown
vfig replied to bjarnidk's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Pre-1.5.6 zombies could knock you down much more often regardless of your health. But that's been fixed. When you're healthy and a zombie hits you the vast majority of the time you'll lose a little blood, or start bleeding a little. Occasionally you'll bleed a bit heavier. On very, very rare occasions a zombie will get lucky and you'll go down. If you've only aggroed the one, you may still have a chance of surviving, but even if you don't: shit happens, especially in DayZ. Roll with it and roll a new character. -
I paid £25 for CO just to be able to play DayZ (not touched ArmA2 at all yet)—the same as I would pay for any new release AAA title at retail. I would be willing to pay the same again for the DayZ release; but would be very unhappy with any subscription pricing.
