It is my understanding, that OP actually meant nonPVP rather than PVE. You have to forgive him on that. -
But if you're carrying a gun on your back and another one in your hand, you loose one of them after disconnecting. I guess it should be possible to have a second gun in place of axe. You get to have more fire power but at a cost of no malee weapon.

Difference Between Cmags and Stag mags?

The only difference is that Stanags appear in regular (30rnd) version and coupled (60rnd) version. Cmags appear in 10rnd, 20rnd, 30rnd and 40rnd versions. Apart from that, they are all the same and you load both Stanag and Cmag with plain 5.56mm bullets. -
What's the difference between Regular & Hardcore?

Regular servers are under one hive, hardcore servers are under another hive. You get to have one character for a regular hive and a separate character for a hardcore hive. Clear? -

One thing that can help for sure is disabling shadows. -
Whether it's a gun case or whatever else, there should be some way of carrying another secondary weapon.

I don't know if it still applies after the last update, but before that, only tents set on a ground spawned loot. Ones with wooden floor didn't.

Keep in mind, that along the way there will be great number of different guns, both military and civilian types and you will find them all across the map

To be honest, I also bought Arma on Steam (from Bohemia Bundle) and had no problems playing Dayz, neither on it's own nor with Commander.

[NIGHT] missing textures // black / grey / night time

I have the same problem, even with low HDR and high gamma/bright. It is slightly better when I turn off shadows, but still all I see in the dark is one big splash of black and grey -
I think it's more then enough, that when you're dead or unconciouse, you can press ESC and see what's going on around. This way I could tell to my buddies that someone is looting my body.
