I shot myself a nice red deer, and now I have "Deer Steaks" in my inventory. Not raw deer steaks, just "Deer Steaks". If I build a fire and put them into it, they go from pristine to ruined in about 30 seconds. Item is still called "Deer Steak" when I take it out ruined. Ideas?

For anyone who used to play WoW out there, think about Booty Bay. It would be interesting to have a place on the map where you could trade items that you have for items that you need. I am thinking something similar to the NPCs I see in the videos from the mod. Perhaps you can trade medical supplies for ammo, or weapons for food, or clothes for water, etc. To borrow an idea from Metro 2033, ammunition could double as currency with its value depending on the quality. Instead of these areas turning on "god mode" for players as I have seen in some mod vids, players should instead remain fully vulnerable. It might be too much dev work to develop new AI, but it would be neat if instead of "god mode", these zones had enforcer type NPCs who hung around and engaged anyone in the area who injured another player. The enforcers would be well equipped, but still able to be killed and possibly looted by a well organized group of bandits. I think this could create an interesting setup for some pvp encounters, while at the same time providing a place to get what you need even if you are only able to scavenge food in a particular day for some reason. Thoughts?

Would you consider a neutral, or +0 value? I would apply this to a case where you were ignored completely, or only barely acknowledged. Granted, in DayZ not being killed is generally positive.

Yep! Step 1 - Drink til full Step 2 - Eat everything you find Step 3 - Repeat step 1 at every reasonable location

So America Must Have Had A Decent Presence In This Game

Im not in the military, but this is what I have always heard from someone who was. If the patch was on the person/vehicle's left side it would be facing the way that we are used to seeing it displayed. -
Neutral Trading Zones - NPC enforcers if possible
jprime84 replied to jprime84's topic in Suggestions
I do agree that it becomes more plausible for player controlled commerce to take place once it is made impractical to server hop. Right now there are too many ways to easily obtain equipment with relatively low risk to the player. If a group could manage to obtain a good deal of rare and/or interesting items that could not be obtained by bouncing through every empty server at NW airfield, I could see more interest. I still think that you would have to make yourself known through some meta source, unless some sort of in game global communication is established. Just like the medic groups out there - you have to contact them through teamspeak or forums to obtain their aid. Also, I never wanted lootable NPCs to exist. I've done enough farming to know I have no interest in that. -

This could be interesting, but with no way to communicate on a map wide scale, how would you advertise your little trading post? I guess I just cant imagine anything fully player regulated ever being something any other player would trust. Why trade food for ammo when you can just kill the guy and take everything? -

I dont see how you made that jump. -
Could they code such that the game will process anything picked up on a microphone as "direct communication"? People would hate this, but I bet its easily doable and doesnt require you to worry about whatever other apps they have running. If you dont want to make sound, you literally cant make sound, or you mute your mic.

Nice work - beans for you!

Really enjoyed these - subscribed! Despite the fact that you are coming out in the green, its still a pretty good point that there is little in between. Its almost a 40%/60% chance to be killed without a word, or have a decent chat.

So do people at your house tease you about your teamspeak dialogues?

My wife gave me a look at "Confirm: RV north of your lima in the treeline? Roger wilco. Be advised, eyes on possible hostile players 2 times in your AO" -
What would you do to survive a collapse of civilization?

I have an AR15 already. If I have learned anything from DayZ, then I already have a tool to get me everything else I need from other people. -
Alcohol tincture is NOT for drinking. You are poisoned.

I have read a few threads about what state someones character was in after the patch. The first few servers I tried to join just started me as a new spawn. I would assume this has to do with which hives those happen to be on. Eventually I got to a server that did have my character, but it was how he was several days ago (low health and no gun, unfortunately). I was simply wondering if anyone had been able to get their character back as it was the day before the update. It would make sense that if they pulled data backups from a few days before, then thats the best I can hope for.

I think you should RP what happened. Either wait it out til you die of dehydration, crawl back up to the same roof and jump off again, or just start yelling into direct chat until someone finds you and kills you!

Got on for about 15 minutes this morning, and my server only had a handful of people on it. I had logged off near Vybor, and I decided to take a look and see if it had been looted recently. The walkers around and the closed doors told me it hadnt, so I did a quick scan of the orange brick buildings with the archways, searching for the elusive mosin I had heard was the weapon of choice. In the last one I searched, there it is. I drop my M4, and grab up the mosin. I throw on my bayonet I have been carrying around, and I pull some 7.62mm out of my ammo box. I load up the rifle, but notice it only takes 1 round off the stack. Thinking maybe its going to make me load one round at a time (which if the rifle has an internal magazine that doesnt detach, thats what you would have to do), I try to load another. Nothing happens. Confused, I fire the gun. Works great, and now the round is gone, and I have to load another. Ugh. I decide that I like my automatic m4 with multiple 30 round magazines more, and I leave the thing on the floor and head back out into the woods before logging. The videos I have seen show the mosin being fired several times before reloading. Is this a recent change? side note: I blog about my characters experiences, so if you like dayz stories check out http://primedayz.blogspot.com/

This just is not true. In fact, it can be easier to see at night when there are no sources of artificial light. Your eyes very slowly can adjust to the light from the stars and moon, and you should have some visibility in wooded areas, and decent visibility in open areas. This would vary depending on cloud cover and the moon cycle, of course. I hiked in Peru in the evening on a clear night and I could easily find my way along the trail without any additional lights on. Colors will be next to impossible to distinguish, and going indoors (removing the natural light) should make it basically pitch black. Also, if you are next to a campfire or flashlight it should ruin your night vision as well since it takes your eyes time to adjust back.

Ammunition should be extremely rare
jprime84 replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I was going to say - I have a rifle chambered in 5.56 in my closet at home. There aren't mutually exclusive calibers for military and civilian purposes. -
I remember seeing the chambered option, so if I had clicked that, can I not then load additional rounds? I kept trying to load after chambering. Unless you have to load from the top - maybe thats it. I chambered a round and closed the bolt, removing the option to load further rounds. This is the most likely thing so far, as I have NOT been talking about the test build.

I tried to figure out a way to carry both, and was unable to.

I started up dayz and hit play. I didnt change server or anything, so perhaps they pushed the build to stable? Edit: I am pretty sure my rounds were not ruined. You have me second guessing myself now, unless the server I normally play on had the build pushed to it without me noticing. I will have to take another look. I was in a tough spot though! You can only hold one gun, and I am sitting in a town with my good rifle on the floor trying to figure out why the other rifle doesnt function how I would expect. I decided I spent enought time and got out of there.

Stuff has mass, yo! I was thinking to myself as I sprinted through the woods with a full camping backpack "wow, I must have hit the treadmill hard before the apocalypse". I suggest adding item weight as an attribute to items in the world. I realize that is somewhat managed now by how much space it takes up in the inventory, but mass and volume are different so why not account for both if going for realism? If someone wants to carry a large amount of things, I would have it either affect their maximum speed, or their rate of energy and water consumption. This creates a system where lighter weight foods and equipment can be more valued, instead of just bringing anything you find in one bag. If someone chooses to run and gun lightly equipped, they can be rewarded with higher mobility. You could maybe even reduce the zombie aggro radius for them or something because they would be stealthier. Once bases or loot drop sites are implemented, their use would be increased by having an encumbrance system. It becomes essential to drop some of your stuff off once in a while to retain mobility. Anyways, just an idea that hopefully wouldn't complicate development deadlines too severely

I didnt realize it had been employed in a mod. might make it easier to model
