    No Surrender types

I hear ya about real-life and submitting for good reason. But this is a game and its the bullyboy aspect that has emerged that I have a bigger issue with. Give them nothing, they'll be better real life people for it.

You've thrown me m8, I'm promoting the opposite as I think the whole victim/bully thing is infinitely worse than a simple KOS.

    No Surrender types

But would you submit to someone who had the drop on you and you were unarmed?

You are hardcore. Serious business. I KOS btw, I'd rather you did 2, better than being whipped like a bitch.

Children shouldn't play lots of games, but they do, just reality. PEGI and parental issues are a whole other story which I'm not in a position to comment on thankfully.

    [FORUM] Experimental Feedback section

LOL cheers man, I tend to be on my guard on these forums, seems to have more than it's fair share of little jumped up forum nazis thinking they are forum mods. I mistakenly tarred you with the same brush. I wonder would a Mod be kind enough to move this to the Dayz Sa suggestions section.

    [FORUM] Experimental Feedback section

Meant to post this in the Dayz SA suggestions section but I'm having one of those days. I sense sarcasm in the 2nd post but my sarcasm powers are low today.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

Whats the point of this thread so? What do you want to discuss? Or is it just you making a statement in your opening post?
  9. Are our characters from Chernarus? Them spawning on the beach could imply they washed up there. (I'm just trying to justify using external maps, coz if my char is Chernorussian, then he'd know his way about and an external map simulates that)
  10. I found a UN beret last night, but then I got killed before I could have a right look at it. The UN's presence can explain why american weaponry and equipment is present, along with virtually any other foreign military equipment they choose to add in the future.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

There is a certain amount of gaming reality that has to be considered due to how it limits in-game realism. Gamers use various forms of VOIP, it will always be this way. Designing a game that simply ignores this fact is ludicrous, why they are putting in radios just baffles me.

    Reaction On Dying

'I'm never playing this stupid game again' after staring blankly at the 'you are dead' screen for about 30seconds. Starts a new character the next day.

    Camp Fires and Storing Items?

#1 ... Campfires don't work yet as far as I know #2 ... Servers reset every 4 hours, so even if your loot didn't despawn it would be gone the following day anyway.

Anybody wish the SA was never released?

Hey, I'm not arguing with you man. Maybe you're right. But I'll give you an example, 3pp and All day servers are likely to become the norm because thats what the majority seem to want based on the fact that those kinds of servers are always full. Is that what Dean wanted? Maybe his vision of the game is far more realistic and hardcore, I dunno what he wants but it gets irrelevant. The dev team could spend a load of time fixing 'night' so that people can't gamma exploit and it's a level playing field but if 80% of players are only playing daytime servers and don't care about nighttime issues. Would that be wasted dev time, would the majority not be moaning that time is being wasted on issues that they don't care about and stuff they do care about is not getting the attention they expect. If they then stopped playing would that change Deans priorities? BTW, I'm playing devils advocate here a bit. I hope Dean doesn't pander to the will of the majority, I'm just saying its very hard to resist those pressures.

    The DayZ Facts of Life

Careful lads, there's only 463 gigabytes of empty internet space left and apparently these kind of threads are wasting it. I ate a very black over-ripe banana yesterday, it was quite sweet and mushy but I didn't die.

Anybody wish the SA was never released?

Not sure if you are referring to me tbh, but I'll assume you are. I'm merely pointing out that when a community goes through a huge transition and expansion that the game development is likely to reflect that and is likely to greatly dis-satisfy the original players, in this case its the mod players who will feel that their game has been taken from them and is likely going to go in a different direction than they had hoped. What was once a cool free mod is now a commercial enterprise than must stand on it own financial feet, this is highly likely to compromise the purity of the game and greatly disappoint the original core players of the mod as the demands of a more mainstream audience gets pandered too. While I am not a mod player and merely a recent blow in, I can totally sympathize with the original mod players and how they are likely to feel more and more marginalized as the months roll on.

Anybody wish the SA was never released?

I can offer a precedent from a different gaming franchise that is and continues to go through a similar transition. Planetside - very niche MMOFPS, played by a minority who dearly loved its eccentricities, about since 2003, largely abandoned by Sony with a very very strong focus on teamwork. Planetside 2 comes along, the community is very excited but it quickly becomes apparent that its a much more mainstream game and aimed squarely at the Battlefield audience. The original community become shouty and aggressive due to the perceived bastardization of their beloved franchise, the dumbing down of the game and the extreme focus on unlocking shit ala BF3 and CoD. The new community starts to refer to the old community as 'bittervets' and they slowly become marginalized and the much larger new community becomes the loudest. Now Planetside 2 is about unlocking weapons, pimping them out with skins and decals, kill death ratios and the vast majority couldn't care less how their faction is faring as long as they're getting a good kill ratio. Many of the original Planetside players have quit and moved on. The Dayz community seems to be going through a similar transition however Dean seems to intend to stick to his vision which is good for now as it was apparent that SOE had no vision really and just saw a franchise that they could milk for as much money as possible. Hopefully Dean will stick to his vision for as long as possible, but he will find himself having to compromise things here and there I fear as the audience becomes more mainstream and want everything handed to them on a plate. There is a terrible word that starts getting used when a mainstream audience swarms in on a game, it's 'accessibility' which I interpret as dumbing down every component of a game so that some whiney 12 year old can figure it out in a few seconds and he can 'own' elite veteran players because he's been gifted so many skill compensators to level the playing field.
  19. 1. Are all servers that have a night cycle hardcore servers and vice versa. 2. Is a day night cycle 24 hours long? 3. Are there permanent night servers? 4. Is the day/night cycle synchronized to the actual night cycle where the server is hosted?

    N00b Questions about Night servers

I did search my pedantic friend but I found no coherent answers to the 4 questions I posed. So I wrapped up my 4 questions in a nice little bow and dropped them in a post in General. I generally avoid the 'new player' sections as in my experience they are only read by new players, perhaps this is not the case here, but I don't know yet, coz like you I only registered on these forums a few days ago too. Now if some bitter type is eager to condescend some more, I'd be grateful if they showed me where in fact my questions are answered already, coz that would make you feel like a big forum boss man and I'd have the answers I seek. We all win.

    N00b Questions about Night servers

You seem to be operating on the assumption that I'm complaining about night servers and their prevalence since the patch. I suggest you go smoke some of that weed you have supposedly mastered as I merely asked 4 simple questions. Terribly terribly offensive questions, but then I did put N00b in the subject bar to warn of poor beleaguered chaps like yourself who carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. In other news, go fuck yourself. Thanks to those that answered.
  22. On any given play session of 2 or 3 hours I'll have to jump servers 3 or 4 times due to getting the red text and the timer. I'm not complaining, as I'm aware of the status of the game, just merely wondering if this is currently normal or if I have some kind of exceptional issue. It's quite tense if I happen to be in a city at the time as I have to log back in on a new server and have no idea what I'll be up against. This can be made easier by jumping to an empty server initially, finding a quite spot and login out and back into a populated server again. The whole process gets pretty tedious however and I lose all sense of whats goin on around me regarding player traffic. If its a server stability issue, fair enuf, no doubt it will get resolved in due course.
  23. I suspect it might be, hopefully they'll add server announcements at some point to ease my paranoia. I'm guessing it doesn't take more than 2 minutes to restart a server? Next time it happens I'll go have a coffee and see if I can rejoin same server.
