    Actually, in standalone, we may get core improvements that were not possible with just the mod - like better hacking protection and netcode tailored for DayZ.

    I found a motorbike in the woods, laying on its side. Looked around, there was nobody so I went check it out. As I was leaning to it, some dude in a ghillie suit spawned RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. The funny part is he was turned away from me, and I just clicked middle mouse button to check the bike. Instead, I began opening his backpack, and before the animation finished he turned around and shot me. Must have shit his pants, I don't blame him.

    Agreed! I made this way 2 awesome friends from ze Germany :) And mintes ago, I (friendly when not fired on) was attacked by one guy, he took a shot at me, hit me once. By zigzaging I managed to get into the forest. He followed me, I lost him in the trees, circled around and killed the sucker with my AKM. My first succesful defense against bandit. My heart was beating like never, and I could hardly hold the mouse in my hand! Never got this intense in any game 8-)
