Streaming last night on http://www.twitch.tv/bashurverse, about 500 people saw Bashur almost pee himself while being mauled by the horde. DayZ is a mod built on a military simulation engine. The WHOLE POINT is realism, ie: getting as close to believability as possible in a virtual engine. That doesn't mean there can't be zombies. Perhaps you've never played the game that DayZ is based on: ArmA 2. If not, you should, it is far from an office life simulator and has no zombies. And the zombie apocalypse is not real...yet. So far this is the best training tool available. :cool: OP: The randomness of the ArmA 2 engine affords a lot of scenarios where you can survive several shots, return fire and win the fight, patching yourself up afterwards. My team and I ran head first into another group moving toward us through a forest. We engaged at about 50 meters. There were 3 of them and 4 of us. They engaged first, and one of them had an M240, which took out two of us almost instantly. Our rear guard/squad sniper didn't have eyes on them and took cover as rounds snapped past him. Luckily, I was on the flank and they hadn't seen me. I managed to take the machine-gunner out and his buddy with my M4 before the third guy saw me. We had a stand-off behind trees til I popped smoke to distract him, enveloped the other direction and killed him. So we won, with two guys alive and all of them dead. It was the most adrenaline-pumping situation I'd been in since playing DayZ. It was amazing. If you take away instant or near-instant death kills the surprise and fear from the game is greatly diminished, making it far less compelling.

Doesn't make any sense. Permadeath keeps the game scary. I've played both Darkfall and Xyson and I don't want to see the nonsense game-y aspects of those show up here. It's not just a sandbox, it's a milsim.

As long as the regeneration is painfully slow (like 1 blood every 10 seconds) and stops regen-ing when you drop below 6k blood, I would support this.

1. Counterstrike is no better than COD when compared to Arma. 2. Proof? Without knowing how long he's survived or you've survived how do you know? 3. Clearly most people would agree with anything that makes the game easier for them. There is no "need" represented here. 4. No you don't, you make sacrifices. That's a big part of this game's challenge; you have to make tough decisions. I sacrificed my Mk48 with 5 mags for a more efficient M4A1 CCO SD and 14 mags of Stanag SD. It comes out to approximately the same round count taking up more slots, but the SD ammo is more efficient against both zeds and other players. I sacrificed my nocs for NVGs and Rangefinder. You don't need more space than the Large Coyote affords. You can do a lot with a 24 slot bag. I usually carry my SD M4 on hand with at least 9 mags, G17 with 6 mags, and a DMR with 6 mags in my pack, along with enough food, water and meds to last me for a good few hours, but since those are common items I'm all good. 5. You've never played a game and you somehow know that it is "terribad?" I'm not a fan of Diablo but at least try it for yourself before passing judgement. 6. Again, another supposed fact with no proof. Now you're just trying to antagonize. In case anyone is unclear, I don't support this. You already have enough pockets, slots and pack space (assuming you've found the 24-slot coyote) for any situation. Be smart, make decisions, and you'll be fine. Nobody needs more slots than you can already potentially have.

Senseless player killing/non-pvp servers?

I think the removal of the bandit skin will alleviate this naturally, without the need for an overtly game-y system. No longer will bandits be shot on sight for being bandits and no longer will they shoot on sight for fear of being shot on sight by both bandits and survivors alike. You can't account for the genuine psychos out there but most people only kill for survival. Sometimes your survival depends on another's demise... -

Not sure if this is a typo or not, but regardless this is my new term for fast zombies. ZOOMbies! There have a been a few issues where, there were about ten of us in the firehouse at NW airfield and zeds were spawning faster than we could kill them. I think the spawn rate doesn't just detect player presence, but scales to the number of players in the area. We eventually had to run North into the wilderness since we were in danger of running out of ammo. 10 people with full packs almost ran out of ammo. You can imagine the area around the firehouse looked insane with bodies. As much as I don't really like anything that makes the game "easier" I think this would add to the immersion and realism factors more than the ease-of-play.

You can actually crawl backwards into a tent through the opening. Great ambush spot. Would be good if you're inside it if it stopped your temp from going down.

I shot a bandit in the back of the head TWICE with a CZ, he managed to run off the roof of a hospital, get bandaged by his friend and get away. That said, I think the randomness of the ballistics actually adds to the realism. You can still survive being shot in the head in reality so the "head-shots always kill" from other games just seems too certain in many ways. However, I've rarely been shot by a CZ more than once without instantly dying. I think the system is in good shape at the moment.
