This Game is Being Advertised as an MMO Right? Char Bound to Server.
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to gjhook's topic in Suggestions
Nah, I don't wanna answer that. ...the flaw of logic is strong in here. In-deed. Coke and Hoes. We now that! http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/169165-the-most-profoundly-important-question-ever-asked-to-rocket/?p=1717965 -

IDs only for Zombies...and only for some randomns. In a wallet, together with totally useless cash, also useless creditcards, store-patron-cards and pre-apocalyptic photos with e.g. their wife and children. -
And this thread was brought to you by the main sponsor of the DayZ Forum: "I can't use the freakin' search function and post in one of the 500 other threads that exist to this topic" Inc. This discussion has been made...I think 20 times at least, maybe more...quick search and just copy/paste the results.... http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/169482-players-name http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/168804-other-players-names http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/172954-is-there-going-to-be-a-feature-to-tagg-people-as-friendly/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/173179-id-study-body http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/169537-should-player-names-be-added http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/167810-items-my-dayz-standalone-ideas/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/166664-list-of-features-that-would-be-nice-to-have/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/166533-dean-you-like-detailshere-they-are/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/164943-player-badges/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/164044-reconize http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156669-the-game-needs-nametags ...i stopped there, not because there were no more results, but I wasn't caring to click on page 3 of the search results...

Couple of questions and my opinion
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to ld-airgrafix's topic in New Player Discussion
Sight. They have a cone of sight, so you can walk up to them if they turn their back to you, but they will spot you from some 100 metres if they look into yopur direction. The Mele system is terrible at the moment, especially for some weapons, which do not hit where you aim, like the baseball bat. Use one of these...they hit where you aim at: a fire axe (one-hit-kill) or a splitting axe (2 hit kill). If you don't find one of these use a fire extinguisher...looks silly, but it hits where you aim at and you can kill Zombies with it if you get used to it (aim slightly above the head - Zombie goes down - keep hitting, when the Z stands up again, one more hit to the head should kill it). No global inventory. Eat everything you find immedeatly until you get the "energized" or "stuffed" status. -
Stop eating so much beans. Srsly: Pants seem to be the first item that gets ruined. Always. But without ANY interaction? Haven't encountered that by now... BUT if nothing happens to you and their status still gets worse, please file a bug report....

How much authenticity is too much?
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Well about the I was thinking NOT about knives stuck in your brain, when I read that (and I think monk did also not mean it that way)...I was thinking more like open cuts because the skull is a real hard thing. Sure there are points (like the eye...or directly in the mouth...or from the bottom up the lower jaw etc. where a stab is fatal, but e.g. a stab frontal against the forehead on a standing person (head goes back with the force, angle changes to the worse etc.)? I don't think it would crack it open until you are really (un)lucky... Gunshots to the limbs fatal...you're right, but at this point i think it's ok to assume that they miss the arteries everytime - here's where i'd draw a line to autenticity... -
How much authenticity is too much?
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
@Lady Kyrah: Yeah, that was the point of the thread... I feel you, Valadain -.- I bought Chivalry MW some months ago because I heard it had the best melee combat system...yeah, that might eb (I don't wanna start a fight about that here), but to me (maybe only to me) it still felt far away from something I'd call plausible, authentic or just...hm...well I couldn't "feel" it. And I know a lot of FPS (especially online fps) with horrific melee...but that doesn't mean that DayZ should also go there ;) Sure, a system like Chivalry has is too much (because the whole game was built around that) compared to DayZ, but...well look back at monkfishs post, the things he mentioned plus a better collision detection (+distance, +way weapons are handled (different ways to swing, stab, cut etc.)) would be nice... But I want to go back to 2 of the - in my opinion - most fitting posts: ...to which I totally agree. And, as mentioned above: ...so, what do you think? Could monkfishs system work? Or should it be changed? And what about LeChats suggestions? Something like "Authentic" crafting sounds awesome to me, but how do youn handle it? 1) Find a shovel 2) Dig like a maniac in the ground until its smooth and deep enough for a fundament 3) find concrete, a water supply (or carry 50 canteens there...), the earth you digged out, something to mix it in and stir it up (use your mosin for better results ;)) 4) put concrete in hole 5) Put the the corner posts... in it before it drys out (and add old parts of iron fences to make ferroconcrete ;)) ....and you have a foundation. with posts. And now you could start building something really simple on it...like a very simple house... Or just gather trunks (carry them alone? nah...) and build a log cabin on the earth? ;) -
The "need to differenciate Heroes and Bandits" topic - suggestion
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
Yes. I mean, if you are a sniper and on a KoS trip. Otherwise no. Just wear a orange raincoat and a orange boonie (when they reach stable) and see how it works out. And were the other 50 threads about this topic not good enough for you? -.- -
How much authenticity is too much?
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Dathlove: Yeah and I hope that this will be implemented. And I liked the statement the No More Room In Hell creators made regarding zombie children...i'll paste it here: and I think this words could be used 1:1 by the DayZ devs.... -
Yes, there is too much ammo atm. But that's perfectly normal for this stage, because how should we be able to test weapons/damage/health system/medic system if ammo was rare? And that's what we do atm: Testing to find bugs, glitches, exploits, make suggestions etc. (and yes, this was an eloquent way to say :"Alpha." I'll just explain it from now on instead of one-wording it.) As the OP stated: This tiem 7.62 is so common because the SKS got introduced. I don't say have patience or wait or something like that, just remember why you play (=test) the game now. I'm pretty sure, ammo will be very rare in some months...at least as rocket stated that all military weapons will be super-rare when the "improvised weapons" (throwing, bows, etc.) get introduced...

How much authenticity is too much?
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
@Corto: Well I think a "suicide" option should be made possible (if you have a gun...or at least a knife), if players want to avoid to cure such things/stick it out, but in my opinion the game would only become better with such a level of realism (Weather/temperature+clothes+no campfire etc. affect health by sickness) And yeah you are right:, my example with "getting a cold" was not correct, and you are right, in your example these symptoms should be ignored..but if your character starts to sneeze he can be in danger when a Zombie hears it...or another survivor...And how about more serious sickness' like the flu (not the common cold)? High fever, tired, body's aching etc.? May lead to pneumonia and that shit is dangerous... @Monkfish: I think that's a pretty good raw pattern. I like that idea...beans for you, good Sir ;) @Valadain: Totally with you on that one. @Gews: While you are right (damn, I say this far too often to you...you'll get megalomania if I don't watch out ;)), I think there's the line between realism and authenticity / too much of something: You normally don't get shot that often. And if, chances are big that you'll not survive. If you get shot, you don't just put a dirty patch on it and you're fine because you ate 3 cans of beans. That's the gameside. And the authenticity side is contrary to this. It has to stay at a level that makes fun, as Monkfish pointed out: You should not spend 6 ingame weeks with a broken leg, even if it would be realistic... As far as bullets go: If its not a lodged one, badging (or maybe even stitching?) should do it for the game. If lodged, you maybe should remove it (maybe a calculation where it is lodged and if that's a place where it causes pain/handicaps movement/is dangerous?)...or have somebody remove it for you...knife, sewing kit, alcohol, tweezers...whatever. But sharpnels of a bullet, even if realistic: too much in my opinion... @mgc: Well...put all that stuff on hardcore servers and leave the reguklars as they are ;) @Deathlove: Yeah, that would be too much...^^ -

I know that you didn't meant "Second Life" - that fix was just a joke (look at my avatar... ;)) See, there's the difference: I'd find it absolutely awesome if let's say: It start's raining, maybe within autumn (who knows if we get to see seasons or not?)...it's cold, wet, i don't have a raincoat because I'm all TTsKO/Assault Vest. My chars clothes get wet (the clothes already have a "Damp" status when they get wet) because of that, and since I don't come to a fireplace (or make one myself) or come in a house within the next 20 minutes, he starts sneezing and gets the cold, needs medicine, his hands are shaking, he's slower...whatever fits in here. And if you don't treat it, it might get worse until the point where the char dies... -
Will they make any of the zombies faster than us?
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
Answer to the OP: Unknown by now. Probably. ^this. And since falling damage is already computed (well..."computed"...there are some errors in it I think... ;)) according to the weight (as far as I have read it), I think chances are good that a stamina system or at least running speed that is slowed by the amount of things you carry will be made.. -
You meant... ...sry, couldn't resist. But I'm pretty sure the Devs do not read the general discussion. Maybe some of them glance into the suggestions, but I'm not sure of that either, and I totally understand this. 95% of the threads are either whining (and I really mean whining, like complaining about known stuff without wanting an answer and how bad it ruins the experience and they want a refund, but are not open for a discussion etc. pp.) or BS (like bragging about kills - who cares?) or about a topic that has been talked about at least in 20 different threads. Sometimes all of these things at once. And even IF a thread is NOT meant that way, you can bet your ass that there will be a useless discussion breaking out about some BS and the thread will be derailed. So, yeah, if I was on the dev team, i wouldn't read the posts here either and for sure not comment on them. Hell, be lucky that I'm not a mod, because i wouldn't be so friendly like orlok or the others - You'd see just sites and sites of closed threads with "Already discussed here: <link>" or "Not a discussion. File a bug report / vote this bug report that covers this problem <link> up" etc. etc. Oh and don't get me started on the search function... If you want to talk to the devs you have 3 options: Mail them directly.Write them on twitter (and hope for a lucky strike)Make a post on reddit (if it gets upvoted enough the devs answer there normally) Edit: Sry for then rant. With "you" i did not mean anyone of you at all. Well maybe you, the guy who is reading it now. Yeah, you. Stop staring. Log in and play. And then file a bug report. Or write a suggestion. Or start a useful discussion that hasn't been there. Or help a new player in the new player discussion. Without derailing, repeating or calling names.

LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
fixed that for you. But srsly: Where do you see that border between "Authenticity=fun" and "it becomes a second life?" More authentic wounds and damage? More authentic medication/surgery/infection? Or by the need for sleep ? -
@General Zod: Yeah, wasn't online earlier, sry ;) @Crooked: Ah, sry, didn't know that. Thought you didn't know about the multiquote thing^^ But even if I die a lot (I'm to naive-friendly for this game ;)) and have to start over and over again because of this, I don't have a problem to outrun Zeds...just don't care about buildings, put your fists up and sprint in a straight line. After some time (30 secs? maybe a little more) you've lost the Zed usually... Edit: Why the heck is "Slopestyle" olympic?

How much authenticity is too much?
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Since the Devs are writing there and not here (and I can totally udnerstand that - if retarded posts would kill, this forum would be a damn silent place) I read the Dayz sub... And the 10/22...well...we'll see how many of them will be left when DayZ hits beta...and how many Steyr Augs (I'm from Austria. Our guns. And btw. awesome guns. But far too expensive normally... ;)) but that wasn't the point of the thread, neither Miley Cyrus (but if you see her, tell her she should stop that creepy, tongue-thing and let her hair grow again and....well...wear something that is not less faishonable than the average lady gaga outfit.) OK, stop, no more ranting.... I like the idea of more realism, but I can just point to LeChats post *points up*, he said what I was thinking on this topic as well. Oh an Ricks post as well about the...let's call it...experimental (we hope so) damage system... -
There's an edit button, which lets you, and here it comes, edit your posts so you don't have to make doubleposts. And if you want to quote more than one person in your answer, there is a "Multiquote" button on their posts. Click it on the first, click it on the second, click "Reply" on the lower right of your screen and you are set ;) With that being said, onwards to the topic (with a strange screenshot, that I may have seen before ;)) The answers to the OPs question ("Why are more zeds being added when they are clearly broken ?") were given more than once, I'll try a different manner: Because the Zombie AI, which is part of the problem, is still under construction (since months) and one of the really challenging things, the 'AI' that is implemented now is only a placeholder, for this reason it won't be tweaked anymore. The other part of the problem is that the number of Zombies is only limited by the Software, since its optimization is an ongoing process there will always be a "jump" in the number of Zombies, whenever it is possible for the server to handle, same goes for the total amount of loot. So, while it is worked on the AI, which also includes the wall glitch, other parts of the team work on the optimisation, leading to a greater number of Zeds. I don't try to defend the devs or everything they do, I'm just a programmer myself and I try to understand what they are doing and why and how.... And: "erat". One r.

Yeah. You don't wanna miss 1st person and you don't want to have other people use the 3rdP exploiting while you are in 1pv. And because you deserve it for giving me that haunting melody...suffer: ...do you understand, do you feel the saaaaame, am I only dreaming

Let me tell a very angry tale.
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to maxotaur's topic in General Discussion
Reduced falling damage is a bit*h, ya know? ;) And in that time you could have run from Balota to to NWAF...not to mention, from any spawnpoint to Berezino....twice. -
1.) Yes 2.) No 3.) If thirsty and want to see your doc again. additional: As long as you don't feel the need to handcuff a randomn person and force them to drink it, you're fine.

Server hopping has gotten worse. (actuall analysis, not a whine thread)
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
Afaik: A server restart will not help in any way, because the loot will be dynamically spawn after some time. The loot will not respawn within 10 minutes (or the old bubble system from the mod), if i remember correctly, rocket came up with something like a dynamic time-table for loot (can't find it now...somewhere on reddit or twitter....hmm...), where loot respawns after a changing time (but I think also the minimum was much more than 10 minutes), to prevent loot-cycling, also that frequently looted places may get a counter, so that the timespan between spawn in these places will be higher...hmmmmm...no, can't find it now, sorry, so take this not as an official quote, just babbling from LJ. -
Well....add servers where you can play (and have a good ping etc.) to your favorites. When you got like 10 there, you shouldn't have this problem anymore... I know, waiting sucks, and I have been in your shoes already (Server restart followed by 3 crashes to desktop within 10 minutes. yay, 3 times full waiting time -.-), but it happens - the devs are constantly working on optimisation and maybe, sooner or later, this problem will be gone... But if you got kicked by an admin of that server: This is forbidden by the rules and you should report that server...

Nice idea. Brought up many times...please search before posting (I don't try to be some kind of forum police here, but some ideas got like 20 threads, so some good and unique ones go down to pages where no one ever looks...)...just from the first pages of the search results: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/166782-shoulder-your-dude/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/165308-more-interactions-with-players/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/169975-carrying-survivors-with-broken-bones/

Good idea, wrong subforum....take it there: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/forum/128-suggestions/ ...hm...or just wait until one of the mods wakes up ;) And I think that specific idea hasn't been mentioned...but I'm too lazy to search now ;) But some similar ideas (like breaking up locked doors with an axe or lockpicking them, even how to tear down a wall/ a hole in a wall... etc.)
