Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
...since I have this nice little thread called "Summary of dev Q&As from streams" http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/175596-summary-of-dev-qas-from-streams/ you can be pretty sure I watched most of them (well not the eurogamer one. I just listened to it. 144p? I mean, 1995 called, they want their resolution back...where was I?), not because I'm a Dean Hall fanboy, but I like to be informed and know what's going on and what's coming... But while I saw that he is not used to play it a lot and is not up to date with some bugs (like "What do you mean these houses don't have loot? All houses should have loot." or "Painted firexes? I thought they were in already.") I don't think that you can sugegst from that that he did close to nothing... That made me actually laugh^^ Edit: Damn I forgot my usual quotes in this thread: -

LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Mh no, not as far as I know. I don't even have a crown or a scepter... And I'm not a fanboy, I hope, I just try to reason and think about things being said...and I get annoyed if people are shouting out "facts" that they obviously made up. If you did not made up these things, my apologies, but please present a source for this... -

LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
God, I hope you are being sarcastic here, otherwise I would have to state that you are an idiot for telling "facts" that you made up. I don't know how much he did for DayZ, and I don't know if or how much he copied from Mods that used another engine, but stating that he just did this is...well...idiotic if you don't know it. Or maybe you're a programmer at BI and know it and are telling internas? In that case you'd better also look out for a new job... Did you know....Civ2, which si said to be the best part of the series, was made without Sid Meier? O.O And that the other games were made by Firaxis, a company founded by Meier? And, once again, Dean Hall is just an employee at BI. NOT the owner. Not the CEO. Not the janitor. And....Really? Maybe it would have been the same thing, just without an early access alpha but an internal alpha, where rocket leaves when it hits beta and gets released? Just a thing to think about... Edit: Yeah indeed. He has been working on it now for...what was it? 1 1/2 years? Maybe more? And he will work another year now on it (or even more if needed), before he goes home, which he wanted a year ago? I'll just wait until he really leaves and see what happens then....but as long as BI not cuts down the Dev them with his leave, it shouldn't be too hard... -

Are you on crack? What should they do? Give it away for free? Don't sell it? I don't even... I'll just continue to quote this -
"Flawed Concept" - Discuss
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to blissfulkunt's topic in General Discussion
It IS unprofessional to say something like this, but well, rocket is not a good PR guy, sicne he is too honest and direct and sometimes his wording is a little bit...let's called it unclear. Maybe this guy on reddit is right: -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Because rocket owns DayZ. Oh no, wait, he doesn't. DayZ is still Bohemias property and Dean hall is a developer currently employed there. That means that a) They could fire him b)shut down DayZ if they wanted to, withou him being able to do anything against it (unless his contract says otherwise, which I don't think it does) c)he is (yeah hard to believe) allowed to resign if he wants. And since this can't be quoted enough: Overly attached DayZ community is overly attached: -

LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Edit, because some people did not realise this: He will leave at the earliest in 10 month and not even that is set in stone if there are major problems. So it is NOT like "he took our money and ran". And it's not like that after that, the Arma developers will get DayZ as additional project, I think. It will be more like that someone of the already existing "50++" people in the DayZ team will make the project leader. I only hope he answers what he meant with that: ...Zombies, maybe?^^ -

LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Wow. Some answers in this thread sound like Dean announced that he murdered your family. It is perfectly normal that you leave a job, especially, if you work aboard and want to go home. Happens all the time, I've heard. That Dean gives a notice nearly a year before, is just, well, unusual. Normally you hear it the day they stepped down, but well, Mr. Hall seems always to be direct and honest. Maybe a little bit too much for some people. -

Dean is too honest sometimes... Well, I understand him. I have worked 3 years away from my home and in the end I just wanted to go back. And additionally.... ....at least that sounds familiar. You Sir, are a monster.^^ -
can we get a statement on bases and vehicles ETA.
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
....ok.......I did not said that you are whining or that you are impatient. In fact, I just tried to give you answers to all the points you mentioned as far as I know them/I can guess. I also would love to have the devs Roadmap but it has been made in mid january afaik and has not been released to the public afaik. But there are a lot of things that you can find out... But since you don't click on links it seems (otherwise you would have seen some things in the posts I linked, that are "game changers" or "of real relevance" and that come next) : i'll just paste some here: Persistent storage: Goes this week on internal testing, so may be in experimental in 2 weeks (roughly estimated, more or less depending on gamebreaking bugs found there)Hunting, Cooking and Crafting up next for major implementation. That means that there are as many people as possible working on these complex tasks. Some of it is already in the game (like the courier backpack, sewing kit). Other things are already running in internal (parts of cooking which will affect sooner or later the whole health system)Complete overhaul of the health system is worked on at the momentMore Zombies+respawning zombies: Also already on internal, maybe tweakedGoes together with server performance (the better the performance, the more Zs and loot)Respawning Loot is worked onZombie wall glitch is one of the highest priority tasks (and as mentioned goes hand in hand with the AI of the undead bastards^^)....these are all tasks that are worked on with higher priority and, as far as I read/heard it, will be in withing the next couple of updates. And for sure, I will have missed some things. Like the weather affecting clothes ->affecting health etc.. Or weight based stamina+running system. Or like Bow+Arrows. Or physics. Or ragdolls... -

LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
Sometimes I think my posts are invisible...or maybe they are to fitting and would end a discussion? Or...I don't know...maybe too long? Or are you afraid of my avatar? Whatever: A concern that is good to be stated. Even if you could argue like you did that all the "not hardcore dayz players are not welcome" (which is BS, we all were not-hardcore-dayz-players at some point...), and that the alpha warning said something like "Don't buy this game except you want to help develop it", to keep a larger playerbase would be nice. But the comign key features are mentioned here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/ Ok, I understood that sentence (I hope, if I'm wrong, apologies) : Even if they made 1 Billion, it would not had speeded up development at this point. They did hire additional staff, but you can't just hire 10 programmers, place them in chairs and tell them:"Go, 5 of you make performance optimization, the other 5 kill that zombie wall glitch" - they would destroy more than they would repair, it would take ages to get a result and in the end it would be worse. You have to introduce them slowly, sho them the whole concept, show them, what is worked on by whom, what is already in the making and how things are connected. And the worst part: they have to get to know the database. Oh my, how did I hate that. You can't program properly if you don't know the core datatabases by heart and know how it might change. So, short: Additional staff hired: Yes. Will speed up development: In a big project the (very) rough estimation is from one month to three month until a newly hired programmer is working productive. Additionally, it's impossible to have any amount of people work on a complex task, because they will stand in each others way, it will make it even more complex... Well....no. It's not that way (I hope^^) why some things get implemented earlier than others has 3 main reasons: 1) What is possible to make with the code that is already existing 2) what is a precondition for something else (like crafting is an absolute essential before having vehicles) 3)priorites set by the devs. And this 3rd point is the least important one in a programming project. Again: That's what you believe. I'd say bases would come out top or even hunting before vehicles. Maybe even something else like Physics or improvised weapons.. And also IF it would come on top with 100%, it wouldn't mean that the devs COULD do it faster. (look at the previous answer for details.) And again, please read these threads: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/175596-summary-of-dev-qas-from-streams/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/174639-interview-with-dean-hall-in-the-latest-pc-gamer-summerized/?hl=interview%2B Because it is possible with the code that is already in. POSSIBLE does not mean "fast", "easy" or "without problems". Just that it won't cause as much work as other vehicles will make. And programming a placeholder would take time - time a programmer could use to implement something that is useful in the future and won't get thrown away. Remember: Alpha. That means, they will not use placeholders as far as it is possible, instead they will focus on things that can be used in the future as well. I really don't know how long it would take to insert "placeholder cars" (like: just spwaning, never need gas, other parts just driving around) but I'm pretty sure that a) it would take some time b) players would not be happy about that solution and c)they would be annoyed ifn they would hear that the team spent time on something that will be useless soon... -
Hm...hard to answer for me, since I don't write the lifespans of my characters down... On the one hand, I play carefully, observte every area before I enter it, track player movements and avoid them if they look hostile and know the usual sniper spots good enough to check them before I go somewhere, on the other hand I'm too freindly-naive (speaking with people, never shoot first, help if they ask for it etc.) for this game, a missing KoS attitude on top and that's the recipe for most of my deaths ;) So...well soe echars lived ~20 hours because I don't met somebody that betrayed/KoSd me, some only 1 or 2...so all together I'd say somewhere around 15 hours maybe more, maybe less...

LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to dgeesio's topic in General Discussion
Check that post: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/175596-summary-of-dev-qas-from-streams/?p=1796311 I'll paste the important things: 6 Month is a very conservative estimation for vehicles, rocket expects them much soonerhunting, cooking, crafting will come in before vehiclesvehicles will come after these things are in, starting with bicyclesVehicles: No carbon copy of the mod - vehicles will be totally redesigned, bicycle are possible already with the code that is in the game, but other vehicles will need far more work, but will definitely in before beta So, vehicles are not a key feature (at leats not a "High-priority" key feature) for the devs/Dean. To the other points you mentioned: base buildingDepends what you understand under that words. Quote from Dean: When will barricade houses, set up camps come: "Short to medium term, they will be persistent server based" but since Dean also said that Barricading/player built camps & cooking are the things he looks himself most forward to, they may be a higher priority as vehicles. zombies/fixes on walking through walls Ah, the all-time-favourite. In the last stream (eurogamer) he said: "Zombie wall glitch is priority task together with performance"...so I hope this issue will be fixed rather soon...maybe together with the new Z AI? I hope so... fps/cpu core optimizationOptimization happens all the time afaik, it's not a specific task for once, but an ongoing one, also stzated here: "ongoing thing, working with graphic cards manufacturer, lot of work to find out where the problems are" Edit: As said above, the bike will be in before 6 month (if Dean keeps his word ;)) And it's always confusing here...half of the people complain about starving and not finding anything, other half that there is too much food. I have always enough food, so I don't think it's an issue at the moment. But I can imagine, that the amount of canned food that can be found will be lowered as sopon as hunting is in, or the nutrition vaklue goes down etc. Permanent storage: "Persistent objects are going into internal testing next week. " (Dean wrote that yesterday on reddit), so yeah, that might be in soon. -
SoulFirez is totally right on this one: It's a Zombie bug and before you ask: It is not sure, when it will be fixed since its part of a bigger problem: The AI (which is the old one from the Mod, because the new one, on which is worked all the time, is not implemented yet) And part of this, is a bug that causes a free wallhack for all zombies (Because: Old AI+new code+new models): Most objects (like bushes, walls etc.) just don't exist for them - that's why the line of sight isn't blocked by anything and why they can walk through nearly everything including walls. But for some reason they are smart enough to avoid the "Evil Ladders Of Death" [ Bohemia Interactive]...

Summary of dev Q&As from streams
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Mh, I guess he meant the way that you are shooting and not the way that hits are resolved. Because as rocket stated earlier, it is possible for the game engine to determine exactly (and since it's arme it's really exact for a game I guess) where a bullet hit (and an arrow too) ;) If I miss a stream (and don't even know that one was made) please let me know^^ -
Summary of dev Q&As from streams
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Well, we just have to play experimental/watch what is on there ;) But yeah, considering the time given that rocket and his team needed by now for various content, i think that it may be bigger updates...especially if all the new members that were (are?) hired since release "get into it" and are more of a help (not trying to be mean, but working as programmer I know that dilemma of coming to a half finished project and finding a way into it pretty good -.-) -

Hate to do this again, but since already 3 or 4 threads popped up with info that is covered in the first post of this thread: *Bump* -
Zombies needs to be primary objective for the devs!
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Putts_UK's topic in General Discussion
Well originally the SA WAS announced to be out in late 2012/early 2013, but rocket just didn't wanted to give it out that early since...well it wasn't even an alpha and he didn't wanted that people should get it in such a desolate state. I'll just paste what I wrote in the other Zombie-thread some minutes ago: In one sentence: If server performance gets better -> more zombies (and respawning ones), so the aim is: More zombies but no fps drop because of that. Additionally the Zombie AI is also a ongoing task that should (hopefully) replace soon completely the palceholder that the zeds have now... -
Horde of hundreds zombies spawning
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to skill89's topic in General Discussion
@SoulFirez: Maybe I should have quoted the full paragraph: In one sentence: If server performance gets better -> more zombies (and respawning ones), so the aim is: More zombies but no fps drop because of that. -
Because my post was invisible. Or overread since the things that rocket already stated are still considered false... So...yeah, in some way, this suggestion will come. Not for shooting I guess, but what was mentioned in context of that quote qwas repairing (e.g. if you have repaired enough "badly damaged" clothes with a sewing kit you can repair also "ruined" ones, which is impossible otherwise. Maybe this starts at the top and goes down (like: repair enough "worn" to be able to repair "damaged", repair enough damaged to be able to repair badly damaged etc.), the same thing with weapons. For the full Q&A look here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/175596-summary-of-dev-qas-from-streams/

Horde of hundreds zombies spawning
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to skill89's topic in General Discussion
I think this was one of the Load Testings they did...shut down all the loot and spawn Zeds instead and see how many the server could handle. ...and remember, that was written in december, so that means, it's quiet possible that these numbers are much bigger now. Taken from here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/156129-confirmed-upcoming-features-for-dayz/ -
Summary of dev Q&As from streams
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to LaughingJack (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Repair things: That was exactly the exampkle Dean talked about when I mentioned this: So maybe it starts like this: You find a badly damaged fire axe and have a...hm...grindstone and water? something like this, maybe a gravin knife ....but you can't fix it, because you jus't don't know how (maybe additional the axe handle is splitting and you'd need to replace it by finding another handle/whole axe...maybe with a ruined axe head?)...but you can repair worn/damaged ones...and if you're good enough (see quote) you can repair badle damaged/ruined ones as well... -
No. Your corpse just disappears after 10 minutes. And no, that feature is not planned. Because the DayZ zombies are more "infected living people" than "Dead resurrected corpses"...at least afaik. (But yeah, I'd like And this topic has been mentioned and discussed here very often already.

As said by Dean in the last Q&A stream: So...yeah, that's what said to be coming. We'll see what more - suggestions are always a good thing. Bad thing: In that subforum they may not be seen...
