PLEASE report them every time you see them. I have a template for these emails, and everytime I see something like this I send it. I think vilayer knows my emailaddress very well by now - and at least 3 servers were taken down because of this. Server rules: Taken from:http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/158966-dayz-standalone-server-hosting-rules-server-reporting/ And I really hope the loot-respawn system will decrease the number of server hoppers... EDIT: That's the logOUT timer, not the logIN timer ;) Two different things ;)

Awesome typo :) Trying to be helpful: - Getting kicked with no reason: Report server (see my signature...) - Server shutdown/game crashes/glitch that forces to shut down: Annoying, but happens. I also had this happen to me (Server restarted, followed by 3 (!) CTDs...Do something else for the wait-time. A game of haerthstone, get a fresh coffee, polish your monitor, clean up your desk, write a sms to a friend...whatever. It's not SO bad to wait for some minutes ;) - The logout timer should be even harder. 10 minutes timer, that accumulates for every time you get one, only reset after one hour on a server.

Should The Alpha Disclaimer Let The Game Off The Hook?
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Prag's topic in General Discussion
Yeah...no, not only. Sure these things were also attempted to have, but the main difference between Mod and SA is just that in the SA things can be made, which just weren't possible in the mod because of the limitation of the engine, the server architecture etc. Somewhere I read this analogy which fits imho real good: Imagine ArmA 2 as a small house with a shower (the Multiplayer) in in the second floor. Somebody started building a bathtub there (DayZ). The inhabitants were absolute happy, but soon demanded more and more, it should be bigger, have more things, made out of marmor etc. etc. But the stairs were too small to bring the things up, so a crane was put on top of the house and a hole was broken into the side of the house to bring it in. So the bathtub was getting bigger and better, but the house wasn't made for that and it became cracks and the water pressure destroyed the pipes, the floor was hanging through and nearly breaking and the neighbours brats were inserting nasty things in the pipes, since they had to be made outside the house... So, since there was no way to make the bathtub any bigger without completly destroying the house, a new house was built. This time with a bigger stair, hardened, waterproof floor, better pipes inside the house etc. etc. But the inhabitants only saw the bathtub, that was brought upstairs and as soon as water was running they demanded to bath, even if they were told, that it was not as comfortable or shiny or with all the funny extras they knew from the old bathtub, hell not even the roof of the new house was finished and sometimes it was raining straight into the bathtub. But since they were begging and begging, they were allowed to bath - and they complained about the missing of the shiny things they were used to, the cold water that sometimes came out, the rain that fell through the roof, and that these idiotic brats still were able to get to the pipes, because some windows were missing.... And that is the story, what DayZ SA was supposed to improve upon... I can't speak for all of the people here, since some are just morons, but I think they biggest part of the people that answer with "ALFER!" is just plain annoyed by the 100th thread with "Wher are the vehikls?" or "FIX THAT!" and after 10, 15 or 20 times answering the same thinsg eloquently they just don't care anymore and write "ALPHA" or even other, even less nice things.... Don't trust Deans timelines. Hell, he is known for delaying. The problem here is, he is neither blizzard saying "it's done, when it's done, deal with it or get lost" nor is he a PR guy (he is the nightmare of all PR departments i think ;)) that gives vague answers that are correct - he is far too direct and far too honest and just says what he believes - and that may be wrong. And poor hicks is always the one that has to backpedal.... And yes, within an alpha, this IS covered in my honest opinion. In a real Alpha there ware always things, that can happen, which may push features back, because they demand fixing. E.g. think of the Vehicles. To be implemented real good like it is planned, Physics and crafting has to be implemented. Let's say, there is a major problem with Physics at core level, so that has to be fixed, so vehicles will need a month or two more. Annoying? Maybe. But this is exactly one of the things that CAN happen during an alpha. Well they WERE behind, and they just have this delay now on them, even when they are on track now or can implement things even faster than they thought they could in the original timeline (e.g.: those fashionable items. Since the programmers were working on the engine and the server architecture, the desigenrs were crafting. So it was possible to push out such an amount of "fashion"-items rather fast after the Alpha-release, because it was already delayed, but these items were ready to go, since the desigenrs weren't sitting on their ahnds... I am a programmer (but not in gaming industry :( ) and if I had tom take a guess I'd say, it's not that easy. Yes, the limitations of the engine (even if it was rebuilt totally) could have been guessed, since it derivates from the "original" mod-engine, but not all issues, since some things just can not be guessed and aere just seen as they occur...so: it IS more complicated than that. And on the other Hand BI owns DayZ and I'm pretty sure, they wouldn't have let the DayZ devs buy in another engine. -

Damn. I edited before you posted, otherwise I would have changed it to "e" ;)

The Anti-Game - Why DayZ will stay a crappy game
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to tommes's topic in General Discussion
SO, we are, where we were on post 1 on of this thread. The game is no fun to you, because it's not your kind of game. That's fine for everyone. Do something else. And I still don't get the point of this thread...so 1.5 million people play DayZ. Maybe 250.000 didn't like it, just like you. I'm just glad the other 249.999 didn't come here like you and opened a pointless thread just to say that the game was not what they wanted... -

As mentioned in the last Q&A stream (26.02) And as mentioned on reddit, the 0.37 version (with respawning Zs) will go to stable this Wednesday (if nothing major happens) -

The Anti-Game - Why DayZ will stay a crappy game
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to tommes's topic in General Discussion
@tommes: Are you drunk? So you did understand that DayZ doesn't want to be neither a coop game nor a shooter, and you tried it and didn't like it because it "Doesn't really work" (for you). And instead of moving on to something else, you came here to....what? Cry in front of us all? *lol* I read WinowLickers answer and once again we are on the same page but he is so much more polite than me, so I think to myself "If I were into clichés I'd say he is Canadian." -

The Anti-Game - Why DayZ will stay a crappy game
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to tommes's topic in General Discussion
1) DayZ never wanted to be realistic. "Authentic" was the word, because trying to make a game closer to reality was never a goal. Your example with a bullet is perfect why not. 2) Players are not really themselves in a game....that's what I call breaking news. Please tell me one game, where this is NOT the case? I really can't think of anyone... 3) Yeah....so people don't play, the way you want them to play...and you want to force them? That is just DayZ: You are free to act the way you want. And a lot of people want to act like assholes. Live with it. Or not. Your choice as always. I see the main point here (players don't fear the death of a character), which was discussed over and over again in a dozen threads already. but like Duenan said: it will not change. MAYBE the skillsystem will change it a little bit. MAYBE basebuilding will change it a little bit. MAYBE Zombie respawn/higher numbers/better AI will change that a little bit. Is that sure? No. Other suggestions? Oh look it's one of those forum members making a useless comment. Wait... EDIT: Wise man. -

LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to tommes's topic in General Discussion
*chuckles* ah yeah. Suggestions in General discussion. If you go outside your house and scream your suggestions out, they'll have a higher chance to reach someone that can do something about them. And I'm pretty sure that, since you are able to write in whole sentences, you are aware of that. And if you are aware of that, your post is just a way of seeking attention. And I didn't said that my opinion is more important than any other one, I didn't even say what my opinion on that topic was. And yes, this is the internet. But being an attention-seeking crybaby with the account name "skin_head_army" just looks...well...actually it's funny. PLEASE for heavens sake DO that. Or is Dean Hall sitting behind you, pointing with a pistol at your shaved head with a badly inked swastika tattoo on the neck below (just guessing from your name) and forces you to play DayZ? No? Then do that. Do something that is fun to you. That was my point: If something is no fun for you, don't do i. But please don't whine about it. Tears of a grown man (I just assume you are one) in public make me feel uncomfortable. -
The Anti-Game - Why DayZ will stay a crappy game
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to tommes's topic in General Discussion
It's easy: If a game is no fun to you just stop playing it. What is the freakin' point of the OP and of skin_head_army? "Oh, I played a game a while. Then it was no fun to me anymore. Better get in the forum of the game and tell everyone about it" ? Do you need attention? Don't you have the number of a help-line? Or at least teddybear you can talk to? It is FINE if you don't like to play DayZ. It is FINE if you hate it. It is FINE if you loaded into on external drive, took a crap on it and burned it (as long as you don't do that near me). And really, I couldn't care less about you not having fun anymore in DayZ, but for heavens sake why the fuck do you make a thread about it here? To annoy people? To stuff you opinion (that is SO important to all of us) down our throats? To start a flamewar? Or do you REALLY just need the attention SO badly? Whatever. -
Starting our focus on survival God, I love that title :) And as mentioned on reddit: Some items that can be consumed raw, will have negative effects if not cooked (e.g. rice) The Ruger MK2 WILL have an integrated suppressor, and this one will actually already work as also mentioned on reddit. Stab attack with hay fork? Well...the mob running around here finally has one ingame ;) New Zombie animations...let's see...well, in march^^ Waited for this. This Server-spamming messaging system that is in place now is awful at best and now instead of sending the same messages over an over and over again, it will be sent only once...maybe this will also result in a better server performance, since the server is not so busy with these messages... And this. Since Dean mentioned in late January that they will present the roadmap, I wait for it ;)

Wizardry is OP, needs to be toned down.
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to airfell's topic in General Discussion
Well, I know Wizardry was an awesome game, but really, it is from 1981, so what do you expect? OP was only Return of Werdna ( Wizardry Part 3? or 4? dunno..)...that game was so freaking hard, I crashed my keyboard once... And fear the skeletons^^ Sry for derailing, couldn't resist, since it a) was with 99% posiibilty a desync issue (on which si workled constantly) and B) some folks already told ya...^^ -

Experimental - New melee animation.
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to flygamer1's topic in General Discussion
I love that. And that was what I heard in the Q&A stream and why I was confused since it was suddenly a "known bug" in the Announcement...but good to hear that "the actual bug is after you click left mouse button you won't get to the rised pose, spacebar is needed. " :) Don't listen to them. Ever. Once you start you will have to continue and...oh no...I see it coming... *doomsayer mode activated* a SafeZone where attacking is disabled by the server....shooting restrictions to lower KoS....a morality system...skill trees with skillpoints that the player puts in at character creation...a fast travel system....a health bar...and infected Apes... Wait, that last one sounded great. APes, broken out of the zoo in Cherno, roaming the woods now...jump you from the trees, steal your stuff, throw feces at you and bite you afterwards in the head... -
[HOWTO] Test Experimenal Builds / Help the Dev´s to improve Quality
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Sloddor's topic in General Discussion
Make this one sticky... They added 40 new servers, but I don't know if thzere are any asian servers, just heard about some australian servers coming up... No way as far as I know. If there is an update (no matter if you play exp or stable) you have to install it or you can't connect to servers, since the version number is checked (and other things too) and all servers are updated pretty fast... But if you play an stable just opt out of experimental and you get only the stable updates...but why would you not want to have updates? Shiny new stuff, better fps, more zombies...I mean...O.O -
I had this issue before the latest patch on NEAF...I was on a server, running to the tower...CTD. Conencting another server, making 2 steps....CTD. Wait 5 minutes while my poor char sat all in all already a full minute now on the ground, tried different server, 3 steps forward...CTD. Decided fuck it, last try, joined another server, run in opposite direction...no crash. I don't know if the first 3 servers had something in common that my PC didn't liek or if i stepped on the "Stone of CTD" BI, but it seems to happen sometimes (it is also filed as a bug since some time, but due to the lack of communalities I guess it is hard to find why this happens for the devs... So..maybe just log in another server, and try going somewhere else...full sprint if the stone of CTD follows you ;) Maybe you are as lucky as I was and it goes away without anything...

Was ansered by Hicks in the stream from 26.02: See here for more information: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/175596-summary-of-dev-qas-from-streams/#entry1796311 Longer timer: Sure, why not. Add all the "login-timer"-time that you got and sum it up everytime (like: First time leaving server that you were on less than 30 minutes: 5 minutes. Second time, you were on a server for 20 minutes, gives you a penalty of 2 minutes. Next server you join, you have to wait not 2 but 7 minutes etc.), can only be reset if you stay more than an hour on a server. BUT: I hope (hope, hope, hope) that with the dynamic loot-respawn-system that is planned the amount of server hoppers goes down rapidly...
-
Well, in my opinion, what made the lootspawn system in the mod so bad, was the bubble-item-recycling garbage. You know...run into an area, kill Zs, loot, pick up all things, throw away the ones you dont need or want, run away, come back in a circle and the loot as respawned. takes 5 minutes if you are really slow or the area where you loot is big... As far as I know, this is the way it will be implemented (if the Devs didn't change their mind) - An server start only a random, small amount of loot will spawn everything else gets a random timer (half hour was minimum as far as I remember) for intial spawn, if somethig gets looted, the loottable gets again an randomized timer like it was an initial spawn... That's true. The point of server restarting (when loot respawn works) is not the loot but the server performance - too many things get stored, the Ram gets clustered up and the server gets laggy -> restart. If someone really wants to camp a supermarket for a minimum of half an hour but probably more (i don't now if there is a limit, maybe 2 hours or 3?) ...well...let him. In that time he could have run anywhere or even hopped 10 servers and hope for untouched loot on one of them. But most people I know playing this game don't want to wait... First sentence: Very true. But loot farmers are already reality...server hoppers, "private" servers that restart 50 times per day and kick people (now with lame excuses instead of a servername like join=kick)...so a loot system like written above will be change that to the better....in my opinion^^ And finally: Yes. Less loot on hardcore, and for every missing piece a zed more ;)
-
Omar Sahder? NOOOOoooooOOOOOOoooooooo (You are a mean, mean troll.) And now srs: 1) You may need Direct x 10 2) Your graphics card doesn't support shader model 3 which may sound like you're using an intergrated graphics card (in that case...get a graphics card, that supports shader 3.0, and if you have one change it, that your system USES it instead of the onboard graphic chip^^) 3) Update your video card drivers

[Experimental] Thought's anyone?
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Window Licker's topic in General Discussion
That's correct, but as it has been mentioned by Hicks cooking (maybe even campfires?) may come in the next experimental patch...may^^ But I like that on the experimental servers...hard to find loot, hard to stay alive, every can of beans is a potion of happiness...until you remember you still only have a baseball but and no can opener XD I'm very excited for the loot spwaning system and I hope they stick to the original plan they had (not all loot spwans on server start only random items, but respawn/initial spawn happens at randomized times, something like a half hour as minimum)...if that system comes I can hear the tears of server hoppers flow (and always remember: Close all doors after looting, so they don't know if it has been looted or not ;))
