This is why we should use ArmA III's Engine.

Meh, you can troll better than that. Not even a freshspawn in the forum will fall for that and start a flamewar with you. Edit: I feel the need to be helpful today, so...next time try something this: "They should have waited for the ArmA 3 engine! Imagine what this would look like! And since they weren't really doing anything for the past year or so and started development, like, in january, they could have used this engine as well! And Breaking Point already has Zombies! And vehicles! And better weapons! And they don't have the millions that Dean had before he stole and ran away with them!" ....see? That would have been a better start. You did...well..I'd say mediocre but that would annoy Johnny, and when he sees that I called that troll attempt "mediocre", he will be mad and start trolling my threads, and I don't need that to happen. So I have to say, it was just a bad attempt. Next time, choose your words...well...just a little more eloquent with little hints that you know something (even if it shines through that you know nothing). That works most of the time.

My most productive post yet about improving Zombies and game

Before I start to troll: It is not a bad idea. So, thanks for sharing, even if the Suggestion forum would have been better for that. But as CrashBoomK put it in one sentence: Server load. Every object counts. And you can't litter 100000 dead bodies on the ground, because, well, then you would have a)no loot b)only one player with 2 frames per minute which would result in c) a very soon dead char. So, enough productivity, on we go: "might"? Not been to experimental much, hm? :) Hm. looking at the female character models: nope, not japanese. I also haven't seen an tentacles by now... And "realism" was never a goal. Authenticity was it. A game can not be fake. Well it can if its only like an installer and a loading screen that never ends. Or like the new Rambo game. Oh, and the zombie wall glitch is going to be extinct. They will not. Well they will appear "out of thin air" since a new instance of the Zombieobject is created. So that's magic. But every line in a program is magic, because you create something out of nothing, In fact, Programming is like giving birth to a child. An unthankful, monster-child that wants to ruin your life by destroying everything that you know because it wont work until its too late, and you'll sit hours and hours awake in the night wondering where you went wrong with that thing... Ahm...where was I? Ah yeah: But they won't appear "in front of your face", as it has been stated a "sensible respawn system" is being worked on. Well the sensible part, respawning works already.

Question: Who is "we"? Edit: Yes. That's a nonsense post in a nonsense thread.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

Ah, I'm a programmer (java/C#/VB.Net, so nothing fancy, not even in the gaming industry) so I have another start up on these things...and I like to inform myself on topics I'm interested in. Working faster...that's a tough question, since I can't say how fast they work now. But you can't take the initial weekly updates as "normal" speed, because most of the things that were in them, were already premade by the designers & developers that were not needed for pushing out the Alpha release, so that these things for the first updates could brought out pretty fast. I'd say it's still a pretty fast development now, regarding what is done there. And if you look at the changelog, you'll see some things that are huge. And I mean real huge across all departments of the dev team, like physics. Yeah, they are disabled at the moment, but as we could see in different streams, they work on internal. To make them work, it's not only physics (which bz´tw. is often an own engine, mostly only bought by dev teams and also not built) like "item has to fall down when in air" but also things like math - throwing items: how fast do they fly? How fast do they drop? And since it was mentioned that every item (!) will have a physic-based weight because they will all be of other materials (not only visual for the player but for the program!) you can imagine how horrible it is to perfect this. Or that items don't "slide" down when they hit somethign but bounce off...and what if a player is hit? What material does what? An empty crisp-box should not hurt, but a stone may do, even if both are thrown from the same distance with the same force. And what, if the player that gets hit, moves? I know we are used to physics in game since some years, but as said before: Most use bought engines. So you see...that's really huge. And I mean HUGE. It will (I think) also affect ballistics (bulletdrop etc.) which are now calculated but will later be part of that... Or the new melee animations. Doesn't look much, but in fact it changes the whole gameplay - how is it swung, when does it hit, how does it hit etc etc. The fact that this could be implemented that fast is a good sign, that the DayZ engine is built properly - that means it is easy to extend for the needs of DayZ Or the lightning and HDR improvements...look at them and look at older pictures. the difference is amazing...and it won't cost you fps. That is (for programmers) so amazing to see...and so hard to understand as a player that never saw network code... And other parts of the dev team work als hard it seems...Svetlo isn't THAT long part of the map and a new town comes, cities have been updated, new buildings in every city and still it looks not like pasted together, even if you know most of the buildings. It looks organic. And in the background the new medical system starts to roll out (heart attacks/getting damp), which is (if dean told the truth ;)) easy to build on so that new diseases etc. can be brought in fast...And don't forget the Zombie Respawn System, also, it seems, their pathfinding is better, the wall glitch is not that common anymore, and the collision detection is a little bit better i have the feeling, dozens of bugfixes... Well, it's actual the biggest update by now, from my point of view ;) Not that much fancy items but real huge things in the background...^^ Edit: Sorry. Didn't mean to write that much, it's just fascinating for me to see how DayZ unfolds :)

Hunting, vehicles, multiple maps, hordes, wow

BP is pretty amazing...but you can see its limits already. And to be fair: vehicles, ballistics, weapons - all taken from arma 3 or based on their models. The sound...well, I'm not so into it, that I could say it absolute fact, but I guess soundfiles were just recorded and changed with existing ones...so, yeah, great that they did it and good for BP, but again, not a big invention. You see, BP can already see its limits regarding what can be done (same as the DayZ mod saw the coming), because it uses again an engine, that wasn't built to support the game in such a way, but to be a military simulator. Somewhere I read this analogy which fits imho real good: Imagine ArmA 2 as a small house with a shower (the Multiplayer) in in the second floor. Somebody started building a bathtub there (DayZ). The inhabitants were absolute happy, but soon demanded more and more, it should be bigger, have more things, made out of marmor etc. etc. But the stairs were too small to bring the things up, so a crane was put on top of the house and a hole was broken into the side of the house to bring it in. So the bathtub was getting bigger and better, but the house wasn't made for that and it became cracks and the water pressure destroyed the pipes, the floor was hanging through and nearly breaking and the neighbours brats were inserting nasty things in the pipes, since they had to be made outside the house... So, since there was no way to make the bathtub any bigger without completly destroying the house, a new house was built. This time with a bigger stair, hardened, waterproof floor, better pipes inside the house etc. etc. But the inhabitants only saw the bathtub, that was brought upstairs and as soon as water was running they demanded to bath, even if they were told, that it was not as comfortable or shiny or with all the funny extras they knew from the old bathtub, hell not even the roof of the new house was finished and sometimes it was raining straight into the bathtub. But since they were begging and begging, they were allowed to bath - and they complained about the missing of the shiny things they were used to, the cold water that sometimes came out, the rain that fell through the roof, and that these idiotic brats still were able to get to the pipes, because some windows were missing. But you could see that now it would be nice, because the bath would be bigger, better without destroying the house. So saying using the Arma 3 engine is saying "Well someone built a new house, very beautiful with a very nice kitchen. I want my bathtub in there."...whereas it has the same things (small staircase. Pipes on the outside. floor that can't handle the weight. etc.) as the old house. To make it short: Yes, it would have been better if they would have gone with the ArmA 3 engine. But no it would not have been better, because until they would have finished reworking the whole engine to fit DayZ, ArmA 4 would have been out and this whole discussion would have started again with different numbers... Edit: Also what the dude said. Beans for him^^

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

In that case: Sorry, misunderstood your question. So one more try: You can only take a guess on this one. Mine would be: I think he would have left anyways/announced that he was leaving. I may be too naive, but I don't think that he is really all about money. From interviews to Q&A sessions and so on - he just doesn't seem like the guy. Additionally, if he really would be about the money, he would have just stayed at BI - I don't think that they want that he goes, clashing heads or not. If he would only got the royalties after the full release, well I'd guess, he'd worked somewhere near his home. Maybe I'm too sympathetic here, but I've worke for 3 years away from home and in the end I just wanted to go home - even if it was for the worse regarding ym income... And to the own studio: He hasn't started his own studio by now, he only announced he will when he returns home. And I don't know if he has enough funds to make a studio in an exclusive mansion with 50 employees that can run for 2 years without publishing anything or if he works alone in his flat. Costs may differ for these. Edit: @Highlander: A lot of games base on the same engine and are totally different games. Take the Unity Engine - a lot of games use it and everyone of them claims to be a whole new game. And you have to watch out...a game engine =/= graphics engine =/= physics engine etc. e.g. the unreal engine (graphics engine, but no ganme engine). Most Studios do not develop an own engine, instead they buy an existing one. And DaZ does not derivate from ArmA 3...it derivates from Arma2, Arrowhead. so...like 2.5. But to make things possible, that weren't possible in the 2.5 engine, it had to be built up from scratch again. Looks simialr, feels similar, allows more, because it is especially developed for DayZs needs....if it is correct what we are told ;)

    Experimental Zombie AI 35.115791

He smelled you. :P That's what you get for sprinting from balota to NWAF and from there to Svetlo. Zombies smell you from 500m away ;) And the Zs in DayZ are not living dead. The spawning/respwaning of Zs is subject to change as mentioned by the Devs to a "reasonable manner"...whatever that will be ;) I have met some in stable 2 or 3 patches ago and I really don't know where they came from, why they were there or what they were doing there. I was jogging with a buddy from Pusta to Staroye, when 3 Zs jump us from the woods. Was pretty scary....because I really did not expect sth like that...
  8. AH, i've seen the floating shipwreck on the latest DevBlog as well...it's in their "TestWorld" ;) And beans for the doc^^
  9. LaughingJack (DayZ)

    Experimental Zombie AI 35.115791

Well I experienced the same...and I also was happy about it (And I died. To Zombies! In DayZ SA! Because I ran out of ammo and was cornered...that was...well...exciting like the mod was. But now, I can't wait for the AI improvements of the Zs... ;) And l think, when the ragdoll system comes in, broken arms and legs will be...well a lot of fun to watch. And maybe even witness for the first time on yourself ;) And since a limping animation is fully intended....well let's see :)
  10. Yeah, didn't want to presume you doing so, just wanted to mention it for all the people that are rather new to this forum :) And also yes, animals have been confirmed and also hunting them and gathering flesh from them (but the dog meat...O.o) And the animals legs and steaks (at least from the boar) coul be seen in the last DevBlog stream :) And the hanging doctor...I'd imagine him in front of the hospital in Electro (or somewhere else)...like..."he should cure us, but he didn't! Hang him!" o.O
  11. I don't hate you. I pity you sometimes, because you fail at changing your opinion, even if you're proven wrong, most of the times you don't even see that you've been proven wrong, if you are proven wrong. And I think, you can't argue because I always get this feeling, that you put your fingers in your ears and shout "LALALALALA", as soon as somebody says something that doesn't fit your way of thinking, instead of trying to see the issue from the other persons point of view. And I, personally, can't stand your username. I don't like skin heads (because i only met nazi-bonehead-skins by now and I really, really REALLY could have lived happily without these experience), but thats just my opinion. Oh, and I also think a skinhead wouldn't use "skinhead army", because that looks like he tries to hide behind the word "army" insterad of standing up for himself, but again, that's just me. But hate? no... You started on that, sry for derailing, that just came out of my mind when I read it. --------------back to topic--------------- Interesting post, thx for that. But don't believe anything you find in the game files. When the 3D models "leaked" all were "OMG Feces!"...and later it was stated, that they are not considered to be implemented and just relicts from a very early phase. The deer was also in this "leaked" 3d models, some weeks (or is it months by now?) ago, together with the deer leg and deer steak, also some of the improvised weapons. Also some of them might be placeholders for something else - like the cars I'd guess. Spraypaint (tan) is just the mixture of black&green i think, but it needs an own object if I'm not wrong. Walky-talkies are already ingame. But some of the other things look really promising :) The hanged doctor...well...O.o creepy.
  12. I really think sometimes it's some way of "national" mentality (can't find a better word right now)....somehow at least.I play on european servers, mostly german or Uk, because...well best pings.^^ I got KoSd 3 times in more than 100 hours of SA, 2 times at NWAF, and 2 or 3 (sniper-)attempts on me that failed. I had ONE robbery (well...he came up to me in front and said: "Gimme your weapon" without aiming at me, so I shot in his face O.o ) 3 times a freshspawn tried to PoS me (and all failed miserably, two because they couldn't knock me out with one hit...). On the other hand I had by now 9 friendly encounters, people I spoke with, traded with, scavenged together etc. A dozen or more "awkward" encounter like this scheme: Hello-Hello-already looted XYZ=-Yeah-take care, i heard shots at ZX - ok thanks by And more people than I wanted to count, that never saw me, because I didn't wanted them to..full military+weapon running around in a squad of 3 or more...
  13. And he knew that by which reason? Really, sometimes the people here confuse me. Coming from the same player in 2 different threads: "We need more player interaction, even if it's bad for me" "As soon as somebody says "Freeze" or "drop your weapon" or "go prone" I run around like hell und punch furiously" ....really? Edit: Even worse was the guy that said "I will never comply if anybody points a weapon at me, no matter if I have a gun, an axe or only my fists, i will always try to kill him, I may only succeed in 1/100 cases but it's worth." Some guy, 3 days before that in one of the 500 KoS threads "KoS is bad, it ruins everything. I always get only shot on sight, I never had an experience like you described with a robber." And the OP is exactly the same: "“GET ON THE FLOOR!!!!” I calmly responded “Why would I get on the ground, so you can shoot me easier? Yea, no you have to catch me first.” " "Bandits, KOS, Torture, these are the things that make this game amazing to play." ...he just writes both in one post.

Why is der a F****** hide body function!?!?!

Want a persistant container? Shoot someone. O.O
  15. LaughingJack (DayZ)

Why is der a F****** hide body function!?!?!

Take everything you can carry. Run into a house that never spawns loot. Put it there. Rinse, repeat until body is looted. So only absolute new players or terrible desperate ones will find these things :)
  16. LaughingJack (DayZ)

    Game logic .

Yeah^^ The ArmA melee was real terrible...but in a "authentic military simulation", I think they never planned with a lot of melee...^^ And in DayZ, well, with the new 2-handed-animations that also affect hitting range, and where the hit resolves it's a good start I'd say... :) And i love it that you have to put your weapon up now to attack with it. Unifies it with the "ready" state of the guns.^^
  17. LaughingJack (DayZ)

Why is der a F****** hide body function!?!?!

^This. So much :) And no shovel means...good hiding. I see myself struggling with the ragdolls....I carried a corpse in a bush, but a leg is peaking out, so i push it back,,,suddenly the arm peaks out on the other side... afaik: Yes. Should also replace the "hide body function" imho. Because the ruined orange raincoat and the other ruined stuff could be thrown at you, after physics is implemented? ;)
  18. LaughingJack (DayZ)

    Game logic .

Not only bullets, also melee attacks. If you hit e.g. with your axe the axe that somebody else is carrying, it won't hurt them, but degrade the status of the axes a little bit (which in fact, is good^^)

    Problem with getting kicked

Report the server please - so that abusive guy gets what he deserves: Getting his server shut down without any compensation. Server rules say:
  20. LaughingJack (DayZ)

    Dragging Comrades

As far as I can remember, this is planned and will introduced after Physics and ragdolls are fully implemented...maybe it will also replace then the "hide body" function ;)
  21. LaughingJack (DayZ)

How Big Is The Day Z Developer Team?

I did not knew that this was my resume, and I used the "title" programmer, because "Java/C#/VB.Net senior developer" is nothing that would clear anything up here, that's why i stuck with "programmer". Don't get hung up on that, and don't be so hurt because of my opinion. And I don't work at "Bloomberg, ESPN, Google, or any of the major game shops". I'm not even in the gaming industry. But I could relate to that quoted sentence as a "programmer", and believe me, from a Java/C#/VB.Net senior developers (better?) point of view, that has been, working in ad also leading, some bigger projects and dozens of smaller ones, it IS bullshit. Editz: Again: It was only my opinion. Feel free to give a crap about it or believe me. It's up to you.
  22. LaughingJack (DayZ)

    Problem with getting kicked

Because the Logout-timer mechanic can't distinguish why someone left a server. It just holds the character for 30 seconds after ther last recieved message afaik. But yeah, if you get kicked, it shouldn't apply. Maybe that will be changed...but on a perfect server you would only be kicked for violating the rules...
  23. Wtf.. 1.) You behaved like a prick. "Yea, no you have to catch me first." ...I would have shot at you as well after that answer (and I'm neither a KoS guy nor a handcuff+torture one). I hate these kind of people. Circle runners and freshspawn-rocky-#YOLO-puncher are the worst for me, rigth after hacker and equal to server hopper....but I probably wouldn't have missed you if I had shot. I begin running around the cabin telling them to kill me, shoot me come on do it. Yeah.... As Benny Hill’s Theme is being blasted over VOIP I decided to pull a stupid and sit at the doorway of the cabin crouched just below the windows. I then start opening and closing the door with each and every time the man inside shooting at nothing through the door. I asked if they had given up yet Really...? And that sentence...Bandits, KOS, Torture, these are the things that make this game amazing to play. Yeah. But instead of playing along you decided to "Catch me first" run around, punching and blasting Benny hill...*clap* *clap* *clap* 2) There is a 30 second logout timer 3) there is a login timer if you leave a server to fats after joining as well. So that guy ghosted you, which means, you camped them for AT LEAST 6 minutes (30 seconds logout, login to another server+change position+30seconds logout+5minute wait timer), i'd say 7 minutes if he was really, really fast. 4) Imho you deserved what happened, just for your initial reaction. .........to your points: a) Report button without knowing who the other player is = useless. And afaik it is not planned to show that information... b )Blocking players would only work on Steam-level. For that you would need the ability to add them first, which you can't do, since you see point a) don't know who they are.
  24. LaughingJack (DayZ)

Aspects that accumulatively wear on your patience in dayz

-Slowing down while walking up staircases An ArmA issue, I think, but I'm not sure about that...but maybe linked as well with the next issue... -Slowing down while walking up slight inclines A collision issue, Dean talked about it, will be fixed -Waiting for character to begin moving again after falling from small heights (even 12 inches) Will maybe change since the falling dmg is tweaked on and is also set in relation to the weight carried. I think this is planned somehow that way, but yes, at the moment too hard -Waiting for character to completely stop and complete an action while running from zombies Will be changed as mentioned in the latest Devstream -Waiting for continuous repeat user commands to finish entire can of food or water (takes forever) Meh. Forever? "Eat all" and wait. Or how fast can you eat a can of beans in real life? -Waiting for character to slowly put away items before being able to grab ladder (should throw weapon over shoulder while grabbing ladder in one fluid motion) True. But there is no "fast" animation for these things....by now. Will maybe change, since most animations are overhauled again... -Waiting for character to revert to crouch again before fully standing up You mean the animation I guess....but what else do you want? Kip up? Or how to you stand up when you are lying? -Waiting for character to fully complete an animation after accidentally pressing the wrong key (step over animation, prone, weapon switch etc) Well...I don't say you fault, but it is ;) But it's a pain sometimes, especially the slow vault is annyoing. As mentioned before, skippable animations/actions will come -Waiting for dropped loot to appear on floor Should change with next build as it has been announced -Scrolling up and down to select different options Ah...no. What else do you want? This system - in my opinion .- works..yeah I have reloaded my magnum accidentially because i wanted to open a door but thats just the "action button" syndrome - you can interact with different things with only one button...the price is the scroll menu... -Having to manually empty hands before carrying out other actions (should do that automatically, or should we need to instruct character when to breath as well?) Should be a suibject to change afaik -All non-interruptible animations All longer animations will be able to be skipped as mentioned in the last Devstream -Scroll to open door.. nope.. door opens me In Chernarus Door opens You! ;) But this will change as well, as Dean stated that they are reworking the door mechanics to "physic based objects".
  25. LaughingJack (DayZ)

    Problem with getting kicked

Ah. Yeah. It's bad? (I mean, what opinion did you expect?^^) That the normal 30 second timer should apply is clear, but, well, 2 1/2 minutes, seem like unintentional to me = bug. And I never type. That would mean to let my mouse go. Never let your mouse go. You can't shoot if you let it got. Hold it. Tight. Actually I'm more worried about: Goddamn DayZ, what have you become...
