If people didn't approach people in a real life apocalypse situation, the human race would die. That's an awful attitude to adopt! In a real life situation people would have to band together or die out, thats pretty much the only two options!

I tend to just chat to them, you can have a weapon out but if they don't then I always find its better not to do so, keep a few paces meters back and give yourself somewhere to dart off to if it all goes wrong where you can give yourself a second or two to equip a weapon if need be. To be honest, I try and talk to everyone besides armed squads and anyone I see killing someone else. I hate running around like a paranoid idiot and if I happen to die then so be it, but if it goes well then its a worthwhile risk. Besides, I like gearing up, being adverse to pvp when possible I never know what to do when geared! I have died a few times, some people are just dicks, but for the most part I have found if you speak to someone and just say hey and get chatting, a lot of the time they will respond and be decent.. Or maybe I have just been lucky! But I cant help but think those that are saying just kill them or don't approach are missing out on such a big part of the experience! At the end of the day, its a game, have fun and interact and don't be so precious about your gear until a life actually means something in game!

The thing is, you could make that point about a lot of things in this game survival wise.. I do not know how to make a bow, tan leather or ever held a gun in my life.. Should I be prevented from doing all those things in game because I do not know how to do them in real life? Realism is great until you start taking it to the point of losing the fact that no matter what people say about survival/anti game crap, this is an entertainment medium and should be kept as such. This is a game, so lets just allow the people to do all the things they have to do to get things like helicopters up and running and let them enjoy the process and reward.. Yes it should be a pain in the ass to get it running and keep it working but the fact is, if I ever managed it, it would make the effort, team work and time debt worthwhile when I am flying about and enjoying the views.. As long as they aren't armed then they are not overpowered. Yes they can be used to move a squad in or whatever, but who cares. A V3S will eventually be able to do the same as will any other vehicles with 4-5 seats.. Yes the chopper will get there faster, of course, but they also become a focal point for a lot of targeting from those who see it pass.. The way I see it, as long as there is a weapon capable of punching through the glass of a heli, then the helis will not be overpowered.. And if there are no armed helis then we do not need stingers or AA guns or anything like that as until they land, parachute, whatever, they are not a threat besides spotting.

Exp Update: 0.55.126884 Discussion

Very much enjoyed my run around Elektro just now.. Managed to aggro a good 6-7 zombies and led them to the church and locked them in.. Went and found a few more and led them back to the church and locked them in too.. If you are playing on UK 5 don't go into that church :) -

I wasn't but then I just went back on UK 5 and was finding Sprites and peaches everywhere! Now fully stocked! Also giving my collection of TTSKO jackets to random passers by :) Oh and a crowbar is an awful way to open a tin I just discovered! -

Its been so far but it has crashed on average once every 5 mins for me so it has been a bit difficult.. I found 2 SPOSN backpacks in a house and bus.. I also filled the backpack with TTSKO jackets that I found in houses as well so I totally agree the loot is very strange.. Only melee weapon I have found is a crowbar.. I have found masses of .45 ammo and some SKS ammo too but zero guns.. And foot is practically non existent in the houses, though I did just find a sprite and peaches in a guard house style thing but it crashed before I could eat and drink so that red starvation isn't going away until I die I don't think! Zombies seem a lot better but the lack of footsteps is unnerving. Enjoying it when it works and if I could find something with nutritional value and something better to kill zombies with it would be brilliant... Also, met so many friendly people :) -
Don't see why not.. I would prefer unarmed versions, maybe like the Bells and Little Birds from the various mods. They are fun to fly and pretty agile and have a limited carry capacity for gear and players.. They should take some serious work to get up and running and should require maintenance (though not to extremes, lets actually make it plausible!) and I would have a lot of fun if I did eventually get hold of one.. Besides, if there are 1-2 per server, those groups that have them are going to have to seriously hide them well and are going to have a target on their backs the whole time, so yes it will be great having one and helping you out, but if someone spots you landing, be prepared to be lit up majorly!
-
Exactly :) Sitting up in a bush with binoculars above Cherno or Elektro and watching the deathmatchers shooting and getting swarmed by 100 zombies, that will be worth the price of admission.. Then pop on here for the "OMGZ zombiees are so dumb! TaKe thEm out da GaMe NoW I wantz CODz an AS50S!!" threads!
-
Yes and then they turn on you and the horde surges your way, I am sure you will kill a few but 30? 40? 50? And that horde and gunfire gives your position away even further, as somehow I doubt you will be hatcheting that many infected! Can not wait for this, infected being a threat will make people think more and all those KOS bandits will soon be swarmed and raging.. I will happily accept death from a sniper in the city, safe in the knowledge he is now fighting off and horde and I will see him on the coast shortly :)

Well that is good news!

What is the nicest thing you have done in DayZ
galekast replied to LORDPrometheus's topic in General Discussion
Me and my friend actually got quite a shock last night, we were fairly kitted out and armed with Mosins, looting a little village near Novy, two French guys ran over and surprised us, armed and looking like they were going to murder.. They saw us with no weapons out, I said hi, they said hi and put their weapons away and we had a nice little chat, exchanged supplies and ammo and then all went our separate ways.. Probably one of the first inland armed encounters I have had where there was no one trying to shoot or kill.. It probably helped my friend had his pink raincoat on, those things are like friendly beacons.. If you are wearing one, you don't care who sees you clearly and just want to chat! -
Surely with the mods, some enterprising and talented individual will create a DayZ Commander or DayZLauncher like program that will categorize the various mod servers and auto launch the correct mods for that server.. I can not see this being a problem.. Quite looking forward to seeing what people do with it.. Sure you will get the usual "10000 vehicles, AS50, spawn select" crap, but you will also get some truly innovative and interesting creations being mixed in and I for one am very much going to try as many out as possible and see what fits my personal preference the best.
-
Got to disagree too, I am having great fun living the quiet life and moving from town to town, hunting animals with my bow and arrow and generally living as long as possible.. More bows would make the mechanic more interesting and mix it up a little and I think a lot of people would use the bow if it was more polished and useful in general.. But I am currently using it exclusively and loving it!
-
Haha damn it, I knew there would be a flaw in my idea.. I mean technically, I guess they would have to find a way to allow that.. Problem being, there would be too much potential for abuse.. Eg/ group grabs your gun, meets up with you, gives it to a fresh spawn unloaded and you kill the fresh spawn to get your gun back.. To be honest, I doubt they will ever find a solution for this unfortunately..
-
In this case, they need to be able to stop you from using those items totally.. As I said before, if all items have a unique ID (Which I am sure I read was being implemented to stop dupers?) then they just block the items you died with from being available for you to utilize or pick up for a set period.. Say 24 hours or something like that.. Yes it means the groups have the advantage, they always do to be fair in terms of gear, but it will at least cause issues and mean they have to cherry pick the best stuff or completely swap out their gear for yours.. Unfortunately there is just no viable way to stop it entirely.. And I do agree, bodies should persist over server restarts.. Even if it was just one or for a set period of time, 2-3 hours or something regardless of server restarts.. And have the gear degrade over a period of time until its all ruined or damaged (Although certain things would be fine, cans/canteens/metal items) at which point the body disappears and only the non ruined loot remains for one more server restart?
-
My issue with this at the moment is to do with something that happened the other day.. My friend got run over by a guy in a V3S.. He jumps out and starts looting, I hop out of a bush and kill him and his friend continues to try to run me down... Eventually he drives off and I move into a position to watch for him flanking me... I leave it a reasonable amount of time, maybe 5-10 minutes and cautiously head over to the bodies with the intention of looting the other guy.. No bodies at all.. Now I think that is wrong.. I killed the guy but had to back off to ensure survival and safety, his body should not just up and disappear like that.. People always talk about realism on here, so how is it realistic that a body just disappears like that.. I do believe they should implement something to stop you looting your own body (Maybe use unique IDs to stop you picking up items you died with?) but I think it is wrong to lose the opportunity for you to take gear from someone you killed or a friend who got killed just because 5-10 minutes elapsed... Server restart, fine, I understand that... But not like that..

Why don't Bohemia Interactive make Dayz for mac?
galekast replied to ace4's topic in General Discussion
Couldn't you just set up windows on your mac and run it through that? I am sure that is what my friend did with Arma 2 DayZ... Don't see why it wouldn't work for this too? -

I tend to help people regardless but the two that stand out would be when I found my first V3S in Novy, I got in, drove for about 20 feet and saw this guy running along with a fireaxe. So I stopped the engine and told him he could have the truck, I was better off running anyways! The other time I was running along the coast to meet up with my friend, had an SKS and some ammo and found a guy who appeared to be pretty new to the game.. I chatted to him for a minute or two, gave him the gun and ammo and a little food and drink and off we ran in opposite directions... He was genuinely astounded that I didn't shoot him and hopefully that may have encouraged him to do something nice for someone in the future too! (My friend moans at me a lot as I tend to talk to everyone... I am sure it will get me killed one day but so far, talking to people tends to work!) -
Animals spin in one place. Humorous bugs FTW!

I like the one I saw the other day, where a guy was sliding along down the road on his knees, while holding an axe and apparently rowing a boat with said axe.. It looked hilarious! -
memory leak + non-persistent inventory
galekast replied to Wookieenoob's topic in General Discussion
Well that is what MSI Afterburner is telling me in the top left.. As far as I am aware V-Sync is not on for me. It will generally run between 70-150fps in the wilderness (Depending on where I am on the map) and cities normally drop down to 40-50s roughly though I tend to stay out of them regardless.. I'm not running it maxed either, so that probably helps a lot. If it helps I am running a Intel 4790K oc'd to 4.4ghz, 8gb ram, Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X 3gb and all running off a SSD.. -

I had an issue where my fps was tanking badly, as in, normally it runs at 150fps in the open (I was by the edge of the map) and it was giving me 10-15fps and my characters outfit was glitching and tearing all over the place. My friend had the same thing... Tested it on two different servers in two different locations, both the same.. I closed the game, deleted all my launch parameters and restarted and it fixed it and started running beautifully so you may want to give that a go if you are having any issues.. -
This game or any "Arma" based game running at a solid and consistent 30fps will make most players happy to be perfectly honest. Anyone who plays on the PS4 will be very pleased if the game runs at a locked 30fps in the wildnerness and cities as would a lot of PC players on low-mid range machines.. As I said, they wont be allowed to release a game in the state of Arma 2/3 with huge fps drops in cities, Sony just wont allow it. So at the end of the day, if they are going to do it, it will be done properly, optimized for the hardware (which will be a lot easier for the PS4 having only one system spec to setup for) and those players who do pick it up will get a solid experience. And as a PC and PS4 player, I find it laughable that people mock the consoles.. They may not have the power of a lot of gaming rigs but when it comes to optimized performance and good, solid gaming experiences, they can not be beat..
-
At the end of the day, the PS4 could actually end up being the better version for most people in terms of performance. Anyone with a low end pc who struggles may look at the PS4 as a cheaper alternative to upgrading or buying a new pc to play DayZ. I mean, when it comes to full release on PS4, you can damn well guarantee that Sony will expect it to run at a consistent 30fps no matter where on the map you are or how many players are on the server.. They won't want the ridiculous FPS drops people currently get when heading into the big cities as they will not be able to turn around and utter the pc staple of "You need a better rig".. It will just have to run perfectly and consistently and to be honest, if they pull that off on the PS4 then we can all look forward to the PC version running a hell of a lot better too!

Generally a lone wolf however I do have a friend that I pair up with when he is online.. Play to survive as long as possible, not here for the PVP or mindless slaughter! I will generally try to avoid other players if possible, so unless someone threatens or fires at me, I will tend to not shoot anyone. Never KOS unless I spot someone stalking me or trying to sneak up, then they are hostile in my eyes and fair game.. Nope, no RPing as of yet, though it is something I like the sound of as it should remove some of the KOS asshats from the world :) I guess hero, on the mod my humanity was always high so I try to stay the same in the SA.. I avoid the cities in general unless I am with my friend or I spawn near one.. Tend to just check the smaller towns and villages and random houses scattered around. You can find all you need outside of big cities.. Never play to PVP, just to explore, have fun and survive as best I can.. I know I hate it when I am killed half way through a session, why would I want to willingly inflict that on someone else? So I will go scavenging, kill some animals, get everything I need then head off to some part of the map I haven't explored properly and have a look around! Someone who has fun I guess, whatever their definition of that may be.. If someone wants to KOS that is down to them, I don't agree with their style but they can play how they want and that is what makes this game beautiful. But I do think that someone who can survive a long time while still having interactions with other players and not having to KOS everyone on sight would be my definition of a very good player.. That takes real skill.. Hoarder all the way.. No tents though as of yet, just what I can carry.. Avoid it if possible.. I always like to explore the map, running off to the far corners and seeing what is there! Just surviving and having fun. If I happen upon a decent gun then happy days, if not then I will stick with an SKS and be happy running about and trying to meet people and exploring the map :) And if I can help someone along the way then even better!
