    Easter Eggs? Aliens? Mysteries? [Official]

I was hoping, secretly, that they may have added some Black Ops 2 style easter eggs into this. Perhaps they did and this is the first clue.

    Loot-able Objects like the Fridge

Yo homie go searching around for everything Rocket has said about the game in later development. Interacting with the environment, like you said, and more I'm sure is already planned. I mean, honestly, people who think they know that this is an Alpha... oftentimes just think that means it's buggy... Right now it's DayZ mod where you can go into more houses...

someone tried to do this to me, but was basically like "i'm friendly i'm friendly" then told me to surrender. my sawed off told him firmly "no"

    *THIS* is why I KOS.

I'd like anyone and everyone to think about this: a balanced in game economy might make this a necessity in the future. I think it would be fun actually. If you see a guy with an axe, you've found your axe! DayZ mod = survival. DayZ SA = survival of the fittest?

    Remove Payday Masks from Game

Sorry to basically point you out by quoting this, this goes to a lot of people, but why do people act like the current state is a problem. There is an overabundance of everything that's in the game now that's going to be rare later. If any item was actually "rare" now, that would be a problem for development. Imagine if putting on the pink clown mask made a female model show completely nude or something. If they made it as rare as it probably should be down the road, there's a chance it (or another problem with another item) would go unnoticed and unfixed. Dean has mentioned a balanced in game economy with item spawns so... Information.
  6. That last bit, I forgot to mention that, but having people with you changes the game. You could, and probably should, assume every survivor is hostile until otherwise noted. This doesn't mean KOS, but don't run out and reveal your location either. You can hole up in a good, defensible corner and type a few words to make sure they're cool. This one dude in the mod wanted to team up, but he was in bandit skin so I told him I'd let him know which town I was heading to, and then I'd take the long way about, and if he didn't want me to fire to stay cool and move through a couple towns with me going on the opposite sides. He turned out to be trustworthy enough though, he never killed me, said his goodbyes when we were done playing and that is that. If you're alone, you might as well flee from a pack unless you think the chance of them offering supplies is greater than the chance of them handcuffing and raping you. Treat any sole survivor as hostile until you can at least confirm they won't KOS you through chat or voice, but remain wary, they could easily take out their gun and attack at any time. Keep your eye on them and get a little nervous if they suddenly equip their firearm til you know the person well. If you're in a group, you can still treat any survivor you see as hostile until you confirm otherwise, but in this case it's a lot easier to take control of the situation. Keep in mind, that sole survivor might be a baddass or an idiot, and might have a magnum in his jean pocket, so I would personally recommend treating him like he could become hostile at any moment until you can confirm otherwise. And still, they might turn on you for no reason, perhaps with no weapon at all, sheerly out of stupidity or boredom.

12 Ideas That I feel Would Improve DayZ.

    1. As this is an alpha, I have faith that giving items unique qualities is on their list for down the road, except for the ladder part. Otherwise I will be really dissapointed. 2. In combat, I can't see this being effective. I recently made a post about stealth killing other players in the suggestion section, and I think this would work with that. i.e. put a pen in your hands, go up and stealth kill a player, get a special animation of him jamming the pen in the side of his neck. 3. This is at least definitely going to be implemented for bayonets, I would however love the ability to bash some guy to death with the butt of my rifle. 4. I have seen plenty of older games with a similar feeling melee eventually add a 3 strike combo, and this is one that goes along with item number 1. 5. See item number 1, replacing item qualities with armor options. 6. Locked gunsafes spawning in random residential homes that require an extremely hard to find key to open. FXXK YEAH! 7. This would break the game. Nuff said. 8. Expand that to the ability to improve any two similar items by combining parts if you have a toolbox or tools or something. 9. This isn't QWOP, however I agree that uphill walking should be addressed FAR down the road. 10. See number 1. 11. This one is really nothing but aesthetics for what you can already do, although a door opening at you can be a b*tch. 12. See #1, I'm also hoping this is because they're going by the old game for some parts, but at the same time as long as you're wearing a backpack you could do what they do in game. But yeah the magic sticking weapons to the back thing is WAY out of place in this game. I can understand that Dante, the Nephilim gets like materialize a powerful nephilim-demon-sword-thing on his back and it just stays there, but not DayZ.

Improvised Firearms, and some thoughts on night vision.

I disagree here. "bows and arrows and spears are a comparatively ineffective way of killing people." You know throwing weapons are also to be implemented, which I'm personally excited for. I'm becoming pretty accomplished at throwing knives, axes and shuriken and if I can throw one half as accurate at a person as I can a board, I will never in this world need a gun. However, I will ask you, what do you think would be the success rate of these weapons you've suggested, made from nearly random parts every time, when produced en masse? Not good imo
  9. Like the guy up here said, find friends to roll with, but unlike he said, I really wouldn't trust anyone else. I would recommend adding some people on steam from the forums, I've had good experiences doing that at least. No one's made friends with me just to kill me when we meet yet. One of the first "stories" I read before ever playing dayz, which has stuck with me, involved the guy meeting another player, playing with him for many hours, laughing and talking, until the guy he met suddenly turned around and shot him in the back without another word. There are players that will kill you for less than being bored with your presence, because there are no repercussions. There are players who will shout vehemently about how low of a person a KOS bandit is in the worst holier-than-though way they can, because there are no repercussions. I had a guy earlier today run up to me shouting "friendly, friendly" before making a not so friendly demand that I surrender while aiming his gun at me. And that is why the sawed-off shotgun is not a weak weapon... wrong thread. anyways, find some friends. finally there's this cool app one of my friends showed me, smartphone or PC, called iZurvive (i know it's stupid sounding) but it's a full map of chernarus that you can add people to groups and then set waypoints for eachother to meet up. Addendum: Speaking of repercussions, as much as people complain about the other side, it's extremely realistic. Some dude could go kill 30 people, sneak away, and come join you for dinner if there's no law enforcement to speak of, and there isn't in the apocalypse.

Blood on your clothes if you kill someone?

Every time I come back to this post I keep thinking what a great example this is of a wonderful idea that just wouldn't work, for an number of reasons.
  11. crimsonbzd

Blood on your clothes if you kill someone?

No. As it is hard over text and short stories, let me explain this in a little more detail. We'll skip to the first part, where the guy says "friendly." He's already zig-zagging with his weapon equipped. After I'm around the corner, he says, in the same half gleeful twelve year old voice "friendly" before changing his tone to say "put your arms in the air" in a victorious sort of way, while raising his gun fully at the corner I was behind. It was obviously a ploy, and a poorly executed one too.
  12. crimsonbzd

So let me get this straight..

Yeah dude I honestly feel like, to be having this problem, you must be literally following in the footsteps of all 39 people ahead of you. My suggestion: cut straight through the middle of the map when you spawn and hit the towns leading northwest. When I do this, I personally experience closed doors and plenty of zombies. With the current spawn rates of military items, you should be able to hit the military base and nwaf and at least end up with a gun and some bullets. Unless you are an exploiter in search of massive PvP at everyone else's expense, any gun with a clip and bullets is good enough until you find something else. BTW, if you see no zombies and open doors, keep running.
  13. crimsonbzd

Stay away from the shotgun(s), here is why.

yes, thank you. i was listening and realized i didn't have a sig and realized it kinda applies to DayZ in general. But, in the interest a providing the most realistic experience in a simulator, you can reason that even though a person could survive 3 rounds in the chest, he really wouldn't be sprinting like a bat outta hell. That leads me to an idea for the final product (assuming the weapon economy they were talking about makes weapons rare enough) get shot, hobble (some sort of reduced movement speed) until you use a pair of pliers to remove the bullet, bandage, and heal/take painkillers that might be a little too hardcore for this community though
  14. crimsonbzd

Stay away from the shotgun(s), here is why.

am i the only one who thinks if you get shot 3 times, by any bullet, in CoM you should die? Edit: The range on shotguns in this game seems way more realistic than say CoD. I found a player earlier attempting to rob me, and he clearly didn't see the sawed off on my back. One shot, from the sawed off, killed him at a range I thought 2 shots would just scare him away at.
  15. I would like to share with you all a story from my recent pass through Cherno. Upon exiting the city, a fully geared player lazily walks up to me in a zig-zag pattern. He yells "I'm friendly." Not trusting anyone, I dip around the corner, at the same moment he again states. "I'm friendly" however adding in "Now put your arms above your head." So, naturally, I remove my Sawed Off Shotgun from my back, lean around the corner, and put two shells into him. This is the end of my story. Any thoughts on this community? I've noticed a lot of players not really understanding the tactics of Robbery... He would have had me at range, my only other weapon being a .357 magnum. I'm pretty sure he was a server hopper too. His inventory made mine look TINY. Fully geared M4 with an ammo box and 3 double mags, along with a magnum, fnx45, things I didn't even know what they do, all in pristine condition. Which, finally, makes me really happy. I'm a noob to the specific DayZ experience, specifically with dealing with other players, and this has shown me that my own real life experience, albeit not usually so clear-cut life and death, gave me a bit of insight to trump someone geared WAY better than me.

    Robbery vs. Banditry vs. Stupidity

I boo your response and question your intelligence based on this, sir.

    Death Message

I notice people get the definition of "realistic" wrong. The game is in no way designed to be "realistic" by your definition. The game is designed to provide a "realistic" survival scenario, in a video game. The actual realism comes in when you think of the games mechanics. If you find your character bleeding, what do you do...? THAT'S RIGHT CLASS! Put on a bandage. If you're hungry? EAT FOOD thirsty? DRINK about to die of poison? Charcoal tabs. The logic is real, the end-user experience exposes you to realistic variables, the game itself is a game. If you still disagree, ask yourself this. When you were a child, playing with Nerf Guns or whatever, were you able to sprint, jump, and reload your nerf gun perfectly every time without tripping, dropping a dart, or ruining a dart from jamming it in their? No, you weren't. Unless the game is taken so far to add chance of failure variables in almost every action, it won't be "real" it'll be a "game." Furthermore, everyone would bitch that you only needed to drink water for the first 30 or so days of your characters survival, and then climbing a ladder would have a chance to fall rate, which people complain about falling off ladders enough already. Case in point: no matter the game, there are elements that players desire to be consistent and as unrealistic as possible.

Blood on your clothes if you kill someone?

There is an underlying dilemma to the humanity and skins functionality. I will give you a short anecdote of my experience just outside of Cherno earlier. I was moderately geared, most notably a magnum and sawed off with plenty of bullets. As I was leaving cherno, a fully geared player zig-zags up to me and claims he's friendly. Well, I don't believe him, so I dip off around a corner. He then states he's friendly again, but then tells me to put my hands over my head. Not so friendly anymore, so I turned back around the corner and ended his life, and likely all the hours he was server hopping to get completely pristine gear (fully equiped m4, 300 box ammo, 3 double clips, etc) So, morally, would you consider that player or myself to have been the "bad guy?" Your answer: the other guy. So, would you suggest I be labeled in game as a murderer? The only possible way the banditry tracking system could be reintroduced into the standalone is if they designed a system to gauge all player actions dealing with another player. So, in this case, he would have been labeled the bad guy (or more bad than me in the situation) because he had his gun equipped and my hands were empty. But then, what if I had a gun in my hand to protect against players like that? then again, I would be labeled the murderer for protecting myself. Furthermore, even in the supposed system I mentioned above, what if a completely nude player walks up to me, surrenders in front of me, then tells me I have to drop all my stuff or else his sniper buddy will put one in my head from behind? I'm being robbed, but even in that system the game would have no way of knowing those two individuals were working together to label both of them as "bad" for the second guy aiming at me. So, in that case, I would be justified to blow the naked guy's head off and start zig zagging to avoid the sniper. Would you label me a murderer for that? Murder, Banditry, Robbery, Intimidation - these are all definitions of the human mind, and as such are always arguable points. So if there can be one action, taken by only one player, that the game would consider as murder but he can justify - then the system is broken. I will note though that this has been the best system so far, and if the idea were reworked to a simpler basis, I think it would be great. For example, no humanity system, no bandit skins or hero skins, but a system where if you've killed another player, for any reason, blood spatter shows up on your clothes for 10 minutes or so. That way no player is permanently punished or altered for any of their actions, or other people's actions for that matter, however you could tell if someone has killed someone else for a short time afterwards. Again though, even in that exact system I mentioned, there would still be plenty of problems. Ha, double edit: If the blood were to be splattered on the clothes only, this would actually make a great system because you would be able to change clothes and get rid of the effect - given you had an extra change of clothes.
  19. This idea comes from a very old, very dead game called Ultima Online. We're talking 2D figures moving back and forth old. In UO, when you would log out, your character would remain in the world for 5 minutes standing still. So, instead of giving players a timer to wait out to log off, which can always be gotten around using alt f4 or similar means, I would suggest DayZ adopt a similar system. The effect is simple, you are allowed to "exit" any time and anywhere you want. You will remain there for a few minutes, in the position you logged out in, completely open to attack. Not only would this halt combat logging, but it would also prevent ghosting and lessen server hopping. Especially on the server hopping - tell me, would you log out anywhere near an airfield if you were gunna sit there for five minutes after you did so?
  20. If you log out while restrained in handcuffs or while unconscious, you will die. No timer will stop a combat logger, mod proved that. I put a suggestion up that any logout should leave your character logged into the server (completely immune to zombies) but still vulnurable to other players for 5 minutes. This will stop combat logging (or better, if they combat log and you can't find them sitting still in five mintues, they effectively got away) and will prevent ghost killing.

    Death Message

During alpha, I don't think this will be either a priority or even possible. There are too many glitched deaths, and I've died eating cereal, no one nearby. I've died walking down stairs. I've died crouching. I even spawned in once on the coast and fell over dead before graphics actually came on. I like to make little backstories. Choked to death on cereal, tripped on the stairs, sat on my nuts too hard, and froze to death washing up on the coast. If you're dying and you don't know why, it's either a glitch or you're not being perceptive enough of the environment around you. Edit: You were killed by Cripsin' Crunch Cereal via CHOKING You were killed by Gravity via FALL You were killed by Self via NUT TRAUMA You were killed by Life via BULLSHIT Incidentally, I'm guessing it's not in the SA yet, but in the MOD you can "inspect" a corpse to see why they were killed.

    Stealth PVP attacks

I know, I'm chalked full of ideas today. This one was bred from a particular player interaction. It goes like this: I spawned in on the coast, headed to elektro this time looking to see new cherno for the first time. Was picking up some bandages from the hospital (no weapon at all yet) so a guy comes up to me and attacks me. I try punching him in the head, but to no avail. He kills me, and for some reason I spawn near Elektro again. I run back to the hospital, and see the guy just standing there... in a corner... So I walk up to him, punch him in the head a few times until he notices I'm there and shoots me with his gun again. Seems to me since I was next to him, but not on his screen, I should have been able to snap his neck or kidney stab him with a screwdriver or something. I would like to see something like that in the game.

    new update coming next week

I'm not watching the whole thing, asking for a link isn't usually the same as asking to do a research project. Considering the news on the forum is still talking about the stable release of .32, I would assume the SKS is coming to DayZ next week in the form of the next experimental build, which still gives us a couple days to sit around on .32 even if you play experimental. edit: shit, I could be wrong, but I would expect to see some sort of patch notes regarding the next update being tested in experimental before we're ready for another stable release. unless rocket's playing fast and loose all of a sudden.

    Stealth PVP attacks

My point being that, if I had a pair of handcuffs on me I could have handcuffed while he was browsing his inventory he was so oblivious. It doesn't really matter what the modus is - if you sneak up on another player you should be able to insta-kill them if you're not visible on your screen and behind them.
