less militarised more improvised
zaphodity (DayZ) replied to irl-calibre's topic in General Discussion
The wisdown of crowds, people know what they like. I'm all for fashioning my own gear and weapons when no military goodies are available, but this is an apocalyptic shooter, not Home Improvement's Tool Time starring Fred Flinstone and Barney Rubble. As far as 'realism' goes, if there really were zombies running around, they would be annihilated by mother nature within the first month: http://www.cracked.com/article_18683_7-scientific-reasons-zombie-outbreak-would-fail-quickly.html Also, here's some reading material I would recommend, think of the zombie apocalypse, but from the zombies perspective: http://www.amazon.com/I-Zombie-Hugh-Howey/dp/1477401296/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390685873&sr=8-1&keywords=i+zombie+hugh+howey 'I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but the zombie apocalypse will be fought with fire extinguishers an can openers.' - Dean "Rocket" Hall -

Always stop and look around every few minutes or so, especially behind you. Slow and steady, especially in or around towns, this isn't run and gun. Get a headset for voice chat, as you'll rarely get enough time to type anything. Go bush my son, go bush. I discovered a town right in the middle of nowhere that was chockers with loot, and blissfully devoid of Manuel The Bandito's.

I don't give out guns, just food and water. Giving out a gun is begging to be killed.

Greetings Survivors, I was just wondering what types of headsets you guys use. As headsets are a vital ingredient for surviving DayZ, as slow typists don't tend to live very long. Here's my headset : Zombies are comin', better switch to light speed Chewwy.

Thanks DayZ but I'm afraid I'm staying
zaphodity (DayZ) replied to Jonah_Hobbes's topic in General Discussion
I'll give you a game hint. People, well, mankind mostly. Has feared the night ever since there was a mankind. So, when a server resets, that's when you go get food and ammo. At night time. Everyone else is hiding, which means, more for you. Newt in Aliens stayed alive because she kept under the radar. The Marines, weren't so lucky. Everyone's out in the daytime, not night. See ya later sucker. -

I been living deep out in the bush with my M4 and 44 Magnum. Only go into towns for beans, ammo and sardines. Meanwhile, I talk to the trees : -
my 7 Dayz of Player Interaction..

I like this games for its ability to show people what they really are. Dumb, frightened, panicky animals. Video game wise, best $30 I have spent in years. Excellent hiking simulator. -
SA Encounters - Alotta Guns Airfield Doorway ambush
zaphodity (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
If you're reading this message, this goes out to the dude I ambushed in the hangar doorway right inside "Alotta Guns" Airfield. A new-spawn passed by in his birthday suit just before you rocked up, but I don't kill new-spawns, so I let him run past. I dumped a whole mag of M4 rounds into you as you entered the doorway. I took your FNX 45, M4 ammo and a few other bits and pieces, but left you with enough to get by. I was going to finish you off with the Magnum PI but ran out of ammo, so I finished you off with an axe instead. Thanks for doing the righty and not combat logging. Cheers. -
I like it. Always good to have more than just one perspective I reckon.

They're just pining for the fjords. -
Dearest Uncle Rocket, I was just curious to know if (or when) players will have the ability to mark points on maps. Also, when (or if) GPS units will be part of the game ? Someone throw me a bone here. Cheers.

GPS and in-game map markers
zaphodity (DayZ) replied to zaphodity (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I mean marking it with a point that also I mean marking a point on a map, that also has GPS point on it. I don't mean fast travel or anything like that. I wanna know where I've hidden my buried treasure (loot). Mayhaps I have been running along DayZ coastlines too long ? -
I wish the arrow will be implemented as soon as possible
zaphodity (DayZ) replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, couldn't resist. -
Some patient, and creative soul has been gathering gas cannisters together and putting them in large piles...then shooting them. It was probably just Rocket "experimenting".

I have an idea for helping with the KOS problem. Rocket should read.

It's human nature that fails to effectively deal with KOS. -

"Come Out With Your Hands Up" (First Encounter)
zaphodity (DayZ) replied to Robert Allison's topic in General Discussion
Part I like the most about the game is hearing the legitimate panic in the other players voices during the initial seconds of an encounter. Gotta be doing something right for that to happen. Pocket Rocket and the Devo-team have outdone themselves. -
Sort of like standing behind someone and looking over their shoulder when they take leak.

Yes. Because it provides greater variety. No. Because it encourages hacking.
