PC Gamer stream with Rocket and friends!
Zakificus replied to Brenelael's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Private password protected server. They are doing some interviewing stuff in there too, so it makes sense. Don't wanna get sniped while asking rocket about his plans for the mod haha. There are a few other players though. I've been watching for a while. -
I would really love to see a mechanic implemented to booby trap tents/vehicles. I find a tent, take whatever precious gear I want / can carry. Then rig a hand grenade to it so that the next person to open the tent explodes, destroying them, the tent, and everything inside / near by. Find a vehicle I can't use, same sort of thing, put a grenade in it, rigged to the door or something. Obviously it would need some kind of subtle indicator that it was trapped. Nothing remotely obvious or the whole point is lost, but something that if you take 10-15 seconds to inspect the thing you'll be ok. From the other side of things, maybe you have an extra gun, rig it to the door so that it fires a single shot the next time it's opened. Give it a random chance of hitting different areas of the body. So you don't always die, maybe you get shot in the arm or leg and then are free to loot. If you inspect the object in question, you can find the grenade/gun/etc and have a chance at defusing it if you want to. Obviously this could go wrong and fire anyway. Require the toolbox to set up/ take down these traps.

I kind of like this idea. It adds challenge to respawning and getting back to your stuff. Especially if you're in a group and have a 'base' somewhere with all your precious loot. Suddenly everyone is afraid of dying, because they may have NOTHING to come back to, and no more re-gearing. If not for maps (not everyone needs to mark it, and could just remember coords) definitely for GPS. You could argue nowadays EVERYTHING digital is recorded somewhere. Hell, my iPad and cell phone are constantly updating GPS location or asking me for permission to. It stands to reason that the a players most frequented locations could be determined with their GPS unit. Then when you look at the Map and have someone elses GPS it has an overlay of where they spent most of their time. Camps become less safe, snipers would need to find new nests, etc etc. It adds an entirely new dimension of competitive gameplay and strategy.

I would love it if rocket came up with some awesome trolling mechanism for duped items. It would probably be more work than it would be worth. But find a way to recognize when items are duplicated, and have the players doing it: -Start twitching when aiming, like with painkillers but it can't be stopped. -Night-vision is defunct and keeps flickering and showing static blackness like it's dying -Blood transfusions make you sick and don't heal much health -Magazines jam after a shot or two / get stuck in the gun and can't be reloaded It would be even more hilarious when they all start coming in reporting bugs, outing themselves as the idiots they are haha

Kinda funny anecdote about the other day I thought I'd share. I was on a moderately populated server yesterday. I decided to hit Stary and look for anything good in the tents. Didn't find anything worth picking up besides a few bandages to replenish my supplies. I have pretty much everything I need except for a toolbox, nvg, and ghillie in this lifetime, so I decided to check the houses in the area for the suit. So I made it through all of those with no luck and no aggro. Last stop was to be the convenience store before heading out into the wilderness again. Just as I round the corner of the church near the store, I walk straight into the LOS of a zed. Crouch running past him, I try to be quick but quiet, and still get 3 or 4 more on me. At this point I'm almost to the store so I figure I can lose them inside while I check for loot. I run in the back door take a quick look, and just as I'm about to head into the front of the store and I see a survivor turning with his lee enfield now facing into the back room. At this point it's worth mentioning I have my character set to use a zombie skin. So when this guy turned to the back room he essentially saw a zombie, with all kinds of equipment, crouch running down the hallway. As soon as I saw him, turned my mic on, and said "Nope-nope-nope-nope, see ya" as I waddled past him and crouch ran out the door at the other end of the back hall. I had a M14, and could easily have circled around and waited for him, but he clearly had an opportunity to shoot me at least twice between my seeing him and then still slowly making my way out the back. He didn't pull the trigger, either out of confusion or niceness, either way, we both get to live another day.

The Ultimate Zombie Apocalypse Weapon
Zakificus replied to Yeung-Jin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
.22 was the caliber of choice for mob executions for a long time. Small quiet guns, and great for head shots. At close range they have more than enough energy to enter the skull, but not enough to break through the other side in most cases. This would in fact cause it to bounce around tearing apart more of the brain. They have very little stopping power so for anything other than a head shot they are worthless on any target larger than rabbits and squirrels. But with enough accuracy a .22 can be pretty damn deadly. -
Server is running an incorrect version of the Server Side Application
Zakificus replied to Dr_Wasabi's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This started happening to me right after updating to new beta. I installed it manually and then connected and it has been giving me this error ever since. -
I would think it is possible to implement a series of checks before you are logged in. Automatically despawn loot in the area if a player logs in, just like zombies are despawned in log-in. Then you prevent players from spawning IN loot areas, and at least force them to have to walk a ways there. Maybe use like 50m radius or something, that way they can't spawn just outside or something. While they're at it, check for player within 50m or something. If a player is present, one of two things, either force them to wait X seconds/minutes longer or give them the option to randomly relocate somewhere within that area. This presents moderate solutions to both issues of loot farming and spawning right on other players, without adding any downsides to those who disconnect for good reasons.

I for one don't see a need to turn DayZ into a masturbation simulator. Then we are presented with the highest level of meta gameplay: "Hey Dawg, I heard you were sexually anxious and like jacking off, so we added jacking off to DayZ, so you can jack off while you jack off to yourself jacking off to stave off sexual anxiety."
-
I haven't had problems with this at all. If you are up to date with the beta and the latest patch you shouldn't have any issues at all. I would just recommend not doing it on a laggy server. You wouldn't want to lag right as you're switching and get stuck out there haha. But just staying up to date solves it in my experience.

Also, AS50 can use both AS50 and M107 magazines.

Do military zombies drop all kinds of ammo?
Zakificus replied to Henyo10's topic in New Player Discussion
I believe they also have an EXTREMELY rare chance to drop NVG, though I've only heard this, never actually saw it happen yet. -

This happened to me earlier today just after finding an fnl fal anpv s4. Except I guess vertical height was preserved so I spawned 12 feet in the air. Gravity did not approve.

That is the perfect gun for DayZ. Ammo is plentiful' date=' it's silenced so killing Zed's is easy, M203 for touchy situations when you don't want to go around a corner because you know someone is there - what's wrong with it? And I just referenced that weapon. If you go to that website, there are plenty of other great weapons of all types including many Russian weapons that I am surprised have not been implemented. [/quote'] And what are you going to do with that 203? Noob tube them when they come around? Yeah this is still ArmA, your rounds don't work that way. 203 is useless in Day Z. That's pretty spot on. I was with a guy who had an M16 M203. He turned on me while we were in a barn. I was on the bottom, he was up top. He fired it right down next to me and it barely did anything.

So, the last week I've been working on my scouting and tracking abilities a little bit. Sticking up north stalking between Stary, NWAF, and Devil's Castle, trying to follow and avoid the grizzled vets of the north haha. During this time, I have noticed a few things that surprised me. On high population servers ( > 30 players ), I may see one player at any of those given locations over two hours of sneaking around them. On low population servers, it seems like someone is stumbling around those areas every half hour or so. Just a guess, but I think most people assume these areas are hot spots and that on high pop. servers they are guaranteed death. On low pop. servers people think they can get away with a run and flock to these places much more readily. Either that or I've just had weird luck. On a related note, does anyone ever go to NEAF? Surprisingly few people in that area. So far only have found one other person in Krasnostav. I suppose they might all tend to hang in Berezino though, it has those tents, the two shops, 6 apartment buildings, the school, the hospital, etc etc. That is surprisingly empty too though, I don't know why everyone stays on the south coast. Are there any other looting behaviors people have been surprised by?
-
Yeah, one thing I noticed about NEAF is that it's a damn snipers dream. Especially if you have a .50 Cal. Hills and trees all over the place with hundreds of clear open meters between you and the targets. Also, it's a fantastic place to stop for meat. Usually a couple of cows and a goat in the area.
-
18 Hours is a long time, especially if a clan is on your server, sometimes they sweep the entire north in a few hours finding dozens of tents/vehicles. 99% chance someone thought "hey this spot on the map is secluded/ popular for tents" and just stole it all after you moved. If they had a vehicle, even more likely they took everything you had. Also, could have just dropped what they didnt take on the ground, to be mean.

I found 3 of those yesterday at a few different heli crashes. Only one had any magazines left around it though. It's a pretty nice gun though, fantastic for CQC.

Balancing PvP/Bandits + End-game Goals
Zakificus replied to nashable's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I really like the idea of adding more random scripted events. Even if it were just something like instead of having heli crashes randomly appear, they fly around a bit first, perhaps have routes that cross a few bigger towns, then engines fail and they crash. Could lead to players watching them and tracking them down. If you wanted to get really crazy have a secondary military team spawn at a corner of the map and make their way toward the crash and attempt to set up a perimeter. Players could attack them or track them to the crash from a distance. Just some ideas. I think random small scripted events could breathe a lot of life into game. I personally would prefer the more subtle things (fly over before crash) than huge events (army unit and perimeter). -

Firearms and the Ammunition System
Zakificus replied to panzer jager's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Im not sure how extensive this will get though. I've found many similar rounds that won't allow you to switch the magazine type. Kinda random luck if it works for your particular weapon ammo choices so far. -
Ammo can be repacked for different guns.

I like a lot of these ideas. They make it significantly more appealing for teamwork, but if you're desiring the lone-wolf path, it makes it so only the tough and careful players survive. Not everyone could survive on their own, so these changes would reflect that. It means that those who are bandits, or lonewolf players, wouldn't be punished, and those who thrived in this system, would be even more of a threat, since it would mean they overcame the odds of much more challenging gameplay.
