2 quick questions - bear with me, I'm new

This would be a neat experiment. I'm sure it would be tricky getting 50 people coordinated for it, but definitely doable and interesting.

Exploring apartments in Cherno. Found 3 unlooted dead bodies. Got an Alice pack, cooked meat and other assorted foods, m1911, almost full set of tools, m4 camo, lots of ammo, med supplies, and a tent. I gotta say, sometimes bandits not looting is a great thing. Either that or someone dropped a grenade on accident haha.

To top it off I saw two guys outside run, aggro a zed then dc. Two headshots when they popped back in game. I love killing exploiters haha.

Yeah, it is more than enough to let me skip the normal loot grind and go chopper hunting.

I wanted to see if anyone else has been experiencing the same thing I have. Starting earlier today (hours ago) I looted my way around the map. Started in berenzio, neaf, nwaf, Stary, etc. hit like 30 different high loot areas all over the map. A few minutes ago I got back to berenzio, and have found the exact same loot piles from before. I know because the first time around I found a few good things and dropped items to fit them. For example there was a convenience store with a piece of raw meat and civilian clothes in a pile. This doesn't occur naturally. It was my understanding that loot is supposed to despawn when a player enters the area if it is old 'old loot' then respawn after a timer. At this rate it seems like the only way I'd ever get new loot is to clear it all with loot piling, which frankly I consider an exploit and am not going to do. Am I just experiencing a bugged server or is this just how it works for everyone at the moment?

I'm in no rush. Current build is stable enough to play. Bugs take time to fix, features take time to add. I think "when it's done" is a perfect time frame. Besides, I'm sure rocket could use a break for a few days. An escape from the endless onslaught of complaints always helps the development cycle.

That's like saying speeding is okay because everyone does it. Inability to enforce for everyone is not an excuse for people to do it. Try telling a cop you were just going 85 in a 60 because everyone else does it too. Lol -

Yeah. Even with a great sniper rifle and the thermal scoped l85a2 I'm still terrified when I move up to loot or find a new spot after I take out a target. Especially in high traffic areas like nwaf. I have no way of knowing if there is another player just meters away in a tree, or someone sneaking to the airfield from behind me. Every time I shoot I immediately switch to my 1911 and check around me for incoming threats. Actually there was this one time I was at neaf and was about to shoot, and my target just dropped and I heard a shot from near by. The sniper only got one of the two guys though so I didn't expose my position. Eventually he ran down and got killed at close range bye the guy he shot's partner haha. -

Lol, well noobs don't hide, so they have to die. Survival of the fittest. Besides, you get better by learning from your mistakes. I'm training a generation of better survivalists haha ^_^ -
So earlier in the week I found an AS50, and I've been working on shooting it at long ranges, and I really want to try it in actual in-game scenarios, take a super long shot and have my buddy in at close range to loot right after it is all clear. Are there any servers with a view distance greater than 1200m? All day I've been searching and barely have found any servers with 1000m distances, much less 1600m. Most seem to have range limits between 600m and 800m, some seem like they are about 400m view distance. I figure I have the gun for now, and why not use it where it takes some legitimate skill to hit your target instead of closer range super easy shots.

Kill count is okay, but I like the shot being challenging haha. For now I've settled for 800m-900m. Shooting fish in a barrel isn't fulfilling for me.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I sit in a good spot watching a likely point of egress for at least an hour. Most kills are in fact players who are sloppy. I know for certain I miss plenty of good players who stick to cover, follow tree lines, etc. If you are motionless long enough or move predicitably enough, you die, that's the game. Even nwaf, I get the guys running across the tarmac drawing zombies into the firehouse to shoot them when they slow down. I don't get the guy sneaking in the trees to the barracks or using cover to make it into the air tower or firehouse. Be aware of your surroundings, think before you leave cover, and even the best sniper with the strongest rifle can't touch you. If you are worried, scout around the long way before you go somewhere, or god forbid you go somewhere else. I've gone to the airfield, checked barracks, and got a bad feeling about the hangers so I just left. -
First of all, thermal scope is the greatest thing I have ever used haha. I bumped into this guy in a barn north of zelenogorsk. He said friendly, asked if I needed anything. I said no and that I was just heading north. He said he was going south. I hung in the barn while he left. I watched out the little peep hole to see him run 100m turn past a bush, and aim his m16 back at the barn. I don't know if he was in range but I said "friendly huh" and he ran another 100m to a hay bail. I fired one burst past his head, he popped a smoke grenade, but with the thermal I had a clear view of him as he ran off into the woods. Popped some warning shots past him as he ran and disappeared in the trees. The thermal was so helpful in spotting him hiding in the bush, I'd probably be dead otherwise haha.

This. The wiki would answer about 90% of questions I see on here.

In about 150-200 hours of play seen like 7 m14 (my favorite non sniper weapon so far) 1 dmr, 1 m24, 1 m4 sd, 1 m9 sd, tons of ak variants, a handful of m16s, 2 gps, 4 or 5 Ghillie suits, 1 m249, 3 bizon sd, 2 fn fal, 1 fn fal anpv, and 1 cz 550. Finally yesterday I found an l85a2 and an as50 at the same crash site. I still haven't even seen svd, nvg or a rangefinder. Using just my opinion and experience, I think the loot tables are good and well balanced. Without duping and/or farming stuff all day, and without emptying out areas to try and force more loot to spawn, the things that are rare, seem pretty damn rare to me. Back to the topic, I love sniping, and just finding some of these rifles is reward enough. But that feeling, of waiting motionless for an hour, then seeing a groups of 3 or 4 guys sneaking into your crosshairs. Probably the biggest adrenaline rush I've ever gotten in a game. I can't imagine taking them out, does it stack the odds in favor of people who find them, yeah, but that adds even more challenge and a higher level of gameplay. And yeah some people exploit the game to dupe them or find them faster, but I say they are the ones missing out, and will be the first people to get bored and move on, leaving this game for those who enjoy it as it is intended.

Please confirm if real rocket or not
Zakificus replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hacks are in every game. It is a fact. If battle eye keeps up to date it will help with the more obvious ones. Then it is up to server admins and the community to work together to identify hackers and ban/report them. With luck that will get rid of most of them. Games like counter strike have endured door years in spite of hackers. I highly doubt this project will be destroyed by hackers if we all band together. Remind rocket that hackers might be able to ruin our day, but we won't let them ruin this mod. -
I have a question about the as50/m107 and vehicles. On the wiki it says it takes two shots to the engine block to disable vehicles. Is that accurate? Or do most vehicles go down in a single shot, while some of the more heavy duty ones take two shots? There was a guy doing circles on an airfield in a pickup earlier but I didn't wanna give away my position by shooting and only getting one hit before he got behind cover/out of sight.

Found a crash site with an AS50 and an L85A2. Both of my ideal guns that I was hoping to one day use, much less both together. But I don't have a Ghillie.. I am now basically paranoid that every step I take is going to get me killed haha.

Officially the most paranoid I've ever been
Zakificus replied to Zakificus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah, I was talking to my girlfriend when I found them, and was explaining to her why both of these guns mean that anyone who sees me with them will shoot everything they have at me to get them from me. -

Now to find a Ghillie so I can actually hide. My greatest mission yet lies before me! These next few days are gonna be fun. Hopefully I make it to the weekend. Then I can really enjoy this stuff. -
Tents make good bait for snipers. Ditch one where in a clearing that looks like a legit hiding spot, pick a hill and wait. Sooner or later someone always gets a little greedy.
