  1. sounds like you're being haunted
  2. i like how crouch walking is louder than shooting a gun now
  3. This game is so boring now. crawling around EVERYWHERE, every big city is so quiet, everywhere is so quiet now, no pvp, and zombies have ridiculous god like senses now. OP got it right. this game is so effing boring now.
  4. while i can understand that first person is "clunky" to some who started off playing from 3rd person, i still can't agree with allowing third person at all. i've always played in first person view, but today i was enlightened. im scavenging a city and see a guy with a winchester enter a store. i take my trusty makattack and get close, but can't see in the store. then i get an idea, and for the first time ever i go into 3rd person view mode, ALT look over the wall and wait for him to stop at a pile of items - all from the safety and comfort of being behind cover. the part where i calmly walk in and put two shots into his head goes without saying. then i sort of just sat back in my chair and thought of all those deaths that were probably due to this, and all the kills i probably could have scored had i been using TPV. but mostly, i felt like i just cheated. there had been no adrenaline rush or heart pounding worry that i would be staring straight into a barrel when i went in - i knew it was a completely safe kill already. i mean, how is this even debatable? i'm REALLY confused as to why servers have this enabled. here's a vid of a sniper abusing third person view - skip to around 1:27 just... seriously? if you dont feel like watching, basically it's a sniper on a tower that has low walls providing cover. the sniper is watching targets approach from complete safety thanks to third person view. If first person view was forced then the sniper would have had to expose himself by going into a crouch to look around for targets, that or have a spotter to call targets and directions which would promote teamwork. another vid posted by someone in the thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pla...Frs#t=266s ps. i dont actually expect this to be a productive thread since it seems the majority of the DayZ community is for 3rd person view. You know what other game comes to mind right about now? funk soul brother? all points bulletin. edit: forgot to add that painkillers are not as detrimental in third person as it is in first person. having trouble aiming because of the shakes? go to third person, no more screen shaking. i hardly think that this is intended in DayZ. even if aim is shaking from pain, its no where near as bad as having to go thru it in first person, especially if crosshairs are enabled. that's two now, cheat view and ignoring pain.

    Happy birthday rocket!

    happy birthday rocket!
  6. how is it bad? with head bob turned off everything is just.. flat. flat and smooth. it becomes any other FPS in terms of screen shaking/wobbling/whatever so i dont understand how you are getting sick

What part of this is cheating? Cheating is' date=' by definition, doing something outside the rules or boundaries of a game or sport to gain an advantage or alter the outcome. Third person view is not cheating, as it is available to everyone if it is enabled in a server. You are attempting to describe a feature you do not like or agree with as something outside the bounds of fair and legitimate play. There are servers in which a player's situational awareness is forcibly crippled by a lack of third person view availability, and should those servers be full, a spot will either open shortly, or other servers can be made available. Finally, if you're in a position where third person view is the reason you died, you're bad enough at ArmA that nothing and no one can save you. When you have 225km^2 to plan your axis of advance, and you let it come down to whether or not someone could see you over a chest high wall, you're the bad player, not your opponent. If you're that bad, then after you've crusaded for the successful removal of 3rdperson, you'll need a new scapegoat to blame on just being bad at a game. [/quote'] you talk about arma2 not being the same game as bf3/css/etc yet you make this game out to be baby mode at the same time by advocating cheatview. "getting down and dirty" IS something that arma 2 does well specifically BECAUSE its not like the other FPS and accordingly its more rewarding. As described multiple times in this thread, TPV is not equal for all players in all scenarios. Being able to see past walls and around corners without looking is beyond the realm of realism and gives advantage to a player when there shouldnt be any. You can't do it in real life, you shouldn't be able to do it here. this is a very simple concept that even lesser games like COD:MW understands. The first person view may be limiting in arma2, but it is well within the realm of realism though hampered by the games engine. Given a choice however, rather than have a magical eye that lets me see things i shouldnt, and having the knowledge that other players have this magical eye as well, i'd rather choose first person view because it acts as the great equalizer in this equation. In real life, you dont worry if the enemy can see you or not when he physically cant. this "crutch" is an abusive mechanic that i suspect was never meant for serious multiplayer but rather for single player. DayZ creates an illusion that is atmospheric and realistic enough to produce the genuine emotion of fear, and cheatview is nothing but a big fuck you to that. by advocating the use of third person in a game that touts itself as a military sim you are spitting in the face of what sets arma2 apart from the rest.

here's some weight to the argument as already mentioned' date=' your FOV is a lot narrower than it should be, third-person viewmode (TPV) compensates for it by allowing you to see the small area around your character as already mentioned, sometimes it's hard to tell whether your character is standing or crouching. since we don't have any UI elements displaying current stance, and even making one step in an upright position will aggro nearby zombies, TPV allows to make less unnecessary mistakes there's this thing, I'm not sure how to call it (English is not my native language), basically, whenever you stand on an edge of something in real life, you don't have to stare at your feet to know that one more step will cause you to fall, you can feel it. in video games there's no such possibility. there are many examples of similar situations. TPV allows you to be aware of your character's body's position at all times. another thing you can do in real life and can't do in FPS games, peek over or around obstacles (walls, for example). since there's no climbing or jumping in ArmA, I don't see how seeing over a wall that's as high as my character is "breakin' imme-shun". same goes for lying behind a rock. are you seriously saying that being able to see what's behind the rock is unrealistic? like, I can't just pop my head from any side without having to expose half of my body in real life? and the last thing, the guys from Bohemia have said they preferred to have both available for the reasons stated above. they let you choose how to play, so what's up with this desire to force everyone to play the game the way you think is right? make your own mod, get thousands of people to play it and then force anything you want on them [/quote'] all of these things you've mentioned are valid to the point that cheatview is a great visual aid and no one can argue against that. the problem is that while cheatview helps out in a lot of respects it also enables abuse/cheating. nothing can outweigh that fact.

Yes currently EU 7 and NY 2 run 3rd person without the crosshair (No names pop up). Its up to the server provider really. I struggle to believe no US based servers are running FPV only' date=' but if more are wanted I think Jonnerz said in another thread he was putting up a new US based box with 2-4 server capacity. Maybe ask him nicely for a FPV Veteran server. [/quote'] Jonnerz, be a dear :)

youre looking at this differently than i am. the outcome of the situation i described does not matter, it's just a scenario that demonstrates that the fact the players can see each other when they shouldn't be able to will influence their actions in an unrealistic (silly) way. that's the very core of it - it's unrealistic. the freedom of killing other people plays a large role in DayZ and the fear and tension related to it is reduced to silliness with third person involved. as to your scenario, it sounds a lot like the apartments in the north part of cherno. and as it happens, yeah it's happened to me before. while scavenging I heard footsteps coming up the stairs and no moans so i camped a room and killed two people as they tried to enter the room. boy am i glad they didnt bother to peek around the corner with cheat view on, cause they definitely knew i was in the building somewhere.

this is starting to become off topic now. what you described is a mod. it's using arma 2, but it's not arma 2. where in arma 2 do you see zombies? this is a mod, and it can be considered a different game. have a look at the mods/maps in other games, like DotA for warcraft 3, or fantasy mods for Mount and Blade.

Flawed logic. They would be a lot more careful' date=' especially if they have some good items with them just because they know they are both visible to each other. If they are any smart they will back off or try to flank each other with a really wide flank. Besides you can't see over everything in the game - I bet 3rd person view won't be helpful at all when inside a buidling with narrow corridors. [/quote'] i think you're missing the point. HOW the scenario turns out doesnt matter. it's the fact that they can see each other when they shouldn't be able to and how it influences their decisions. in fact, this reminds me of a time when i was young and using wall hack in counterstrike and i squared off against another guy using wall hack. i stayed behind a corner and waited for him, he spotted me and waited at his corner. i start to flank, he moves accordingly. then we both realize were both aware the other is hacking and the only thing that comes to mind at that point is, "wow, keeping up this charade feels pretty fucking stupid." in other words, immersion is out the window. as to your second point - 3rd person view would be helpful to whoever is camping at the corner of the corridor because he'll have the advantage of the first shot and using lean. in your scenario all the camper has to do is land a quick shot or two to start the bleeding and watch to see what the guy stuck in the corridor will do. using lean, its very possible to make those shots for free. whatever happens, the camper has the option of reacting to whatever his opponent does. but let's be realistic, because unless there's a building that actually is just a long corridor, there's going to be rooms on the side. rooms with windows you can peek into from outside using TPS, or just walking up right next to the doorway and alt viewing inside to see your opponents position.

"i think there is a good choice of servers with 3rd and plenty with force first person view." if i recall correctly, only the EU servers and beta servers are using this. it puts me in a bad position of playing with the rules i want, but with lag, or going thru the hassle of getting the beta patch and getting dayz to work with it - id rather have dayz just work without going thru any installation ordeal again. "It's a feature not a cheat and I for one am glad that I can switch to it when I'm running around to see my character." i wont argue against aesthetics, i do it too when running long distances. but the option to abuse the third person view is there, and used correctly, it IS a cheat. you could argue, "oh but everyone can use it so it's fair." well, no it's not, because in the scenario where i snuck up on the guy, he was too far inside to be able to alt look to see me where i was in a position to see him. consider this scenario - a small square block with two opponents on either side. the block is small enough that both can alt view to tell where the other opponent is so he can adjust his own position accordingly. does this not sound absolutely retarded to you? they would be circling each other because they *cant* see each other but at the same time they *can*.

    Humanity -50 000, what do?

  16. i see pellet rounds get a lot of flak, so im wondering: 1. why does everyone think pellets are bad? do they have worse stopping power even at optimal range compared to slugs? 2. in fact, what IS the optimal range of pellets? what's the optimal range of slugs? do these values differ depending on whether its a winchester or m1014/remington? 3. do winchester rounds have less power vs 1014 rounds, both slug/pellets?

    Bandit tips?

"tips on being a bandit"? really? have you ever played a first person shooter where you kill things? do that. jesus.

    Development Road Map?

i wholeheartedly agree with the gentleman who suggested you keep the community opinions out of this. Just seeing all these PVE threads - ugh. It's like we should all be playing a third person shooter with ID/range finder on mouseover. SOUNDS A LOT LIKE ALL POINTS BULLETIN TO ME. honestly, the reason why this game has me and my brother addicted is the sandbox nature of the game. theres no mission objectives, no fed ex quests. the DayZ experience is made by the players themselves. all the game needs is some more limited resources to make conflict inevitable. in other words, more sandboxy stuff. just give us a world rich with tools that enable players to change the world and it keeps the spirit of player driven experience alive. like, forts, i dunno. fuck premade factions, that shit should be player made. and FUCK npcs and quests.

IF this was an actual game...

Purchase only. I guess you could consider DayZ an mmo, but it differs because it's sandbox and the players make the experience what it is. DayZ doesn't need "new content" and other bullshit, it's good enough to stand on its own. I dont trust this current community. way too many people who think in terms of PVE/PVP. in a first person shooter. ive never heard people complaining of the lack of pve content in counterstrike but whatever. If the current community had any say in the final product there would be compromises leading to a shitty game.
