    Player Animations

    Once the new animations for the zombies are in, can I suggest fixing the animations for the player models? Some of them are ludicrously bad or inappropriate and they are all far too long. For example, I just died while attempting to throw a can through a door to distract the zeds outside. Not a residential door. A double door for a mid-size shed. I messed up the throw and it hit the wall above the door, drawing a nearby zed towards me. While attempting to throw a second can, he was able to close 20m, run around to the other entrance, come inside and begin hitting me. In the time it took to pull my pistol and shoot him he had me bleeding, broke my leg and knocked me out. I have seen actually mentally handicapped people throw with more efficiency and alacrity than this. It is awful. tl;dr - Please god fix the Arma throwing animations. It is a can. This is not shot-put. Force the hud marker for throwing -but not for grenades- in all difficulties.

    Instant Death

    I was in a barn, the one with grey metal paneling and a catwalk around the inside of the outer wall. I had attracted about a dozen zeds, who were slowly approaching (should have been out of range) I popped a smoke grenade inside to distract them, turned to ran. Was hit once (didn't see if it was actually a zed) and died. Was at full health, blood counter read 11820 just before the You Are Dead screen. In a shed just north of the SW airfield. version 1.71 Server - Didn't really check, US 3 or 4 I think.
  3. Something I've seen in this thread repeatedly: We are alpha testers. Ok, so we're alpha testers. How come we don't have a comprehensive list of in game features for each patch? The patch notes are useful, but they are hardly all-inclusive. Half the time I don't even know whats working and whats broken to report bugs when I see them. I understand there is a difference between public and internal testing. But it would help the playerbase to have the needed to do the job. Yesterday I got blown up by a satchel bomb. I didn't even know that shit was in the mod. Is it? Or was it a hacker? I don't know, but if I had a reference list of features and items, I could find out quite easily. If devs don't feel its worth the effort, thats certainly understandable. But it would certainly aid in public testing, and cut down on a lot of forum spam asking about features.

    The last patch -1.57- was kind of rough, but it was still fun as hell. This is one of the best mods I've ever seen and its a 3 or 4 week old alpha. All my salutes to you and your team. Carry on.

    I wonder, are the zeds attracted to the smell of player death? Or do players let out a horrific scream when they die?

A small, weak starter flashlight.. kind of like an aimable glow stick would be pretty nice but to be fair most of the problems with starting at night are because of the hideously inflated Zed counts. Before 1.57 I played at night all the time, and had a blast, now.. not at all. I appreciate realism, but a pitch black screen.. I mean what are you supposed to do with that when you need to navigate past 20 zeds that spawn constantly? You can carry the flare, but then you'll just get slapped by a player. Yeah its a choice, kind of like shooting yourself in the foot or the crotch. Invariably the answer for most people is neither. But anyway, night time should be a lot better once the zed population thins out to a tolerable level.

    Allow stmovement!

    Whichever way it ends up going, this mod should probably be allowed or disallowed on ALL servers. Having some players running around with this is while others are not is pretty imbalanced. Individual servers running this could work, but only if they required STmovement in order to connect.
  8. I gotta disagree with the OP, for the most part. CS persistence is a valuable part of the game, at least at this stage. This is a sandbox game and the majority of the "value" that is assigned to different aspects of the game IS created by the players. If players choose to create value on a specific server, well that is an option too. Personally I find that CS persistence brings a certain level of chaos and uncertainty to the game that really heightens the value of the game play. You can log in a "safe spot" but if you switch servers, there could very well be a half-dozen bandits over the next hill that will jack your shit. Each server is in effect its own little world. Jumping worlds is definitely a powerful advantage that can be abused, but it also comes with its own risks. Frankly the ability to create "safe zones" and massive fortifications would result in a certain level of stagnancy in the game. Would the game really be better if gangs of players could fortify the areas around the best spawns? IMO no. As for transporting equipment between servers and the subsequent devaluation of rare spawns, I think you are exaggerating the problem. Even with a large group.. its not unusual for one person to wipe 3-4 players out of a 6 man group. Resulting in every tent. On every server. Despawning. Yes, they can go get that loot, but you are talking about A LOT of time invested in collecting and maintaining a stockpile of loot in this fashion. And, you know what.. I can get EQ that is powerful enough to cope with anyone in under 30 minutes. So if thats how they choose to play the game, well its a sandbox. More power too em.

    M1911 vs. Revolver

    RL ammunition is interchangeable between many guns, some with different calibers - You can fire.38 special out of a .357 for example. Magazines however are a different story. I would love to see an ammunition management system put in. IE you can collect 100 5.56mm rounds for your m16a2 but if you've only got one clip, you're SOL when you piss off 50 zeds :-P This would make weapons with internal magazines (pump shotguns, revolvers, the winchester 1866) somewhat more valuable for ease of use. Although realistically the reload times for those weapons isn't long enough right now.
  11. I've been a bandit for a while now -no choice, character is bugged- and I can say that having everyone shoot you on sight regardless of what you are doing, or how you are playing detracts from game play. Anything that encourages a little more communication/RP is cool in my book.

    DayZ Update 1.5.7

    The new sounds are awesome, I didn't feel like the panic sound played too often, but then I just sneak around most of them. Numbers feel good, would help - especially when you're starting out- if the spawn rate was a little bit slower though. Should be able to get away with getting constantly jumped by spawns after you down like 40-50 of them :-P But anyway, the zeds sound great, and are quite dangerous now. I love it.

    Should we scrap bandit models?

    Yes. Makes little sense from a realism standpoint and PVP mechanics are better handled by players. It boxes you into a role b/c being a bandit forces you to shoot everyone on sight. (They will sure as hell shoot you if you don't.)
  14. Arma II is a mixed bag -in relation to this mod. It brings a lot of things to the table that most games don't have, including massive scale, realistic weapons modeling and obnoxious physics bugs :-) But hey.. no game is perfect, least of all a mod in its alpha stages. Show some tolerance for the parts that aren't picture perfect and you'll find a real jewel here. This game brings hard, uncompromising game play that will leave your heart pounding like a jackhammer. It won't appeal to everyone, but thats hardly surprising. In most cases, mass appeal and mediocrity are synonymous.

    The Importance of CHKilroy

    Been playing arma II for a while, got back into it, started looking around for cool mods on armaholic. Saw this, looked pretty legit and not stupidly complicated to install (I'm looking at you ACE MOD) so I checked it out. As of 1 1/2 weeks after starting I've talked about a half-dozen bros into trying the mod. They've gotten 3-4 others from another mod we all play to try it out too. Kotaku, youtube etc.. no doubt contributes but never underestimate word of mouth.

    Finally a use for all those empty whiskey bottles! I could spend hours hitting people with bottles of urine and then watching them get mauled by zombies.
