What do we really want as far as zombies?

I once read a book, and looking back, it was extremely similar to DayZ. The Remaining featured zombies that were just infected humans like in DayZ here, not undead. Essentially, they're just diseased, psychopathic and cannabilistic people. But even animals retain some intelligence. In The Remaining, the infected start to adapt to better hunt the more readily available prey (people). In the rural areas, they become nocturnal pack hunters, like wolves and use vicious pack tactics to flank their prey. While some wander in the day, they usually rest indoors. At night, they stalk the surrounding area, chasing down animals and humans alike and depend on their hearing mostly to do so. Day however, would be relatively peaceful, so long as you didn't disturb a house that the infected are resting in. It's the opposite in the cities however. There, the great hordes of infected can't depend on their hearing in the crowded cities. So they hunt at day, using their vision and numbers to run down and utterly destroy anything that has the misfortune of being discovered. I think this style of "zombies" matches DayZ well, and would make for interesting play.

    Dogs

I think tameable dogs just wouldn't fit into DayZ. But... Feral packs of former pets could spice things up in the big towns like Cherno. They'd hunt both zombies and players with vicious pack tactics. Darting in, biting your legs to drag you down and then swarming you. While easily defeated and or frightened off by anyone with a gun, anyone with just a melee weapon and all alone would make great targets for the pack....

    Light it up! Generators!

Nooo... My sense of originality has been compromised! Thanks for telling me though

    Light it up! Generators!

Well, I've always wanted a nice base in DayZ to relax in and sitting in front of a working tv in some abandoned cabin will complete that dream. At the cost of gasoline, a rare but scavenged portable generator can provide heat and light. With a little work on some electrical boxes you can connect it and light up a building. You could even use some portable spot lights to light up an area or field. This would create lots of noise and light, attracting zombies and bandits, but would provide lighting for a base, camp, or even for an ambush. Just imagine the panic on a nighttime server when you're blinded by bright lights from all sides and surrounded by bandits who were previously hidden in the dark. Anyways, just an idea I had, please leave your thoughts below.

    Improv Door Locks

I think you'd only be able to barricade someone into an internal room, not into an entire house due to variation of the doors. Only some could be barricaded due to things like the direction the door swings and whether you could mount a door bar there. Maybe some doors could be barricaded much stronger due to such variations. Also, it'd be nice to find real locks. With a key, you can open it easily, if more slowly than normal. And if people want to break in/out they can try to knock it down or smash the lock with a melee weapon should they be on the right side of the door.

    commiting suicide

I accidentally drank some disinfectant spray today. About forty five minutes into my slow, painful death I was wishing for this option....

    Improv Door Locks

I'll keep this brief, but I had a thought while playing earlier and looting houses when I alerted a few zombies. Quick and easy ways to block off a door temporarily, such as a door bar. I've found several sticks that apparently have no use besides fire wood that could make very nice door bars. With certain doors, specifically double doors, you could use the bar to slow zombies and other players. The same goes for handcuffs, you could latch a cuff over each door knob and temporarily block off that doorway. This would allow for some more bandit shenanigans, by being able to "imprison" players, but it would also help you to be able to protect a certain building for use as a base or just to cover an escape. Blocked doors wouldn't be invincible, much like handcuffing a player, you could escape by knocking the door down. This would take several tries, which would make a lot of noise. Anyways, there it is.
