ah i remember my first time too, its an exciting game, still ways to go before its done but the fun factor is high right of the bat, and it is more fun to play with other people otherwise it gets lonely. Best of luck buddy, happy hunting and dont trust anyone.

damaged weapon parts make the gun inaccurate, pristine parts make it accurate, my M4 has all parts pristine and shoots very accurately, theres no ifs and or buts about it, it is the law of the land in DayZ

Gear up on empty servers so you dont get chased down and get killed by bandits aka assholes with nothing better to do. to outrun Z's just double tap the W key and you will sprint, dont worry bout stamina as there is non, you run faster with nothing in your hands. Watch a few vids on youtube for more tips, its not really hard to learn and is a lot of fun to experiance, dayzmap.com has a full map, town names both in Russian and english so you can orient youreself. its the sense of fear and the unknown, its the fact that you can get shot and not know who did it or get robbed or beaten handcuffed revived and force fed rotten fruit till you die. Its encountering other players and not knowing how the encounter will turn out. Its finding bandits and taking them all out, its reading the compass and road signs to orient yourself, its finding a gun for the first time and looking for all accompanying parts. Its just addictive, yeah theres not much to do at the moment but thats ok because all the neat stuff is still on its way. Travel and learn for now it will all help in the end and dont be afraid to die cause it will happen a lot.

gear up in empty servers, then go to full servers to meet ppl, there are 4 map pieces, most maps are found at gas stations, get an axe, only mele weapon that can kill Z's, look for a compass, airfield has weapons but is also a hot zone for bandits. avoid ppl at first as they tend to shoot on sight and dont care what gear you have or if you're a noob, this game is brutal like that but its also why its so much fun. Keep your head up and have fun.

this game is brutal like that, if you lost all your stuff no worries just go out and find some more stuff, it gives you things to do, and word of advice ppl shoot on site here most of the time so be aware of your surroundings, especially big towns. This is an early Alpha build so there isnt much to do, learn the map, gather equipment, help friendly players, no need to be upset. After a few times of death takes me maybe 30 min to gather most necessary supplies. Keep your head up and enjoy.

hahaha, yesterday i was playing with my friend, we were at the army base, both on top of the hospital, i climb down the ladder no problem, im looking up to see what hes doing, i see him going back and forth trying to get the indicator so he can climb down the ladder, as soon as the words "dont fall down" leave my mouth i watch him fall and hear him scream and then i LOL hard, gather some of his things and go meet him at a spawn location. Just another wonderfull day in Day Z

Ok where should i start.... First spawn - I spawned in and immediately taken back by the amazing visuals and lighting and then immediately get beat down by 2 zombies, I thought i might be able to punch them to death but no such luck.... DEAD. Second spawn - get chased up a smoke stack by zombies, no help in sight, decide to take the easy way out and jumped. DEAD. Third Spawn - This time I am determined to find some weapons to defend myself, scavenge and find a hammer and a shovel (no clue that these are useless unless your nailing your own coffin and digging your own grave) by accident figure out the tapping "w" twice makes you sprint, SUCCESS as i am able to put some distance between me and the hoard of 2. Finally things start clicking for me, find some provisions, bag, kick ass helmet, clothes ect. Come across a compass and a map LIFE IS GOOD... Upon consulting the compass my assumptions are correct, running towards water is south, water on your left means you are going west and if its on the right you are going east (sense of accomplishment and self back patting is at an all time high). Anyways as I progress through the game i keep finding better and better loot and now im starting to look and feel the part of a lone survivor with the right gear and can do attitude, I happen across an airfield I believe its called Bolota, find some guns and some ammo now im feeling like the cock of the walk I mean c'mon i got guns, what do those noobs have, a flashlight and a battery! Things are going my way.... I figure the game looks great let me really crank up the visuals, so like the tool that i am i stop in the middle of the road next to the airfield, thins are going great the visuals are getting better the textures are now really coming alive as i fiddle with the sliders.... and then it happens! Who ever shot me must of been to my left, seems like that's where the shots rang out from, and the last thing i hear as i get ready to press the re-spawn button is him or her going through my gear. So this has been probably the most exciting 4 hours of any game i have ever played, I know what i signed up for and ill be damned if I let death stop me from getting new gear! True story broes.

heres a few things ive learned, there are night servers and day servers, you might be spawning in to a night server and not seeing you char cause its pitch black, you will usually spawn 2 locations, in both cases if you run by the water and its on your left hand side you are running west, double tap W to sprint and outrun zombies, look for supplies in buildings, shirts pants book bags food and water, also look for an axe, tab key brings up the inventory, small buildings ususaly don't have much good in them, map pieces are ususaly found in gas stations, there is no marker and you don't get a full map, read town signs so you can orient yourself, dayzmap.com for reference purpose, there is no player indicator so you have to learn to read direction and use map as you would in real life, if you ever get hurt and the screen turns blurry go to options while in game and hit the visuals settings it will take the blurr away, if youre colors look washed out it means you lost some blood or might be sick, don't eat rotten food, screw driver or a can opener will open canned food, tear shirts in to rags. Thank you guys for the kind words, Im happy you guys enjoyed the story, I actually learned a lot from just that one encounter, I am in no way bitter that I got KoS (Just learned that term),I do have a mic and im sure this is the first of many times that im going to die, I see the potential of this game, I know now to be carful. I am looking forward to my next encounter hopefully it goes more in my favor or maybe ill make a friend and if not I can always just start over. Sorry for the typo of the town name, i am a noob so im sure im gonna make many mistakes in my travels. Anyways fellas feel free to share your first few hour experiences if you like, as i am curious as to when was the first time you met your demise because of another player. Its sad in a way it was the first time I got killed by another player and i didn't even know his name. Happy hunting guys and gals. double tap W to run faster than regular run, dont have anything in your hands while performing the sprint

i think the starting over part is the best part of the alpha, i havent met anyone, i got killed a few times, so what, you lose your gear next time you get it faster since you know what to look for, i got KoS once and didn't even see the guy just herd him going through my things after i was dead, i figure im gonna try the bandit route see how that pans out, if you cant find the joy in its simplicity then this game might not be for you, i knew exactly what to expect when i got this game, there are a ton of things planed in the near future, but for now im just focusing on learning the map and shooting. 8 hours in and loved every second of it.

heres a few things i was able to figure out, running towards the water is running south, water on the left hand side you are traveling west, you probably broke a limb by the fall, day night cycle is the same as in the real world, double tap W to run fast and out run zombies, they stop chasing after a while, get an axe only way to kill them. if you keep traveling west by the watter eventualy you are gonna run in to an airfield, look for guns there. ive only been playing for a few hours, so just use your noodle and youll figure stuff out, best of luck

i was standing out in the open on a server with 6 ppl in it, in the town next to the airfield, doing what, adjusting my visual settings, just standing there out in the open with full gear and guns and axe, had a ton of stuff, next thing i know, loud BOOM, im assuming i was shot in the head since i was immediately dead, and then i heard him going through my stuff (that hurt a little) so lesson learned, dont stand in the open for too long or you might get shot in the head , by the way ive only been playing for about 7 hours.

i got shot yesterday, being stupid adjusting my vid settings while in the open, lost a ton of gear, i aint mad, kinda fun getting all that stuff again, but now i know not to stand in the open, i like this game ive only played it for 6 hours but it is loads of fun even if you die now and then
