Medic here. Everyone is starving to death
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to spuddy0108's topic in General Discussion
Unfortunately it seems that bottles grew more rare as soon as they introduced this feature (probably because it is a more sought after item for players). I have actually only found a bottle once since they introduced the fish trap a long time ago, and that one time I didn't have anything to cut it with. -
As the one exp build we had with December weather showed, it is a rather pointless excercise to have a stable build with that setting until loot spawning is working better and energy consumption is more balanced. There was no survival challenge, because you were 100% certain to die of starvation or cold very shortly from the moment you tried to leave the spawn area. You simply did burn energy too fast to move from one town to the other. Loot spawning works better now than it did in that build, but even now you would simply not be able to find enough food to keep up the energy to travel anywhere, not least because you would get stuffed before consuming enough food to remove the hunger bar. I welcome, indeed would wish, harsher environmental conditions in stable when the game is nearing the phase where balance issues are being worked on, but until then it is best left for the occasional experimental build.

Nothing reduces PvP KoS like...I don't know...EATING PEOPLE!?!
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to bfisher's topic in General Discussion
However I have a suspicion that you can get sick from being hit by zombies as well. At least two of my exp characters seemed to suffer from the disease, yet I have not had them eat any human flesh at all. -
There seem to be some misunderstanding here. Zhoub posted saying they found netting in sheds in exp. Maia replied saying that netting did indeed spawn in sheds in the first build of 0.51 exp, but that they changed it in the second build of 0.51 exp to only spawn at boats. Hence netting should only spawn at boats in 0.51 stable. But if loot spawning on boats is bugged in 0.51 then netting wouldn't spawn at all in stable (however Karakoz seems to have found loot at boats in stable, so it is probably just a case of boats being heavily visited in the search for netting).

Im really loving the new ghillie camo..
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
They do mostly. But only because some other damn player has taken all the netting. -

I think you can get the cannibal disease simply by being hit by zombies now. At least I have heard the cannibal laugh up close twice now where I was certain there was no other players around (and I hadn't eaten human flesh, but had been hit by zombies). -

I've also found them in garages. And you can carry them in your inventory like a weapon, without having to use any inventory slots. -
No way. You only need 1 headshot to kill, even if the victim is wearing a ballistic helmet, on account of the close range. Body shots can vary, but usually 2 or 3 (depending on the health state and gear of the target) should be more than enough.

Some very fundamental stuff to be expected in q1: basic vehicles, zombie ai, renderer, stealth and diseases. When all these things are added, I would say the basic game is very much in place and everything else (except perhaps more zombies) will just be icing on the cake. Very nice to see.

Yes, I was also unable to paint the fireaxe. Also regarding gas cannisters, there is a bug(?) so if you take it in hands and then drop it by clicking the red X in the hands box, the cannister will magically be placed in your inventory and you will carry it around without either having to hold it in your hands or use inventory slots for it. There is some issues with this when you change items in hands, it can drop again, but you can just repeat the process and you will have it in your inventory again. -
Possibly, but I would claim that it would indeed still be possible to find decent loot on the coast after persistence implementation. You just have to search every house, especially places that you would not think would contain loot. This is a big improvement over the old system, where you not only could reasonably well predict which buildings would contain loot, but also, based on server restart time, whether it would be looted or not. Basically it exchanges the old system, which worked a bit like going to the grocery store and picking up stuff from carefully sorted but plentiful shelves, to a much more realistic loot experience, where loot is more random and you can't afford to miss a shed or a bed room in case you missed that particular item.

The navmesh was a big improvement, and the respawn mechanisms are also getting better. Their AI is still the same old placeholder AI as it has always been, but it is being worked on. In exp they have recently experimented with adding more zombies to the server, I didn't get to try that particular build, but it was reported to have greatly added to the zombie apocalypse feel of this zombie survival game.

You left out the important thing about loot outside persistent containers will degrade. So it should not be such an eternal buildup of trash loot, because that trash loot will degrade and eventually disappear making new loot spawn somewhere else.

Yeah, I get to spawn in but not move before the game crashes now. Also, does everyone else also got all the exp servers showing 0/40 or 0/50 even though they are obviously full or almost full when you join them? -

Yay: I got to drive to the gate. Then the game crashed. It was all worth it!! -

It can just as well have been a non-cheating sniper. Very often with the current buggy sound you don't hear the shot, only the impact. -
Took me most of the night to get over this

Eh, he was using the "crosshairs" (the little dot). I guess you meant the ironsight. -
That's not true. You can basically kill them with every melee weapon and your fists, as long as you make sure to hit them in the head, and when they KO keep hitting that head until it finally dies. For example I was recently pleasantly surprised how easy it is to take them out with a machete. It took 2 or 3 headshots and it was dead compared to earlier builds where you needed to spam hitting them in what seemed like forever. Also go to 1pp for better aim.
-
Indeed. They added them in 0.49 or 0.50 (don't remember which) and I still haven't encountered one in-game. So you were lucky indeed.

By far the majority of patches have been released Wednesdays. The "Wednesdays are for maintenance and Fridays for patches"-thing is ancient history and has been so for many many months. Go check yourself in the devtracker. 0.50 was implemented to stable November 5.

Gas stations blowing up has been in the game since day 1.

And grenade explosions can unfortunately go through walls. So if they know where you were hiding, they can just drop a grenade outside the building next to that room and you are a goner.

Kudos for the Pixies in the background though. Such a relief from the majority of dubstep soundtracked videos posted here.

Heh, I see you are busy confirming my last post. Hats off.
