Doesn't do much? Take a look at this video, which is an excellent example of the gamma exploit: Now compare it to the almost pitch black of default settings as evidenced in a video made by a non-exploiter: It could as well have been bright sunshine in that first video. Now think about what happens when these kind of players run into regular non-exploiting players during nighttime. The advantage they get would be comparable to the advantage someone using an aimbot or wallhack would get.

Bayonets are not functioning in the game yey, afaik.

Perhaps, but the combat logging made him a server hopper even if he hadn't done it before. But yeah, the looking through walls glitch was pretty lame.

Learning about that gamma exploit kinda ruined nighttime playing for me, since I don't want to use it myself, but I can never be sure who out there does. So it is strictly daytime for me. Makes looting airfields and military bases a bit more challenging as well.

Great guide for new players - tells you what each symptom means and how to cure!
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to marsmars's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't worry about that, apparently it is a bug and the "Sick" message wont show up until you try some form of cure. I just tried the same and learned that it will say "My wounds look cleaner" for approx 10 times and the "My wounds are clean now" and then the "Sick" message in the inventory will automatically disappear again. You don't need to take anything extra (like the alcohol mentioned), the antibiotics are just slowly working. -
There is always some place on the map which hasn't been looted. Go inland. I've been around the map twice with my current character and I only ever saw other players on the coast. Lots of towns everywhere with fresh loot (and zombies). The only real risk of running into other players inland atm is at the airfields and military bases, and those are mostly server hoppers who won't leave those places anyway.

"Jokin" Around - Hilarious Player Interaction Montage
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to TheFriendlyNoob's topic in Gallery
I think telling awful jokes to an audience that is literally bleeding to death constitutes torture according to the Geneva convention. -
There is no such thing as being friendly in airfields, especially not in that MP compound, and even less so if the guy is having a gun in his hands. Anywhere else on the map I would likely encourage interaction (although I would be wary of armed people that would not put their guns down), but the airfields and military bases just generates a dangerous mixture of adrenalin and greed which should not be trusted under any circumstances. To paraphrase Hunter S. Thompson: "You can turn you back on a person, but never turn your back on a greedy teenager, especially if it is waving a loaded m4 in your eye".

Also, the fact that the moaning doesn't stop if you heal yourself, but only stops if you change server or simply reconnect, leads me to believe that the constant moaning is also bugged.

Sun Tzu - The Art of DayZ ?!?!
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I also only recently learned how to do that. For some reason there is no "Read" option when right clicking on it. You have to drag it from your inventory to your action bar, then press the number and you are good to go. -
Sun Tzu - The Art of DayZ ?!?!
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I had the same feeling when I found it. I usually don't like to waste space in my backpack for books, but that one I just couldn't leave behind. -
People are spawning around Nizhnoye, Solnichniy and Kamyshovo. I know because I've been doing my hero bit, policing for bandits preying on newspawns in that area for a couple of days now. As far as I am aware noone spawns west of Cherno anymore, I don't know how you managed to do that at that date, unless it was a server that hadn't patched yet.

Sun Tzu - The Art of DayZ ?!?!

I am rather satisfied with the copy of H.P. Lovecrafts "The Shunned House" I carry in my backpack. -
What a failure that ambush was in the second video. All of you busy doing something else, not even having loaded your gun, leaving the bait to a miserable newspawn death by battering. But it sounded like you had good fun.

I don't know if you are capable of refining your style with those panic attacks and all, but when killing someone with an axe you just need a few wellplaced slashes to the head, nothing more. Otherwise you ruin all the loot of that other player. You chopping him to mincemeat also affects his gear, as you found out.

There is always the risk that they have a sniper posted somewhere, though your incident didn't sound like anything but kids messing around with random players.

I counted 6 zombies. That fits in nicely with the maximum number of zombies I managed to gather in my test of zombie herding. Which leads me to suspect someone led them there. No hacking needed.
-
I guess you missed all the "Don't buy this, this is an alpha, you will experience character wipes" disclaimers before buying.

The more I thought about the more appealing this idea sounded to me, so I decided to try it out for myself. My experiments with zombie herding I went to the suburbs of Cherno, since in my experience there is always plenty of zombies there. And true enough, they were literally all over the place. I ran around, firing a few pistol shots in the air to announce my arrival. Everywhere I turned there was lots of zombies, I counted about 20 of them, however it soon became clear to me that zombieherding required a refined technique, since only a handful, 5 or 6, would take up pursuit at any one time, the rest would slow down and eventually completely stop. I tried running in circles, catching up with those that I left behind, but when I did that, the ones that had been at the front of the herd stopped. So I eventually had to settle with a small herd of 6 zombies. Zombie herding is not without its dangers, while they mostly stumble ahead in a measured pace, if they come near the herder they do sometimes make sudden sprint attacks, which, if the herder is not careful, zigzagging in front of them is a good strategy, I found, they may claw you in the back. I was hit once, and had to climb some ladders to bandage myself. When I came down, I only found 2 remainders of my trusty herd and had to return to the suburbs to gather some more. This is my herd. Going downhill to the city itself I unfortunately lost one, it was a bit frisky and tried jumpattacking me down hill, and it must have stumbled because it fell down and did not get up again, luckily I found a youngling in the city which I soon managed to round up and add to the herd. I went to the nearest large street, where a few passive zombies was already in place, then I quickly went through a gate and sprinted away from the place before any of my herd knew what was happening. While it was great fun, it was still a bit disappointing that I could not round up a herd bigger than 6. I hope it was just because I was a rookie, and a bit of practice will help. I am thinking that being in a group would very likely be an advantage, at least two, one in front and one in the back, but a couple in the sides wouldnt hurt either, perhaps making it possible to keep more zombies in the herd.

A good example (numerous actually) that one mans hero is another mans bandit.

I really hope the crafting system allows for repairs on items
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to Slyguy65's topic in General Discussion
It seems obvious to me that that is what they are heading for, with all the tools laying around and the grading system. -
I guess you could create your own horde by going through a well zombie populated place like Cherno, aggroing all the zombies you met outrunning them, but not enough to lose them, until you got quite a horde after you, which you can then either dispose of or lead to somewhere where you think it would be of use, and then abandon it for others to find.

I've never found any in that piano house, but I've found plenty above cafés in larger cities. Generally those multi-storied houses with a garage or shop in the ground floor has a tendency to hold them. But it is indeed extremely random. With my latest spawn I haven't found any Mosin, although I've been to several towns, while with earlier spawns I have found several.

Why does every person with a gun shoot on sight?
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to joeymp's topic in General Discussion
I've seen plenty of videos that refute your claim. Being friendly can be rewarding in all sorts of ways, not least in gaining friends and/or starting a team, which is and will keep being the most powerful tool in the game. -
It was the forest around Zub.
