Dayz Standalone - You're not safe wherever you are
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to TuranArek's topic in Gallery
It looks to me like you killed the killer of the sniper. Anyway kudos on the kill. Nicely edited video also. -
What do you want to see in .54
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to LORDPrometheus's topic in General Discussion
No, the new renderer will be in by Q1. Hicks said that major optimisation work wouldn't be done until beta/release. Two different things. -
Bullets don't go through walls, why do zombie attacks?
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to DesertSage's topic in General Discussion
It is a wellknown and wellexplained bug. Desync can cause a conflict of the position of your character between server and client. The client sees it as the character being safe inside the house, while the server controlled zombie sees the player outside the house and attacks it. By the way, pressing v to vault reestablishes synchronisation, as the game needs the exact position of the player to figure out how the vault carries out, and like magic the zombies outside stops hitting the character inside. -
How DayZ Can Go From Calm To Crazy In 3 Minutes
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to SnoopSalmon's topic in Gallery
Seeing as he lost out on a medium distance shootout against an izh-43 shotgun while wielding a fully kitted m4, I think that is a pretty safe bet. -
Experimental Branch: 0.53 Discussion
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to boneboys's topic in PC Experimental Updates
It seems that they sent an email to server owners yesterday, stating that maintenance will take longer than 3 hours today on account of an update. They tweeted something to that effect as well, but for some reason devtracker here on the forum doesn't pick up tweets atm. -
I finally caved in and checked reddit, and they are quoting tweets from the devs left and right about what is going on, so it seems it is the devtracker on the forum that is broken. Apparently stable is getting an update and so maintenance will take longer than the usual 3 hours. They also sent an email to server owners yesterday stating that servers will be updated today.

While the devs have been unusually communicative about various projects and features of the game on this forum this last month, and kudos to them for doing that, they have also been unusually silent about work involving updating builds and server maintenance.

Actually apart from this thread there hasn't been any debates about lack of development for quite a while now. If you had been around the last 3-4 months you would have noticed the pace of development picking up and becoming very impressive, with weekly (sometimes more) updates. Admittedly January has been rather slow, but they are after all working on implementing the new renderer (as well as zombie AI and other huge features), and I imagine that this is creating some issues they need to fix before getting back into the old pattern of the more quick succession of updates.

Please give us beards. But what is up with this troll thread. Why did this become a thing? We haven't had a beard thread in ages. It would have been perfectly fine if someone started a beard thread now, it is actually time for such a thread. Instead we get this thread. Everyone please just forget about this thread. It went places noone wanted to know about. We just need beards in the game, not several pages of facial hair confessionals.

There is nothing new about this. This has been happening since the release of the game. In fact I have personally found that the number of server owners doing this has drastically decreased as compared to before private shards was possible.

That truck massacre at the beginning was hilarious. Those poor saps, they were literally acting like deer caught in the headlight.

Experimental Branch: 0.53 Discussion
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to boneboys's topic in PC Experimental Updates
I haven't read anything to that effect, but they did say that we could expect excess rubberbanding and such, suggesting that they did implement something of that nature. -
Regarding the sound melee can still give off the gunshot sound (which it used to do in earlier builds everytime you hit a solid object) if you hit a melee weapon or a rifle they are carrying on their back.

It was a very interesting situation with some very interesting characters, killing them was a bit of a cop out, although I guess we all knew it would eventually end with bloodshed. The fact that the most obvious psycho let you have his weapon seems to suggest it could have been played out a lot more. That being said, that last guy, poor guy, he seems to have spawned in there, probably server hopping. That is about the worst situation you could ever spawn into. A looked room with three dead bodies and a murdering axewielding psycho.

How is the outsourced zombie work coming along?
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to cheranuscrusiser's topic in General Discussion
OP make it sound like we haven't heard anything from them since they were hired, which is no even close to the truth. We already have the navmesh as the first result (implemented quite a long time ago), the current zombie AI is the same placeholder AI it has been since release, they don't do incremental work on that one but rather plan to roll out a full build this Q1 (it sounds like it is very close to going to experimental). Also, anyone bothering to read the weekly dev status reports should be relatively well-informed regarding what they are working on. -
My first thoughts were that it was just a variant of the "stuck animation" bug, like the one where players are constantly taking their weapons on and off their backs. This causes the sliding movement as well, but since he did seem to be aware of your location throughout, even through the trees and at long distance, the cheater option seems somewhat likely. And last but not least, the fact that he was a worthless shot and a generally awful player, speaks in favour of him being a cheater as well.

Indeed. Sadly the adventures of the Green Avenger would never have been possible with the current nerfbat:

DayZ Shorts - Invisible Hacker Caught on Camera!
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to IGravemind's topic in Gallery
Yeah, looks more like desync to me. -
I don't subscribe to the theory that more zombies will diminish KOS (or much PVP), but I do subscribe to the theory that more zombies will make zombies more of a threat. And they really need that, because right now they aren't any sort of a threat, and they should be one of the greatest non-player threats in the game. They should be a constant annoyance, and the the possibility of a dangerous zombie attack should be something that players would have to always keep in mind whenever they perform any actions in this game. This is something that would change player behaviour, not necessarily towards other players, but just doing ordinary actions. The need to find relatively safe places for eating, drinking, bandaging, rearranging inventory etc etc. No more of that in the open, or whenever you feel like it. Making looting towns much more of an adrenaline inducing experience than the carefree "going shopping" feeling it currently has. Generally speaking basic survival should play out on the premises of the zombies, not the players. And more zombies is one of the main methods of achieving that (a proper AI would partially be another).

Perhaps because it is an extremely inefficient way to get work done? Especially in an environment where humans would be a scarce resource. Back to OP: When has anyone made the claim that a feature shouldn't be introduced because it would hurt the lone wolf play style? It seems to me this entire discussion is based on a questionable premise. And no, they should certainly not add psychological disadvantages for lone wolfs, it would be as daft as adding it for people who kills other players. Some people are actually capable of living alone, as some are capable of killing others.

You couldn't do any of those things back in October.

Easiest way to get a SKS and PU Scope? where to go?
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
The SKS and the scope seems to be no problem to find, but the ammo now almost exclusively spawn at military spawns (you can get lucky and find it, plus stripper clip at police stations and firestations, but a very rare occurrence in my experience). So you are better of using either mosin (if you require scope) or repeater (for that semi auto action) as your go to civilian gun, since ammo for those can be found in most civilian loot spawns. Alternatively the shotgun, but it does have a major disadvantage when it comes to range. -
I find zero evidence provided in the OP that that was what was going on. It may likely have been a server hopper considering the place he was logging out in, but there is no reason to think he would have known about the present of OP. His game could have crashed for all any of us could know. If I was a relative newspawn and saw a fully geared guy logging out I wouldn't think twice about killing him and taking his gear, but I am not particular fond of making up unlikely excuses for what I am doing. I take advantage of his vulnerable position, and I kill him for his gear, not because it "is despicable that he would log out in order to avoid interaction" or some similar nonsense.

Is Steam Not Working For You?
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to therandomredstone's topic in General Discussion
I just opened Steam to test it out and it works fine for me.
