Burlap Sack Hobo - Adventures with a burlap sack on my head
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to SammyD's topic in Gallery
"So I am in Berezino, if I head south I should be able to hit Elektro. Do you think I will be able to find the firestation?". Great stuff. -
You have to lose line of sight of them after they have reached their initial destination. Currently zombies run from point to point. When the zombie notices you it runs to the position you were in when it saw you and doesn't stop until it reaches that point. So you have to be out of sight (and some distance away) when it has reached that destination, otherwise it will trigger another destination point for that it will run to without stopping. So the key is to be out of sight when it reaches the destination point. Alternatively just sprinting away, changing directions from time to time, so you don't run in a straight line (otherwise it will eventually suddenly catch up to you if you pause for a longer time), will cause considerable distance from you and the zombie, and cause it to stop when it loses sight from tress or hills. Last, but not least in effectiveness, is having the zombie chasing you downhill. While it is doing this, let it come close enough for an attack (make sure not close enough for it to hit). Attacking while going downhill has the tendency to make the zombie stumble fall and kill itself. At least that is how it used to be, that is one noticeable bug, so it may have been fixed or be fixed in some upcoming patch.

I think your feeling of safety may be the delusion. You need to be much more aware in 1pp than in 3pp, because you don't have 360 degrees sight anymore, and thus is much more exposed to somebody sneaking up on you if you do not constantly check all directions or make sure to move so your back is covered. Peaking around corners or from behind covers now also requires the player to actually expose themselves.

Was I really lucky or was this a stranger
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to doctorwhy's topic in General Discussion
No, they don't spawn with accessories. But I have found several m4s with scope and bipod and even loaded mags in them as well lately. The thing is that players want to try out the new guns, so the moment they find one, they drop their old one, to the benefit of latecomers. And this guy may have been a server hopper, but it is also likely that he was just kitted out and exclusively looking for that gun, so he didn't need to check the other houses (and closing doors after you is always a good strategy). -
After hearing that the guy had ammo for his gun, you should probably not have decided to stand still in the middle of that field. And while I do appreciate your intentions, that guy very much needed to be taken down for newspawn killing, I did find those 3 newspawns to come across as more than a little needy. I wouldn't have trusted them the way you did, walking amongst them while they run around with their fists up, but probably told them to run ahead, trying to lure out the armed guy so you could take him out from a safer distance. Anyway kudos for having the guts to link an unsuccesful story here. They are always much more educational than the succesful ones.

That's really unlucky. Pretty unnerving to see what looked like numerous direct magnum hits to the body, as well as at least 1 B95 hit, didn't seem to have any effect on the axe attacker (I am not surprised that the machete didn't have an effect, it's crap basically).

Been playing mostly regular these past few days because of the memory leak. My regular hive character is mainly a guinea pig, so I don't care if he dies from being teleported into a zombie or wall or something like that, and the low fps has indeed been that bad at times recently. But as soon as they fix the memory leak I will be right back to my hardcore hive character.

I've got a PU scope on mine. Haven't found a LRS in ages, so I don't know it that would fit.

Need Fixing: Axe swinging, Filling Canteens, Disappearing loot
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to Ultra7's topic in General Discussion
Axe swings should definitely be an overhead swing. And what is wrong with left-handed swings? Filling canteens: Mouse wheel. Disappearing items: Don't ever place items in a house with furniture. Do it outside or in empty rooms (stand in the middle of them). Of course the problem of items getting stuck in walls and furniture (and trees) is a problem and will eventually be fixed. Water purification tabs: No need. Infection not implemented yet. Falling: They did mention tweaking it in latest patch. But it probably needs a lot more work. -
Never trust a player with a mask. Not even your teamspeak friend.
-
Nope. They are not in the game yet. Drinking alcohol tincture and using antibiotics used to bring about symptoms of infected wounds, but that was a bug and there was no real risk to the player of dying from it.

If it occurs on just about any steep hill, and it does, then that would be a whole lot of coordinates.

To the pantless bandits on the LLJK server

Pics or it didn't happen. -
If you died in Berezino you could have run there from any spawn point (including Novy Sobor) in 20 minutes tops.

To those whining about post-processing and gamma:
BadAsh (DayZ) replied to Grimey Rick's topic in General Discussion
The difference between a cheat and an exploit is that the latter is abusing something that was already in the game. So yes it is a part of the game, but not a legitimate part of it. -

Gotta love these whine threads by the exploiters. I will not refrain from calling gamma exploit or PP-off exploits, because that is what they are (that "playing the game properly" thing is your own strawman). By all means go ahead and exploit, just don't pretend this is an intended game feature or that other players who doesn't use it won't look down on the players who does. -
Welcome to the internet, rookie, but I am afraid you use faulty logic. Here is the explanation of an exploit in a video game: "An exploit, in video games, is the use of bug or glitches, rates, hit boxes, or speed, etcd. by a player to their advantage in a manner not intended by the game's designers."
-
There was a video recently of a guy who even got killed (with the "You are dead" screen) seconds before server restart, and when it restarted he was alive again.
-
Not true. That is one of the first things exploiting noobs turn off.
-
Yeah, they are somewhat common in the firestation on the shelves behind the ladder leading up the tower.
-
Nice video. At that last part you should probably have headed due south all the way to the beach and in cover of the dunes, before doing the flanking, then they likely wouldn't have seen you and probably thought you fled. As it were they guessed what you were trying to do because they could see you flanking when you ran across that open stretch. Keep up the good work, though.

The floor is not 0.5m thick. More like 0.1 or 0.2. However the 5.56 as shown in that video could barely penetrate the metal wall of the warehouse, performing no better than the .45. The 7.62 could, however, which would mean that the SKS for example would have a much greater chance of doing that. Watch around 12.00 mins of the video where he fires through the floor with a 7.62.
